      @@Adrian_Zamora98 That will be me. Rogue Trader sold me on this universe being awesome, Darktide sold me on this type of combat and fighting on the front lines as just another dude serving the Emperor and this one will probably seal the deal. :3

      @Aedrion- that's pretty cool, I bet some years down the road, you'll end up getting some kinda of 40k models. I got hooked in from total war warhammer 1. Learned all about fantasy. I didn't want to take the plunge into 40k for 2 years because of all the lore and info. Once I did I was even more hooked now I have 20 or so books read and a Blood Angel army.

      Still remember my first playthrough and it taking me a solid 10 seconds to realize I had control of Gandalf during opening mission.

      Yeah.. only this games melee system is bs. I do not care what anyone says. You literally get busted up mid animation even when on headshot executions. Then you just get juggled if you miss that "window". Regular enemies like the basic rubric marines are ridiculously tanky. Shielded Tzaangors are laughably tanky too. Idk why they decided to do this its so stupid.

      It's a fighting game with shooting. Not a shooting game with fighting.
      Mastering blocks, parries, dodges, and counters is not only mandatory but essential.

      I was realy suprised and a bit overwhelmed on veteran difficulty. I thought its gona be pretty easy for me after playing SM1 on hardest many times.😂

    i play as a bulwark, and i saw the blocking type melee weapon and instantly thought "im gonna be invincible", that paired with the messing up my parry's from holding the block button a lil too long and i almost never parry. didnt know any of that until now lol

      I've heard (but admittedly not actually tested, Bulwark is the only class I've not had the chance to play yet) that you can get around the issue of accidentally blocking instead of parrying by double-tapping the button

    Another great tip for survival is to have good situation awareness, and execute strategies; When a Massive Enemy Wave pops (Whether by a reinforcement call or just a nature one) Locate and identify choke points in the maps, make sure you communicate with your team about these choke points.
    -Optimal choke points include:
    •Areas near loadout pods so you can constantly be refreshing ammo, armor, and abilities.
    •Areas with an escape route for you, but not another front for the enemy (these include mission progression areas like doors, obstacles, & elevators) Try not to back into a corner unless you have the required resources to hold it, or if you have an Assault or Vanguard on the team who can escape and split the hoard (I play Assault mainly, this is something I only do when I see that the team can't keep up with the hoard)
    If you can identify these points, and execute a sound strategy, survival will come much easier; Especially when paired with the guide in this video.

    You know, I always thought the "the enemies are the health packs" mechanic was a DOOM specific thing, and SM2 was just taking from those games. Then I took a look at SM1, and sure enough, that was a mechanic there, too.

      Even if you preorder, you can still refund on Steam if it doesn’t run or you have other technical issues. Realistically you’re not “preordering” the game at this point anyway; it’ll be on the same credit card bill next month whether you buy it today or on Tuesday.
      The question is whether you want to buy at release or wait for a sale. If you’re only buying for singleplayer, you may as well wait. I’m only buying it now because I’ll be playing it with friends immediately.

    The main problem is the dodge and parry indicator are not consistent. They need a timer indicator or something so you know when to hit the button. Or highlight the attacking arm or something so you know when to time the dodge/parry.

      the blue thing only pops up on leaps and certain attacks, a lot of normal attacks have no blue icon, they can still be parried and dodged however.

    The big problem with the game is we only have 6 mission for coop which are all heavily scripted, so people are gonna get burned out much quicker than they realize.

    A tip I know to do if you’re surrounded by tyranids is if you have the chain sword, spam the default heavy attack, at least one of the minoris enemies will give you the opening for a gun strike each time you heavy attack. So if you’re swarmed and you’re surrounded with no escape, revert to monkey mode and spam heavy attacks, and when you have enough armor, do the stomp attack to give you the opening to skedaddle

    as someone that mains sniper, it feels like gunplay is really overlooked, all you can do is plink at some high priority targets (zoanthropes/sorcerers are a main focus for me instantly) and ease the fight by removing those factors, while the true problem lies in the horde, and most of the horde clearing is better done by melee.
    to top that off, bulwark by far has the best ult, there's no contesting it even, heavy comes in second because they can block high damage ranged fire, sure, but that's all it does, its not healing anyone.
    sniper ult feels like either a dick move (removing agro which then makes any horde attach to your teammmates), or half support in the sense that you get a free revive without aggro, which still has you kiting the horde away so you can get to your teammates, and make sure they dont die the instant they get back up.

