You're one of the only reviewers on UA-cam who has the balls to show us that you got a broken pedal. People are so afraid to upset the manufacturers of the products they're reviewing. I also appreciate that it didn't turn you off completely, and that you're still going to review the pedal when you get one that works, because stuff just happens sometimes. Major respect.
+Kevin Stephens thanks Kevin, that means a lot to me. I agree, most vloggers these days are just ads in disguise. I don’t want my channel to be that way. Real guy. Real gear. Real review. That’s my motto.
I mean...it's a no name cheap ass company that probably doesn't sponsor anyone or even speak english to understand what's being said in an american youtube video. We aren't talking about Boss USA here. So...tone it down a little (see what I did there).
I actually own that Kokko compressor pedal and it does an impressive job exactly what a compressor needs to do with a lot of sustain. Most importantly no noise and the true bypass.
seriously? it looks like an ikea cabinet door with carpet. screw a couple wood blocks on the backside to allow it to sit at an angle...how hard can that possibly be?
DejaVu64 how hard could it be to find cheap guitar pedals or build every simple thing he’s built in his videos? Yet you’re still watching them. It’s UA-cam. Lighten up.
Ordered the Kokko Compressor based on your video. Current pricing at TomTop is $20.99 and at Amazon $21.99. Ordered it from Amazon and got it in two days Took about 10 minutes to dial in the perfect setting for me.
something tells me that it might be smarter to buy cheapo full sized pedals, i dunno if theres any merit behind it, but id think it would be really easy for china to clone full sized pedals since you can pretty much find schematics of just about everything out there...id imagine mini pedals use proprietary parts and ICs
You might need a buffer if you have to many little true bypass pedals. The capacitance from the cable and the pedals will suck your highs. Maybe show us a cheap buffer? Only high end makers seem to make overpriced ones, maybe they make cheap ones. Love the channel!
There are plenty on Reverb you can get used for $90 or less. If that isn't cheap, there are some for 40-60 but a cheap buffer from a discount brand might not keep your signal as well, nor stack with certain other pedals. Or you can kill two birds and get a Boss tuner, which have great buffers in them. It's the pedal you would most often see on a professional's board, often because of the buffer, as well as they can be silent while you tune. TC Electronics makes a tuner I've seen quite a few people with but I'm not sure if they have buffers.
Jack The muffin Forgot to mention, I used a Boss OD on my board for years because of the buffer. It was an OD that I could use as a boost or just a tad of gain for shape. But the buffer works in them whether they are off or on.
Mosky make buffers in this price range and size format. I tried their Mosky Dec Buffer/Boost, which is a Wampler decibel + clone. It works great. They also make a simple knobless buffer called the Clean Buffer. I will buy one and stick it under my pedalboard, because it fits. Their headphone amp arrived a dud, but I got refunded by the eBay seller. In general, every dud I ever got was refunded or resent no matter where I bought it from.
I’m not broke, and I’ve had a bunch of vintage compressors, and I love the Kokko compressor. It’s like a dynacomp plus a CS-2. Just wish the switch was a bit heftier.
I know! That stupid green overdrive is a pain with a green screen. Not sure what I’m gonna do for the full review vid. I worked really hard with the keying to make sure it doesn’t disappear. I think I’ll probably rely mostly on b-roll for that
A couple years ago I bought a bunch of Joyo and Donner pedals off Amazon. 1/3 didn't work out of the box, another 1/3 created so much noise in the signal they were unusable. Of the ones left when I activated the Donner blues driver it popped so loud it blew my left monitor headphone speaker and would have blew my eardrum if I'd had them on. That's when I started to apply the "get what you pay for" rule to effects pedals. I've never had a single problem with mainstream pedals even bought used (so far)
+jdiggitty yeah I’d say if you can afford it then go with more quality brands. I personally gig with higher end gear, but I’ve gotten lots of requests to review cheaper options, so here I am!
