It's impossible not to be aware of The Beatles in 1966. They were everywere; on the radio, in the newspapers, two big movies etc.
Not to know of the existensen of the group you have to live far away on an island.
Why had Yoko Ono moved from New York to Swinging London? Because it was the center of music, fashion, art etc in 1966. And Beatles were the most important part of the movement.
Of course she knew about The Beatles.

In early 1968, something drastic happened to the way John felt towards The Beatles and Paul more specifically. Up until this point, John was the most the most "into The Beatles" Beatle. There are quotes from late '67 where John talks about how only the other Beatles matter, only they understand him, his wife complained that he never wanted to go anywhere without the other Beatles, and he wanted them to buy a small island to live all together (in connected houses!). I suspect it had something to do with Paul choosing to leave India early to spend time with (then fiancé) Jane Asher. And then Paul went out of his way to see Linda on Paul and John's trip to New York together. I think John started to worry that Paul didn't need him and would abandon him eventually. John was very open about his insecurities stemming from not being wanted by his parents. After this, John went full-on with insisting on having Yoko sit next to him during sessions. I think he was hoping to get a rise out of Paul, hoping that Paul would fight for him. When Paul (wanting to avoid direct conflict, more or less) capitulated to the situation, I think John took it as further proof that Paul didn't "really" care about him.
Something that really sticks out to me is an incident that John talked about after the Beatles break up. He recalled the time Paul left the lyrics for "Elanor Rigby" with John AND a group of other people to help him with ideas. It wounded John so much that Paul didn't single him out as his special guy, and the pain of the (relatively benign) event was still on John's mind five years later as an example of how much Paul could hurt him.

I agree with George Harrison. She didn’t break them up, but she was a BIG part of it. Also the story of how their relationship started is complete myth. Tony Bramwells book tells a different story that makes a lot more sense. Also it should be noted, she tried to glob onto the stones before the Beatles. She was in a mental hospital before she invaded England. Of coarse she continues to be litigious against anyone who tries to tell the truth. But someday the truth will come out.

This may have been just rumour, but I do remember a song from John's solo album in which Yoko was singing, if you can call caterwauling singing! Her high-pitched screeches hit bad chords in my ears! It was the only time I listened to that song, and I ended the listening session before the song even got through the first verse and chorus! It was that bad! I remember thinking "How is it that John Lennon cannot hear how terrible Yoko is as a singer?" They say "Love is Blind!" But it appears as though it is deaf as well!

I have to laugh when Paul says that John's "not stupid." There's intelligence but there’s also emotional intelligence. It's possible to be mentally gifted but also lacking in emotional maturity.

    • @maureenanglim2927
      @maureenanglim2927 День тому

Gee, you make it sound like the others were stable and John was not. Let's talk about the emotional maturity of the band as a whole. John was abandoned by both his parents, physically and emotionally, and raised by a woman who probably emotionally abused him until his twenties. Paul lost his mother at an early age and I'm not sure how emotionally available his father was after that. George was essentially the most stable and yet, he was the one who never seemed to be happy and appeared that a jealous nature overrode his other positive qualities, and Richie . . . nearly died as a child and spent most of his childhood in and out of hospitals and never fit in because of it, so he relied on humor to pave his way into relationships, which is a clear sign of disfunction - the "sad" happy clown (see Robin Williams and any other comedian who hid his depression behind the laughter).
Oh, and not to mention they attained worldwide fame by the time the youngest of them was barely twenty years old -- hardly a fully grown adult capable of dealing with that kind of fame.
Should I go on or does this paint a clear picture of the 4 of them and their emotional maturity?

John never received the kind of love & nurturing that a mother provides. John was raised by his aunt, and had no father figure in his life. Consequently John, the ultimate simp, was easy pickings for Yoko. John would have fallen for the first “interesting” woman he met. Yoko pressed all the right buttons - foreign, offbeat, artist (I say that loosely). No woman would have stuck to him like glue like she did, and no man would have allowed that, unless there was a psychological predisposition based on the intense need to feel “fulfilled” by another. John did cheat on Yoko and in my estimation John & Yoko would have remained married had John not been murdered, and would have had a marriage of convenience.

Really? Who cares? This topic has all been laid out in interviews all over UA-cam at this point. 1. Per Paul, John broke up the Beatles because he "found his love (muse)" in a strong woman (Yoko). and announced he was leaving the group. 2. Lennon brought Yoko into the rehearsals without asking his band mates first. 3. Lennon reportedly had "run ins" with several band members over many issues. 4. The Four Boys from Liverpool were growing up, had their own ideas about what the future should hold, partners/wives/children - and the financial issues at Apple Records - not to mention their new management. 5. The End of an Era: It was also the end of the 60s and the beginning of a new era. Perhaps, the group got it right and disbanded at the right time. We will never know. What we do know is the George Harrison's and John Lennon's music lives on after their passing, and so will Paul's and Ringo's. Anyone who was young at that time remembers the era they ushered in, and how they evolved throughout the decade. They cast a light on the industry that remains today, and we should thank them for it.

Exactly, he's responsible for pushing her into the spotlight. When John told her "hey Yoko, why don't you come down with me to the studio and sit in on the recording" she could have easily responded "hmmm, thanks for the invite but I really don't think that's a great idea." Most people would've said or thought something like that yet she didn't.

She didn't end The Beatles in any way. She was just something added to the already imploding band. She's a scapegoat. She's also an american inteligence asset. Her job was to keep tabs on subversive John Lennon. But that's another conversation all together

SHE MAY HAVE AN OPINION, BUT THAT'S AS FAR THAT GOES! YOKO MADE A HUGE BRAIN WASH, TO THE BAND MEMBERS, TO THE FANS AND TO THE MUSICAL OFFICIALS?!!! WHY DIDN'T CERTAIN PEOPLE DO, THE SAME THTING, AGAINST HER? OR TELL HER, SHUT UP DARLING, STAY OUT OF THE MUSIC BUSINESS? OR GET ABCK, WHERE YOU CAME FROM???!!

I just don't get all this never ending hatred. I know part of it is misogyny. Part of it is xenophobia. Why all these fanboys can't accept that the Beatles broke up because they just didn't get along at the time. It's them not her. They wanted to do different stuff. All of them. Even Ringo had a solo career. It's just a huge waste of negative energy to keep pumping this garbage out.

Nonsense. She was a wedge between John and the others. Paul said he never had a private conversation with John after she arrived. She was the reason Allen Klein got involved and George felt pushed aside by her. The Beatles themselves said she was a huge problem. Even later, she had calls rerouted to the office to keep friends away from John. The only reason they speak more kindly of her now is she continues to be a thorn in their sides and they can’t get anything done without her cooperation.
