Dealing with these self-righteous, smug hypocrites is so incredibly frustrating! Being told your struggle to find answers, which didn't result in the prescribed answers, is due to your own unbelief or disobedience is so invalidating. The vast majority of us, especially those of us that are vocal about it, were not looking to leave the church. We were the most devout! We weren't looking for reasons to get out - something just came up and caused maybe a small question - and in our quest to find an answer or to confirm our faith, we found more than we initially set out to find. One rabbit hole led to another and we learned we've been misled - at best! We weren't lazy learners - we were and are the most diligent and determined seekers of truth!!

This is so engrained in the subconscious, that even friends who were genuinely trying to understand me, started questioning what did I do wrong in the process.
If God told me the church is false (or at least didn't confirm the church is true) --> it HAS to be my fault.

@@michaelnicholas5587 The BoM is a fabrication of a con man that has nothing to do with canonical Christian scripture. JS made up the names of places in the book by mutating names of little towns in Ohio and NY. He ripped off Masonic temple rituals (and got kicked out of the Masons for it). He sent men off on missions and married their wives and married sisters and mothers and daughters. He did jail time for conning people with his treasure hunting scam. Plenty of Christians are baptized and have a relationship with Jesus without buying into this cultish buffoonery. And yes, there is historical evidence behind every single point I just made.

      Here's a hint of truth:
      The church is not god.
      Prophets are not god.
      Prophets are people.
"it is the same" Wonder who said that? Not god. A prophet said that, unsuprisingly.
The specifics of what you believe, you didn't get from god.
You got it from other people who said they spoke for god.
THEY told you what was doctrine.
THEY told you how to test it
      YOU felt something
      Or experienced something
      Regardless of what you felt,
THEY said what you felt was a confirmation.
      And then...
THEY told you that facts don't matter, only the "confirmation".
(Remember, YOU only felt something, THEY are the ones who labeled it a confirmation or testimony)
      And then:
The original prophet cheated on his wife at least 20 times (recorded history)
      - doesn't matter, you had a confirmation!
Intermediate prophet called african americans all sorts of slurs (believe me, I tried translating it and it's stomach turning
better yet, don't believe me, go look it up)
The current prophet created 13 shell companies to avoid government regulations
      - doesn't matter, you had a confirmation!
(That's not even history, this is news today)
Are you committed to the TRUTH?
      Or to the Church?
      You can only pick one,
      Choose wisely.
As one of my prophets said once
      "Question everything
      Or shut up
And be a victim of authority"

@@michaelnicholas5587 Facts: Joseph Smith was a conman who did jail time for it. He made up his “restored gospel”. He made up the names of places in the BoM by slightly changing the names of little towns in Ohio and NY. He claimed to be able to translate “ancient Egyptian” which has been proven to be garbage. He married sisters and mothers and daughters. He married other men’s wives. In other words, he acted whole lot like Warren Jeffs and David Koresh, who also claimed to be “prophets” and to possess “the truth”. He stole secret Masonic rituals for his temple rites (and got kicked out of the Masons for it) Mormonism has virtually no connection to canonic Christian scripture. Mormonism is not the only church that baptizes, and it definitely is not the “only truth”. Plenty of people can have a relationship with Jesus without turning off their critical minds and wearing funny underwear.

As she mentions in several videos, I went to the church's prophets and apostles to solve my questions.
Surely these wise inspired men would lead me to the truth.
What deep profound answers did they have?
      "Doubt your doubts"
      and
"Don't worry about it, be a good boy and do as we say"
Ironically, the prophets, seers and revelators taught me the truth:
It's false. The church is false.
      What a terrible realization
      But also, what a relief!
Truth will indeed set you free.

I had a bishop that seemed very loving and I adored him. In a very friendly conversation in his office I told him about some of the questions I had not just about the church but about how we imagine God. He told me very calmly that I am an apostate, will no longer get a temple recommend and will not get to see my children get married in the temple. He also said that I should stop wearing the temple garments. He also said "Your spiritual death is more sad than the recent death of the teenage member of the ward, who died in an accident!" He then dismissed me. I was in total shock! I always knew him as a very kind man. A few days later he sent me a letter of apology but without taking anything back, stating that he decided that he did not intend to be a "popular bishop " and rather be a "judge in Zion". Later I found out that he treated many other ward members like that, causing many of them to leave the church and some to move out! When he eventually moved out of the state, it was without announcement and without the usual going away party.

