I have been in the funeral service industry for several years. This man, and his firm abused these remains in the most disgusting way. He violated the sacred trust that is given to any funeral home tasked with caring for the deceased. He abused his community in ways that is unforgivable. Why it took so damn long to shut him down is beyond me. It became clear to me that he had racked up plenty of violations before the state revoked his license in 2018. My heart goes out to each one of the families affected by this selfish man. It’s tough enough to find enough strength to get through burying a loved one. Imagine how much strength it takes to get through knowing your loved one was discarded like trash. I truly can’t wrap my head around how he can justify keeping babies, in his funeral home ceiling without feeling any sort of shame. I hope he receives a long prison sentence. Again my heart goes out to every one of those victims
They need an inspection group like they have for hospitals, JACO randomly show up and go through. At any time! And not from the area. So there's no bias.
Whether he was telling the truth or not, I don't know; he claimed that he was keeping the bodies until the family could pay for their burial. There was even a woman on there stating that she couldn't pay. I'm not defending him; I'm asking in order to learn. What does a mortician do in a situation where the family can't afford a funeral?
Yes but they went years without wondering what happened to the body and then all of a sudden the people are appalled and surprised that their families remains weren't cared for... even if you couldn't pay one should at least make a payment plan for the sake of the remains, it's just another example of people wanting everyone to give them everything even though they give nothing themselves and the usual of a guy only caring about money. The families are responsible too.
@@brycecharles3856 I understand that the families are responsible too but just because someone can't pay to have a funeral for their baby doesn't mean that baby should be mummified in a ceiling. Lots of cemeteries have pauper fields filled with graves of those who don't have anywhere else to go or family to care about them.
@@redfoxcaly I agree which is why I wonder why the families didn't do this in the first place. They knew they didn't have the money and yet went there for services. The hospital in a lot of cases helps with dealing with the loss of an infant. Yes the funeral director is a scumbag, yes he could of just done the right thing and cremated the infants as well as adults and just put them on the shelf or he himself could of gone to the state and told them of his dilemma but my point is that these people abandoned their loves ones for years and never tried to finalize anything and yet are so devastated and shocked they didn't receive free services.
@@brycecharles3856 I don't care what it took I would never be able to wonder where my deceased baby was. I would do literally anything to get the money I needed. I know there are a lot of people who believe because they have nothing then something is owed to them.
In some places the city or some organizations provide the funds for the burial of people that don’t have family or the family can’t pay. I am sure it’s different everywhere.
This makes my blood boil!!! My father was a mortician and funeral director. I grew up in and around funeral homes. I was taught to give the up most respect to the deceased and their families. This is beyond disgraceful and disrespectful! My heart goes out to any and all who had to deal with this funeral home!
Look up the Tri-State crematory incident from 2002. Guy was "storing" (i.e., dumping) bodies on his property instead of creating them, and pocketing the trivial amount of money he was saving in natural gas costs. There were several hundred bodies found on his property.
Nobody should ever get into the funeral business unless they have the ABSOLUTE HIGHEST respect for the dead. This is heartbreaking and disgusting that humans could treat other humans, alive and dead like this..💔
I believe they also need an extreme mental evaluation before entering a business such as this. The man running the funeral home obviously were not right in the head to allow these things to happen.
@@abandonedcentral Those involved should be given 11 life sentences plus 500 years just to really ensure they really pay. The building should be destroyed and the property should be permanently left empty. Such a disgrace.
The new owners of this funeral home making it into a well needed community center will bring life and laughter into its walls and to the neighborhood, thanks for your story, I just found your channel!
I know the grief of losing a newborn baby. Those parents had to go through it twice because of that monster who owned the funeral home. I can't wrap my mind around it. It's a betrayal like no other.
Thank god I know my son was buried when he died! He was in the coffin that was buried in the grave in the ground and is still there since 1976!! My son died from SIDS at 3.5 months old. I am the one who found my son dead the next morning. He had died during the night in his sleep.
