It is a great idea when you are angry at someone to stop and cool down before responding. As someone who was taught to truly appreciate all layers of music growing up - I love that Brad will sit and dissect the lyrics and find the bigger meaning; while Lex just exudes happiness and enthusiasm from the many different sounds and instruments. Your combined energy and excitement makes every reaction video enjoyable.

In a documentary about the suicide some of his former classmates were interviewed and asked about the song and some felt angry at the making of the song because they felt it was not fully accurate. FUN FACT- The edited version of this video ( which is what was primarily played on MTV and MUCH MUSIC in Canada) cut out many scenes including the gun at the end. The editing by the record company was the primary reason why PEARL JAM suddenly stopped making music videos during the prime years of their success. The group was so upset that the main message of the song was edited out of the video. It wasn't until many albums later that they finally did another music video. Keep smiling 🤘 🙂

I was one of those kids that got bullied like this but my mom and dad loved me very much and been together for almost 40 years but the teachers was always on bullies side and I took the punishment for retaliating. The 90’s truly was the dark ages. I remember I was in the 7th grade and I started dealing with health issues such as constant constipation always needed to use the restroom and the teacher wouldn’t let me so I ruined my clothes and got bullied for that too and I still have that problem to this day. I wish I knew what is wrong with me but even the doctors don’t know cause they can’t find anything. I hated my life growing up but I was strong enough to deal with it. I’m an adult now, i’m 34 and life couldn’t be better in the aspect that i’m engaged I gotta great paying job and my fiancee works where I work and we own our house. I thank the lord every day for that. Good things will happen just gotta be patient.

This is absolutely my favorite Pearl Jam song. In fact, this whole album is perfection. To me, it's their most poignant album.
Since you know the backstory of this, I should also note that the parents of Jeremy said that Eddie Vedder never spoke to them about anything to get his inspiration. They said they didn't appreciate him painting them as bad parents because it gave a false picture of their family dynamic.
They said they were harrassed by strangers and got death threats. And dealing with all that, plus just losing their son.

Im glad someone posted this. Pearl Jam never reached out to Jeremys parents. Apparently Jeremy had a good home life from what I read the parents said. I can't imagine having a song done about my child killing themselves, and have to bear the pain of losing them and then relive it deeply when they hear this song..lord the pain they feel 😢

And don’t feel bad about enjoying the song so much even tho the meaning is dark and tragic. Pumped up kicks was my road trip jam for a few years until someone told me the meaning.. kinda similar to this.
