I lived on rice porridge and onigiri with umeboshi when I was pregnant with twins years ago. The combination of rice, umeboshi, and seaweed in onigiri was one of the few foods I could reliably digest, so I ate them with the porridge almost every single day. It’s interesting that one child still adores those foods and asks for them whenever they don’t feel well or are feeling sad, but the other is not a fan of umeboshi or any type of seaweed.

Good work! My childhood sick meal menu is Okayu with Umeboshi ( pickled plum), simmered cod (or other white meat fish), miso soup and grated apple. My grandmother sometimes gave me bite-sized soft bread in warm milk between meals.

I cooked for a long time macrobiotic food, which came from Japan even to former Yugoslavia. I experienced unbelievable transformation not only health and physical appearance wise, but spiritual as well. Your cooking inspired me to go back to highly sophisticated yet simple cooking and food. I am so grateful for your channel. Michio Kushi spread the concept of organic, local and integral food that supporters our perfect health. I don’t know if he is still alive but I know that he had a Macrobiotic institute in Boston, precisely near Boston. For almost two decades North American experts in food are suggesting what healthy food is, but nobody is mentioning Michio Kushi, a pioneer of MB in N. America from whole all those ideas originated. He came here after the Second World War and I guess people were hesitant to acknowledge his contribution to nowadays healthy diet.

Very interesting. In Spain rice porridge and grated apple is used when you have a loose stomach (with grilled chicken breast). Also, honey mixed with lemon or milk when you have a sore throat. I may try the scallion soup (it's a type of onion, and I don't like onion U_U, but I like the look of it).

When we were kids and had colds or fever, my mom prepared rice porridge but with diced chicken.
She would saute garlic, onions, ginger and later add the pieces of chicken and add some water to bring it to a boil. Then add half a cup of plain rice and half a cup of sticky rice. For taste you could add a teaspoon of fish sauce a lemon juice to taste.
If you want it fancier, add some boiled eggs on tip, some fried garlic and cut up scallions and voila!

It’s very soothing and it’s one of my favorite ways to eat rice when I’m under the weather. Today we are trying your spam musabi recipe I’ve never had it with the sugar and soy sauce however we put sugar and soy sauce in a small dish and use it to dip our omuchi in on New Years Day. Wishing you and your family happiness, great health and good fortune.

I would think these foods would also be good for covid. And once you have the mindset that they are healing foods, they might work for any health issues to a greater or lesser degree. I find nourishing gentleness is key in so many issues including emotional ones. I, too, loved the the response of the viewer who received so much help from your instruction. People are often quick to criticize but slow to compliment. Gratitude is healing as well.

I do not know what Taiji is doing but I can tell you that I use black Spanish Radish to make the same honey syrup. I slice up the radish and add it to my salad. Or just chewing it away as snack. Black Spanish radish is more spicy, almost hot, daikon radish must have a much milder taste. Very suitable for adding to salads in small quantities.