@@mazieg7072 I'm so sorry. I lived in a very small town & my daughter is buried in a small cemetery in another even smaller town. Hard to get away with doing the things these people did in a small community like ours. My daughter was 9 days old. I was a hospice on call nurse working nights and weekends. I was at the bedside for many deaths, and always maintained my patients dignity, I never left their bedside until the funeral home arrived, and I walked out with my patient with my hand on the gurney until they were placed in the hearse. If at ANY time I felt my patient was not being treated right in death, I instantly spoke up, took charge of the situation, and even called to report the removal service or the funeral homes own team to the funeral home owner. I am outraged at what happened here and am hoping that this will tighten regulations on the buisness in general. Horrifying.
You're a wonderful lady. It takes a special person to do what you do. Thank you for everything you do. I was a caretaker for my dear late mother in law until she passed away in the hospital. It's a hard job. It takes so much out of you. I couldn't stand to be there when they took her off of life support. I had tried so hard to keep her alive that I couldn't bear to see her die. I miss her so much every day.
As a member of the profession, I am horrified at hearing this report. I consider it a privilege to be entrusted, by the families, with the care of their loved ones, and consequently treat every deceased person as though they were my own. The criminal activity in this video defies belief; I can only begin to imagine what the families must have gone through, and I pray for them all on behalf of the profession. I only hope that the disgusting individuals responsible for these most insidious crimes got the appropriate treatment by the Courts, though sadly, nothing will ever erase the memories for the families. God bless them.
My dearly departed uncle's funeral was at Cantrell some years ago and to know that while we were there, there were remains of souls handled in such a disgusting manner! This is insane
My former mother in law's services were held by Cantrell. I was mortified when I heard this story. To think that there were bodies hidden throughout the funeral home is so disturbing and disrespectful, all the while carrying on like it's everyday business. 💔
I'm a retired Funeral Director I embalmed and got the corps ready for burial. This is a black mark on many funeral homes, when we graduate, we take an oath, I find this disgusting and very horrific. I hope they lose everything and the sale of the funeral home given to those families of those abandoned in the funeral home. This really pisses me off, especially the babies that they found, most funeral homes bury babies for free
My mother had a stillborn baby girl in 1963. I don't know if my parents had to pay for anything; Dad was a veteran and probably got the free burial at the military cemetery. They didn't have a funeral.
@@SamuelBlack84 Maybe because of the way they were stored in containers wrapped up, the whole place probably smelled like death, that odor permeates everything.
You did a great job reporting the facts & images to us. I attended a viewing there of a coworker who was shot and killed in a car jacking in 2018. During the early afternoon of her viewing, no one from the funeral staff was there as I was trying to find an employee to let them know that the deceased had blood dripping from her ears and a cotton ball was sticking out of her nose. I was horrified and tried my best to clean it up before her family or children arrived, and when an employee finally showed up, he casually said “I went to grab some food” and he wasn’t in any hurry to offer an apology or explanation for the urgent situation. As her coworkers, we paid for the funeral in full and advance and now I assume the funeral home probably cashed the check before they completed the job and maybe they figured “who cares”. I didn’t want to offend or upset the small family (one out of town sister, 2 young children, boyfriend) so I cleaned her up, kept it to myself waiting for others to arrive. I’ll never forget the way I felt sitting there alone and feeling shocked and sorrowful for the families of Detroit who were being taken advantage of at the most vulnerable and painful times in their lives. Sadly it was confirmed in this video that this was a “business as usual” for these criminals and they kept on doing their thing since they were getting away with it even after being reported. So many sad sides to this story. May those families find peace and be helped by the state to properly receive the remains of their loved ones. 🙏🏼❤
I would have been scared to death I can't imagine how you felt makes my blood boil thank you for your big heart and your kindness for taking care of someone's loved one so they didn't have to do that God bless you
I have come across this a year later, I had to let you know that you did something beautiful for you’re friend, you are a good kind compassionate woman.
