I just bought a couple of new sets of D'addario strings last month from Guitar Center. I've been using D'addario strings for years. I had no idea that this much work went into creating guitar strings. This is an interesting and educational video. Thanks Marty! ✌🏾✌🏾
From Leo: Great tour Marty, I appreciate your work. Some years ago I was needing strings for a short scale bass and I had a question. I contacted and left messages at three string companies. D'Addario was the only one who called back. They answered my question and sent me some samples. I have bought D'Addario strings exclusively since. I have Tech'ed for shops on and off, unless the customer wants something else, they all get d'Addario strings. Never have any complaints.
I had a similar experience several months back. I was already used D’addario XT Acoustic Phosphor Bronze strings, but I had some concerns about buying the XS with a different slicker coating and the sound profile being a tad more treble-sided. I sent an email explaining that I’m disabled and without an income, and that I was worried my fingers would slip off the new coating and I’d end up wasting money on a pack of strings that may not work out. But I told them I was eager to try them because people were saying they sound tighter and the new coating eliminates some string noise. I was hoping to get some advice as to whether they felt the XS string were much more slicker than the XT’s. Instead, the company immediately offered to send me a sample XS pack. Then they made a goof and sent a pack of XT’s by accident, and even after I offered to mail them back, they told me to enjoy the XT pack and that the XS pack would follow. The sample pack really helped me decide that I prefer the feel of the XT’s more than the XS on my guitar. It made me feel extremely valued that the company cared enough to make sure I could identify the best strings for my needs and guitar, even as a relative beginner (I’m nearly two years in at this point). I’ve never heard of anyone ever saying another brand sent them an entire sample pack of strings before - and I didn’t even know D’addario would be willing to do so. It’s really awesome of them to genuinely care about helping customers!
I love that the man who’s name is on the package literally know everything and precisely how it’s done and even developed it! That man’s knowledge and passion is incredible! Just never stop making flatwound guitar strings!!! I’m proud to have Daddario on all my guitars!

