This was really helpful, thank you! I've been doing some of the things you mentioned intuitively. But what you're explaining basically only applies in the exact moments you experience under/oversteer, correct? What if your car has a constant bias/tendency towards one or the other? Can you compensate these with particular setup tweaks? I'm guessing weight balance might help, but how? And bonus question: How can I iteratively find the best compromise of my car?
I only ever get oversteer at the beginning of the race. At the green light, I spin out and crash … but hey, I don’t have an under/over steer problem anywhere else 🤷♂️
Great Point, what a fascinating occurrence that is I like something I found out watching cubix on UA-cam last month on December, really great point. 💡💡💡💡
For the most part, understeer and oversteer can be resolved by decreasing and increasing angle of rotation ingame and wheelbase. Too much understeer, then decrease wheel rotation. Too much oversteer, then increase wheel rotation.
Both of these effects can be bad, but ask any racer, sim or otherwise, and they prefer oversteer because they can still snap-correct it depending on the car setup, speed and physics of the game. Understeer is worse because there isn't anything a lot drivers can do to correct this if they're driving is up to par. The default setup for most sims and simcades is understeer to prevent beginners from flying off the track into a wall. Sometimes, it take a lot of trial & error to tune out the understeer which is why many prefer to have to deal with oversteer if given the choice. Besides, even Joe hinted at how fun a controlled oversteer can be if done right aka Drifting.
5:34 why do you pretend that you can‘t pronounce Nürburgring 😊 nice video. I‘ll show to my niece that just started sim racing. Had trouble not confusing them when I started
The concept is very easy to grasp, but knowing what is happening to the tires and physics (simulated or real) is why videos like this are good for even veterans to reference. This then most likely leads to learning not only how to avoid, or correct it, but also into more advanced things like tuning (cat setup) that can also help mitigate these effects.
oversteering is when the co-driver is scared, understeering is when i am scared - Walter Röhrl
That's the best explanation I've ever heard!
very clear video for a beginner like me. a video for avoiding over/under steer by changing setup
would be great !
I agree. I have some mechanical knowledge what helps but still be nice to have a full video
Understeer is when I hit the wall with the front of the car.
Oversteer is when I hit the wall with the rear of the car.
Korrekt😂😂
Your sarcasm is unmatched
yessss setup for understeer and understeed would be amazing, I dont really know what’s right when I charge my setup
Thank's for doing this now!🤣 We need it this 3 years ago!
Yes a video with set up tips would be great. With the cat 🐈
Your videos are awesome, good for any driver. You should make another on setups for sure!
Nice video! I vote yes for a setup video please👍🏻

Plus 1 on the setup video. Thanks.
Would be nice to know what to change in setup to decrease oversteer and understeer

Yes please! Need more detailed explanation.
Is there already a setup guide up for this?

Always down to learn more about setups!
That’s a great video.

I definitely need some help with setups!
Understeer is when you try to turn and slide into a wall. Oversteer is when you try to turn and slide into a wall _sideways._

I'm as new as it gets to this, but... I can't believe this needs to be explained. Like, I thought this was all self explanatory.

Maybe they’re running out of ideas for content 👀🤷🏻♂️
I thought there’s 100’s videos about it…
But I get it - that’s their job to make any content.
It's hard to keep adding content about simracing so there will be more obvious things in the future.
@@thomasneit880 yes I understand that part and as I said that’s their job 🤷🏻♂️ but some topics are just overdone imo.
Nothing against Joe :)
thanks to the thumbnail I now know NOT to drive outside track limits! Thanks guys!

The hardest thing in simracing will alwyays be trying to beat all those aliens that are 5 seconds faster than real world records.
Over steer is drifting. Under steer is dying.
Is this Rennsport???
Nope, it's Assetto Corsa ✌
Getting into sim racing is so easy a kid can do it, it’s just a video game. Any “difficulty” is artificial, just start playing
Is it the video, bc your lips looks super red in this video
RIGHT LOL
The saturation on my camera was a bit high 😂 Bc otherwise I look like a pale vampire
