    You are invaluable. I needed to hear all of this. I am also a time-pressed dad, and I am in the "rookie pressures" stage. Have fun racing = the best advice. Thank you so much.

    I started on ACC in December 2021, and I recognise a lot of what you describe here. Joining a community league has helped enormously with both speed and consistency through a change in mindset. Thanks for this

    Great video Ben. Like you I don't get much time to practice and I know I'll never be one of the fastest. Since joining the SCB community races my wheel to wheel racing has improved a lot. Its important to trust the people you race against and all the mistakes in the community are honest ones. I'm done with ranked now, it's too much of lottery. Plenty going on in SCB to keep me occupied.
    The most important point you made is that we should never forget we do this for fun.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому

      Cheers Paul! Ah yes for pure fun you can't beat the SCB community races. I'm still enjoying the variety and unpredictability of ranked online, although I've definitely gone through runs of bad races where I wasn't! And that's it buddy - if it's our hobby, we should probably try to enjoy it!! 😂

    Dude most of us will have exactly the same experience. Personally i started with Iceracing and it was a very frustrating experience becuase the game is literally playing against u sometimes: tyre model sux, eratic netcode and there are too much wrecking balls and wannabee world champions on this sim.
    This is when I tried Raceroom and I will never comeback! Much more fun and precise driving and foremost an overall better mindset of other drivers.

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому

      Hey buddy - yeah I tend to agree that RaceRoom can't be beaten for exactly the reasons you say. Fingers crossed it continues to grow and develop over the coming months and years!

    Well though out, nicely presented, and helpful information. I'd also like to add that, as a new driver, a learned a lot of what's being said by joining the SCB discord. The experienced drivers are eager to help and the community races are a great opportunity to practice good racecraft.

      Hey Emery, thanks for the feedback buddy! Yeah 100% agree re. the joy of having a mix of driving skill and experience in the SCB community. It's led to so many fantastic interactions between people of different speeds helping each other out and developing as a result!

    So I just started trying to do some Raceroom Ranked raced and I am so happy I watched this video. First of all, I don't worry if I start in the back, so I have ended up having less incident points because I was pushing too hard during qualifying. Second, I find if I just race my race and let make the "pass" as you said in the video, I end up with less incident points and less mistakes on my side. Great video, thanks for these videos. You're making people better racers by sharing your own XP.

    For me the biggest mistake i do everytime is not letting it sink in, for example a guy took me out and after 5-7 laps i am still thinking about it and feeling frustrated! But the one time i forgot about it, i cruised through the field and won the race! I think you know where i wanted to go so i hope you learned

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому +2

      Hey Paul! I totally know what you mean mate - there's been many races where it takes a good few laps before I can concentrate again after an incident. The 40 mins Spa race a few weeks ago was a good example - punted early, hit again by a poor rejoin. Never really got my pace back, and then ended up hitting someone with a clumsy move of my own late on! But you're right, if you can avoid that, it definitely ends up better for your pace!

    Ahh yes, I thought I recognised that WTCR race at the Red Bull Ring! Crazy to think it was only in February, and how we’ve all developed in the six months since then - and of course the creation of SCB! My biggest problem has always been worrying too much about what’s going on behind me - I was always paranoid about getting smashed into from behind, and I think that paranoia comes from starting my sim racing career in iRacing before I discovered RaceRoom. Nearly every race ended with me getting wiped out from a car behind missing braking points or trying an over-ambitious lunge. At the time, I assumed they were all my fault for being in the way, and I spent months trying to get out of everyone’s way, rather than race. Once I overcame that barrier a few months ago, I started improving. And like so many of the other guys mentioned here already, the community racing has helped MASSIVELY - being able to race alongside drivers you know and trust can make a HUGE difference to your confidence and ability to improve 😀

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому

      Hey Chris! Yes it was a fateful race in many ways! I totally hear what you’re saying re iracing - I think if I’d started there I’d be exactly as you describe. And you’re spot on re how mega the SCB community has been for gaining experience of proper racing, rather than bumper cars!

  • @paoloambrosio
    @paoloambrosio 3 роки тому +4

    What changed my mindset was the safety rating in ACC 😅 What made me improve race craft was joining the SCB community and have fair races every week in the finest community. No matter what position I'm fighting for, it's always fun... even when I lose the GT4 championship spinning out at Portimao (completely hypothetical situation, of course 😂).

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому

      Hey Paolo - yeah the safety rating is an interesting one. I do sometimes wonder whether RaceRoom could tie entry into more races around high reputation rather than rating. They use a bit of a mix at the moment, but in iRacing your licence to race in certain series is entirely dependent on upping your safety rating, and I can see some advantages to that. Especially given how awful the lower tiers in iRacing are!! And 100% re. the SCB community races buddy - looking forward to Nurburgring tomorrow!

    Great video. I have built my rep in race room but am not very quick so am usually right near the back of the higher rep servers. There are plenty more people for me to race against in rookies but then I get punted a lot more often, either accidentally or deliberately. Would you recommend avoiding rookie servers once you have built your rep?

    • @Ben_LaBroca
      @Ben_LaBroca  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Kevin - thanks for stopping by buddy. It's really tricky to say to be honest on rookie servers as they vary so much. Some car and track combos do spell more trouble than others. I'm not sure I'd race GT4 at Zandvoort on a rookie server again - that was chaotic! But generally I'd be led by the race combos that you want to run and not worry too much whether it's a rookie server or not. Providing you are cautious if you see things descending into nonsense you can usually avoid the worst of it, and even gain some cheeky positions!

    Really good video im in the same boat I rating so far has been 1650 with a 90 rep in RRE and im pretty much stuck there in mid pack with a 24p grid but i have learned to be happy I just cant understand where some people find those extra 2 to 4 secs sometimes. This week has been really bad As I have been punted soo much and had a big drop. SO i will take a break this week Would be nice to see you on the field what is your screen name in game?
