Huge fan of the Beatles here. Small story: When my youngest son was 4, he came up to me one day and asked me if love was a game. It took me awhile to figure out why he had asked this question but it turned out that he had been listening carefully to the lyrics of Yesterday, which I used to sing to him before bedtime. He's now 15 and still listening to the Beatles.
Love used to be a really easy game to play. But yeah, my girls also enjoy the Beatles. Perhaps obviously, "Yellow Submarine" was a big gateway song. Thanks for sharing that. :) What's your favorite Beatles song out of curiosity?

April 19, 2021 I saw this video while stuck on a train running 65 minutes late. I knew absolutely nothing about The Beatles and might have heard just about 4 songs up to that moment. But in that moment, everything was a good distraction. "Beatles it is then" I thought to myself. After this video was over I went and listened to a Paul McCartney GQ interview. Then another Paul McCartney interview. Then I logged on Spotify and listened to the White Album. The day after it was Abbey Road. After that it was Revolver. A few months go by, my entire identity is based on The Beatles, my savings went to Beatles records, my room is decked out with Beatles posters and records and I've ran out of Beatles media to consume. Now I'm back to the video that singlehandedly made my brain rot over The Beatles. Thank you UA-cam user The Beat Goes On.
Pretty sad when someone bases their whole identity around something like that. I mean you are more than just some bands music. How old are you? It’s usually kids and teenagers that do that, trying to find themselves.
@gumshoesoul And then there was a band from Illinois that named themselves The Shoes in tribute. The Ramones were also sort-of named from a Paul McCartney jest. He used to check into hotels under the name Paul Ramone.
The movie had poor reviews when it was first released in Britain I think mainly because this colourful piece of experimental psychedelic movie-making was shown on TV at Christmas in B & W - yes that's a Magical Mystery Tour with NO COLOUR - and marketed as prime time family entertainment. All the 'square' Mums and Dads and Aunties and Grandparents had no idea what to make of it!
@@papercup2517, the film was crap, they rushed into it to distract themselves from the trauma of Brian Epstein's death. The soundtrack did receive praise, though.
@@ryanblob3105 It was mainly Paul's project, IIUC...of course they were all reeling from the sudden, tragic loss of their manager and mentor. But, despite the circumstances in which it was made, I found the movie very enjoyable when I finally got to watch it, in colour, all the way through. Definitely more interesting and original than the Help movie, and IMO a more worthy successor to A Hard Day's Night. But, if you didn't like it, that's OK too!
They were together as a band for a decade. That’s a pretty long time,I think if Lennon wasn’t killed they probably would’ve gotten back together in the mid 80’s or early 90’s at least for a reunion tour.
Not sure if I've got this quote word for word, but I think the gist of it is right: "The Beatles are for us, the Bible. They opened the doors and we all walked through. OK, as technology progressed we were able to take some things further, but it was the Beatles that made it all possible." - Brian May, lead guitarist, songwriter, back-up and sometimes lead vocalist of Queen, in several interviews over the years
@@kastorpantalondescocido9272 Yes, Queen is forever the best! Rest in peace Freddie 😭 But then again The Beatles are also good and everyone loves them.
You have to wonder how the 1970’s Beatles would have sounded if there were no personality conflicts and the band stayed intact, with Paul, John, and George equal songwriting partners.
Being four years old when I first saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan - my sister insisted we watch it that night - I knew even then I was watching something special. I became a musician because of that day, even playing a violin-shaped bass. The first songs I learned were Beatle songs. I feel privileged to have breathed the same air as all four of them, and watch their career as I grew up. Few things were more exciting than a new Beatles album. That was a great time to be a kid growing up
You and I are both the same, in a lot of ways . Your statement here reads the same as my life . Except I watched The Ed Sullivan show that night with my two older brothers .
If I could just personally say thank you to Paul and Ringo in person look them in the eye and shake both their hands for changing literally everything, I would be astounded and honored.
Mr. Beat! I did not know that this was YOU! Don't worry you are STILL my favorite channel and you covered my favorite band of all-time in your typical excellent manner! Thanx a zillion!
I was glued to my phone watching your documentary on the group that sums up my teenage years with their extraordinary music. Concise, informative, clean graphics.
Wait, they released a Beatles album on the day that JFK got assassinated?! wow. R.I.P JFK and R.I.P John Lennon and George Harrison. All of you guys were legends.
