Doug, I've been watching and listening to your channel for several years and I believe that you are the BEST steel git player that I've ever heard. Ps. YourFender Deluxe 8 is the coolest/retro looking/sounding of all your steel's. Thanks for years of enjoyment!!!

I am a 70+ year old guitar player for over 50 years, this is totally one the the best demonstration of how to play a musical instrument. This channel deserves a million views. WOW!

I was about twelve years old when I played this on an acoustic guitar, my father took me to a working man’s club to play for the resident band To see if I was good enough for my dad to buy me an electric. What an amazing time I had, we went through a whole shadows album, on stage, in a hall, with only the bar staff to hear us........ I am now 61. This has taken me back.......
My mate plays as 'Hank Marvin' in "the reflections" (the only tribute band still touring that's as good as the originals) the shadows members all really rated them, and played with them on tour
Astounding levels of precision and musicianship here. Really stunning. I can hardly imagine the hours of practice you have invested to achieve this. Thank you!
This is one of the greatest songs of the early 1960s. Its rhythms are repeated throughout so many other songs, frequently used in modern advertising. The Ventures were the greatest.
It would be almost impossible to better Doug's rendition of this song. For in my book, the late Jerry Byrd and Buddy Emmons, are the ONLY one's that could outdo Doug's intonation of this popular song.

Really pretty! This is a prettier version than I have ever heard of this song. You make your steel sound great! I imagine that is a rather older Fender. Fantastic!!
Thanks! Yes, it’s a 1967 Fender Deluxe 8 steel guitar. The sound is slightly different than a regular guitar because the player slides into the notes with the bar.
@@audiocam Yep, it not a pedal steel. Some players call it "non-pedal steel" which sounds kind of awkward 😆 It's not a lap steel, it's not a pedal steel... I guess it could be called a console steel.
This is the one! I have loved this song since it was first recorded in the early 1960's and NO ONE! Has done it as well as you Doug, not the Ventures or any of the various surf bands. But yours does that, in some ways yours is even better than the original version because of the combination of your skill and excelent Fidelity that is possible on youtube. Their is something that is hard to put into words about how you play this particular song its what I think may be called it 'cadence' something thats a overall part of your style thats sounds right. After years of hearing mediocre renditions of this song and then to hear yours with every note to this glorious bridge being played in its moving original manner it was mind blowing Wow it gives me goose bumps each time " you play it !" Thank you Cleve for your kind words! Apache has always been one of my favorite instrumentals. I grew up hearing it on the radio many years ago.. Have a nice Holiday! 😊
I still vividly remember on a Sunday morning in 1961 hearing The Shadows version of Apache on the radio. I spent the whole of that day by my parent's radiogram listening in the hope that it would get more plays, and it got another 3. It was a life-defining moment that shaped my future passion for guitar.(Notice I still mainly play a red Strat). I was fascinated by your interpretation and pleased that you honoured the original. Lovely to hear a new take on an old favourite. I still get a thrill when I hear Hank play this tune that had such a massive influence on music history. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for listening, Bruce. I'm glad you like it. Here in the USA, The Shadows got no airplay in the 60s/70s, unfortunately. So I didn't hear their music until much later. Here we had The Ventures, playing much the same style as The Shadows, and many of the same tunes. So I grew up hearing "Apache" by The Ventures in the 60s. I think my version is a bit more like their version than The Shadows. In particular those fills between the main melody lines. Anyway, it's ALL good, Surf's UP! 🏄🏻♂️
@@dougsteel In a way we were lucky here in South Africa. We got the American and the British records. Walk don't run was a big hit, and I played it in many bands.
I still have the old gray "mottled" National steel guitar my parents bought me back in 1968 while taking lessons on the "EZ method" of Hawaiian steel guitar. I can't play anything like this. Doug did a flawless performance.
This reminds me of my grandpa. He used to play the piano and the organ. He was always writing his own music and making it in his own way. Thanks for the video I feel like my grandpa is here with me playing.

He could play apache and also several other songs of the late 60's early 70's. They moved far away and I've only spoken to him once in almost 55 years...I wonder if he gave it up or still plays. I watched this video and it immediately took me back to my friends house and him grumbling about practicing while playing apache.

Born and raised in south central Oklahoma and sadly there isn’t any “chill” clubs or bars anymore. To many crackheads. Best place for this is a fire pit and cold beer (oftentimes homemade wine or moonshine) at a friends house out in the sticks. There is always one friend that can sing like no other and folks who play guitars and rarely the lap steel guitar. Videos of southern folks around bon fires, big trucks made for muddin’, great music and lifelong friends is actually true. I’m on my homestead sitting outside, drinking coffee, 😆 and just listening to the crickets and bullfrogs calling out for mates and at some point the coyotes will start. It’s a great life. Southern proud for sure ☺️ Still make the trip and go to a few bars and you’ll meet folks who will be having that chill outside get together probably the very next night 😉 God bless and stay safe!
This musician plays this like a music teacher I used to know down in Fl years ago. He owned a music store as well as the school and could play any and all of the instruments there. I always felt like a novice going in there but I loved his Gibson collection so much so I bought over half of them over time. Always nice to hear some of the old stuff like that, Thank you !
You never heard of a "Steel Guitar"? (Or a Pedal Steel Guitar? ) Wow! Many of us believe that the steel guitar (and especially the Pedal Steel Guitar) puts out the most beautiful tones of any musical instrument in the world. Not to mention players like Doug Beaumier; who makes it sound heavenly without effort. For he is one of THE greatest steel players ever IMHO.
This instrument is a staple on country, Western music. Heard on songs by Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Shania Twain, Glenn Campbell, Dolly Parton, LeAnn Rimes, Kenny Rogers etc.
Ventures, shadows, good times 70s, 80s.... formative years with Clint, Yul, Gregory, Eli, Marlon and so many such western matinee idols. Enjoy this channel very much, although commenting on for the first time.
You steal the soul of steel guitar you are playing. I wonder if the guitar is playing you or you the guitar... :-) Thanks for making us, the grandpa generation happy.
Would like a country music playlist too. Great harmonics, glisse and staccato, beautiful tone. May be you consider showing us your gear one by one some day.
Masterful picking to be sure. Who knew that a Frenchman could make licks like this on a steel?! Your playing is as clean and crisp as Hank Marvin. Nice!!!!!!