      I'd say that this is a case where different classes have different priority targets.
      yeah, the horde can really be the main issue that snipers struggle to take care of. frankly unless you're playing as the Heavy class I'd argue that melee is the only viable way to deal with the horde.
      but, ranged is basically always the safer option for taking out the larger more elite enemies (Warriors, Rubric Marines, Lictors, Zoanthropes, Sorcerers, Lictors, Terminators, etc) and having a good sniper that can reliably take out those units before they start troubling your melee squad members can be of absolute importance. if one of your teammates ends up in melee with 3+ melee Warriors they're basically dead, same for if they're surrounded by a horde whilst ranged Warriors snipe them from a distance. the role of the ranged classes is to remove these obstacles so that the melee classes only need to worry about the basic horde troops.
      ignore the horde and they're what kills you. ignore the elites and they're what kills you. you need a well rounded team that can deal with a bit of everything.
      as a general rule I'd say each team should have 1 sniper/vanguard (anti-elite), 1 assault/heavy (anti-swarm), and 1 bulwark/tactical (general/support).

      Just remember takeing out the larger ones, will kill a big part of hordes with them, when tyranids are involved anyways.

      @@dafloof.6291 for some weird reason I've spotted the same happen with Thousand Sons. I've not seen any Tzaangors die to it but if you kill a Rubric Marine close enough to the Cultists (admittedly rather hard to do since the Cultists are absolute cowards that always stand right at the back) the Cultists will start convulsing for a bit before their heads explode.

      You are not being a dick, as someone who does not play sniper, I’d much rather have the people I can reach on the ground focus me, while you kill the ranged. It really opens up the game to not have to kill the zoan or sorc with a pistol or melta

    Main issue Iam having moving from difficulty 2 -> 3 is the insane amount of dmg enemies can take. Had the oppertunity to shot a warrior not fighting back, it took more than 48 bolt pistol headshots for it to die, they can also tank 7 melta shots and be just fine. Need to do 3s to get better gear but it is a real struggle when a single enemy can tank 1/4 of your total ammo reserve >.>

      Oh it doesnt even matter what weapon you use. Even Relic Weapons do shit against them at 3 and above. They force you to melee at the moment right now, range combat at 4 for example doesnt realy exist.

    5:47 I would like to correct that gun strikes give i-frames. They in-fact, do not. You can even be cancelled out of gunstrikes by being hit with any sort of heavy blow. Executions, on the other hand, will not be interrupted by any normal attack that I know of. I have no tested, however, things like environmental hazards or attacks from operation bosses, like the dragon strafing flame breath for example.

      you're right that certain damage types/animations can go through it, but I'm pretty confident it gives some element of invulnerability, I'm just not sure exactly how it works. Leaping attacks, aura attacks, and certain animations from a single enemy that began before the Gunstrike seem to be able to go through and still hit you. Warrior heavy attacks for sure can, I've been chunked by them before. But I've noticed that the majority of damage that hordes of Minoris enemies would do to you normally gets ignored. Which makes sense, you would instantly die any time you gunstriked on Ruthless if it didn't prevent damage at all, especially in a horde. I've done a lot of Ruthless now, and never been hurt badly by a horde while gunstriking, but if I were to take up the same position and stand still without gunstriking, I would almost instantly die. And anecdotally, I played tonite and Gunstriked right as 5-6 Tzaangors all attacked me, I didnt take damage from them. So I think its not complete invulnerability, but there's levels to it

    Vanguard is fantastic for getting to enemies calling reinforcements as the grapple staggers the out of the call.

    The tip about watching the top for updates its crucial. Against chaos its often the only warning you have a terminator is sprinting at you with a sword.

    Ah thank you for explaining that bulwark issue - I thought you had to double tap the parry button, as that seemed to work for me but inconsistently. Didn’t realise I was just holding the button too long 🤦🏻‍♂️ will give it another go later, thank you for the info!

    Bulwark banner restores contested health is not a bug, you just got the "invigorating icon" perk

      it was a bug on the early build, it would activate even if you didn't have the levels to have the perk unlocked

    Just a note, the reason it's called block is because you are doing exactly that... Blocking the attack, unlike with the others where you can parry the attacks. So it's named fine.

