- I visited the holy grail of N brand tuning, Courtenay Sport to have a "Stage 1" remap on my I30N DCT FL. It produced some fantastic numbers and is now insanely fast!

My brother had his done here a couple months back. People seriously underestimate how fast these cars are
Not surprised that the stock engine can produce that much power; there were lots of rumors back in 2021 about Hyundai wanting to release a mid engine sports car with this engine configured with 300-320 hp.
Its tempting to do this to my own i30N DCT, but I dont want to throw the 5 years of warranty away xD
Your going to need it. My friend is tech and ge is tired of blown engines.
@@JJJ.98 I guess you mean the American Theta II? That one is completely different one from the Theta II thats used in the N models.
Hybrid turbo remap 450hp
I still dig this car, and I think it's largely the most under-rated hot hatch out there.
Even cooler with a few tweaks :)
Go on Dan. My friend had one of these I thought it was epic standard. This will be nuts
Very interesting video Dan, learning about the turbo difference between gen 1 and gen 2 plus all the other bits you chatted about with John was brilliant. That's the kind of nerdy content I like. Keep it up👍🏼
Insane gains. Nice job!
I live in Norfolk and I barely see any other N cars about, but I think it’s really cool that the two main places for modding N cars being Courtenay sport and RPM just both happen to be based in Norfolk
any problems so far? i want to stage1 mine but i am concerned because the 5 year warranty.
Amazing Dan, congratulations, my pre facelift fastback only has the piper cross air filter fitted, would be nice to see what it's making to what Hyundai claim.
I know it's mad late, but my friend with Facelift '21 completely stock made 280.1BHP and 409.92Nm.
Forge 4in Intake + Silicone TIP made 299.9BHP and 448.76Nm.
Tune took that to 337.1BHp and 501.48Nm.
He plans on upgrading the exhaust with one sports cat as he doesn't want it to be obnoxiously loud, along with other bits in the new year, oil cooler etc but he likes to drive it for a bit after each mod to really experience every change.
These are mad cars for sure. :D
How did you get on with yours?
Even though I would love to do this to mine but I cant, its really impressive what you can get out of just a stage 1 and a couple mods. Looking forward to the next step and tune :)
why can't you if i may ask?
@@bagofsunshine3916 Simply the warranty mate, dont want to void. Yep I know people do it anyway and if I was a lot younger I probably would have :) That and till I pay her off, technically the finance company can force you to settle up if they find out.
@@richardgp5691 Don't. HAving well over 300hp on FWD car (on any) is simply bad idea. There is a reason why NO car manufacturer do that.
Great video Dan
Awesome video mate
Awesome work bro!
Courteney smash it again cant wait to go with mine but so unsure if I "need" the facelift turbo or is it a want. I have to say the rpm sounds terrible but its probably better in person
Nice numbers! I have a FBO veloster N in the states with a stuffed turbo. It puts down 343whp and it's a blast! I want to see how much power the dct holds
The exhaust specifically a downpipe will not add any power at all on a stock tune it will end up being the same or worse.. these cars are just underrated from the factory... unless the ecu tries to auto tune on its own. Onething to note that's fantastic power gains the power band is an extremely linear climb wich is going to be epically fantastic for performance
Sounds absolutely amazing Dan, do you happen to know what sort of 0-100km/h time you'd be hitting with this tune by any chance?
Front wheel traction will be the limit. The times to 60 may not be massively different. As Dan states though, that mid range will be where the gains will be. I’m sure 30-70mph and so on will be phenomenal.
Awesome video!
Whats about the gearbox with over 500NM?
Great video Dan & can you get any performance figures like 0-62 & 100-200?
Also what's the DCT gearbox mph per thousand revs in top gear? Is that much bigger than the 6 speed manual? Thanks 👍
Hi Simon, thank you buddy. I don’t that it’ll be very strong 0-62, but 100-200 is somewhere I think it will be fairly strong. I’ll need to invest in a draggy and try and find a controlled environment where it can be measured
@@DanBushell Uses the built-in draggy measure, I cannot wait to see what the times are. I'm not sure I'd want any more power than you already have. It looks too fast as is at the moment, great job by the tuner and well-done to you.
These hot hatches today are amazing, same as the new sports cars coming soon such as the GR86 and the new Nissan Z.
I30N next on my list definitely
i have the kona n and cant imagine it with 60- 80 more hp at the top end jesus
Hi Dan, I have a Kona N which I read is the same engine. Does your ngs button add additional overboost on top?
Thanks
Hi Janniboi, I believe that when the car is mapped, the ngs button becomes redundant. Although I can’t 100% confirm this. But the boost is set with the remap which runs higher than the “overboost” when ngs is pressed on a stock car
Thanks Dan, also just a couple of questions, I see the this video was uploaded a year ago, has your i30 n run into any issues since the remap? Also, i would like your opinion on tuning box which i read does not void warranty which I found appealing. Does it achieve gains equivalent of a stage 1 remap?