Jesus doubted. When he was dying on the cross, he questioned why God had forsaken him. Like all humans, Jesus observed his situation, and often had questions. He also got pissed off. He did civil disobedience in the temple, when he vandalized their stalls, and drove out the moneychangers. He also got frustrated with the disciples, and wondered aloud how long he had to put up with them.
True spirituality accepts and invites doubt. Doubt is not the opposite of faith, it is part of faith. So is anger, fear, creativity, reasoning and disagreement.
One of the worst things about Mormonism and other cults is that people.are not allowed to be fully human. They are the walking dead.

I always had lots of questions about the church cause sometimes it just directly would contradict what jesus said, and the adults in my ward didn't like my questions as a kid, to the point i'd have to ask my mom (dad was too lds to answer me) and that led to me praying about it eventually and getting a "no" answer. My mom also got unfairly excommunicated so that allowed me to actually leave and be supported by at least 1 parent, which helped me a lot.

People with fragile beliefs that are structured around strict black-and-white thinking will feel that way. Emotionally stable and reasonably mature people can generally feel curiosity and interest, or just apathy, when learning an "unfamiliar idea". WOW. I love how hard the writer is trying to avoid actually saying "when confronted with damning evidence that your belief system is built on lies and your entire world view is now thrown into question." THAT would of course cause uneasiness, which is what believers go through when they learn the truth.

I’ve been taught to reach out in empathy and love, not to judge. For me, I try to treat others as I would like to be treated as Jesus taught in Mathew 7:12 and 3 Nephi 13:12. Most members deal with doubts at one time or another. There’s a talk by Steven Harper called “Why I became a Seeker.” He’s a Church Historian and talks about doubts and how to navigate them. He doesn’t seem to demonize anyone for having doubts. In fact, he makes it sound like a normal part of life. I could give references to other talks as well. That’s been my experience. This was a BYU devotional talk in June of 2021.

In the Protestant denomination I grew up in, doubts are an integral part of distinguishing human teachings from eternal truths. That can only be done by individuals and often guides the Church away from bad ideas - like obedience for its own sake. We think that you can't become a mature human being as long as you're obeying other fallible mortals.

I disagree. Today’s society is too soft on women. They rarely get held accountable for bad behavior and it’s fact many women get lighter sentences than men on the same crime. Test this out by comparing the sentences with female teachers having sex with students to male teachers having sex with female students. It’s disgusting how easy women get off on these crimes. One recently got only probation for having sex with a male student

5:27 On the story of Abraham and Isaac: I once worked with a sweet, loving, highly religious, family man who had very severe late onset schizophrenia no one picked up on it until it was too late to stop an absolute catastrophe. He believed the voice in his head was god, and that when it told him to sacrifice his son he was doing the right thing. His son was approximately 5 years old. I was there the day his meds kicked in, and he understood exactly why he was in a maximum security psychiatric forensic facility. It was completely devastating when he looked at me and said, with full understanding for the first time, "Oh my god, I killed my son." From that moment on, he was on a 1 to 1 watch (terminal self harm) because he couldn't live with what he'd done.
The idea that baseless faith should never be questioned is one of the most terrifying components of any Abrahamic based religion. It is an idea that needs to be challenged at all times.

When I was in my late 20's I had come to realize that the lds faith most likely wasn't real and that there was almost certainly no God. That being said I continued to keep the commandments and be obedient even though I didn't believe it anymore because I had been taught "fake it till you make it". I was obedient for a whole additional year after I'd become atheist lol. Then I had the courage to leave.

Also, Daniel Amen a psychiatrist does brain scans and has determined that alcohol is not good for the brain. Therefore, I don't drink alcohol. You are right about no one listening to you if you said god told you the church wasn't true. I have told people I quit going to church because I realized the church was teaching that feelings are evil. Even though the members I told this too can't really argue that the church teaches that feelings are good, they still continue to go to church.

@@michaelnicholas5587 I found mantra meditation in book Meditation for Dummies which benefited me immensely. Mantra meditation made it easier to feel my feelings and not act on them. Mantra meditation benefited me 10x more than scripture study, church attendance, temple attendance, etc. I am much happier after implementing mantra meditation in my life. The LDS church did not teach me mantra meditation or breath meditation where you focus on your mantra or breath and anytime your mind wanders you bring your attention back to the mantra or the breath. The LDS church also taught me to feel shame when I felt anger, jealousy, fear and/or pride. The book Meditation for Dummies encouraged me not to act on feelings, but to feel the feelings until they release or go away which is much easier after doing mantra meditation.

