NOTE: This information is meant for educational purposes only .I am NOT a doctor nor pretend to be one. Nothing I say should be used to replace professional medical counseling. Also, PLEASE do your OWN research!
When I was young I remember my Mom asking my Pediatrician (at an annual visit) if she needed to be giving my sister and I a vitamin. I loved his answer. He asked her if she was feeding us fresh veggies and fruits. She said yes we grow a garden every year (and her brother supplied us with fruit from his orchard). He said that's good, do you feed them good quality meat. She said yes we raise our own cattle (her brothers raised chickens which we traded some for beef and her mom raised laying hens for eggs). He basically told her that he only recommend supplements to people that didn't want to eat a healthy diet. I wish we had more doctors like him but that was more years ago then I care to admit and the doctors today don't really care to study nutrition.
What a great doctor!
No they don’t they’re more ego than heart
Medical education is lacking nutrition .
I tend not to trust many doctors today, they're paychecks come before your health.
@@tional5266 they're more about money than health.
😆 my mom didn't call them hot flashes she called them power surges. Hehehe
They do kind of feel that way! haha! I think of them as flushing out toxins and that makes them almost feel good! :D
LOL That’s what I call them, because my sister calls them that!
Definitely.
Ha!
LoL 😅
I did not know that hot flashes could be caused by lack of magnesium...but I did learn that I had fewer hot flashes when I avoided sugar and ate lots of leafy greens...thank the Lord, He was watching out for me despite my ignorance!
Heidi, I too struggled to grow organic tumeric root then one day I discovered if you moisten them and put them in a snap lock bag, leave an end of the bag open a little you create like a mini greenhouse for them which makes them sprout. This method also works for things like Chestnuts if you are wanting to grow those as well
That is cool. I tried many ways and decided it was not worth it to me to keep hassling with it in my limited space when I can use that space for other things more precious to me and buy organic turmeric in bulk.
Remember to give a 👍🏻this lady's knowledge is golden💖
Occasionally, I make myself a treat with cacao nibs and coconut oil & shredded coconut, mixing with crushed chia, flax seed, and hemp seeds. I add a little honey for sweetness. After forming the mixture into balls, I place them in the freezer so they solidify. Then, I roll the mini balls into cocoa powder to coat the outside all around. The coconut is filling, and satisfies my sweet tooth. TY, Heidi for your super great ideas on ways to stay healthy.💗
Wow! You're like a walking encyclopedia! Thank you...blessings
I have pernicious anemia and have battled with it for years, but have changed my diet and grow more of my food organically now. Not to mention been taking herbs and other natural things. It's been 1.5 years since I've required any treatments!!
This is a GREAT video and extremely helpful. Thank you 😊
Grass fed beef and fat. Bacon, eggs, cheese, real butter, your anemia will go away.
Plants have lectins.
@@lt2339 I agree. I have chronic anemia as well and when I lived at home on the farm I have very little trouble. After I moved and had to buy my food, my anemia got out of control. Now I have a garden which helps.
Dr. Berg has a video on healing pernicious anemia. So glad you were able to conquer it on your own!
How did you learn what herbs and treatments to use?
Do you have a book in which you have all your wonderfull recipes? I love and wait for them
My personal favorite is Rye. I get it bulk from Nebraska. I don't eat wheat. Rye is usable almost the same. I converted my sour dough starter to rye. If you don't add caraway that gives rye bread that flavor, it is doesn't have a heavy flavor, but I like it more than wheat.
I'm glad when older videos come back around. I need the reminders.
Wonderful idea to do this series....I'm in the process of making a notebook where I write down the nutritional and medicinal benefit of everything we grow in our yard and garden.
Great idea!
I’m growing Chia seeds this year the plant looks a lot different than the Chia pet seeds. The plant actually has blue flowers I’m really excited to see what happens
Do you do anything special to get chia seeds to sprout? I have placed seeds between two damp paper towels for two days. Nothing has happened yet.🤔 I expected to see lil sprouts after a couple of days.
@@donnawoodford6641 I took a huge container out of my fridge and put them in an old - cleaned- mushroom container then covered it with a moist paper towel and put it next to a window. They grew in about a week and we ate the sprouts.
In the winter is when our greens are at their best
Buy an almond tree now and grow in a container until you get your property. I have 2 avocados, apples, cider apples, bay tree, tea tree, coffee, cinnamon trees, manuka tress, lemon, orange, mandarin, almond amd Moringa Tree all in containers and they are going great.
Where do you live?

Geez Heidi! Who knew? You are truly a role model and mentor. Love you!
*blushes* Thank you!
Very inspiring. Food is medicine. Thank you for sharing.