I'm so sorry that you had to see your coworker/friend like that! It's completely inexcusable and disgusting behavior on their part. You shouldn't have had to clean her up. She should have been clean, embalmed, and ready for her viewing. I'm so sorry. These people deserved so much better than this, and the families and friends deserve peace and comfort.
I’ve read on here that some have said most funeral homes not charging for babies.. here in Oklahoma we haven’t heard of that. we paid $1.000 for are 17 day old grandson
My grandparents/uncle/mother/godmother & aunt were ALL serviced by Cantrel Funeral Home from 1984-2012. Cantrel Sr was still alive & at that facility everyday!!! When the son took over it was downhill from there. Cantrel's was there for the community & helped people during a time when decisions are hard & emotions run high with no money. Sicking what came to be & all for money. Sr came from the south when factory jobs were a plenty & he'd tell his stories to comfort people, he worked hard to build his service for those around him & had such a caring/calming spirit.
Thank you so much can't your singer is my great uncle he died back in 2012 at the age of 96 his son took over the business and put the family that was working there out and hired his own people I was trained by my uncle Raymond senior when I was 11 years old well how to run a funeral home and everything and bombing bodies and we had an account for families that can pay we will put $20,000 in the account for cremation and burial we did help the community and then when my cousin took over the funeral home it went downhill he fired a lot of the family that was working there so it was a family member another cousin that told what was going on when he fired him and no my Uncle Raymond Sr here did not do any of this
This happened in a town near me as well.. Brent Marsh, a crematory. He would keep hundreds of bodies on his property after his machinery stopped working. Sad…. Really sad for all those families who had rocks and dirt instead of ashes of those they thought were their loved ones remains with no proper burial. Some of the bodies have never been found. 😳 so disturbing.
Things like this is exactly why, I tell my son and his wife, to stand and witness whom ever it is cremating me, so they can be absolutely sure, it’s me they’re getting back. I told them, I know it will be hard to watch, but at least, they’ll know.
It is customary in my world to see the body in the casket from first day of viewing until it is closed just before leaving to the cemetery. Family was watches them load In the hearse, follow To gravesite, unload, lower into grave, put the vault lid on and we sit there until the last shovel of dirt is put on. Then often go back for days afterward to see if everything looks the same. Had an incident years ago in our town where Many bodies were put in the ground with no casket at all. Even though the families had paid for caskets and the vault. Not only were their no caskets, if anything buried with them was of value, that was taken too.
As the mother to a stillborn daughter from another state this infuriates me for those families that were deceived by that funeral home and this saddens me as well that they werent properly laid to rest at the time. My funeral home that performed her services also did it for free as the gentleman who handled everything for us had lost a child as well so he knew our loss.
As a former funeral director this makes me sick!! But nothing in Detroit surprises me considering the people who run this city and too many of the people who live there. Don't get pissed...it's just true!
It makes you question your own funeral homes in your home town about what really goes on. It makes you wanna do a walk through. unbelievable. may all these people get peace of mind now n may they r.i.p.
I decided already that i’ll be donating my body to science which is free for my family and afterwards they cremate your body for your family to hold on to or bury. I have a very rare genetic condition so I made this decision when I was pretty young because not a lot is known about it and nobody really researches it much so I wanted someone to use my struggles in life to make things easier for people born with the same condition in the future. As long as the military doesn’t use me to “see the effects of a bomb on a human body” (They legitimacy said this as their reasoning once 🤨) I’m okay with most research. You have to register but not everywhere will allow you to choose what your body is used for, but obviously that’s important to me so i haven’t gotten to register yet.
My mom passed away a few years ago and what I seen haunted me for years. Her arms were bruised really bad. She had bruising around her neck like somebody choked her. My mom passed away in a nursing home the first nurse checked her said that she could hear a a fantt pulse a second nurse came in and said no. Then she was removed and taken to the funeral home. For years I thought what if there was a Saint Paul's and she came to and they choked her. In a funeral home when they are caring for our loved ones they should care for them as if it was their loved one that they were preparing. I could not imagine what these families are going through that still had loved ones in the building and the bodies were found.
