John Deacon is graduated in eletronics and he built the amplifier that was the most characteristical of Queen. It's called Deacy Amp and John actually gave it to Brian.

No, that is not how it worked. All 3 sang the low part, the middle part and the high part. They they placed it all together. Brian May built his guitar with his Dad when he was 16 and has always used Vox AC30 amps with a treble booster, a set up used by Rory Gallagher who told BM how to do that set up. He also used the Deacy amp which was built by John Deacon (the bass player) out of bits found in a skip, or dumpster. He uses it still today.
Thank you guys! Freddie is amazing. Also has a superb piano skill. Love his vocal. Genius❤️👑 I'm an avid admirer of Queen especially Freddie Mercury. Love it!!❤
Without a stuido only the 5.1 mixes give a real impression of the drums. The reverb is because the kit is mainly room miced, roy thomas baker special. The drums and more are overdubbed and bounced so much the oxide layer of the tape wore thin so they are distorted after the mid section, a happy accident that made it all pop. They did not use a click track, drums piano and bass recorded the backing first. Source: baker, may and taylor. Brians guitar was about 8 years old here, built by his father and himself at home. It has a floating vibrato system which you can hear. Far superior to anything commercial at that time.
This was great, thanks! Freddie was a self-taught pianist after a couple of years of lessons as a child. I encourage wandering over to Rick Beato's channel as he discusses BoRhap with Brian May. They also break it down, but there's a really cool documentary where Brian May takes it apart similar to what you all did. Brian explains how they did things, why they did it the way they did, and shares so much about the interactions as they were recording. It's called "Inside the Rhapsody" and is in 4 parts. Thanks so much for doing this!
We will definitely check that out! We don’t really know a lot of the stuff we are discovering it as we go, and then we look at these comments, and learn so much more more! Thanks again
Regarding their talking near the end: - Freddie says “f*ck it” -Roger Taylor is talking about John Deacon cracking up and laughing Nice reaction! I always love hearing the the raw real life stuff 👍
I love how Queen and Freddie in the early days never really worried about things like out-of-tune pianos. In a way it adds some nice rawness to the often-overproduced vocal and guitar layers. The piano Freddie recorded on had lots of inharmonicity in its lower strings which adds that out-of-tuneness. Plus he often layered or modified the piano sound which made it sound more rinky-tink-bar-upright. By the "News of the World" and "Jazz" albums the piano started sounding fuller and more in-tune. Not perfect (listen to Jealousy), but less "wiggly" unison strings.
Thank you ! The countdown is Freddie, the beginning of the song is only Freddie. You have to know that John Deacon doesn't sing… And at the end it's Roger speaking about John… If you want to know more you have to see the documentary Insiide the Rhapsody with comments from Brian, a kind of makinng of… Very interesting !
Brian Mays guitar was built by He and his Dad . Burns of London were the manufacturer of the pickups. ( Burns Tri - Sonics) which are still available today. The amp he was using is a VOX AC 30 . In concert 9 of them as a matter of fact. The tone changes you hear on the takes is due to the fact that you only have a small portion of the tracks. What you have are ( A combined track) where Brian did the same take using different pickup settings to create different sounds. (Remember his guitar has the ability to switch any of the three pickups in and out of phase which each other) So he created ONE TRACK , made up of several different tracks playing the same thing in a few different phase settings. It becomes very apparent toward the end of the (Thrash Section) when the guitar very clearly comes in for a few seconds in an entirely different voice.
Fascinating breakdown that really helps to appreciate the brilliance of what they achieved. Thank you 🙏 other comments point to Brian’s documentary. Def worthwhile watching. Great work guys. Bravo 🙌
This was enjoyable. Just to be clear, the intro multi-tracked vocals are all Freddie. In this section starting at 20:07, you should stop yourself, It's all Freddie on the harmonies/BV's (he wasn't instructing anyone). Also, it was never the four of them. Freddie, Brian, and Roger all sang...John did not. The middle, operatic section are all three of them. During the intro, main verse, and outro, all of the vocals are Freddie. If you want to hear amazing, multi-tracked Freddie harmonies after this one, listen to the STUDIO recordings of You Take My Breath Away and Love of My Life.

John NEVER Sang on any recording! It was ALWAYS only Freddie, Brian, and Roger! And that's just Brian's AC 30 with the tone turned off, and his treble booster with his neck and middle pickup on, out of phase! The chime you heard was Brian using his sixpence across the strings up near the headstock, above the nut! In that end part where you were wondering if there were filters, they were NOT! Ryan just used virtually every switching combination on his guitar to get every possible sound out of it... something like 13 or so overdubs!