Thank you - always nice to see owners that still care and know their products instead of just checking their accounts ever 5 minutes or so.
I know this vid is 2 years old but so worth watching...Thanks Marty... The work that goes into making something as low key as guitar strings is admirable here..... D'addario NYXL strings are the absolute bomb, I put a set of their 10-46 gauge on my Strat and they stabilized almost immediately.... literally half an hour on the guitar and you can bend the living hell out of them and they don't go out of tune. unbelievable quality for non coated strings. Over here in Australia the NYXL strings are expensive but god damn they're worth it. The output is excellent too they are loud, bright strings, if you normally play with your amp volume on 5, don't be surprised if you find yourself turning it down to 3 lol
What an interesting video. Jim knows every single job that happens in the factory in minute detail. If more company directors were like that productivity would be sky high. Top Man Jim!
That was really great! I (along with most everyone else) had no idea how much thought, science, technology and good ol manual labor goes into making guitar strings(the right way!). I Have been using D'Addario strings on my electric & acoustic guitars for over 46 years! I buy them in packs of ten, they are simply the most consistent, best sounding, longest lasting quality string on the market! Thanks for the awesome tour!
Very, very interesting. I'm always interested in manufacturing processes. The method guitar strings are manufactured at D'Adarrio is facinating and more than interesting. Thank you Jim D'Addario and Marty for this indepth, step by step explanation of how guitar strings are manufactured. I was glued to my computer screen the entire time. Well done! 🎸 🎶 👍
Man, I’m gonna have to try D’addario. I’ve always bought Ernie Ball because it’s what my local shop had and I thought it’s all wire from the same place. But now I can see the process D’addario uses.
Hey Marty, thank you for taking us on the tour of the D'Addario Factory. I always loved D'Addario strings but now I love them even more ;-) I only use D'Addario guitar strings on my acoustic and electric guitars. Great tour!!
Love it. I've actually been to that location, but I was on the office/admin side. I interviewed for a design job there. I would have taken the job if it wasn't for the time and cost of the commute to Long Island.
excellent video Marty , I only use D`Addario`s ,the 9.5 s are superb, they last ages, are so easy to play and i prefer them on my acoustic instruments more than any other string ,the boss has it right with consistency there, ! great job Jim, and great factory tour Marty.
Wow awesome video, thanks Marty. Incredible passion Jim has for manufacturing strings, great to see the level of interest he has in the business and he really loves what they are doing.
Interesting video. Seeing from raw material to a finished product is fascinating. Most things I own I “imagineer” in my head where they came from and what it takes. The Toyota process is pretty efficient. I was a manager with them and the product was consistent.
Really loved the videoes inside the guiter string factory.very much inspired by it.sir, thanks a lot for such an amazing experience inside how string is made.
I've been using the same Daddario strings since I bought my guitar it's been a year, I didn't have need to change them yet. I used the guitar about 45-60 mins a day in average. No issues for home use, as far as I experienced considering that amount of time they were on there.
Great video - who knew so much goes into making strings! For years I used Ernie Ball strings. A couple years ago I kept getting brand new, sealed sets of strings and they all had corrosion on them. My guess is at some point in production the strings got moisture on them and we’re packaged before they dried. Anyway, I keep returning them and my local music shop would exchange them for free. I’m pretty brand loyal and assumed this was just an anomaly. I eventually got frustrated with this and decided to try D’Addario and love ‘em! I’ve been experimenting with different gauges but plan to stick with them. Thanks for this peek into guitar string production.
Hey what’s up you guys !! Thank you Jim for sharing the process. The video was much more informative than the “how it’s made” on discovery channel . He employs a lot of people, and always innovating. Thanks for your passion which helps our passion. Keep on practicing! 🤘
D'Addario is the only string company that does everything in-house. Other companies simply buy the wire and assemble the strings. D'Addario actually produces the wire.
That was such a cool idea to do, and so lucky to get access. I enjoyed that. I'll probably keep buying the strings I buy, but it sounds like he's getting paid for it anyway. Lol. And it's an American factory. I learned a lot today. Thank you.
Thank you to D'Addario for sponsoring today's video! Check out some of my favorite D'Addario strings and guitar accessories here: ddar.io/marty
Nice move Marty. Getting into stuff like this is great. Visit some luthiers too!!!
This reminds me of an episode of Mr Rogers neighborhood
Factory tours and seeing how things are made are always the coolest.
But its even better when its a Marty tour video
How it’s actually made
I just bought a couple of new sets of D'addario strings last month from Guitar Center. I've been using D'addario strings for years. I had no idea that this much work went into creating guitar strings. This is an interesting and educational video. Thanks Marty! ✌🏾✌🏾
Wow! That makes me feel like $10 or $12 for a set of strings is a bargain! What a process. Thanks for bringing it to us Marty!
They NET over $10 million a year with over 1500 employees. Even at $10-$12 per pack, its a DECENT markup. It costs pennies to make a pack of strings.
@@duanevigue1603 paying 12$ every few months is really not that bad though
@@bread6085 Nope, its not.

Thanks Marty and D'Addarrio for this.
This was a great insight into appreciating the amount of hard work that goes into making strings .
D’Addario is definitely my top pick when it comes to buying new strings!
I love this man’s passion. This is why his product is as good as it is. And why I use them.
D'Addario strings have been my go to for ever! Such a treat to see this!

For some reason I read the thumbnail as "I TOURCHED The D'Addario FACTORY" 🔥🤣 Awesome tour, thanks Marty!
love my D’addario strings and guitar straps. Nice to see the operation involved. Thanks for the tour