11 babies, so 11 parents thought their baby was buried or cremated and come to find out they're in a ceiling. I don't even understand how that could even happen. SMMFH
There is a hand around the corner when she is going down the stairs at 7:01. It disappears very quickly. Maybe part of the crew....maybe something creepy!?
Most funeral homes don't charge for baby funerals (0-5 yrs old) as long as you use the generic coffin offered, you have to pay if you want extras. My granddaughters funeral didn't cost anything, I just had to pay for opening & closing of the ground and the headstone. My local funeral home did a very good job with my granddaughter! Can't imagine what these families are goin through,so sad!
Sorry about your granddaughter :( this story is so gross and mostly sad! It’s chilling how when those guys were checking out the building there was just babys corpses above…

I don't know if I want to know, but the toilets in that one room. Are they there to flush fluids/stuff down the drain? That's the only thing I could think they'd be used for. If they are, does it go in a private septic tank or a municipal sewer? I find the thought of it going into either very disgusting but the public sewer seems more gross. Someone with more knowledge please enlighten me. That set up is so weird with the bars and the multiple toilets in a row. This place is unbelievable.
This must be one of the most upsetting story's I've ever heard in years, and the poor lady that doesn't know where her sister's remains are, you could feel her pain, as for finding the 11 baby's remains I have tears in my eyes typing this, just sad, I can't understand what the families are going through, I really hope the old owner spends time in prison but even that seems to good for him, just a load of sadness xx 😢😢
The families never bothered to witness the burial of there kids they dumped them at the funeral home and never thought to follow up . All the parents fault I would have given them the bodies back after refusal to pay
Can somebody tell me why their pipes surrounding those toilets and that other sink type thing? Why would they put pipes around the toilets? I can’t understand that
I'm glad that the new owners are doing something positive with the building and property, Lord knows that Detroit does need a place where the youth can go to hang out and stay out of trouble and the gangs that plague that area.
I generally wouldn't know how I'd feel if me and my husband were told that our baby had been found dumped in a loft and to be told 10 years later that actually your baby wasn't cremated. I think we would be more than devastated.
I'm speechless, lost of words, and just spiritually damaged, All I want to say is *Condolences To The Families* of all theses deceased, this is very mind crushing & I hope everyone of them *Make The Rest Of His Life A Living Nightmare*
I remember this I live in Detroit...horrible situations with these people & babies family's were devastated the community was at awe of what was happening inside this funeral home..East Detroit is just like the rest of the city...be careful where you go & whom you associate with on the street or professionally 💯
And unfortunately, the deceased cannot speak. And unless an autopsy is conducted with honest medical examiners, they wouldn’t know the truth. I’m not trying to insinuate that the ME’s would do this kind of thing. However, I wouldn’t think that these Funeral Directors, Embalmers etc… would do things that were later found with the loved ones bodies. Such a sad situation for the deceased and their loved ones. Check colleges in ur area that offer funeral home directors and see if they also do that.
That's a wonderful idea. I know some states have help for those who can't pay. Losing someone you love is hard enough without having to come up with thousands of dollars to pay for a funeral. God rest all of those souls of those ones who were improperly embalmed or stored in unlawful places. I hope those responsible are in prison!
What a sorry uncaring funeral director to run a funeral home and take people's hard earned money to disrespect the dead exspecially 11 babies .Thrown him under the prison to become maggot food as these people was.
I cant imagine the horror these families went through my brother lost his baby 2 weeks before she was due to be born and the funeral home said "she will be treated like she is our own daughter" they gave us a discount on her cremation and even made memorial cards for us for free 😔 and these poor babies were thrown up in the ceiling and left there like garbage 😭
The same thing happened to my mother. She didn't feel movement for a few days, and the doctor induced her. The funeral director advised Dad not to see the baby as she was decomposing.