    I started on Hard difficulty, that's usually the difficulty I start with on most games, expecting it to be a challenge but not too difficult.... Holy hell it took me forty minutes to make it through the goddamn tutorial mission when Titus was still in the Deathwatch. This game is veeery hard in my opinion. However, for the first time it genuinely feels like it's hard but skill and "pay attention" oriented.
    I was never a fan of the souls games. Everyone told me to try because it was so satisfying to overcome a boss who kicked your ass for three days. That always looked like far too much frustration for me. This game, on the otherhand, really does get better the longer you play as you develop your skills and reflexes with the mechanics of the game. I'm still new, still learning, but each time I play I feel a little more skilled and learn to navigate the controls a little more efficiently. I really really like this game and the difficulty doesn't actually frustrate me, it's kind of oddly rewarding to get your ass kicked in Space Marine 2.
    I'm honestly not even quite sure how to articulate it.

    My biggest issue with the combat is the ranged specials, especially the Thousand Sons marine, they are way too bullet spongy and is still 100% accurate at long range. The melee combat flow is fine and all, but there's nothing much you can do when you have multiple of these wankers just hitting you from afar constantly, you can't exactly shoot back effectively unless you use some high damage weapons to get staggered and they can face tank and entire bolt rifle magazine worth of headshots without flinching or dying while doing a hige chunk of damage back at you. Maybe it gets better once you get higher tier weapons and perks but holy shit they make every fight feels like a slog

    This game definitely has a bit of a challenging learning curve, i've played like 12 hours before i really started to feel like i was getting the hang of it, and I still mess up my parries lol, now I'm not getting melted so fast

    Melts bomb is extremely good. I can’t tell you how many times I wiped 5+ elites plus ads with just one melts bomb on substantial threat

    The melee skill progression is really satisfying. I went from struggling against 2-3 Tyranid Warriors and just last night, got caught in a massive wave on Substantial diff, my buddy came around the corner and just saw me 1v10 those warriors and coming out without a single scratch on my armor

    Your enemies can jump and lunge. Plus running is heresy... dodging however... is the shield of the emprah

    Tyranids feel very satisfying to fight at higher difficulties but man once you start doing substantial difficulty missions with the chaos faction the game just ramps up 10x in the amount of struggle.

    I got thrown a curveball for the first time today by one of the bladey boys where I needed to parry twice in a row instead of once
    Felt so betrayed after I painted its gene-sibling with its brain lol

      there are quite a few attack chains from the bigger enemies that need to be parried 2 or 3 times in a row before you get a gunstrike yeah. Ravenor and Lash Warriors for example

    I've seen people say the combat is clunky and poorly designed, and I can't disagree more. The combat to me feels deliberate and calculated. If you swing wildly you're gonna get punished, but if you take the time to react accordingly to the number of enemies you're dealing with you can overcome entire hordes alone.

      @pleasegoawaydude then play on a lower difficulty! It's an easy solution to keep the game fun. Also you don't have to play totally 100% perfectly, there's plenty of room for mistakes. That's what Contested Health is for!

I'll just be worthless in any squad. How is there room for mistakes? Where? I cant fucking find that room! I can't figure out where the fuck this health regen bullshit even happens because it has *never* worked, even when it was first introduced, so I don't understand anything and im so tired i jsut wjsh i was fuckingh dead i hat everything

    Nice video, i think u misunderstand the Bulwark level 23 talent, it gives everyone with missing health, a full white bar of contested health, while in the area of effect, they then can either damage/execute to get HP back, i thought it was gna work the way you described, its still crazy stronggggg, i liked your tip about running attacks for gunstrikes, gna abuse the fuck outta that against Tzeentch mobs XD

    At level 1 I feel the game is too hard even at lowest difficulty. I cant time the parry and dodges well. I dont know if its because of the latency of the XBOX controller or my parry sense is weak now or because I recent finished Black Myth Wukong and I see attacks differently. Its really hard. I mean If I parry this hormogaut then 10 little things come at you. you switch to AOE combo but then you are locked in the animation and he is now attacking you. You dodge and another 10 is at your back. Im having a hard time with the combat. I have played Darktide on Damnation difficulty but this one is hard as hell. I finished Sekiro, Darksouls 3 and Elden Ring with parries but I just cant see the attacks in this game.

      if you're having even a bit of fun i recommend sticking with it. i also think level 1 was pretty hard, but if you keep playing you will learn quickly. i could not parry well or enter that "flow state" until at least a couple dozen hours in. but its so satisfying once you get the hang of it. if you've played Sekiro or Wukong or any of the Soulsbourne games you'll be fine, just takes practice