I have that Rowin Tuner and was super psyched about the size and price. The display is bright and huge. The tuning precision is not good, but it'll get you close enough to jam. I wouldn't use it for tuning before a recording. I gigged with it for 2 months before the display would occasionally freeze or not turn on. It would be fine for home or rehearsal, but it's not reliable enough for the stage. Replaced it with a Korg Pitchblack mini for $40.
I ordered the Kokko compressor pedal from Amazon a few months ago and like it a lot, I use it for a lot of things, including seeing how it sounds on anything new I'm setting up, for recording or just playing, anything because you never know, esp boosting the signal well worth trying.
Gigging over the years I have also found another must that has nothing to do with pedals, but protection of your gear is a surge protector. I was at a gig back in 2005 and a power surged fried my Marshall Mode 4 amp head. Luckily it was under warranty and they were still nice enough to replace the head for me at no cost. Not every place you play at has the best power sources. Older places of bars are shoddy. Oh and I came back to tell you I bought the compressor pedal and its work pretty darn well for $18.00. The only difference it is name brand is called Afruaim. But its the same exact pedal it looks like. So thanks!
Once the mini pedals started coming out i was immediately sold(and i am usually the moaner that says things like "they dont make them like they used to"), however i bought a couple of moore pedals, i first had their analog delay and then switched to the reecho as i thought it was a little more versatile...i enjoy their size and the lack of battery compartment doesnt bother me, but the one negative thing i didnt anticipate is their usability "mid jam"... But on the whole its okay , as i dont jam that often anymore and for the few times i do, i still prefer a handy small little effect case over the usual overkill type board, amd i can get over their fiddly teeny weeny knobs...plus i wouldnt stomp on them as hard as i would confidently stomp onto my 20 year old DS1...but the price reflects that at least...
Best delay I’ve found for under 100 bucks is the Nux Time Core. It has tons of different settings, tap tempo, you can run it stereo if you choose to, and it even has a looper. It’s pretty awesome. I pretty much always leave it in my effects loop whether I’m using a pedalboard or not, just because of how good it sounds.
My favorite thing is that he plays the same riffs twice, instead of changing what he plays when the pedal is on. It really helps show the difference between clean tone and pedal
+coolestto555 thanks man! I really want to give gear an actual review. So many vloggers these days are just ads in disguise. I Don’t want that here. Just a real dude that really tests out gear.
I have a Maxon OD-9 and was looking for another Overdrive to use with the drive down and level up to goose other drive and fuzz pedals and picked up the Kokko Overdrive on Amazon. I A/B'ed it with the Maxon to see how it compared. While there was some subtle differences, in particular the Maxon had a little more gain to it, I was really impressed by how well the Kokko performed and it's fit my use better than I could have asked for from such a cheap pedal.
Not necessarily cheap, but micro in size and weight (and by now having become indispensable) is the MXR Phase 95. Contains circuits for Phase 45, Phase 90, Phase 90 script, and even a brand new, non-script Phase 45. Buy it now!
The Kokko overdrive is basically the very same circuit of the TS 808, except for the true bypass, and subtly lower forward voltage diodes, which doesn't do that difference.
I got the Kokko Compressor and I absolutely love it! It has everything that I could ever want from a compressor. Also, try the Nu-x Time Force for a great quality Delay on the cheaper end of the spectrum.
This video is why I subscribed to this channel. Great down-to-earth information about guitars and guns. How can you go wrong with topics like this. Great video!
+Bladesaw I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about that. I made that pedal board in about 30min from stuff I had laying around my house. Maybe I’ll make a video when it’s time to expand it.
+Bladesaw I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about that. I made that pedal board in about 30min from stuff I had laying around my house. Maybe I’ll make a video when it’s time to expand it.
Have you tried the azor reverb pedal? Alot of people complain about the wobbly sound of it, I tried it and... it sounds like an old spring reverb, and I like that! You should try this :D
Glad to have another option. In the midst of building my rig and am leaning towards a boss katana so simplify things...although going digital is sacrilege
Haha I don’t think anyone has really given me grief. Just some teasing. No big deal. I just know that church musicians make up a pretty big part of the musician population so I wanted to throw something in there just for us :)
Yep,there are a lot of us church musicians out here. We play 2 sometimes 3 gigs a week. Very active musicians that play a variety of styles. And we like playing more for less
To be fair, I did receive a faulty piece of equipment from ali express ( 1 time out of about 30 orders ) and the seller was polite and eager to resolve the problem and promptly replaced the item.