My brother's girlfriend at the time had just a week to go until their daughter was due to be born. The doctors should have induced labor because "M" had enough amniotic fluid for 3 women and she complained to her doctor. He told her that if she gets any more uncomfortable, then he'll induce labor. She ended up gushing water at home, my brother called 911 and she was given many tests and so on. Baby girl's placenta had torn away from the weight of all that fluid, causing her to drown. "M" told us she had felt her move on Friday, wasn't sure if she moved on Saturday & definitely didn't feel any movement on Sunday. We quickly made the trip there. It was heartbreaking, of course. The minister at the funeral, who was also my brother's friend, said that she was not born into sin, she was born into Heaven. (A beautiful sentiment.) As I was watching this video, I was thinking that could have happened to our baby. My heart goes out to the families of all the loved ones. I would be devastated as they are.
So so wrong on so many levels......my goodness how could those people still work there day after day knowing what was in the garage and above in the ceiling ? And they honestly thought no one would ever find out ? This is just sick !
As much money as these people generate, you'd think that they would have a heart & assist these families with a burial or at least cremation which is cheaper. If you do right by people, you just never know how much more you'll be blessed. This is just EVIL. So sad to just have these bodies laying around like this. I wonder if a cemetery would have given the funeral home a discount to bury these people/ also speak to family members about what & where their loved ones would end up. But these people are incompetent & never cared about ANY of the deceased. Disgusting & sad that these people were treated like this. GOD Bless the deceased RIP. ❤️🔥💕🕊️🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🥰🥰🥰❤️
My brother’s body was removed from the funeral home by the state. There is a second funeral home that is owned by an ex wife that covered the recently arraigned funerals for the agreed on prices. We had just left our brother’s clothes the day of the shut down. This used to be a premier funeral home when it was run by the father who has passed years ago. This is just a shame.
Great job putting together all of the backstory with your footage. I adds so much when that information is included. The funeral industry definately has had some pretty awful things happen. No excuse at all but I do think when you’ve seen hundreds of bodies perhaps they lose their humanity. Sad and horrifying to think about.
At 7:01 What is that on the wall when they are going down the stairs, half way up the corner of the wall on the right side? Someones hand? It moves away so quickly!
Yeah I saw it to also at 7:51 you can see a figure in the back their souls can now rest easy I believe they were not at peace because of how their bodies were treated now they can move on and rest easy they got justice this is so sad.
hey from Germany...it's terribly sad what happened there. It's a very nice big building and I hope the new owner can put the negative behind and gain confidence.
Shocking it's haunted when she was standing at the stairs at the basement, something a hand or face was peeping out it jumped back when the camera pointed down the stair.
Horrible, really gross. Totally disrespectful. Those people are going to have a rude awakening. Disrespecting the dead brings bad luck to those who are responsible for this. Im glad I'm not in their shoes.
That poor woman, her distress over her sister, broke my heart! God bless her, I wanted to hug her so badly. Try my best to somehow help her. I hope she received some answers!
"These were monsters!!! No one should have to endure this type of pain" you expect your loved ones to be laid to rest and find out otherwise " so heartbreaking to know that unfortunately it is still going on" I pray the families can get closure and the souls of their loved ones rest in complete peace "😔😪❤
I have been in the funeral service industry for several years. This man, and his firm abused these remains in the most disgusting way. He violated the sacred trust that is given to any funeral home tasked with caring for the deceased. He abused his community in ways that is unforgivable.

Yes, the utmost respect should be given to the dead. This is horrific!
This has to be one of the most disturbing things I've seen in a very long time. RIP to all the souls that were mishandled.
God handles souls, not bodies.
And you have to understand this falls back on family. Members because you would as when is the funeral where is the ashes this is your love one
Look up the Tri-State crematory incident from 2002. Guy was "storing" (i.e., dumping) bodies on his property instead of creating them, and pocketing the trivial amount of money he was saving in natural gas costs. There were several hundred bodies found on his property.
The bodies were greatly mishandled not the souls.

Horrifying.
You are very kind. Thank you for being your patients' advocate even in death.

Oh my god! How could this man be so cruel to the grieving families? They had been through enough.
