Extremely interesting. This would make an excellent first chapter as I'm certain I'm not the only one who wants to know what happened and what they cannot allow to leave.
Report from Reddit: This story was written two years ago. The author has since then only written five stories. All appear to be one-shots, so the chance of this getting a sequel is considered to be effectively zero.
Although their story "Or Be Broken" *might* be considered a prequel. It certainly explains the attitude of the humans towards Xenos. The warning "might" have come from the fleeing Xeno fleet, and be referring to Humanity...
Great story; Excellent narration! I first thought this was a "post-war" story, but with the ending, I'm not sure. It almost sounds like humanity is fighting a war with "it" to keep "it" from escaping Earth. I definitely would like a sequel (or more) to tell the story of "it".
Maybe, but, I'm thinking more we're the "it". Those craters as described could not be produced by human weapons. If it was nukes there would be radiation everywhere. Even years after the bombs dropped. Just a crater that was still apparently smoking years later is not human tech. My guess is this is a tragic SECOND contact story. And that in the first contact, the aliens were not friendly, but, quickly found out humans put the death in death world. So they destroyed all their ships rather than let them be jacked by the humans, thus the radio signal.
Interstellar visitor shows up on Earth, turns out bad, they trap it but it decimates the world as it's trapped here. Humies are safeguarding Chthulu away from the rest of the universe.
That was truly a sad story. Usually they are mostly upbeat and showing what humanity can be. I do hope that someone shows on with this story and maybe expands on it into the future.
Now I want more..... What is it that brought the people of the world down? What is it that they cannot allow to leave their world and thus tell others to stay away? Oh, this could be and I hope will be the start of another story.
I could imagine a highly mutatable and highly resistant strain of some virus. Humans have a quite insane immune system because our whole species was always in contact with those microbes and thus may have evolved an immunity after years of being wiped out by it (would also explain why the aliens didn't notice bigger cities, those were wiped out by the virus) and all that remains are people with the goal of holding back that plague. Species from a different planet won't have that immune-defense and that would cause havoc on a galactic scale if not stopped before it catches on to something extraterrestrial. Humans are lost in that sense because they know that they will never leave their confinement just to protect anyone else, Even if that means that some eggs need to be broken or in this case, some aliens who came down for talks. Now that they managed to actually get off the planet, quarantine is broken.
Seems obvious to me. The aliens are all about harmony, sensitive to others. Humans are living engines of chaos, violence and brutality. The answer is: Us
I agree. My best guess is these were not the first xenos to visit and the others were less than friendly. If we'd nuked ourselves there would have been fallout and the craters would have been radioactive. That the craters were just giving off noxious smoke rather than rads was my first tip off that it wasn't a human weapon.
@@Wastelandman7000 It seemed like there was something either impossibly viral or more likely eldritch the humans were trying to keep in the planet. The fact that the sole surviving xeno left the last bit out of their report hints that whatever the humans were trying to keep from getting out might have hitched a ride on the xeno.
Wow. I, too, want a lot more information, possibly from the other point of view. More important, however, is whether "it" managed to escape with the evacuated away party. Many thanks for the story. Take care of yourself.
Long time listener. Thank you so much for what you do. You set the standard that all should follow. There are only a few hours in the day where your show is not coming out the speaker of one device or another in our household.
Here is a like and comment for the story, for entertaining me, to help your channel grow, to appease the great and powerful UA-cam algorithm demon, and get you the recognition you deserve.
Hmm. At first, I thought they had found a post-Apocalyptic Earth and just ran into a group whose culture basically assumed any strangers were assumed to be enemies, especially if they were found on their territory. That the aliens looked close to human could very well mean the attackers didn't even realize that they were fighting aliens. The last bit made me wonder what "it" the message was talking about, and suggests an entirely different reason for the attack.
Well, if 'it' was either nano or biological, 'it' almost definitely escaped. I also suspect the human attackers were already mentally compromised. A more sound strategy if they were still sane would be to use all that time to stage a mortar team. Take out the shuttle, then use whatever means were available to ensure no more ships would be sent to the surface. If it was an AGI uprising, and what attacked them were drones of some kind, they may have got away with it for now, but they better leave fast before the AGI gets ship fabrication up and running. But in that case, I'm not sure how the humans thought they could ever keep it contained in the first place. Also the lack of strategy in their attack shows the AGI is still in the extremely early stages of a singularity, if it managed to reach that stage at all.
Possible, but, I think normal humans are the "it" that the previous aliens were trying to contain. Because to me this sounds like a disastrous second contact story. As to why they didn't use a mortar, it sounds like they were trying to capture the ship. Which is a logical thing to do. Or maybe they don't have any left, as it doesn't sound like any arms factories are left. We have no reason to send radio signals if we destroy ourselves. We're going to have bigger problems like finding enough food to avoid starving. But, aliens who just had their ass handed to them have every reason to warn home to stay away from the crazy war apes.
so either humanity found something or trapped it and nobody listened to our warning's perhaps now they will. also it explains why we were aggressive: we tried to talk you out of it now was the time for action, that or what we trapped had a mental hold on us.
not only do we have Caucasian curiosity? but also Xeno curiosity. Do no come here stay away.. its a warning. did they listen??? lets just go down in to that dark basement where the lights dont work and we heard a strange noise from we no one should be... dont yell any one down there and then go down there. same with dark hallways. don't try to find that strange howling noise in teh deep dark wood where none of teh locals go..
story was interesting, BUT what you've done to the sound track? it was very difficult to understand it compared to your ending track with the honourable credits, which was clear and loud to understand…
I had to stop listening when once again I heard "the swarm", are there any stories that aren't about an insect hive mind who's race we genocide for murdering a single kid (something tragically happens daily in real life.), nanobots, or a human exchange student shocking all the eleven eyed twenty three footed crab teachers? Or how about a story where humans aren't the overpowered heroes? That would be new. (Quick edit!) That was frustration about the genera not this specific channel! I enjoy it very much! No offence to our friendly British sci-fi squirrel!

Marvelous presentation and storyline
I need more of this. I demand a follow up immediately. It was very good, intriguing, mystifying and dark all at the same time.
Good Lord!!!! They had the light to their BACKS!!!! What were they thinking! You wouldn't even need night vision to fight them.
So in order to keep night vision, they had the fire behind them.
Which would make them silouetted by the light, and easy targets.
Not sound at all!
IKR!!!!!! I'm not military and even I know this is a horrible idea.
Probably Cthulhu like a lot of these stories. I do respect that the author wanted to leave it unknown.

Humanity, clearly attacked by aliens who destroyed their civilization from orbit. Then aliens show up again.

So what sort of SCP/ eldritch thing was summoned/created to result in that state? And even worse: DID it leave?
I want more.
I hope this is a prelude to more from this writer!
Very familiar with the book series "The Damned" by Alan Dean Foster.
It escaped with the xeno marines .
And yet they landed ignoring the message figuring. They're gonna rescue someone
So many unanswered questions......
We need more! Omg this was great!
Very well written, but left wondering what on earth at the end.
Sounds like "The Thing"
The only thing more dangerous than the insanely aggressive humans is the...thing...they're keeping secured there.
For the Algorithm, for the Author(s), for the Holographic Voice!
And yet They landed ignoring the message
Welcome to EARF!
Very good story!
For the author, for the squirrel
This is what happened after Stitch didn't get attached.