Who? Kooks, crackpots, weirdos and winos. That’s who hit the “dislike” button. A pox upon them.
@@Pianissimo1970….. and stupid…..🤨
The steel guitar childhood victims I suppose.
Oddly enough this came around on my play list this morning. This is spot on!! Loved it!!

Awesome Harmonics! I can listen to this repeatedly without it ever becoming tiring.
Thanks! I appreciate that. 😎
Love it! Reminds me of the "Steel Guitar" my uncle Bruce made for my Cub Scout skit..a long time ago.
😎😎😁
It's so satisfying to watch those smooth movements convey completly like it should be to sound. So simple to watch, yet so complicated to do really.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you like it. 👍😊
This was the first record I bought. It sure brings back memories. Thank you!
Thanks for listening! 😎

@@dougsteel Sounds so much better there. When I have more time Ill try to download but didn't see any options so far. thanks.
What state do you live in? You should get a gig at Tiki Caliente, Palm Springs. Its booking now I think.
@@dougsteel Thanks! Downloaded "Apache".
But I couldn't find "Ghost Riders" there

Awesome player and this happens to be one of my favorite instrumentals.

Thanks! 😎😎👍
My dad and I have been very much enjoying your videos, this is one of his favorites!
Glad to hear that you and your dad enjoy my videos! That makes my day. Many thanks. 😎
Excellent music,
absolutely beautiful.
Keep doing more.
Thanks! Will do 😎
I wish i one day can go to visit the south states of USA and hang out in a chill country bar, listening to something like this.
would be great !!!!!!!!!
A true artist I bet we've been hearing you for a long time just doing your great work behind the scenes
Thanks for listening! 😁
@@dougsteel thank you for putting out such a beautiful sound to listen to
This musician plays this like a music teacher I used to know down in Fl years ago. He owned a music store as well as the school and could play any and all of the instruments there. I always felt like a novice going in there but I loved his Gibson collection so much so I bought over half of them over time. Always nice to hear some of the old stuff like that, Thank you !
Thanks! Glad you like it.😎
Doug you are SO Talented. Enjoyed your music
Thanks for listening 😊👍
This is just amazing! I never even knew such an instrument existed and the wonderful sound it produces. Also I love this rendition of Apache!
Thanks for checking it out! 😎
You never heard of a "Steel Guitar"? (Or a Pedal Steel Guitar? )
Wow!
Thanks for the visit! Glad you like the music.
You steal the soul of steel guitar you are playing. I wonder if the guitar is playing you or you the guitar... :-)
Thanks for making us, the grandpa generation happy.
Would like a country music playlist too. Great harmonics, glisse and staccato, beautiful tone.
May be you consider showing us your gear one by one some day.
One of my favorite instrumentals. I really liked the Shadows and Ventures versions but this was awesome.
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. 🤠
I love your endings, Doug. For me, I'm all about beginnings and endings. If you get that right then the tune itself works, else.. well..
Thanks Erg, I agree about beginnings and endings. I find that audiences respond better when a song has a strong ending.
used to know two brothers who played steel and they were really good but one has gone to the great guitar heaven in the sky and the other one quit
Santo and Johnny Farina?
I think they’re both alive. Santo releases some stuff once in a while and Johnny is still touring with his band.
One went to Denver, and the other went wrong.
Masterful picking to be sure. Who knew that a Frenchman could make licks like this on a steel?! Your playing is as clean and crisp as Hank Marvin. Nice!!!!!!
Thanks! Actually, I’m USA, and French in name only. Most of my ancestry is northern European. 😎
@@dougsteel I knew you were American, but your surname can not to be mistaken for anything other than French!
This is literally the clearest 480p video I've ever set my eyeball's in focus on the pixels in which reflects back and forth to my retina, and thus sending my brain a message saying "damn.. Yea...🤔 Like damn!..That's pretty clear!" ..
It was made with an iPhone, nothing special. The sun was shining brightly through the window though! 😎
Haha, it looks amazing!@@dougsteel
That's beautiful it brings back lots of memories from my childhood, that is so well played, absolutely love it.❤♥️❤♥️
Glad you like it! 😎
YES !! 👍👍👍👍👍
this is the best video i could possibly find randomly XD. This is such a good song, oml. And that rendition on the steel guitar. IT'S LIKE HEAVEN to me
Thanks! I’m glad you like it! 😎
Beautiful music. No one can make music like this anymore. 😊
😎 Glad you like it 👍
Lynn is that you?😊🤓
@ No Lynn here
This takes me back to those care free days of the ‘60’s. Thank you for this great performance!❤️
