    A fuse that keeps on blowing is an active problem and can be difficult to find. However, if you use these steps, you should be able to locate and repair it.

    This video is WAY under viewed. This tool RULES!!! I send people to it all the time. I wish Duane would make it a video response to my "How to find an open circuit or shorted wire the FAST easy way" my video isn't nearly as good and has 162,782 views. It would get more people the help they need- sell more of these gadgets- AND get more views to this video.

    In 1972 I had a 65 Mustang that would have a dead battery every three days. The charging circuit worked fine so I thought that may be the battery was just old and needed a new one, I bought a new one. But three days later, a dead battery again. Then one night I notticed if I got up close to the tail light it was very dimly lit with everything off. I found that the brake pressure switch was hot and shorting out internally but not blowing the fuse. A new brake light switch and no more problem.

You should be given the medal of honor alongside a title of greatest teacher of the year award. When I was an apprentice I worked with a tech who had that gauge type short finder.
    Once in a while, a problem car could try to ruin his day..
    He had to request the tool truck salesman find that tool for him.
    It was found.
    When I saw it being used, I couldn't figure why no truck that came to us had that available.
    I asked one salesman toolman I knew well , why is that?
    He said, "so we can get you to go to more classes and buy everything else first.
    It's better to have all of it and the knowledge you gain.
    Then, once you are qualified, it's a time and trouble saver if you can get it, but you have to know and ask."
    He had a few cars he solved in short order, so to speak.
    Our boss said, hey if you do that with that tool, we don't make as much on time required to find the issue.
    The tech laughed and said, why do you think I still have all my hair, and you guys are pulling yours out?
    Hahaha.

    My car died out yesterday while driving. Car would not start nor crank. Head lights worked but upon turning ignition no check engine lights, abs, battery or any other lights on cluster would light up. Could'nt even jump it. While the Shop was about to close it was noticed that the ignition fuse was blown. It was replaced and car cranked right up and started. No later than 1 minute Car died out again. Any idea what's going on? Would appreciate ur Professional opinion.

    • @realfixesrealfast
      @realfixesrealfast  5 років тому

      Good question. We all know assumptions can be misleading, however without seeing it I would "assume" that the duplicated symptom and the blown fuse are directly related. They should see how many amps are going thru the fuse, review the electrical diagram, find all loads on that fused circuit, eliminate them one at a time to identify which load (or branch) is the problem.Then that load (or branch) can be examined for the cause.

  • @doodleracing
    @doodleracing 11 років тому +1

    good to see a systematic approach.
    Some thing I have always done is not to use a fuse in the circuit at all.
    I use a headlamp bulb 55 watt or greater in place of the fuse. The bulb glows bright when high current is flowing in the circuit and dimly when low current is flowing. The load of the bulb protects the circuit. I wiggle all the wiring in the circuit first and more often than not the bulb changes how bright it is glowing when wires are wiggled near the cause of the short..

    I worked for over 4 decades on passenger elevators and I often ran into shorts to ground. Elevator fuses are also expensive. So I use to strip the insulation off the #18 wire and use one strand as a temporary fuse. The #18 wire strand would not blow if the ground was cleared. However, it would pop if the ground was still there. Most elevators use # 18 multi conductor cables to wire most of the elevator. I enjoyed your process. It kinda brought back old memories.

    Excellent video that details trouble shooting technique that can be duplicated by anyone. I find shorts differently, but your system is low cost & doesn't require advanced electrical/electronic training. Well done, as always.

    When I cut off my 2002 dakota 3.9 I hear a ticking sound In my dash right where the radio Is and I think It Is draining my battery .It stops when I unhook my battery. It really sounds like a clock. Can't figure it out. And my radio stopped working.

    what website has electrical diagrams for my 1994 Buick Regal Custom Coupe 3.8L. I cannot find them or any youtube videos for that specific car. Have active short blowing horn fuse; so far traced to steering wheel area. He suspects multi-function switch; I did nothing(can't afford yet)now have no turn signals/hazards (never had hazard switch) could it possibly be a easy fix like this was? Any info appreciated.

    Is this tool all in one? meaning that according to what you are showing is only a 20 AMPs meaning that the 20Amp tools will work for 5,10,15 20,25,30 etc or we have to buy one tool for every AMP thank you.

    Would I do this with the key in the on position or off?? And what pins do I place the leads in the relay?? 87 and 30?? I am an amateur attempting to solve this problem in my 2005 Jeep GC.
    Thanks for any help!

    For anyone trying to get the link to buy the Short Circuit finder on his website: the link isn't showing up in Firefox. Instead, try Internet Explorer. Go to his website, and just click "Tools for Sale" and you'll see it. Great video! To show my appreciation, I figured I would at least post this so anyone else looking for the tool can buy it through you.