@@Jannyboi unfortunately I don’t own my i30n anymore due to the high rise in cost of living. But I know it hasn’t run into any problems what do ever. Personally I’m not keen on tuning box’s at all. I’ve experienced them and it’s not a linear power delivery and comes in very quickly and tails off to nothing
Thanks!
Is it legal and mot passable to remove factory fitted gpf?? Asking for a friend 😁
Hi Dan, loving the vids so far. Just interested in the spec of your Motec wheels, also where would you recommend to get them from? cheers Chris
Hi Christian, thank you buddy. Mine are 19x8.5 5x114.3 et45. If you’re UK based, best place is LK Performance but just a heads up they are rarely in stock and usually made to order, mine was a 4 month wait but well worth it!
@@DanBushell Awesome mate, that's great thanks so much..oh BTW when's the next post?
: )
@@FuturaKreative55 I have half a video filmed which I need to film the second half and edit. I wish I had more time as it’s something I really enjoy doing, but school holidays, work and general lack of spare time makes it really difficult unfortunately ☹️ I’m hoping soon.
@@DanBushell I know, where does the time go! Looking forward to the next installment! : )
Do they do remote tuning? Kona N friendly?
Edit: I sent them an email about remote tuning and never heard back.
Edit2: I've given up on this company.
Want to do this to my Kona N, but just will void the warranty
We have already done this to a Kona N 👍
It does void warranty correct?
@@Mr.Thermistor7228 yes it does void the warranty, your increasing the power on the car which means more stress on the components.
Wait wait you can put the new turbo onto the pre facelift car ? I’m currently looking at getting an i30n trying to see if it’s competitors are better or not.
GR Yaris is a competitor and upcoming GR Corolla.
Yes you can !
@@lukemothug3744 duuuuuude this (veloster n) and the gr Corolla are the two I can’t decide on. Of course the gr Corolla isn’t even out yet but I know it’s going to be insane. Such a tough choice
@@Mr.Thermistor7228 If the price is similar I'd go with AWD over FWD anyday.
Hi Dan,
Did you use only decat or full sport exhaust? Air filter still oem?
Tks
Hi buddy. In this video I had a sport cat and oem airbox. I have a more recent video with further mods and more power
@@DanBushell thanks a lot. Sound with sport cat was very loud in normal mode? My wife doesnt like nmode so if it is ok in normal mode without cat its ok for me 😀
Love your car so much 💪
@@parkourkubikoamatoskparkou2970 it is ok and not too loud when in normal or eco with the flap closed, but very loud in N mode. Thank you mate 😁
I noticed the wheel hop / torque steer as the power was applied so the car still struggles to accelerate off the line? I do miss my I30N but the crash / wheel hop was annoying. Obviously the warranty is no longer 5 years. Nice car.
Woah woah woahhhhh.. I had heard a rumour that these cars are actually more powerful than Hyundai’s claimed figures. So you got over this by the looks of it, that right?
Have you payed off the car in full or do you have it on pcp? I’m 19 and want to hand in my i10N for a i30N and obviously don’t have 34 grand knocking about to pay it off so was wondering if it was possible to remap and mod
Brilliant exhaust sound Dan ! Btw are you planning to install a Cold Air Intake system ? I see that you are still using stock air filter/intake. If yes any particular brand you have in mind ? Let us know. Thanks.
Hi Rais. I have just picked up my car from forge motorsport as they were using it for development. I have their intake fitted along with their turbo elbow. Collection video will be live soon
Any info on how strong the gear box is :) pick mine up today can’t wait
That’s awesome Dave. Enjoy it buddy! Sorry no, that’s not something i know myself
@@DanBushell cheers so amazing from just a flash tune :)
Well I guess having a former BMW M guy involved it would be strong 💪
How do you see the gearbox managing this power and torque on the long term?
That’s the important question I’m wanting to find out as well
Can you do some videos of the sound of the exhaust outside would like to hear the gear changes
There are sound clips on my RPM exhaust video of before and after
So on the i30N DCT FL, its E0 for gen2 turbo? Forgive me.
Hey Dan, nice video mate.... do you know what the HP is at the wheels???
Some say it now will do a full 360 under torque steer
😂
Hi Dan ,
What kind of boost pressure are they running on these files
Hi Joshua. From memory, 22psi.
YOU KANN SAY ANYTHING BUT I DONT SEE HOW QUICKLY IS THE CAR IN THE SIXTH GEAR!!!!MYBEE IS SLOWER US ANOTHER TUNNING!
I might grab that gen 2 turbo package for my gen 1. However, are these power figures at the clutch or at the wheels?
This is bhp at the crank. Same as the power given by Hyundai (276bhp) is measured at the crank. It’s strange as I think there is different calculations and terminology used in different countries. I’ve seen some USA and AUS numbers been measure in WHP but in reality (like we do in the uk) they are BHP at the crank. So roughly, a stock i30n is around a true 233whp which would mean my car is around a true 309whp. Hope that makes sense.