A fun fact about the binding of isaac story; if you learn the 4 source theory of the torah, all of the stories of isaac after the near-sacrifice are from J source, in E source the binding story is the last time he comes up. Some scholars propose this implies that in one of the original versions of the myth, he is sacrificed. It's quite possible the compilers or later hebrew people changed the story when they were trying to differentiate themselves/changing their opinions on human sacrifice at a later date
almost like this is a 3000+ year old living document where people have been changing their minds on what is or isn't moral the whole time

Ironically Mormons teach that coercion to do what’s right was Satan’s plan, and then they use so many coercive, manipulative methods in furthering their beliefs. It’s wrong.
Also, a word on faith and proof. The scriptures teach plainly that obedience to divine principles as an expression of faith is supposed to yield good fruits that confirm the divinity of said principle. I see this pattern on my own children. I want them to understand and always try to foster that, but sometimes they have to learn on their own. When my kid is about to get hit by a car, I need his exact obedience on the spot. Also sometimes kids have to learn the hard way. But over time (typically a short time) good and bad fruits manifest themselves plainly.
But the Church infantilizes its members, and never looks in the mirror when its teachings yield bad fruit. Instead, it abuses faith and applies “Satan’s plan” to keep members in traditional orthodoxy. Just in the recent GC one of the 70s explicitly put obedience above “Christian kindness.” What a scary paradigm! I thought divine principles were supposed to make good people even better, and that being a “good person” was the low bar, not something that will be in conflict with being a disciple of Christ.
I’ve got people in my ward who fit that and just can’t understand why their kids have stepped away.

My faith , with a small minority of jerks. They will get what they have coming. Never attack another religion. Never attack anyone. You can defend, but don’t look to attack other Christians. We are on the same team.

First questioning is part of the faith… to research, think, ponder, ask God… For yourself! This is a core tenant of the faith. From the very beginning we had agency and we can’t learn without questioning and choosing and finding out for ourselves. Doubting and questioning are very similar. The point is are you looking for truth or looking to prove something right or wrong? Are you being objective? There is absolute truth

  • @andresvillarreal9271
    @andresvillarreal9271 Місяць тому +1

I disagree slightly. Obedience for the sake of obedience is not for dogs or for humans. In the same way in which you analyze the cases where your kids are obedient and otherwise, you have to analyze when and why your dog is not following orders and change your training accordingly. Many orders that you give to your dog are not understood, so obedience is impossible, and the same goes for kids. Many times you are demanding obedience in situations that completely go against the most basic instincts and desires of your dog. For example, when you walk your dog with a leash, prevent him/her from socializing with other dogs, and scold him/her for trying, you finally get your dog to be aggressive against other dogs.
We, the gregarious animals, already have a strong inclination toward obeying the authorities. What we have to teach is a thoughtful and qualified approach toward conditional obedience for the benefit of the whole group.

I recently found your channel and initially thought you probably had a few videos that talked about your experiences with the Morrmon Church (both before and after you left it). I now have a better understanding of the videos you make, which raises an important question: what kind of air freshener do you use? I assume that it must be exceptional. You may have even developed a specialized, homemade version for your use case. A dead horse's odor will fade over time, but the smell gets reinvigorated every time you agitate its cadaver by beating it. I grew up Methodist and have no stake in your anti-Mormon campaign. I just wanna say: we get it. You do not think the Mormon Church is morally acceptable. We read you loud and clear. You can stop scouring press releases from or about the Mormon Church, sparing you the effort of examining them in the most cynical way imaginable so you can propagandize its contents for your audience.
You can suspect what you like but I told the truth about not having any LDS affiliation. Imagine someone with a vendetta against the high school he graduated from because of some traumatic episode he once experienced, or perhaps his grievance is with one or more of his former teachers. Would you think this hypothetical person had sound mental health if he devoted the rest of his life to publicizing his beef, magnifying as many petty quibbles as possible, and turning every new piece of school-related information into a hyperbolic anecdote that further proves his narrative about how bad that school is?