"If I get a bad one, you need to know about it." this is why I like you. It's one thing to know about good products, equally important to know about the baddies.
I thought you'd like to know that I ordered all of these except the overdrive from Toptom, and mine all work. So well, in fact, that they're part of my new stage rig. The rest of my new rig consists of (surprise!) most of the pedals from the other review. I'm so happy with them all that I'm actually ordering this overdrive, the EQ7 and tuner pedals from the other review, and the Rowin Flanger, later today. I'll be putting together a small Pedalboard that will (somewhat) replace my Digitech RP 1000 effects Pedalboard for guitar, and my Rocktron Utopia Pedalboard for bass. I'll still pack them for gigs when I need some modeling that these pedals can't handle, but these babies will be my main floor rig...at least, for now.
Hey, I just got the compression pedal for the bass. I also play church, this will be for worship music. In addition to the compression pedal, is there anything else I need? I do like just a good sustain with the bass. Sometimes less is more, you know?
“When your keys player is still asleep in the green room” 😂 I knew those volume swells sounded “churchy”. You should do a “worship guitar tone” tutorial for us worship leader folk to help our musicians. Great content! Keep it up bro!
Dan, thanks for this (and all your vids) the deluge of "boutique" gear-most priced so that you'll believe "it has to be awesome", has gotten to the point of ridiculous! Thanks for this and all your vids-keep em comin brother, and God bless you and yours!
I bought that rowin tuner probably 2 years ago and I've had some problems with it. It seems to be a little spotty trying to tune on the fly and it's been off a couple cents from my other tuners that I have. I'm not going to completely knock them since I may have gotten a fluke but just throwing my experience out there with that particular pedal
there is, but a lot of them can be used for both. just be careful, guitar pedals sometimes weaken the low frequencies so they aren't great for bass, and some bass pedals strengthen the low frequencies that guitars can't even play.
Yo could you show us how to convert a pedal that runs on battery power/ has an attached power cable to a dc jack? I have a tc electronic chorus pedal that I love but it has a fat power cable that takes up a huge chunk of my board. That overdrive sounds sick btw!
I have that rowin because I traded my poly (worst decision) its alright if not in the signal path aka in a tuner out of a volume pedal. It doesn't completely mute your sound but it's alright
I've been a fan of cheap pedals for a while, ever since I picked up a caline Snake Bite from Amazon. I've used it for 6 months pretty regularly in bars and outdoor stages with great reliability. I'm seriously considering shedding my big pedals for a smaller form factor. Also, this effects lineup would be complete with a decent chorus.
The Kokko FOD-3 is great! I have one and it's so so nice. Great tone, pleasing crunch, and it's small and compact. Just watch out for those knobs, they're not glued or whatsoever, might fall off.
Ordered my kokko overdrive for bass but it only works if knobs are up to max and still signal is really low. Signal works just fine withou switch but not with overdrive on.
4:38 the best reason for watching your videos. This is the first one I watch, and now I trust your reviews. Transparency goes a long way toward reputation. Cheers!
Hey I just got one of these pedals and whenever I plug it into a 9-12v power supply it wouldn't turn on. Is it just because it requires a really specific power supply or did I just get a dud?
You’re welcome. A good volume pedal is something I wouldn’t cheap out on because it really does affect your tone. I recommend the Dunlop volume pedals.
Hey Dan! I'd love to see you set up a cheap pedal board just for bass, too. Based on this review, I'm probably gonna pick up that compression pedal soon.
+jackxero99 I think the compressor pedal is the best one in this group. It’ll definitely get you by until you can afford a really good one. Personally, for bass, I use the TC spectra comp bass compressor. But it’s about 5 times the price. This one is awesome for $18
Wish has a decent return policy usually. Can't speak to the quality but I've looked at the pedals before and the prices are decent. Always look at the shipping for Wish however.
