- Just like any fish, there are a million different ways that you can cook it, but for some reason there just isn't a lot of diversity in the world of cooking burbot, also commonly known as Mariah, Eel Pout, and Freshwater Cod.
I love the texture of the meat and the great fish flavours and aromas the meat has to offer.
As many often refer to the meat as "Poor Man's Lobster" I wanted to recreate a common favourite lobster snack, the Lobster Roll.
This is one of the easiest things you'll prepare either in the wilderness, the ice shack or in the kitchen. With a few simple ingredients and an overall prep and cook time of just a few minutes, this is a real winner.

I could see this taking off as the ultimate catch and cook channel. Job well done.
Appreciate it!
Burbs are 100% my favorite fish. Sweet video!
Thanks. Gotta love em!
Funny how its called poor man's lobster, considering that lobster was the poor man's food in the years of the cod fishery and now its considered a delicacy!
Agreed. Now is Burbots time in the spotlight!
That thumbnail looks fire.
One of my all time favorite table fish. Bravo. Gonna try this weekend.
Josh! You gotta make more of these man, it is UNREAL how you make such beautiful food out in the wild. It pushes me to cook better food at home lol
Looking forward to try that with pike, which has also been enjoyed boiled and buttered! Great vid!
Looks delicious man!
Thanks fella
Totally drooling 🤤
I’m heading up to Lake of the Woods in early January and I might just have to bring the fixings for makes this just in case we catch a burbot. It’s looks amazing.
I typically don't care about catch and cooks but this is an amazing video. I also had burbot boiled in pop and it was horrible. I definitely want to try this recipe out though!
Hah thanks mate. Really appreciate it. You need to give it a try.
cinematography and editing on point
Looks so good. I’ll take two!
Definitely going to make this
Great one Josh! Thanks for the tasty lawyer roll recipe!
You've clearly never been to Walker, Minnesota towards the end of February. Eelpout festival has grown exponentially there. Unfortunately it got to be too big to handle and I believe they hung it up last year.
Was definitely aiming to get down to it one year but I heard it was overrun with Neanderthals
Great video man
Thanks mate
Might have to keep the next burbot. Good vid👍
Definitely give it a go. They’re delicious.
I want this!
EOM Delight 🥖🐟!! 😋
"cheating device"....naaahh. We call them "tools"...lol. great vid bro. Subbed.
Haha thanks! I say it satirically of course, I can’t catch fish without one.
Nice job buddy. Only next time cook it by your fishing rod! 😁🤪
Hah, I did miss a couple... but they came back fortunately.
I need to head north. Down in Fargo, we don't have burbot in the Red RIver at this point. YOu want to catch a ton of them? I"ll tell ya what lake in northern MN
Showing the wife this vid!
I like ur fishin spot. Easy access. Close to Breezy Point?
Yah just at Netley, end of Main.
Do you have a video or advise on how to fillet a burbot?
Gonna try cod with a lil bit of Frank's in the mix
