Having just upgraded to Windows 10, I've had to abandon my Focusrite Saffire Pro40 interface (which I've had since 2014) as it's no longer compatible. So last week I bought a 3rd Gen Scarlett 18i20, which is pretty much identical in functionality to the Saffire, and it's wonderful. It has better pre-amps that include the 'Air' feature, the build quality is excellent, and best of all the Focusrite Control app is soooo much easier to understand and use than the Saffire's Mix Control, which is arcane to say the least. I'm very happy indeed with the Scarlett, and I'm sure you'll have a great time using your 4i4! May the 4i4th be with you...

Just finished watching your video on the 4i4 which I went ahead and ordered, with Wiki discount, it's about $216. You're very thorough and appreciated your gentle but very tactful and clear in presentation. I went for the 4i4 because of the MIDI connections as I'm just beginning to learn keyboards...at almost 72, I figured it's time while there is time ...lol Would like to know if you'll be offering other technical tutorials and what you've created so far. Perhaps some tips/directions to other 'quick' trainings re keyboards. My main focus right now is as a voice actor which is another good reason to at least get the 2i2. Look forward to hearing back...thanks

Ralph, it is my pleasure, so glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. I am always looking for ideas for new videos that will help my viewers. I would love to hear some specific areas you might be interested in to feature here. Most of the content seems to center around instrument libraries and such, but I am working on how to better present some hardware and techniques.
It is never too late to start, someone is waiting to open the gift you have inside of you but it must first be wrapped up and shared.
All the best and thanks again for watching.

As an experienced amateur musician/multi-instrumentalist with a guitar, several synthesizers(mainly semi-modular), and a microphone this is literally my very first audio interface and my first time ever producing music or recording music properly through a PC/laptop or even using a daw however I have some experience with using FL Studio mobile. I planned on buying FL Studio with it on my new laptop but I realize because I'm a beginner and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with learning some of this I'm just going to use the software that's with the scarlett and keep it simple for now until I learn more about producing music.
I've had the Scarlett 4i4 for 3 days now but in the morning I plan on installing it on my Windows 10 laptop.
I'm hoping the basic daw that's included(ableton live lite) will help me do what I want to do which is basically live podcasts and simply recording live music. I want to learn to record and produce but my main hobby I want to do here is live synthesizer playing in video podcast form.
Eventually my goal is to be an experienced music producer.
I am the most beginner you can get when it comes to music production amd music software/Hardware(besides synthesizers and effects pedals) so any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
I know the video itself is great advice but like I said I'm a super beginner beginner lol.

Welcome to this amazing adventure! I have been involved in music production full time for 30 plus years and have watched technology go through so many changes. Today with everything that is available you can do so many wonderful things.
As far as a DAW I have been a Cakewalk user for many years. It is now a completely free to use program and has everything you need. I use it for all of my livestreams and the majority of my productions. It is good to try a couple of programs and see which one feels the best for you.
UA-cam has so many resources so I am blessed that you found the channel and look forward to helping you in your journey as I can.
      Joyfully yours! 🎹

Its cool to see a fellow keyboard player who is into Start Wars, just like me! lol. (nerds unite) I found your channel searching videos for that interface which I bought this morning. I'm now subbed and looking forward to learning from you. I'm an old key player from the 80's and I'm just now getting into the comp setup. I have quite a few software keys that I've collected and never used. Stuff I could never afford in the hardware form. Anyways, Greetings from Denver - Gitz.

One thing to make sure of is that you have a dedicated USB port for the interface and that it is not sharing a hub with any other device. There is a utility called USB Tree View that allows you to see how everything is connected to the various USB Root hubs. Thanks so much for watching.

