In my situation I cheated and I do feel it was a mistake. I was extremely drunk and I don’t remember a thing. All I can do is go off of is what the guy said we did that night. I confessed immediately cause I felt horribly and wanted to give my boyfriend the option to leave and choose someone better than me. It was my decision to drink and I should have been more careful. I feel confused shocked and disgusted with myself and I dislike the guy a lot cause he knew I had a boyfriend and I wish he would have been a true friend and not taken the opportunity yet and still I take responsibility. I’m so grateful my boyfriend understood. Yes he was extremely upset and disappointed in me but he respected me telling him of the incident and wants to stay and work past this. If I believed that I was in a long term happy committed relationship and my partner cheated in a one off situation that I would never find out I would rather not know. I would find it hard to forgive, I would certainly never forget AND I would never be able to trust him again. Once the trust is gone the relationship is pretty much dead anyway. Never thought I say this but I am starting to miss Tamar. I feel like their conversations and topics were better in the past. I understand Tamar can be a bit much sometimes but couldn't they have warned her instead of firing her? In my situation I cheated and I do feel it was a mistake. I was extremely drunk and I don’t remember a thing. All I can do is go off of is what the guy said we did that night. I confessed immediately cause I felt horribly and wanted to give my boyfriend the option to leave and choose someone better than me. It was my decision to drink and I should have been more careful. I feel confused shocked and disgusted with myself and I dislike the guy a lot cause he knew I had a boyfriend and I wish he would have been a true friend and not taken the opportunity yet and still I take responsibility. I’m so grateful my boyfriend understood. Yes he was extremely upset and disappointed in me but he respected me telling him of the incident and wants to stay and work past this. I’m still hurt by my actions and I’m being very attentive to his feelings and am showing I’m working to never let that happen again by following all his requests so I can potentially gain his trust back. I don’t want to lose my best friend or ever put myself in a position for this to happen again.

If I believed that I was in a long term happy committed relationship and my partner cheated in a one off situation that I would never find out I would rather not know. I would find it hard to forgive, I would certainly never forget AND I would never be able to trust him again. Once the trust is gone the relationship is pretty much dead anyway. Confession is often a way that someone seeks absolution but my observation here is that it is often done to rid the cheater of feelings of guilt leaving the wronged partner feeling wretched and bereaved.