I’m based in Australia and have a Gen 1 i30N with the Gen 2 turbo. Also have dump pipe, intercooler and has been tuned. Currently running 344whp (at the hubs on a hub dyno). Would assume it’s running about 400-420bhp at the crank. Goes insanely fast! Love the video Dan.
@@gurujoshoz that sounds like an animal buddy!
It’s what the car was always meant to be! Loads of mid range and no longer runs out of power after 4K rpm. Looking forward to your next video mate!
@@gurujoshoz do you have the dct? Do you know how much power it can handle or how much your willing to push it too? been really searching for that answer but can’t, I’ll if many people have even took it to the limit to find out yet
Looks and sounds awesome. What is the gearbox limitation?
Hey terry, thank you mate. I’m not sure on the limitation although I’m pretty confidant it can handle the extra torque with no issue
i wish i cpuld get my hands on ome of those n laynards. they are not stocked here in canada and any ones i find are european and its an arm and a leg for shipping
Great figures Dan, was the tune done on RON 98 or RON 100?
Thank you buddy. Highest we can get here is 99 RON, so it’s mapped on that. If only we had 102 like in Germany
show us updated 0~100kmh on drag strip or something, if not , updated 100~200kmh will be good
This is something I’ll definitely be doing when I’ve had the car mapped again by Courtenay sport as we will definitely be able to squeeze more power and torque out of the car with all of the Forge hardware
@@DanBushell cool down, just watched that episode, cant wait to see more, btw how the car holding up with all new power and changes?
@@babisotonggg incredibly well! There’s been a huge huge improvement in throttle response and pick up after I’ve had the Forge hardware fitted
These open deck blocks won't like big boost numbers. What psi is this running at?
This tune was at 21 psi
The i30N has a closed deck
Wow quite impressive results had there, can't wait to see how the next upgrade results.
Have you tested a 0-100 time yet?
I haven’t no, these cars aren’t very strong in that department. It’s something I will try in a video later down the line though for sure
Do you foresee any issues with the DCT box and the higher power/torque?
Hi Michael, I’m not too concerned, I’m pretty confidant I won’t find any issues as long as everything is serviced correctly
@@DanBushell I think all VW owners said that too.. truth is this is new tech for Hyundai and they've only just stepped into the territory of performance vehicles. Only time will tell if these boxes are any good. Also as a side note.. the first manual N's had bad syncro's so my faith in Hyundai making good boxes is on the fence.
Hey m8 it’s a ECU Remap or external module?
Hi Ivan, it’s an ECU remap
@@DanBushell Thanks Dan, but aren't all the new control units blocked now?
Amazing car
@@ivancorso1905 not on the i30n which is a good thing for us. In the video, the ecu is open on the bench.
Hey dan, world love to do this to my fl i30. What does a remap do to the drive modes? Does it still have all of them or do you just have the 1 mode with the remap? Cheers
Hi Cameron. All modes are still active and different as they were before the remap. I can’t recommend it enough.
@@DanBushell thanks mate
Hi Dan does the remap affect pops and bangs?
I haven’t noticed any more or less since before remapping
@@DanBushell thanks I have a pre face lift and DTUK box on sport looses most pops and bangs so good to hear Courtney don’t loose them with a remap

I have the Mk1 I30N and although the speed is good I would really like to improve the 0-60 times.
Should of got a 4wd car if you car that much about 0-60
@@drewhobs I used to own a 4x4 Sierra Turbo which in todays standards would be classed as slow. Yes I would love to own a decent 4x4 that would be round the 5 second times. Anything quicker than that, I feel would make the car undrivable n a normal road. I may be wrong.
whell brand end name?
Will this need bigger brakes?
Check out my brake upgrade video on my channel
It's a tea made in Korea, but it's a pity that you can't see it in Korea....
Are u talking about the Elantra N turbo ?
We don’t get the i30N in the states
The Veloster N OEM turbo is pathetic.
Ppl here are putting the ElAntra N turbos in their cars. Just need to adapt the hot side connection.
Too bad they didn’t have these when I got my Garrett GTX on the Veloster N. Wpilda saved a TON
Yeah. The I30N FL and the Elantra N utilise the same turbo. I believe it’s just the Veloster N DCT that is still using the phase 1 turbo.
Would this be the same for a Kona N ??
Yes we have done this already for the Kona N
Acceleration 0-100km/h (now) per second?. 4.8-5.0 second?.🤔
Next DCT shifting gears again for faster speed (-10ms), with programming. 🤔
1 turbo o 2 turbos?
Single turbo
Gracias!!
Are there any hardware mods?
No hardware mods other than the exhaust which is mentioned in the video. I’ll return to courtenay once I have all of the forge hardware fitted to see what extra power we can extract
Why you doing this to a fwd? The car is a perfect plaything stock.
Yes, just a bit tame...