Thank you this video was actually very helpful. I’ve kind of blindly bought two really expensive pedals that’s are really great but more than I ever really needed. I was always curious on what would work at a decent price and this helped me tons.

For the price you can't beat the overseas gear. 99 times out of 100 if something is faulty it's just a loose solder joint and a simple fix :)
HAHAHA
"OR if you're just plain broke like most guitar players."
*Subscribed*
Nome i literally read this comment as he said it
Benny The eraser doesn’t that make you feel connected in some strange way? I kinda love it
Broke like most players. lol That's the truth and an honest review. You know it is the dude can not afford shoe laces.
I actually own that Kokko compressor pedal and it does an impressive job exactly what a compressor needs to do with a lot of sustain. Most importantly no noise and the true bypass.
Now it’s time for a video on how to make that DIY Pedalboard!
YES PLEASE
seriously? it looks like an ikea cabinet door with carpet. screw a couple wood blocks on the backside to allow it to sit at an angle...how hard can that possibly be?
My thought exactly. I may actually have a cabinet door like that in the garage.
DejaVu64 hahahahahahah that's spot on....
DejaVu64 how hard could it be to find cheap guitar pedals or build every simple thing he’s built in his videos? Yet you’re still watching them. It’s UA-cam. Lighten up.
Church? Be shredding for god 🤔
guitarist CHILE mosh for Jesus
at my church we rock
he doesn't have shoe laces ( sorry for my bad spelling)
Yes?
guitarist CHILE it goes with the guns. 'Murica!
Ordered the Kokko Compressor based on your video. Current pricing at TomTop is $20.99 and at Amazon $21.99. Ordered it from Amazon and got it in two days Took about 10 minutes to dial in the perfect setting for me.
When you turned on the reverb I thought I started having a stroke
I love that compressor pedal. Works great for my bass rig.
I've got the same compressor, I use it for bass and it's really good.
great tip! I'm gonna demo it for bass when I do the full review
That delay sounds pretty epic
+Ian yeah I was pretty impressed by it. Only way it could be better is if it had a tap tempo
something tells me that it might be smarter to buy cheapo full sized pedals, i dunno if theres any merit behind it, but id think it would be really easy for china to clone full sized pedals since you can pretty much find schematics of just about everything out there...id imagine mini pedals use proprietary parts and ICs
Got my delay pedal from Rowin, I have to say its held up pretty well over the 6 months of owning it.
I have this tuner and compressor and works so good. made a board using my Boss gt 6, tuner, compressor, equalizer , noise gate !!! great sound !!!
That compressor sounds pretty damn good for $18, I'm impressed!
You might need a buffer if you have to many little true bypass pedals. The capacitance from the cable and the pedals will suck your highs. Maybe show us a cheap buffer? Only high end makers seem to make overpriced ones, maybe they make cheap ones. Love the channel!
+Jack The muffin yeah that’s something I thought about, I’m looking into it. I’m also looking into a diy buffer, I think they aren’t hard to make.
Thanks for the response!

Can the tuner tune to flat/sharp?
saint Jimmy - I was wondering the same thing
+saint Jimmy it’s chromatic, which means it can tune to any note in the chromatic scale (all naturals, sharps, and flats).
3:08, the pedal is blending in with the green screen
I know! That stupid green overdrive is a pain with a green screen. Not sure what I’m gonna do for the full review vid. I worked really hard with the keying to make sure it doesn’t disappear. I think I’ll probably rely mostly on b-roll for that

Ever try any of the DIY Guitar Pedals?

I think you should replace that reverb for a phaser. taking out the ondulation factor... you gain an chorus!
I’ve got some more cheap pedals coming to check out, a chorus, wah, tremolo, and an EQ. Look for the video!
Why No Chorus Pedal, Man?
So 80s ?
My favorite thing is that he plays the same riffs twice, instead of changing what he plays when the pedal is on. It really helps show the difference between clean tone and pedal
I have that reverb pedal long ago and it works fine if you place it after the tuner pedal
If you want a good cheap Reverb, try the Mosky Spring Reverb.