Hope you get a chance to listen to the whole video :)
All of my subscribers are now subscribed to you. You really are awesome. Thank you for every single video. Much love from Nottingham England to all of my beautiful brothers and sisters out there 👊💜👊
I can't grow tumeric outside, but it grows in my house in a sunny window. I grow it in a large shallow pot, the diameter of the pot is 14"x8" . I use the leaves in cooking. I live in northern Ontario in Canada .
Great info love your channel.
I have tried that before and while it started to grow and was doing fine, it got attacked by some pest that came in from some citrus trees we had at the time and killed everything. It was horrible. I really should try again
@gabrielwimmershoff7614 interesting so what type of or combo of soil do you use? Any other tips?
Cacao is an outstanding pre biotic too. I’m glad you mentioned cacao.
This will be a wonderful series! This is exactly what fell in love with your channel for! Thanks so much for what you do!
Thank you Teresa!
Heidi, I have been making powdered greens for a number of years now. I have a nutribulletRX due to diaphragm surgery. I do not make drinks as much as I used to, but I add the greens to just about everything I do. This year has been bad as I am battling a bunny who thinks that I planted just for it. I put up cloth last night and so far, seems to be working.
I grew Amaranth for my chickens last year and they were not interested until it flowered and then they devoured it.
Well, when I clean out the coop, I put the mess all in a pile and it composts beautifully (a little high in Nitrogen for the garden - so add epsom salts) - but this year, it is growing Amaranth - lots of amaranth. And, I grew red chard for them and they were not real interested - but I thought it was pretty for a salad and started picking some to dress it up - well, it is delicious. Don't think I will ever even consider kale (tried it - no no). I take my crops during the seasons when there is too much for me and I clean and dehydrate (and yes, I dry them out some before to save time). They are all kinds of mixes from red lettuce to endive - about anything - except parsley and spinach (I do them separately). I just put the year on the jar and keep using it in everything - my mushroom dishes, mashed potatoes, eggs, etc. If you read all the charts, I could never eat enough of it (not concentrated like this) and get enough nutrition. OH and the king and queen of greens is parsley and pretty easy to grow with no bunny 😞
BTW, did you know that bunnies are MUCH faster than even German shepherds. Really fast! I read many years ago that parsley has more nutrition per spoonful (or any measurement) than anything else you can eat. You do not have to eat the curly thing on top of your piece of meat - just powder it and into every pot of beans or casserole or stir fry, etc.
I'm new at all this. I've developed Fibremialgia and used to have my own garden with veggies but am now physically too sore to garden. Any thoughts how I can get decent leaf veggies to dry? We have a farmers market but don't know if vit/mineral content is high or how to preserve dried veggies in Australian hot climate.
@@bbb649 can you put a few grow bags in a sunny window or just outside? That's what I did. Put a few onions and herbs, greens in pots right outside. Many do well in containers. Some do ok indoors.
Would definitely be interested in your channel wow!
@@bbb649 are you gluten free?
I grind flax seed in the blender and I put rolled oats in the blender with it to absorb the oil so it doesn't get lumpy. Rice flour or other gluten free flour provides the same effect. I use all of these together in my gluten free baking so they get mixed together anyway. That was poorly worded but you get the idea.
I am binging on your videos today, Heidi. Oh my GOSH - what an incredible wealth of information. Praise God for you, and thank you for going above and beyond - I am so blessed by you!!!
broccoli is very easy to grow and tastes amazing, even the leaves can be used as pot greens, they sprout fast and are very good for you, also sweet potato leaves are very good and dry well for tea or used stir fry or pot greens, those are two plants that are super easy, once you eat broccoli out of your own garden you will never want store bought again, I use super light dust of DE earth to keep bugs off, completely non toxic and editable, just don't breath the dust.
Thank you for comments. I too, enjoy inviting Heidi into my home from her home. Abba is good all the time. Iron sharpens iron. 👩🌾👨🌾Great to enjoy the abundance of traditional preparations.
Amending soil is a good topic. Thank you
So very informative. Thanks for sharing and caring about helping others. God bless you and your family
Hi Heidi, What great info - love the idea of using the greens mix to make a magnesium rich tea. And buckwheat - I love that!! We make "Kasha" a lot. My mom raised me on that!! Plus we sprinkle soaked and dried buckwheat on top of our morning soaked oatmeal. They add such a nice crunch! Like the idea of the adding poppy seeds to different things. (LOL - the Chia Pets!!) Thanks for so many wonderful tips!! Love, Mary
I've learned a ton from you! I'm working on going off thyroid meds and feel more confident than ever that I can do it! Thanks so much.
Buckwheat grows great in my area. The trick is finding affordable equipment to hull those little hummers Maybe your husband can figure that out?