Nice. I've been using D'Addarios since the late 80's, because... well, it's what I use and I've never found a reason to switch to something else.
Great tour! Even better because you can see and hear how passionate Jim is about the product. It makes me want to go work in his factory!
Cool! Looks like an interesting place to visit.
Wow! Very cool! Thanks for the behind the scene look!
I've used D' Addario XL 10's since 1976! The Best!
Man, I’m gonna have to try D’addario. I’ve always bought Ernie Ball because it’s what my local shop had and I thought it’s all wire from the same place. But now I can see the process D’addario uses.
I think I read somewhere that Ernie Ball sources their wire from D’addario. It may have been Elixer and they just coat it in house.
@@kent6732 yeah but it’s clearly not made the same way. You can source really good wire and then screw it up MANY ways thereafter! 😉
Who knew wire could be so interesting.
Thanks for shooting and posting this.
Hey Marty, thank you for taking us on the tour of the D'Addario Factory. I always loved D'Addario strings but now I love them even more ;-) I only use D'Addario guitar strings on my acoustic and electric guitars. Great tour!!
D’Addario strings are the best!! I love the EJ16’s on my 00-15. Thx for the outstanding tour of your factory!!
It's refreshing to see an MD that knows his stuff and what is happening to their product at every stage of the process.
Love it. I've actually been to that location, but I was on the office/admin side. I interviewed for a design job there. I would have taken the job if it wasn't for the time and cost of the commute to Long Island.
Nice to see the factory tour.
I just changed my strings to D'Addario yesterday, and damn i love my purchase even more now.
Great video! Keep these tours coming!
They have a great sound and easy to play
What a great experience Marty. Thanks for bringing us along.
Great video, I never realised that so much work went into the manufacturing of my guitar strings.
found D'Addario to be best for my guitar needs since the 80's
I love using Promark drumsticks… and Promark is a company owned by D’addario… so I guess I love D’addario🤘👍
excellent video Marty , I only use D`Addario`s ,the 9.5 s are superb,

I live and used to work near the factory in Long Island, NY. Love their products, cool vid Marty!

Amazing stuff! I love watching factory tours!
Wow! No idea about this string world stuff...impressive...amazin! Thanx.
Great video, so interesting, thank you. I’ve been using their strings for many years on acoustic, resonator and electrics. The best by far. Cheers!
My favorite strings thanks for the video
They are my string of choice. This was a very cool video to see how it's done. Thanks Marty!
Loving those new XS Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar Strings. Great video Marty. Never realized how much work goes into making guitar strings.
I just put a set of D'Addario XL Pure Nickels on my Stratocaster.... They sound amazing and will definitely be stocking up on them.
Definitely deserves a WOW! As the roll gets smaller, the tension needs to recalibrate. Would have never thought that was part of the process.
🙆🏽♂️Oh my god, that's amazing! You're by Jim D'Addario💪💪💪👍👍👍 I'm looking we'll! Greetings from Germany ✌️👋
I have used D’Addario strings since the 80’s.. never an issue… My guitar hero’s used them so I did too.. Cool video
Really loved the videoes inside the guiter string factory.very much inspired by it.sir, thanks a lot for such an amazing experience inside how string is made.
Now everytime I break a string I'll remember how much hard work those guys do in the factory
Wow, I didn't think so much work is done for guitar strings. Thank you Marty!
Its cool to see stuff like this. I dont think most people understand exactly how much goes into making something as simple as strings.
Great job Marty!!! You are a wonderful ambassador for all guitar players!!
I’m just glad they actually gave you a tour instead of… stringing you along. Thank you
Great tour and very interesting.
I use D'addario 32 inch bass strings And Thomastik Indeed 32 inch flat wound , Love them both .

I've been using the same Daddario strings since I bought my guitar it's been a year, I didn't have need to change them yet. I used the guitar about 45-60 mins a day in average. No issues for home use, as far as I experienced considering that amount of time they were on there.

I bought myself a Breedlove guitar last Christmas and now I am officially switching all guitars to D’Addario strings
D’Addrio xs are some of the best Iv ever had.
That was very interesting! Never knew how much work goes into making strings.
Great to see ‘the craft’.
Everytime I get down a rift you taught me I saw out loud but under my breath,”yes masta marty🙏🏽”
Very interesting, thank you!
Cool to see where it comes from
Thanks Marty. Daddarios makes great strings. My favorite.
Very cool. Thank you for this!

Wow,that's insane, thanks marty
I just put D'Addario 80/20 Bronze extra light gauge .010 - .047 on my acoustic 2 weeks ago
That was such a cool idea to do, and so lucky to get access. I enjoyed that. I'll probably keep buying the strings I buy, but it sounds like he's getting paid for it anyway. Lol.
