I built my own 4T65E. Zzp input and output shafts, reinforced baskets, kevlar clutches, TH125 chain and sprockets. Drilled spacer plate, transgo shift kit, sonnax boost valve, 12x12x1 plate and fin cooler. Got about 10k on it now putting down 380 wheel daily driven
Glad ya'll are finally recognizing the 4t80e as the most robust option. Nice and thorough with the tidbits. Much better with many of the "soft shift" valves deleted internally....they really went to 11 with the NVH compromises/features for the finicky Caddy buyers. Someday we'll look at two ls4s for the 442

@@LS4King we had the subframe on the ground on "rollers" set the engine and trans down onto the subframe (after some light shaving for clearance) lowered the car down then caught 4 bolts... Nice n smooth👍
That looks super clean and ready for some great performances. I have the 5.3 with an aftermarket remanned 4t65e hd that I ended up going with after my previous 2 transmissions were shredded to pieces. Still holding onto the road with an 06 Impala SS for 18yrs now 🤞🏾🤞🏾

This is awesome, planning on swapping into a X-Body. You can beef up the 4T-65E HD to handle the power ZZP does this and many others. My issue would be the plumbing but the front cover solves that issue. I'm going more a simple small block 383 N/A but this is all paper planning. Anyways great content and can't wait to see the finished product.

So I bought an ls4 not knowing what I was looking at and I my idea was to put it in my Jeep . I do know that the bolt pattern on the ls4 matches the bolt pattern on a 60 degree 700r4 would you know if I could make that work as far as fly wheel, your oil pan starter provision or another type of starter set up . And lastly I’m sure I could get the motor mount situation fabricated. Could you let me know if it seams possible to do I can’t find anything on any forums about ppl finiothis type of project
aaron parfitt the 4t65e that the LS4 originally came with has been proven time and time again to be problematic at moderate power levels. The 4t80e is a much stronger transaxle. In a Fiero which is significantly lighter than a w-body I feel you would be much more successful at keeping a 4T65e alive and this swap probably isn’t for you.

Precision did a hybrid converter for me. It has the "guts" of a 4T80E, in the shell with a billet cover of a 4T65E. They were really cool about working with me on it. Charged me 1k at the time (about 2 years ago?) SO it bolted up to my stock LS4 flexplate. To Brandon's point, trying to get a billet one made is tougher. I talked with Meziere, they do have a drawing for one, but you'll notice from the edge to center the LS4 flexplate has two "steps". The one they made only has one. They had me take a boatload of measurements to make sure theirs would work, but after all was said and done, they were only about 90% sure there wouldn't be any interference issues. So sticking with the stock one for now.
Are all the shift control logics of the 4l80e (line pressure, pwm for lockup frequency, ect.) the same as the 4t80e? I have a standalone controller for the 4l80e so that should work for the 1999 and down 4t80e right
Rick Dangerous it really comes down to your goals. Under 400whp you could throw money at a 4t65 and have it probably stay together. Anything over that and you are playing with fire in my opinion. That is where the 4t80 comes in. The downside to the 4t80 is just how labor intensive the swap is.
on your lower bellhousing ear that gets cut off,, have you ever considered Tig welding up a different style boss and drilling then tapping a new higher mounting hole,, even if the hole is a little sketchy you can alway install a helicoil and with any luck have that lower hole mountable.. I see your 3D printed adaptor you made and I get the function of it but I just wonder if welding and making a new mounting hole would work
It's certainly not a bad idea...but it is most likely far beyond the average enthusiasts skill level. The clamp is a solution that the average guy can just bolt on for some added insurance.
@@LS4King absolutly,, and I highly believe the clamp will more than help in all situations,,I guess I am lucky that on a daily basis I do my share of AC Tig welding and have no fear of aluminum material,,, hence my job fixing tire molds.. and you are correct,,, slamming the pedal and laying a row of aluminum is not up to everyones skill unlike pulling the trigger of the mig welder,,, and even at that I have done alot of AC mig welding in my work career,, I wish we were closer I think our combined skill of fabrication and welding we could rewrite the LS4 world in its potential

So the LS4 transmission flex plate/drive plate is already a 3 bolt pattern. If it's factory set up like that, would an LS4 engine bolt into a 2010 Impala to the transmission like it was made for it???
Concerning the torque converter... How much space should be between flex plate and convertor pads to allow for converter swell and proper pump flex on input shaft?
I bet you get a lot of questions regarding a swap from the 4T65e to a 4T80 with a V6. I only ask because I have a friend that wants to build up his SC'd 3800 Bonneville.

Is there any close ration gear sets that can be used for racing and or off road options ?? What max power can it handle ??? If I ProCharger or supercharge it it could go north of 1,000 HP …. Hey Glenn! Thanks for the kind words! PCS does offer a trans controller with the option to integrate paddles which would work excellent. Unfortunately at this time, there are no aftermarket gear sets. As for power handling capacity; I have personally put over 800whp and 700ft-lbs through a stock unit with unknown mileage problem free. I think a carefully prepared rebuild would easily support 1k ft-lbs with the normal tricks.

Facts! Never tighten any bolts untill every bolt is threaded I can't count how many times ive made that stupid mistake how many hours accumaltive total wasted over 12byear or so

Facts! Never tighten any bolts untill every bolt is threaded I can't count how many times ive made that stupid mistake how many hours accumaltive total wasted over 12byear or so