I plugged in my midi keyboard with midi in and out cords so it popped up in Devices. I tried using Spitefire Audio's Soft Piano plugin but it will not communicate with it. The piano/keyboard is not controlling the plugin. Help appreciated! :)

I have a Bose S1 Pro with blue tooth. I'm singing karaoke via blue tooth on my tablet. I have two wireless mics that plug right into the back of the Bose speakers. How would I use this this Scarlett 4i4 interface to record my karaoke to my computer? Your advice is deeply appreciated.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  3 роки тому +1

You would plug your wireless mics into the front XLR inputs and your tablet audio would go into the rear line inputs 3/4. This audio would then be routed to your computer DAW and you could record as separate tracks for mixing later. The other output could go to your Bose S1 for monitoring but since everything is going out live you would have some bleed with getting some of the audio of the backing track rolling back into the wireless mic. That would be my initial impression. It also depends on the DAW you are using. The Focusrite Control does gives you a few options to set up your inputs and monitoring so it could be done.

@@PraiseTracks That all makes sense. My 4i4 is due to arrive this evening. I was going to plug the two wireless mics directly into the Bose S1 while using the blue tooth feature with my tablet. I was then going to use the "Line Out" on my S1 and plug it into one of my 4i4 inputs and send everything all together to my computer DAW in one package. Do you think that would that work? I really have no idea. I'll play around with it starting with what you suggested above. I really do appreciate the help as I've been searching how to set this up for days now. Very inexperienced here and just trying to record some fun with the family. :)

You have 1 mono combo input jack that lets you hook up a microphone 🎤 or guitar/line input. Not quite sure. I use it with a pair of Sony and Westone in-ear headphones. Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
I’m considering this as an upgrade from a 2i2 1st gen. I recently bought a Steinberg UR22c but it has long standing
audio dropout issue so will be returning it.
Steinberg no help and have had good experience with Focusrite.
I don’t necessarily need the extra inputs but midi I/O is useful hence 4i4 over 2i2.
External power is something that seems to be left off many interfaces so I’m assuming that the bus power is sufficient
    in all situations.
My 2i2 doesn’t start or is recognized on Windows boot up. Needs to be unplugged/replugged every time. I think this issue is
now fixed with the 3rd gen.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  4 роки тому +1

I have found the 4i4 to be pretty stable over the past few months. It is critical for the best performance to have it on a dedicated USB connection not shared with any other devices, that will give you the best results.
I also have finally figured out the Focusrite Control that allows you to take full advantage of the Loopback feature which is an absolute necessity for streaming.
So glad it was helpful and all the best on your audio adventures. Please let me know if I can ever be of assistance in the future.

Jireh, I have been using the 4i4 3rd Gen for quite a while and it has been pretty solid here. My system is based on the Intel i9 9900K, but I think the main issue with eliminating pops and such is making sure the audio interface has exclusive access to one of the USB Root Hubs. It must not have any other devices sharing resources on the USB connection as I have found this is the primary cause for most of my previous issues.
USB Tree Viewer is what I have used to help me see how all of my USB Devices are connected and helps me to make sure the audio interface is on its very own root hub. You can check the program out here to see how your USB devices are connected.

An interface gives you the ability to connect to a computer allowing you to capture AUDIO and MIDI to a Windows or Mac DAW (Digital, Audio, Workstation). Think about it as having a recording studio inside of your computer to capture your performances and be able to edit and distribute a finished audio file to those you would like to share your creations with.

I appreciate the feedback as it seems you have had some negative experiences with Focusrite in the past. I have had my share of frustrations with the 4i4, especially trying to get the USB drivers stable, but recently it has been a pretty good run. In my last couple of videos I noticed some pops and clicks that were frustrating, especially when using OBS and my DAW for streaming and recording. It seems that my motherboard ASRock Z390 Phantom Extreme has a really unusual way of "sharing" USB ports. I thought it just might be some CPU multithreading issues or something but then I thought of something. I just now connected the 4i4 on a dedicated USB 3 PCIE interface so it is the only thing connected and it seems like it is performing better.
Another thing I do find frustrating with the 4i4 are again, the drivers. I love using Voicemeeter's virtual mixing app but it will not work with the 4i4 which is very disappointing, as it is definitely a problem with the Focusrite drivers.
      Thanks again for watching.