John & Paul made each other better....they found the missing component in each other & it showed in the lack of that component existing in their solo work. They also made George level up & brought the best out of Ringo's more creative drumming. If they wouldve just went on hiatus & came back together or just continued to evolve by adding variables like maybe getting Brian Wilson to quit the Beach Boys to join them....we'd have so much more to smile & talk about.
i have relatives who used to play with them! my great uncle was in a band called ian and the zodiacs which was normally a support act for the beatles, but they were also friends backstage etc. the beatles also practiced in my other relatives living room before they blew up
Funny story back in the 60’s when my grandfather was a teenager I think he said he was 17, he was with a friend accompanying him to the airport, they noticed tons of teenage girls holding up signs for something, they didnt really notice what they were though. They got there super early and to kill time they wandered around the airport. They somehow got into the underground area of it and actually saw all 4 of the Beatles hanging out and talking to each other. They were laughing at a joke one of them told. When they saw my grandfather and his friend they got sort of deer in the headlights looks on their faces, turns out those signs were for them and they were hiding out from their fans. I think he said Paul McCartney and another one I think it was ringo said hi to them and they said hi back and kept on walking. That’s his little Beatles story he told me once
Great video mate, I was a young lad in 62 and remember my eldest sister screaming at this group called Beatles which were on the TV. In 63 my sisters told my dad they were staying at their friends house for the night when actually they were at Empire Pool (Wembley Arena) London to see the live. The concert was recorded by the BBC and one shot showed my sisters screaming their heads off, my dad was non too pleased. I brought St Peppers album and their White album and remember their split up very well as I’ve 3 sisters and 3 brothers all 3 sisters were crying even my eldest sister who was married and pregnant then was crying. She no longer with us but I’ll never forget her utter devotion to the Beatles, wonderful memories miss you big sis. 🥲🥲🥲🥲
Imagine talking about The White Album while not acknowledging "Helter Skelter" and it's Impact on Hard Rock, Heavy/Doom Metal and Grunge as well as Rock as a whole >:3
She’s so heavy also furthered this, the white noise at the end would have sounded alien at the time. I often can’t comprehend hearing it without the 60 years of popular music that came afterwards.
She was born in February '33, so in her early thirties in '66. That could just about pass as an early career artist, I think. I didn't think the intention was to imply she was younger than John, although I can see it could be construed as that.
John must have had hundreds of women to choose from - he was hot after all - and so he chooses an old bitch who looked like the monster from The Ring! Ugh! 😱
I almost cry when think how blessed I am to live in time when the Beatles happened. I am addicted to listen their isolated parts of instruments , youtube is great place where I can exoerience their music
What’s also crazy is that Sergeant pepper’s, Abbey road and revolver actually topped the Billboard modern rock charts more than once in the 2010s, even after almost 60 years after they were originally released that is insane!
I'am one of the beatles billion fans in the world, and I want to say thanks for the video,(the beat goes on) I was cry when I see this video, god bless all die hard Beatle fans,we will live forever like the music of the beatles.god bless,
The Beatles have done SO DAMN MUCH for music as a whole that without a video like this it's impossible for me to recall every single new thing they invented and did for their time
"We can work it out" was not on Rubber Soul. It was released on a double A sided single with Day Tripper as the other A side. The single was released the same day as the album
So it only took them about 2-3 songs before they made a #1 Album in a day? Thats actually crazy. They are so good that their third release ever became a hit
“Abbey Road” was their last recorded album. “Let It Be” was their last released album. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1988. ---------------------- Solo Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductions: John Lennon was posthumously inducted in 1994. Paul McCartney was inducted in 1999. George Harrison was posthumously inducted in 2004. Ringo Starr was inducted in 2015.
I'm always in awe that The Beatles were around as a band a mere 12 years before I was born. Like 2010 to now. But I'm mad upset I didn't get to be a contemporary with Lennon.
This was a definite refresher for me, as far as the story of The Beatles. I've always loved Them, but for the longest time I hadn't listened to their music. And I'd always been curious/always wanted to know the Genesis of the making of their seminal albums such as Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, The White Album etc.
The fifth Beatle was Billy Preston! You can see him playing the keyboard in their last live performance in London on the roof of the Apple studio. Yes the Beatles, that I listened to in the 70's as a kid at home, are still my favourite band.