      I dont think its completely false, because if it didn't give some element of invulnerability you would instantly die any time you gunstriked in the middle of a horde, which is obviously not what happens. Stand in the middle of a Gaunt or tzaangor horde without doing anything, then do the same thing using gunstrike. Huge difference in survivability.
      There are certain animations and damage types that seem to be able to go through if they started before your Gun Strike, like unblockable heavies with the red aura, and leap attacks from Gaunts. But it does seem to temporarily protect you from many/most damage sources

      @@milkandcookiesTW i Don't know. I am playing in a premade group of 3 and we are all agreeing since day 1 that gunstrike doesn't provide any s. In fact, going for a gunstrike often results in us getting knocked out of it and killed.
      So for the past 2 days we only do gunstrikes if we are safe and away from other enemies.
      I do think that gunstrike HAS to give s and it would make the flow of combat just perfect, but currently it is not the case at all from our xp

    I’d say start on easy to get a feel for it before upping the difficulty.
    It isn’t exactly intuitive, the parry indicator in particular. It’s really easy to twitch press it and then get reamed.

    I wish PC had a mappable button for the power sword mode switch. Right now, it's holding down the right mouse pad but I think when in the heat of a fight, I'm accidently switching modes and messing up my combos. Great game though, I'm having a lot of fun. Definitely a tough challenge though; especially at the early levels. I''ve had more than my fair share of failed missions this weekend either solo or with a live team. Thanks.

    I tried the campaign on veteran because it says it's "the intended experience" and then just got my ass handed to me for 2 hours. It really seems like the combat is designed around the player trying to combo executes, perfect parries, perfect dodges, and gun strikes, every few seconds. Every time you do one it pushes the swarm away from you and gives you a small window to set up the next one, and every time you fall out of that rhythm you just get fucking swarmed and disrupted. I really need tips and game knowledge on how to maximize finisher opportunities

    Pretty much my only gripe with the game, is the cuts in the campaign mission
    In SM1. You bassically walked across the entire map, each objective leading right to the next, with no bits of just cutting to you arriving somewhere else.
    While SM2 has lots of bits where it just cuts ahead to you arriving somewhere
    Its s minor thing, but mskes the campaign feel more disconnected

    Bit late to the party but how do you even perfect parry anyway, like when the indicator comes up at what point is the window to parry… got through the whole campaign and I don’t think I managed to do it once, makes fighting warriors a nightmare.

    Not a 40k fan and yes its is making me a 40k fan. Just as an avid gamer i saw this before it came out and knew it was gonna be good lol ive obviously know about 40k but the ip has never sold me on a game before and didnt sell me on this game the gameplay did. But space marines are pretty dope 😂

    I wish this game was more like Doom Eternal in the sense that it should tell you how the mechanics work directly. Some of the tutorials are vague or just don’t tell you very much. I didn’t even know you could life steal until a few missions into the campaign. I still don’t fully understand how it works.

    I wonder. How different are the missions on reruns? Is it just same old and you have to rely on your class/switching classes to keep it enjoyable for long periods. Or is it kinda like vermintide/darktide where the mission objectives are the same but the engagements/bosses can switch up a bit?

      it is very much like Vermintide and Darktide. AI spawn director keeps the runs varied and fresh, changing objectives, special spawns, boss spawns, and ambient enemy locations each different run. it will not be enough for everyone, but it makes the missions quite replayable for me. Just to clarify though, a place where you Defend generators will always be a "Defend Generators" objective, but the location, duration, and amount of things you have to do change each run

      there's also a fantastic perk upgrade for Combat Knife. halfway through weapon perks on the Knife you can unlock a hadouken superman punch that replaces the running knife twirl, its amazing for wave clear and triggering gunstrikes

    Video overlooks a glaring flaw in coop that is even constantly shown in the video. Every time you do an elimination near enemies. You take damage while locked in your animation. When you have armor this is not a big deal. As armor is easy to get back. When you are out of armor and running on health then it becomes a major problem. That is why most players are stuck with next to 0 hp for the duration of a match. Nothing to do with skill. There is a major mechanic problem in game currently that takes your input away and forced to take hits. For minimal gains. We definitely need to get more health and full armor on eliminations if we keep the current system.
    Also a little sus he has such a high level of unlocks so early. I bet he has not played any public coop matches. Because you will lose 80% of the public match ups. Unlocks are tied to match victory so its not difficult to get them. But that is a vast difference in progression from public to private in how quickly progression can be done.
    Holding parry to long instead of clicking once is definitely a hidden detail in the game. Good for pointing it out.