Major respect for the transparency about the broken pedal! Cool stuff
+coolestto555 thanks man! I really want to give gear an actual review. So many vloggers these days are just ads in disguise. I Don’t want that here. Just a real dude that really tests out gear.
I have the overdrive and I love it. It can really tighten up a muddy high gain tone or just give it some extra bite.
+ryanbwags agreed
I have a Maxon OD-9 and was looking for another Overdrive to use with the drive down and level up to goose other drive and fuzz pedals and picked up the Kokko Overdrive on Amazon. I A/B'ed it with the Maxon to see how it compared. +Rick C thanks for the tip!
The Kokko overdrive is basically the very same circuit of the TS 808, except for the true bypass, and subtly lower forward voltage diodes, which doesn't do that difference.

Literally perfect. I was just looking at these for Xmas and stumbled on this video. Perfect timing
This video is why I subscribed to this channel. Great down-to-earth information about guitars and guns. How can you go wrong with topics like this. Great video!
Show us how to make a pedal board as im messy af
+Bladesaw I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about that. I made that pedal board in about 30min from stuff I had laying around my house. Maybe I’ll make a video when it’s time to expand it.
+Bladesaw I was wondering if anyone was gonna ask about that. I made that pedal board in about 30min from stuff I had laying around my house. Maybe I’ll make a video when it’s time to expand it.
Yeah pls do
Bladesaw Mine is literally a wooden board that I taped my pedals onto
i second this. I'd like to see a nice pedal board build.
Yes, they work on bass. I've used many of these cheap clones for years on my basses. Joyo, Ammoon, Koko, Mooer, etc.
nice overdrive mini pedal. Nobels ODR-1 Mini is the same pedal rebranded and different knobs and more than triple of the price?
Did you try this compression pedal for bass? how did it turn out, if you did?
I’ll be demoing it on bass in my full review vid. It’ll be the next one!
I’d like to see the compressor pedal first with your bass if possible then the fod overdrive pedal
I have the Compressor and it's nice but it kinda needs an EQ knob like the Mooer Yellow Comp since the sound is darker with more compression
+Herrdesrings thanks for the input, good to know!
Have you tried the azor reverb pedal? Alot of people complain about the wobbly sound of it, I tried it and... it sounds like an old spring reverb, and I like that! You should try this :D

It did come, and it works great, I’ll be reviewing it in the next week or so
Nice. Thx Dan!
The tuning pedal looks awesome!! But how does it work with a bass??

Oh hell yeah more videos throughout the week i’m pumped!
Did you ever receive the new reverb pedal? Want to see how well they work!
I did receive it. I’m going to do a part two of this video with some more cool cheap pedals ive discovered, I’m going to demo the reverb in that video
Hey, I just got the compression pedal for the bass. I also play church, this will be for worship music. In addition to the compression pedal, is there anything else I need? I do like just a good sustain with the bass. Sometimes less is more, you know?
Hey Dan could you do a video on how you wired that mini toggle switch for that preamp you put on your bass
+Travis Arlow hey man I’m sorry that one got delayed. I’ll work on it soon I promise.
Guns and Guitars great thanks I look forward to seeing it
Can cheap pedals broke your amp? For example if for some reason electronic components inside the pedal got burn, that could cause an amp to fail?
That tuner pedal sounds pretty epic!
Guns, guitars and a host with good personality? Subscribed.
Thanks man! And thanks for the sub!
who makes the cool gretsch non-gretch you use?? . . i just lost a japanese tennesean :-(
Nice vid mate, just a quick question? I think a noise suppressor/noise gate is very essential did you find any info for a cheap one of those? Thanks.
“When your keys player is still asleep in the green room” 😂 I knew those volume swells sounded “churchy”. You should do a “worship guitar tone” tutorial for us worship leader folk to help our musicians. Great content! Keep it up bro!

Please can you make a video about how you made that pedal board
maybe I will!
I subscribed for your name alone. Guns and Guitars! Two great things that go great together!
Since they sent you a replacement reverb, why did you not demo it after demo-ing the defective one?