I remember watching The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show when they first"crossed the pond"!! And my favorite Beatle has always been George Harrison. Favorite song: While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
My favorite band ever. Thanks for the video, Mr. Beatles...I mean Mr. Beat! Fifth Beatle? I'd have to say George Martin. Which band next? How about The Beach Boys? A very interesting history.
Nobody can touches the fabulous Beatles...Nobody... For me, the second best « band » is a duo with a pure genius named Paul Simon... if you put all the extraordinary songs that Paul Simon has written...He must be considered...just Sound of silence or The boxer, or Scarborough fair, or Bridge over trouble water, or 50 ways to live your lover and many many others... Very underrated this guy... Hu....who else?, maybe Pink Floyd because they wrote so fantastic songs and they were different with a floating mervellous sound, so Pink Floyd... I love Eagles also...For the rest, all England band...Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Procol Harum... But, again, the Beatles are alone in the category of best band ever...
You got it! George Martin, producer and a well-schooled musician to boot. He applied his music theories in arranging the raw song materials of the fab four that galvanized the Beatles' music. Indeed, "Sgt Peppers Lonely Heart's Club Band" was credited to George Martin's great contribution to the said album. Unarguably, the former deserves to be named the Fifth Beatles.
Great job!!!!! You crammed almost everything in less than half an hour! My favorite Beatle was Lennon/McCartney! Without both there would have been no Beatles, no Greatest Band that ever walked on Earth! For me, it was all about the music. I was so lucky to grow up in that era!
I was today years old when I actually learned about who the Beatles are. Alway heard about them but never was played through my childhood or even culture. But it is very clear why all races and all walks of life loved them. Add me to the millions of fans!
Man, you 're doing a great job! I love all your videos and you really helped me learn more facts about my favourite artists! I cant wait for the next. Keep going!❤️
Brilliant, I’d been waiting for another one of your videos for some time and you did not disappoint! Honestly I’d be happy to hear you talk about the history of filing paperwork but the quality and the editing was top notch! 👍
would loved to have seen a timeline on the bottom of the video. Something i've never been able to truly grasp is the length of time they were together because of how much music they churned out!
I'm 60 years old now. I'm Brazilian. I'm suspected to talk about The Beatles. Beatles is the biggest band I've ever known in the world. I simply love them.❤
I've watched, listened, or read, hundreds of Beatles story but still got %60 of new information here. I tought like others I would only stick for 4mins but I ended up watching till the end. Nicely done 👌.
CORRECTIONS: We Can Work It Out is not on Rubber Soul. Paperback Writer is not on Revolver. Yellow Submarine Songtrack was released in 1999 for a rerelease of the film. The actual studio album released in 1969 is simply Yellow Submarine. Beyond that, this is a fantastic video. Great job!
Sadly I was born in 1972, almost three years after The Beatles broke up. In 1980, 8yo me listened in the radio the announcement of Lennon's death. I wasn't a fan back then, but even so I knew that those were very bad news. I have all of their original songs in my smartphone's memory ever since my phones had enough storage to hold them all. When I change phones, their songs jump to the next.
Just like most, they were filled with excitement, optimism joys of huge success, in the early days of the 60s, by the mid 60s, they had done it all, movies, cartoons, millions of followers, but as you get older you get cynical, you see all the crap that life has to offer? divorce, drugs, bad health, relationships, so obviously they wrote how they were feeling, and by the late 60s, they weren’t the same happy people that they were in the beginning.
I'm not quite seeing "Here Comes the Sun," "Because," "Back in the USSR," "Dear Prudence," "Hey Jude," "Old Brown Shoe," "Ballad of John and Yoko," "Lady Madonna," and "Octopus's Garden" as having much to do with death and depression, but you are certainly entitled to your odd opinion.
it's called evolution, growth, maturity. It's not the same writing songs when you're 16 than later, when the world is going through a very stupid, unfair war, plus many other things they became aware of, and the things going on in their lives.... It happens to any human being...
I've seen alot of documentaries about The Beatles and your short but sweet video was very well put together. Thank you sir, sirs or madams for this post. I enjoyed it very much.
