Maybe one of the most unique metal bands ever; they created a perfect mix of doom, death and thrash into something that was their own. I don't think I can ever get sick of hearing this.

Bands like Axegrinder, Sacrilege, Hellbastard, Paradise Lost, Amebix, didn't all play with Bolt Thrower but if you check 'em out, you'll notice how they are distant cousins. As far as unique, maybe Celtic Frost, but then, Voi Vod comes to mind. Come to think of it, Discharge and maybe Infest were the last unique bands IMO.

So true, just saw them 3 times, and once even thought whether it was a good idea to go to the concert because I nearly crashed the car on a 4 hour nightdrive back home (it was winter and freezing so sleeping in the car was no option and I didn´t have money for a hotel) But now I realize that it was worth it. BT were just epic. For the whole last year I was hoping for a lifesign of them, sadly the last sing we got from them was when they disbanded. They´ll be remembered.

RIP to Bolt Thrower, who chose to die (musically) with their beloved drummer. An all time great band that went out with class. I wish I took the chance to see them when I had it.
I saw them several times, being from the same area I saw them playing pubs before they broke out. One of the best live bands I ever saw, one time Jo's bass amp just blew up on stage and the noise was just unreal, as heavy as them!
I saw these guys in a 600 square foot venue in a the middle of a corn field in Kansas, back in 1990. It was as legendary of an experience as Bolt Thrower is a death metal band. Just basic raw hard hitting clean riffs screaming at you, setting the back drop for the stories of war that grip your mind's eye. Even after all these years the music holds up as well as the first time I heard and felt the power surge through me. Lest We Forget!

One of the GREATEST Death Metal Albums of ALL TIME! The Production by Colin Richardson is Brilliant as alot of his work is! Bolt Thrower though is just so AMAZING though that they carry a Power with them that's so much their own,especially here! \m/
Honestly I think the production is the weakest aspect of this album. It really lacks heaviness and the drums sound clicky. Weakest production of the Bolt Thrower catalogue. The 1993 live recordings of Unleashed, War Master and Cenotaph are way more enjoyable IMO because they just have more rawness and power to them
This album was my christening into death metal when I bought the cassette on a lark back in '91, as a senior in high school. I felt like I was the coolest kid in class. And, of course, there was my teen crush on Jo Bench!

Back in the old days of vinyl, I could set my LP-player in such a way that the arm would not perform it's auto-return at the end of the record but rather kept stuck in that last groove and create an ambient sound. I literally had that last part on for hours on end.

Yesterday, I was driving around 2 hours in the night. Suddenly, I stopped my car and I put on CD-player that CD. I flew to another world. I enjoyed listening to 'War Master' like 24 years ago... 23 years ago... 22 years ago.... OMG!!! I always enjoy so much listening to 'War Master'. Apart from this, I don't know exactly which BOLT·THROWER 's album is my favourite. Sometimes, I think that it's 'The IVth Crusade'; and in others times, like yesterday, it's 'War Master'.
When I had this album on vinyl I could rig my pick-up in such a manner that the needle would stick in the last groove and the outro would play on an endless loop. Excellent ambient tunes for the rickety squat I lived in.
Cenotaph ...the real Wall of sound!..bolt thrower came from uk hardcore background and theyre was always the same...war master and fourth crusade are the real bolt thrower identity...
I was always into football and liked heavy music, me and my little brother went too see these dudes live, and I remember the slam pit was mean and brutal and this band kicked fuckin ass. It was rad as fuck this was back in the day
I love the drumming on this album. andy whale did a fantastic job with bolt thrower. it is a shame he lasted until for victory. I am glad over the years though the band has stuck together well on the studio releases! old school DM at its finest!

I was always into football and liked heavy music, me and my little brother went too see these dudes live, and I remember the slam pit was mean and brutal and this band kicked fuckin ass. It was rad as fuck this was back in the day

I love the drumming on this album. andy whale did a fantastic job with bolt thrower. it is a shame he lasted until for victory. I am glad over the years though the band has stuck together well on the studio releases! old school DM at its finest!