May be the father did some of what the son has done, because I don't see how a human being could carry on in this way unless this is what he was shown
Same my Grandma was serviced here as well I was in the military when she passed 🙏😞

Sounds exactly like a scammer would be, smooth and cunning, and his son caught on fast...
This happened in a town near me as well.. Brent Marsh, a crematory. He would keep hundreds of bodies on his property after his machinery stopped working. Sad….

Family was watches them load
In the hearse, follow
To gravesite, unload, lower into grave, put the vault lid on and we sit there until the last shovel of dirt is put on. Then often go back for days afterward to see if everything looks the same. Had an incident years ago in our town where
Many bodies were put in the ground with no casket at all. Even though the families had paid for caskets and the vault. Not only were their no caskets, if anything buried with them was of value, that was taken too.
This is totally dreadful and disgusting. Those people belong in jail.
As the mother to a stillborn daughter from another state this infuriates me for those families that were deceived by that funeral home and this saddens me as well that they werent properly laid to rest at the time.

He had no life insurance and when the deputy coroner came out that night he told my mom about a program at one of the technical colleges near our city that cremated ur loved ones as part of their teaching program for funeral home directors. It was $450 dollars. I don't understand why more coroners wouldn't tell people about this. The set back is once it goes to their school u can't view the body. I was out of town when he died so my mom was the only one who saw him after death. It didn't leave a heavy burden on my mom as the person to pay for it. Check colleges in ur area that offer funeral home directors and see if they also do that.
That's a wonderful idea. I know some states have help for those who can't pay. Losing someone you love is hard enough without having to come up with thousands of dollars to pay for a funeral. Those poor families . How terrifying.
They would think differently if it happened to their own children
(A beautiful sentiment.)
As I was watching this video, I was thinking that could have happened to our baby. My heart goes out to the families of all the loved ones. I would be devastated as they are.
That's fucking crazy, why hadn't the families reached out 4 their deceased love ones while they sat n rot??
Exactly
Those poor families - Can't imagine leaving my loved ones behind, I would have fought to get my loved ones back.... 😢😔
What is that at the edge of the wall when she’s walking down to the basement? At 7:01 looks like fingers is someone walking in front of her?
My heart goes out to these families. Heart breaking.
I am so sorry that happened to your family and your brother. I am so glad that he was buried appropriately by the new funeral home. 😔
Great job putting together all of the backstory with your footage. I adds so much when that information is included. The funeral industry definately has had some pretty awful things happen. No excuse at all but I do think when you’ve seen hundreds of bodies perhaps they lose their humanity. Sad and horrifying to think about.
Thank you for watching Susan!
yes it's pretty crooked to take advantage of people in that situation
At 7:01 What is that on the wall when they are going down the stairs, half way up the corner of the wall on the right side? Someones hand? It moves away so quickly!
Yeah I saw it to also at 7:51 you can see a figure in the back their souls can now rest easy I believe they were not at peace because of how their bodies were treated now they can move on and rest easy they got justice this is so sad.
@@bree5721 I don't see it
@@bree5721h it's white, could be a cover or something
hey from Germany...it's terribly sad what happened there. It's a very nice big building and I hope the new owner can put the negative behind and gain confidence.
omg yalin the chat 💬 did you see that hand 🤚🏻 sticking out in the corner of the basement 😳
A 2022 update on all facilities would be interesting.
Shocking it's haunted when she was standing at the stairs at the basement, something a hand or face was peeping out it jumped back when the camera pointed down the stair.
I saw that too
Horrible, really gross.
I hope she received some answers!
even with the shaky video the story's about it made it very interesting to watch and listen too.
How absolutely horrible. I hope justice is served & the families get some kind of peace.
We agree! How can you be so sick in the head to do something like this?
"These were monsters!!!
No one should have to endure this type of pain" you expect your loved ones to be laid to rest and find out otherwise " so heartbreaking to know that unfortunately it is still going on" I pray the families can get closure and the souls of their loved ones rest in complete peace "😔😪❤