I didn’t get it in time for this video. I have it now though, so I’ll be doing a full review on it. This one works great.

When is the rickenbacker review dropping
irish conan two weeks ago
The fakenbacker or Rickenbacker?
+irish conan the review is uploaded, the full build video will be up by the end of this next week.
Did you ever get the reverb pedal?
can anyone tell me Is there a difference between Bass and Lead guitar mini effects pedals .
there is, but a lot of them can be used for both. just be careful, guitar pedals sometimes weaken the low frequencies so they aren't great for bass, and some bass pedals strengthen the low frequencies that guitars can't even play.
Im one of not so many looking for effects for a electric melodica, I guess im nerdier than most. Reverb, fuzz and wahwah seems just right for me :)
Yes a melodica! I had one of those, super fun to play. But I’m a nerd too
Do the compressor and OD pedal also work fine for bass?
Yo could you show us how to convert a pedal that runs on battery power/ has an attached power cable to a dc jack? I have a tc electronic chorus pedal that I love but it has a fat power cable that takes up a huge chunk of my board. That overdrive sounds sick btw!
What are your thoughts on the Behringer pedals?
I have that rowin because I traded my poly (worst decision) its alright if not in the signal path aka in a tuner out of a volume pedal. It doesn't completely mute your sound but it's alright
+Nick Urman really? Mine completely muted the sound. I typically don’t use the tuner out of volume pedals because it sucks tone
Guns and Guitars I use the MVP volume pedal so I don't experience that problem. You should check it out its amazing. Keep on rocking!
Do you have DC power wired in parallel so only one plug to power all the pedals?
I've been a fan of cheap pedals for a while, ever since I picked up a caline Snake Bite from Amazon. I've used it for 6 months pretty regularly in bars and outdoor stages with great reliability. I'm seriously considering shedding my big pedals for a smaller form factor.
Also, this effects lineup would be complete with a decent chorus.
+guitarstitch yeah once these are all reviewed individually I’m gonna be doing another set of pedals and chorus is the top of the list
Do tuning pedals work with drop tuning? Never really used one before
The Kokko FOD-3 is great! I have one and it's so so nice. Great tone, pleasing crunch, and it's small and compact.
Just watch out for those knobs, they're not glued or whatsoever, might fall off.
I agree with the sound. Haven't had an issue with the knobs yet!
Ordered my kokko overdrive for bass but it only works if knobs are up to max and still signal is really low.
Signal works just fine withou switch but not with overdrive on.
FYI you can buy any on the KOKKO pedals on wish for less than 10 bucks
Now need to do something similar with your Rick clone and bass effects
Dan, I have the Rowin tuner and the Eno Reverb pedal...both fabulous for the money! Got the Eno for $20 and the Rowin for $16.
What cheap tap tempo pedal will do a dotted 8th note delay? Thanks
Has that reverb even come in yet?
Dan, can you make one video about cheap bass pedalboard?
4:38 the best reason for watching your videos. This is the first one I watch, and now I trust your reviews. Transparency goes a long way toward reputation. Cheers!
FOD stands for Fuzz Over Drive. also, i was worried to try Kokko but i recently got their Space Reverb pedal & it’s beautiful
The analog tagged delay is probably a pt2399 chip. Not a rue bad.
Is there one for flanger?
Hey I just got one of these pedals and whenever I plug it into a 9-12v power supply it wouldn't turn on. Is it just because it requires a really specific power supply or did I just get a dud?
thank Dan was helpful and think I'll get them all at that price.need a good cheep val-pedle.any ideas guys?
Dan, what guitar is that that you’re playing? I dig it!
An old Schecter tempest!
Why am I just finding out about this channel! Love the channel name- and your vids are damn good! Keep on rocking brother- you have a new subscriber!
Thanks for your sub!
Thank you this video was actually very helpful. I’ve kind of blindly bought two really expensive pedals that’s are really great but more than I ever really needed. I was always curious on what would work at a decent price and this helped me tons.
Can i tune Eflat with that rowin pedal?
dan i allways clic your videos first in my subbox
wow you're fast!