I found the Beatles by accident about 4 years ago. Back then, I used to listen to rap, especially Drake. One Sunday, I was cleaning my house with my brothers and listening to one of Drake's songs "Headlines." My little brother wanted me to pick him up, so I did. But as I bent down, he accidentally stepped on my headphones and my music stopped. I went to my mother to ask her for help. But before I gave her my kindle, I remembered that the version of "Headlines" I was listening to was explicit, so I had to come up with a way to make it seem like I wasn't listening to that version. I remembered that Rae Srummrd had recorded a song called "Black Beatles", which I found out was a reference to the band themselves. Quickly, I searched up The Beatles and played the first song I found; "Come Together" from their last album Abbey Road. Though my mother couldn't fix my headphones, I soon decided to listen to "Come Together " for myself, and after that, I fell in love with the Beatles. No longer do I listen to rap music, as the Beatles have literally changed my life for the better. I can sing along with almost all of their songs now! Thank goodness my headphones weren't working that day.
you know there's a lot of really great hip-hop out there that's on par with the beatles de la soul, kendrick lamar, digable planets, MF DOOM, beastie boys, death grips, slick rick, grandmaster flash, wu-tang clan (and everybody's solo projects), etc. i haven't breached the tip of the iceberg here.
@@Malkmusianful oh ofc, I actually really like listening to Kendrick and MF DOOM (he's probably my favorite rapper). I listen to hip hop a lot more now.
Great video. So much info covered here. One thing I often noticed, though, was you often point out which songs came from which albums. Most of their early hit singles (such as She loves you, From me to you, I want to hold your hand, We can work it out, Paperback Writer, etc.) were not on any album at all, but released simply as singles.
I had The Beatles Anthology on DVD, and absolutely loved it. I thinks it’s the best docu-series of the band. I can’t understand why it’s not available for streaming. Someone needs to sign off on it so more people can see this amazing documentary of this amazing band.
Corrections.: 05:40 From Me to You and She Loves You are not on Please Please Me 12:48 We Can Work It Out is not on Rubber Soul. It was the B side of Day Tripper 14:33 Paperback Writer is not on Revolver. It is the A side single with Rain on the B side
And Paperback Writer was the first music video, not one of the firsts. Didn't mention having the top 5 spots on Billboard charts. And the Instrumental version of And I Love Her isn't on the UK version of A Hard Day's Night. Please Please Me (single) hit #2, not #1.
Enjoyed the video. Some of that stuff I already knew as the Beatles were my favorite band and their music and life deeply touched my own. I was a lead singer in a small town band and we playee different High Schools in the area, so I learned a bit about band life and personality conflicts and touring. It was short lived, but I loved it. I was most amazed by the amount we each made for just one nights performance as I had a store cashiers salary before hand. But gossip about us and conflicts within the group broke us up. Never was in a band again, but I did tour with a University Choir across country. Loved that. But, then I got married and well, Life just goes on, ya know. Still love the Beatles after all these years as I kind of grew up with them. Thanks for sharing this.
Watching this video with my GenZ daughter, she asks, "how did John die?" and I started from the moment I learned about it, "I was walking at my alma mater campus when I heard the news and I remember I almost fainted..." then I went back in time, and choked on my tears...had to wait for a few seconds to be able to continue with the story 🥺 I became a fan in 1975 when I found a guitar tutorial magazine with lots of Beatles songs lyrics. I didn't learn to play the guitar but I learned almost all the Beatles songs! ☺ and felt super-motivated to continue learning English!!!
I could never just listen to the Beatles without thinking about my grandparents. My grandfather would shamelessly play a dvd of all their greatest hit every afternoon and that was the reason I got into them when I was only 10 years old. They're both gone now so I could never listen to the songs without tearing up.

Magical mystery tour is a masterpiece
@Wayne Pitty yes...Every studio album that THEY made is a brilliant masterpiece...
@@papercup2517, I'll have to watch it again, perhaps it's not as bad as I remember.

They were together as a band for a decade. That’s a pretty long time,I think if Lennon wasn’t killed they probably would’ve gotten back together in the mid 80’s or early 90’s at least for a reunion tour.

You have to wonder how the 1970’s Beatles would have sounded if there were no personality conflicts and the band stayed intact, with Paul, John, and George equal songwriting partners.
If Brian Epstein never died at the time he did, I don't think the beatles would have broken up

Being four years old when I first saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan - my sister insisted we watch it that night - I knew even then I was watching something special. 🥲🥲🥲🥲

I wasn't a fan back then, but even so I knew that those were very bad news. I have all of their original songs in my smartphone's memory ever since my phones had enough storage to hold them all. When I change phones, their songs jump to the next.
Their song went like this.
Early sixties: She loves you yeah yeah yeah
Late sixties: Songs about death and depression