Wild Docks, and California Buckwheat flower seeds can be gathered at the end of the season when they dry on the plants. I grind them and add in baking. I also harvest Stinging Nettle seeds, dry them, and sprinkle them on top of almost everything, as well as using in baking, especially things like flatbread and seed crackers.
Please talk about the high oxalates in many greens. Especially hard for any with kidney weakness.
I am so Thankful that I love my veggies 😍 I notice how I feel after and that's why I love them. Spinach loves lava rock and certain Clay's when my mom was living in Oregon she planted spinach LET me tell you that was the Best spinach I have ever had😁 Be Blessed 😇 oh almost forgot she planted them under the pine trees. See ya soon
yes beautiful nature queen 👸🏻 🌹🍃.. denatured food prevalent .. esp past year .. spices denatured .. cheap unhealthy oils added to labeled organic butter & honey ..supermarkets selling GMO (no labeling required in USA) foods .. gmo is even labeled as organic .. keep up great work ..Love U♥️🍃💫
This is pretty amazing. We starting a series Grow Your Supplements a few weeks ago. We feel the same way you do that everyone who teaches has a supplement to sell. That turns us off from them. We truly believe we can grow our supplements. We are for Growing, Preparing, Eating and growing it well in nutrient dense soil. This is great that more than one of us will be doing this.
I did not even realize you had a channel! How cool we are on the same wave length. I will subscribe and hopefully be able to find time at some point to check out your series :)

Poppyseed in coleslaw was a tip I go
It from a restaurant.
Thank you, thank you. We are about to retire and money will be tight, so I need to grow mine instead of buying them. Please do more of these!!
Peas, buckwheat, and sunflowers all make great microgreens you can grow indoors or outside. I like to grow these in Ocean Solutions potting mix so that I can keep them growing for 3-4 weeks and harvest just what I want to eat each day.
What seeds should we NOT eat the micro greens? Do you know?
There are a lot of plants we wouldn't eat. But if you shop somewhere like True Leaf Market, they're not going to sell seeds labeled "microgreens" if we shouldn't eat them.
They also sell kits for people getting started. But I can tell you that peas, buckwheat, sunflowers, radishes, brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, etc.), basil, and salad mixes are all great.
I don't bother with beets because although they're tasty and have big seeds, they produce sprouts and greens so small it isn't worth it to me to grow them.
I do research when choosing microgreens for poultry because sometimes what we can eat differs from what they should eat. (Not often.) @@darlatobin2240
I'm really looking forward to this series! I grow Moringa in my backyard. I dry the leaves which I grind up and put in size 00 capsules and consume for a daily nutritional supplement. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe you can help me out. I did the same, but both in capsule as as a losse powder, the Moringa burnt in my stomach. Do you experience this as well?
@@jcgirl3 try taking it with food (some fat source) and see if it helps
@jcgirl3 I also read that people with sensitive stomachs to Moringa benefit from lightly cooking it before drying it.
They also found that many of the nutrients are destroyed when cooked too hot, and for long periods of time.
So watch out for that.
They recommended cooking at a low boil for less than 30 minutes.
Hope that helps! ❤️
@gardengatesopen also, drink the liquid from boiling as many of the nutrients are in the water. I'm not sure about the taste, but maybe cornbread will help 😉
@Lois Ray yes, maybe cornbread WILL help!
Good idea. ❤️
But hopefully, the light cooking process will not claim too many nutrients.
As I understood it,
it's just a "very light cooking" of it, and this helps a lot with stomach and digestive issues vs. consuming it raw.
But hey,
if you CAN drink it,
more power to ya!!
Wow ..learn so much here..God Bless your energy !
I am falling in love with your channel the more I watch. Thank you for all the info!!!
Thank you!
I like your tone of voice, you are cut for a great teacher

I don't know why it took me so long to find this post, but it's lifechanging! Thank you so much for empowering me to ditch purchased supplements and make my own from the garden!
Magnesium is an essential nutrient for healthy muscles, relieves symptoms of Fibromyalgia, had a Fig tree, backyard, Great Tree, Great Fruit!
Great video! I still take handfuls of supplements, but I am getting into gardening to do more of what you recommend here. 👊🏻🌻👊🏻

I have a jar of most of the ones you mention in capsules sitting on my table that I bought off Etsy. and ordered some I didn't have. Love my herbal collection! ♥♥
Thank you and God bless! Love to hear you explain. This is how everybody should take care of their family
I like to make my own chocolate now and then..(mainly for my dad) as you say, it has to be organic cacao butter and cacao powder, the only other ingredients I use are maple syrup and vanilla or peppermint to flavour it. It is so expensive for the ingredients but it's a treat now and then :)
Yes, I have been doing that for quite a number of years and have many recipes out. My most basic one involves only the Cacao butter, Cacao powder, and raisins though any sweet dried fruit would work
Awesome info
