Abandoned Catholic School in Detroit with tons of stuff left behind

- This abandoned Catholic school in Detoit was quite a find. The church that owns it is active and only the school is abandoned. The school was built in 1922 to help with the rise of religious people moving to the area. The school was built for students from grades K-12, with money from the church as well as private donors. In the 1950’s the school was in its prime and had almost 2,000 students.
In 1995, the graduating class had dropped to only a few hundred students. This left the school with no other choice but to close permanently. Protests from the staff, parents, students, and even some residents of the local community were all ignored.
The crazy part is that a lot of the school stuff was left behind after it's closing. I found a full library, lots of desks, gym equipment, and all the trophies.

Really enjoyed this one. Gives off a weird feeling knowing that place used to be busy everyday with people teaching and learning. Now its almost completely silent
Was it ever haunted though?
I think I saw 2004 on one of the trophies. Can you start looking for dates on things when you explore? It can kind of give us a time stamp of when it was last inhabited or active. I love your videos btw. It’s so sad to see all of those school supplies and items go to waste. It could have easily been donated to other underfunded schools.
I agree what's with all the waste.?!
Things went to crap around 2008.
Imagine finding this video and seeing your picture still hanging up
I loved this! I love the way teachers used to decorate the bulletin boards and borders above the chalkboard. It’s a cozy library. This looks like my grade school used to look and made learning so much fun. Thank you, my midwestern friend
St. Mary's of Redford on Grand River Ave in Detroit
Also it wasnt closed in 1995 I graduated in 2004
During the time that the school was built as well as many of the other Detroit public schools and parochial schools in Detroit, not only was this the gymnasium but it was also used as the launch room for all of these schools. The kitchen was to partake and serving meals to the kids during the school days. That's why it is right off of the gymnasium.
Surprisingly, in better shape than I thought it would be. Power still on. I wonder if camera was working?
Any power left on was for heating, to keep pipes from freezing.
I feel bad this only has 6k likes the quality was really good and everything keep up the good work 😊
Cool tour
Loved the library ❤️
Hey! Know it’s kind of a weird question, but I live in the Detroit area and wanted to know the name of the school. Because a friend of mine loves to explore abandoned buildings. Im sure he’d love to explore it!
Dude I love your vedio.
This would be awesome to explore and my city as well! What school was this?
so was the church attached to the school or was it an outdoor service?
Detroit was so nicely at one point and one of the biggest cities in the US!! After the riots it started to change but by the late 80's it was becoming one of the worst!! I grew up in Detroit and it's sad seeing my old neighborhood and my school is abandoned!! My house is the only one still standing on are side of the street. Most things have been torn down and a few businesses have opened in the area but it's not a part of Detroit that people are moving back to.
Come to Rochester new York and I explore with you
Guess this school isn’t haunted.
I mean, also like the haunted activity’s.
How does an abandoned building still have power, I’m pretty sure they cut the power off after it’s been abandoned
Hmmm.. thought I posted a comment! When was this school abandoned? 1995?! Did you find any PCs, laptops, or Chromebooks? Wait...1995... 😆🤣
Yeah no laptops. I did find a computer tho! Hidden in the maintenance room
@@decayingmidwest probably too old! Thank you 🤓

Im from Detroit, cant you say what school this is? Or at least what street it is on? East side or west side?
Why doesn't good Catholics raise funds to buy it and restore it.
I just moved to the farthest suburb from Detroit (same county) from Wi. The school system here is awful 😢. The people are great but the government is not
