4:48 Guy behind and to the left of you is my band director. Thank you for giving me and the rest of my band mates the opportunity to make even more memes of our band director
Okay, someone liked, so here it is! So I'm in high school, and my main instruments are violin and piano (it's been 10 years of music now! Holy crap, I'm 15...) and I only started familiarizing myself with percussion in August for some school stuff, then I discovered EMC and drum corps and all that good stuff. Anyways, because of this, I started hanging out with my school's oldest percussionist (Martha, she's a junior and also a complete beast, I'm a sophomore). Then, one day after school, Martha and I were chilling in the band room like all the cool kids do, and we were talking about percussion and stuff. And she walks over to the aux. percussion cabinet (love that thing) and starts using it as a practice pad. And I was like, "Are... are you using the cabinet as a practice pad?" And she was like "Yeah, it's kind of bouncy (there's this weird carpet thing on top of it), and I mean, I can play hertas on it..." And she plays a couple of hertas, and she says, "Oh wait, you're new to this stuff, you probably don't know what hertas are." And I was like "Um... isn't that a marching meme?" And she was like "Yes." So I said "Didn't it originate from that one video, 'My Hertas' by EMC Productions?" And she said, "Yeah! Huh, you really got into this stuff didn't you?" She had to go do something soon after but we had a conversation via text about drum corps and maybe seeing a show together next year. She's a legend - if you're reading this Martha, I hope you're okay (you were frustrated with that xylophone part Gable made you record last time I saw you). So that's how I bonded with my friend over this very channel. Bonus story time! Martha is playing with me and a few of my other friends in our school's musical theatre show pit (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), and in one of the songs (I Speak Six Languages), there's a pretty long bongo thing that you can play pretty much whatever the heck you want during. So Martha's going to be playing hertas for that entire time (18 bars). What a legend.
Omg I go to the Texas state fair every year because I live in Plano, and I love seeing the parade and now I recall seeing someone like you this year while watching
One of my first schools when I started private teaching was Lewisville HS. That was in 1989 - THIRTY YEARS AGO! (Damn, I'm old.) I was a 24 year old sophomore at UNT majoring in Music Performance. (I had been serving in an Army Band up to the year before.) I bet some of my LHS tuba students are still there, too. HAHAHA!!!
one of my life’s biggest regrets is not joining the military (Marines, Air Force) knowing they have good music programs - especially drum-lines and concert bands…just was never educated or counseled in that area. REALLY JEALOUS of your accomplishments and experiences in the military! Btw - thank you for your service, as always! You are too cool, my dude. Keep up the content as it enthralling!
Inquiring minds like mine would like to know is how you guys travel on the road -- is it DCI World Class style (dedicated tractor trailers for equipment and uniforms and a luxury charter bus --- OR -- do you have your own caravan equivalent to Air Force One on wheels?)
Best most relaxed technique I have ever seen in drum corps type music. In the 90’s they taught he no arm movement was permitted in marching band- it drove me nuts.
I know a bunch of people at a high school in alexandria VA (west potomac) and they told me a bunch of their marching band staff wasnt gonna be there for a couple weeks. This explains why lol
who knew the youtuber i just found out about 2 weeks ago because i started playing quads was gonna be 30 minutes away from me. life surprises me sometimes
welcome back! when the person who stole your phone deleted your channel i was still watching your videos then i clicked on another one of yours and it said this person has closed their channel lmao
Hey Eric, I'm actually going to be in Texas on Friday and Saturday, as a part of the "Bring it Home" Guinness World Record attempt of the largest parade of Harley Davidson motorcycles at Cox Airfield in Paris, Texas for Motorcycle Missions that help veterans with PTSD. So, if I know what time the Commandant's Own is playing and where at the Texas State Fair, I would love to come see you guys, being a drum corps alumni and Navy veteran.
I remember watching the marine Corp drum line perform at Dayton Ohio during the wgi world championships in like 2015 or 2016 I forgot what year maybe both but they are good at it
Man I’m glad I watched this video. I was gonna mount a go pro on the quints at my school and I was thinking about the side of the drum to get a view going across but now I know to put it on the carrier
it is so badass that you are positioned DIRECTLY BEHING THE LEAD DRUM MAJOR during the cadence marches to and from! just fyi - Twin Peaks - you devils, you! - is Texas’ version of HOOTERS. LOL
Man, I really wish I could be there. My mom and brother are going there in 2 days, on a field trip for my brothers food science class. I asked them if they could film y'all playing so I could watch.
I tried out for snare as a freshman in high school. They told me I got it but put me on tenors. Those things weight so much it hurt my back. So I switched to the pit crew and played the marimba.
theGreatPanda I think it's something he created during his days with WGI indoor. I'm pretty sure I bookmarked it - cause I like it too - will get back to you later

I am in high school and some marines came to our game to become first in state in Michigan and they said that I was a pretty hot shot at playing tenors and they took my contact info so maybe I will be there someday.
Great video as usual. I am not a percussionist but I enjoy your channel. Speaking of which, how about convincing a horn player to make a similar channel?
