I was the guy who designed John's intro to his videos. It really hit me in the gut when he died. He was always kind to me and I enjoyed the little friendship we had. Every time one of his videos came out, I always felt like I was going to visit an old friend. I still get a little down when I think about him, or visit his page and see how long it's been since his last video. I have one of the memorial "Friday Savinelli" pipes as well! I've only smoked it a handful of times, but it's one of my favorite pipes. Such a good guy. He's definitely missed.
You are part of his legacy! He was such a great guy and a true gentleman. I sometimes can’t believe that he’s truly gone. I’ll talk with Brad (pipes and Kayaks) and we remember him often. Brad took it real hard, they were very close and hung out a lot together.
Thanks for reminding people about Matches/John and Artful Codger/Ben. He was doing some stuff with Eric thebluecollarpipesmoker ) a get together or two). John introduced Sarge to the YTPC and came up with Sarge's YTPC handle. Hope you get some relief from your migrane. Also on your needed surgery. Thinking about you and your family members and hoping rhinos go well. the
I was smoking a 673 full of haunted bookshop when i clicked on this video. Its funny that you bring up these guys. For some reason youtube started showing me a bunch of John's videos recently. I haven't watched any in over a year but ive probably watched 10 in the last few days. I started watching him years before i started a channel or even figured out how to comment. Wish i could have met him. I did meet the artful codger and spent quite a few hours in the old codgerville chewing the fat and blowing smoke. What an interesting fella. I talked with Brad on the phone a couple days ago and strangely we didn't talk about matches. We usually do at some point. Well, life moves on. Still nice to remember once in awhile. Good luck with that surgery.
I love this video and I appreciate you doing it. Very reflective. Nice to take time and remember. Thank you for your videos, sir! ❤️❤️🙏🙏 Smoking a Rossi with Luxury Navy Flake.
Those really were golden days of YTPC videos…I loved the Artful Codger and his 1930s radio style videos. Of course Matches story telling was legendary. He taught me how to plan a video…such a lovely guy….of blessed memory.❤️
Nice memories. I sure miss both of those guys! I still remember calling you when I saw your video announcing that John had passed away. Thanks for helping me through that tough day, Johnny!
Hi Lester, the Artful Codger is/was amongst my favourite presenters. I was fascinated by his long time hidden identity and stage set. I just wonder if he felt he’d felt he’d done his best creative work.
Yes sir, I miss those guys too! I wasn’t part of the YTPC when matches was alive, but discovered that he’d passed away after I’d watched quite a few. That was pretty sad when I found out. I discovered the Artful Codger too, but that was also after he’d stopped making videos. I also wish that he would come back. Oh well. God Bless!
Great video and enjoyed the chat. I certainly miss those two also, especially John. I still watch his videos regularly. Beautiful location and best of luck with the surgery. Regards Mark
Thanks for posting this, I'm still new to the community, but ran across someone who mentioned Matches 860. It started me down a rabbit hole that led me here. I didn't know him while he was still a mere mortal but I'm grateful that his videos are still out there. I'll be checking out Artful Codger as well now.
Great folks you mentioned. I definitely miss matches but, like you, I'm happy to still have his videos. Hope the migraines improve and the surgery goes well brother
I only discovered Matches after he was taken from us. Taken only a month into my own discovery of the Y.T.P.C.. I never had to chance to communicate with matches, but do miss him. I still watch his videos, and, have yet to view all of his videos. But when the day arrives, when I view watch the last one, it will hit me. Still pull up his live Halloween video, every Halloween. I have done the same with John's calming vids to fall into sleep. May God keep you well, Onion.
Matches and the Artful Codger were the first videos I found, albeit not in the hey-day. The both had voices that you could listen to for days, and Matches could transfix you with the simplest story. I've been discovering some of his earlier videos recently that I didn't catch before. Thanks, it's good to relax with you.
I used to follow several of the YTPC a few years ago. I fell out of watching them until recently. I enjoyed the greats as others did I had forgotten about your channel. I am back. You also are very enjoyable to watch.
I got into pipe smoking when I was inspired by the Artful Codger by his Christmas live chats 😊😊 I watched every video he did and sure miss him now…but…I guess its normal that many ytpc move on in their lives and stop making videos…but…its makes me think…those were the good ol days when The Artful Codger and Matches were around on UA-cam 😔
All I can say is wow. I’m not sure how I came across this video. I feel exactly the same way. In fact I just got done watching some matches 860 videos just before this. And codger…. I didn’t know AC passed??? Both of them meant a lot to me when I started smoking a pipe. I’ll always have my matches savinelli 756/860. As for artful codger I’m stunned. His videos always made me want to buy velvet. I still also have a bunch leftover. I’ve had to put the pipe down until recently, just now getting back into it. I’m super bummed man. I’ve been wondering why haven’t seen his videos come across my recommendations on YT. It’s a sad day for me. Did anybody offer a pipe set for artful coffee like matches ?? Please lmk
Anyone know why The Artful Codger moved on from making videos? I loved his stuff. I still rewatch the handful of videos he left up. I actually left a comment on one of his videos about 8 months ago and he responded to it so he's still checking in on the channel.
I wished I could have Mitch matches I’ve watched some of his videos he seem like a really cool guy enjoy your videos to . I ain’t seen no onion patch yet
Damn damn damn! I fell out of pipe smoking when John passed and was about to start back into it today…. Went to find Ben and see how he has been doin since the last time we spoke… did he pass also or is he just no longer making videos? … he is such a kind person to sit and talk to, as well as a fun guy to try my stupid impressions on haha. Who knows, I might get back into shooting videos and share where my life has taken me. If anyone by chance has a way of getting in touch with Ben, I’d be forever grateful. If it weren’t for him I never would have tried velvet haha

Ben was one of the greats. I won’t come close to filling his shoes that’s for sure. And Matches….there will only ever be ONE matches860.

Great memories of Matches. I am glad that most of his videos are still available for us to view. Good luck with your upcoming leg surgery. 💨

Weren't "Discovery" and his tale of the runaway nursing home ducks classics? I got a lot from Matches too.
I’ve got Velvet in the cellar from Ben’s influence 🤣🤣

Artful codger is still with us, just decided to stop making videos! He is still very much alive.
Artful Codger was making videos under another name.
Anyone know why The Artful Codger moved on from making videos? I loved his stuff. I still rewatch the handful of videos he left up. I actually left a comment on one of his videos about 8 months ago and he responded to it so he's still checking in on the channel.

Hey Johnny, long time buddy. Been away for a while, did something happen to the Artful Codger? Great seeing you! Happy Piping!
