Thanks for a great video! I am from the USA and what kept going through my mind was the lovely hymn/song "The Holly and the Ivy". Truly a gread video and the views were excellent too! Thanks, George
Thanks George, much appreciated. Especially because "The holly and the ivy" is now going through my head as well 😄 It's made me feel quite festive. Thanks again Martin
Oh dang. I think I'm all caught up with your videos now. 😭 A nice gentle prune is what the dr ordered. Is this one of your regular customers? This was a huge hedge! I bet your shoulders were toast after that. Beautiful job as usual! Blessings from Washington💛🖤💛 Stacy
Oh dear 😅 fortunately I'm filming two more this week. Yeah, this one was for a regular client. They've got a very large garden. As you could probably tell by the size of the hedge 😂 lots and lots of mowing to. But it's a wonderful place, very rural and quite. When I'm not there anyway, with some garden power tool blazing away.
A lovely privacy hedge! You did a great job trimming it, you have a straight eye 🙂And that big old tree by the trampoline had an amazing hollow in it, I can just picture a couple of owls nesting in there, beautiful. 👍🏻🏆👍🏻
Oh, you do have a keen eye for natural beauty Debbie ☺️ I noticed that as well, it's a lovely ancient looking apple tree. It's definitely the place where owls would go. They are around this in this location. Bats also 👍 Nice to hear from you again, and as always I appreciate your kind words and also your appreciation of the natural world. ☺️
Thanks 😊 yeah it was quite substantial. Fortunately, it only needed a quick tidy. Otherwise, my arms may have dropped off 🤣 Thanks for the comment. Martin.
🤣 Oh, hello again, my Danish friend 👋 unfortunately I didn't see any frogs this time, although this also meant non needed rescuing 😁 which is a bonus. I did, however, briefly see a mole 👍😂 Kindest regards Your English frog guy 😊
This has nothing to do with the hedge but I hope she gets rid of the trampoline - it looks like it's been out in the weather too long. If so, the trampoline part has doubtless lost its elasticity. The garden is lovely & the hedge is magnificent! Another garden beautifully sorted out!
Haha, you're right. It's a total eye sore, it's a shame, really. The kids who used to play on it are now all adults. It could have been given to someone else's children. But instead, it's been left to rot. 😥 It'd not even be safe to clean up and use anymore.
Nice work, Martin. Just found your channel and am enjoying your work. Glad you like Japanese garden secateurs. I’m a Brit living in Japan and if you need something from here for the garden, let me know.
Well spotted sir! You definitely have an eye for detail 😁 yeah, they are truly one of the best I've ever used. And I've used hundreds over the years. Only Felco can compete on quality and steel. As long as I don't lose them, I'm sure I'll be handing them to my son one day 😅 Thanks for the message 👍 p.s I love Japan, I've not been for years. But it was an awesome experience.

Yeah, I tend to do most hedge tidy ups from mid-August to anytime before winter. The nesting birds have all fledged. This hedge doesn't need winter pruning as it'd just put way too much weak and vigorous growth on next year and leave it susceptible to pest and disease. I'm careful not to remove any berries or flowers (or at least too many) when tidying up. So yeah, there are worse times of the year to trim. Cheers 👍and thanks for the excellent question.
So when you're hedgificating like this do you give the neighbors on the other side of the hedge advance notification you'll be doing it Incase they want you to do their side as well?
Hello 👋 to be fair, it's different every time. This particular hedge has a farmers field on the opposite side that's been left to meadow so unofficially he does his side before winter. But on small gardens its what ever is agreed by the owners and neighbors. Half the time I nip round and cut the opposite side and the other half the neighbors do it. Although I prefer to do it, as the job never quite feels complete until the scraggly bits I can't reach are done 🤣
Omg ur local to me, im in Farnsfield n desperately need ur help! Front n bk grdn sadly, due to me disabled n not able to do anything 😏 I’d really appreciate if u cud help ? Xx

We could all use a little festive enrichment in our lives now. George @@martinthegardenguy
I noticed that holly bushes were popping up along the hedges. Christmas is just around the corner.

Fantastic work.. That's a huge hedge!!
Thank you, I was feeling it by the end 🤣 maybe I'm getting too old. It's like step aerobics but with a hedge trimmer for added weight 😁
Great garden George, nice job ❤❤Wiltshire
Thank you 😊

@@martinthegardenguy Well, if you decide to visit again, I am in Yokohama and the beers are on me. 🍻
Excellent 👍 second round on me then 😁
😂Dude, you really are "the man with the chainsaw"! I want to find a holy thorn tree and you cut the ones you find. Other than that, a lot of work!
Cheers mate, much appreciated 👍 yeah a lot of work, but very satisfying 😅
It looked like you were cutting hedges in a public park. The hedges were endless.
Haha, yeah, it felt like it as well 😄 🤣 those hedge cutters start to get quite heavy after a while 😅
Thanks 😊

Hey Garden Guy, Is this a good time of year to be trimming hedges in terms of wildlife?
