I’m female viewer here. I do have the 31 mm version. Also I bought a timex 20 years ago. I don’t remember the model but still it’s working and in good condition. Thank you for your review

I’ve had the 38mm version for 5+ years. Very simple versatile watch that can be a beater or casual business watch depending on the strap. For $30-35, no reason to not have one of these in your collection.

I spent 3 weeks in Kanazawa back in 1990 and LOVED it! I was 16. I’ve always wanted to go back but it’s doubtful. I fondly remember the hot baths, pachinkos, beer in vending machines and how nice the people were. And how beautiful the it was.

#6 The type of battery this watch uses. 2016 Lithium battery from my experience lasted me at least 5 years and that's playing with the indiglo quite often.

Back in the 80's the Timex was what kids wanted. When the Indiglo came aout I wanted one bad, but being a student I could not afford it. So I bought an imitation offered by other cheap brands. I remember they had orange glow, yellow glow. I believe Timex had the blue glow copyrighted. I just ordered my first true Timex Indiglo this weekend. It's a used Timex Expedition. Can't wait!

The white Weekender 38mm was my first in my current watch obsession/journey. Your reasons in favor of this watch are SPOT ON! I love mine as it my ‘chameleon’’ watch, as you correctly state, it’s very versatile. 20mm lugs are a brilliant decision from Timex. I just change the band and it goes with everything I wear. Mine has a subtle blue second hand which is cool. Sadly, it is also my clunker and has kept me from picking up other in the line for fear of the loud ticking sound as you correctly pointed out. Another great, honest review, sir.

The Timex weekender is what got me into watches, but not in a good way. After 4 years of wearing it I woke up one night, tired of the loudness of the tick, and I started googling ways to silence it. There wasn't much to do, but I found out about the chrono version that didn't have that loud tick so I immediately purchased it. That one got me really hooked on and the rest is history.

very nice video, i thoroughly enjoyed it because of the quality and the info shared. you kinda sorta help me pull the trigger on this exact model. i haven't had a leather strap watch for 16 years, plus a light coloured dial is preferred. i own way more expensive watches but i'm looking for something casual, fun, that which does not require a lot of care. i had swatch watches and i guess if their ticking was not annoying for me, then that of this timex won't either.

I know that anecdotal evidence is not that meaningful, but I see Timex being always so praised and I don't have a similar experience. I bought a Timex for myself some years ago, it was around this same price point (around 50 euros). It wasn't very accurate; I sent it to customer service and when it came back it still wasn't accurate (though I did send it back through the shop where I purchased it, so maybe they didn't even bother..? I don't know). Then the date complication stopped working, then the Indiglo function in the crown got stuck and not working, then it just stopped working altogether. I brought it to a (different) watch repairer who told me that it wasn't even worth repairing for how much the repairs would cost compared to the value of the watch. Oh, also by the end the leather strap was COMPLETELY destroyed. And I didn't treat it poorly, I just, well, wore it while I was studying at the university, and in fact the (acrylic) crystal only had a very, very faint scratch. Even considering all the time before it finally died, it lasted less than two years. Maybe the small women's watches come with different mechanisms? In any case, I'm definitely not buying Timex again. I've had a Festina for something like ten years and treated it MUCH worse (keeping it in water though it is meant as a fashion watch, sometimes forgetting to take it off before sleep, using it rather than my newer Timex one on hikes...) and it took something like ten years before needing any repair, for a damage which by the way was probably caused by water leakage (not the watch's fault: the rubber ring inside - I'm not American and I don't know the name - got ruined when a watch repairer changed the battery), so it's completely understandable.

Timex has so many models you can always find something,
but the backside of that is you can also easily make a mistake,
they throw in models that look nice but aren't practical / legible.
What absolutely bugs me is the date adjustment,
( I do own many Timex ) and the crown positions are very sensitive
it happens a lot that instead of adjusting the date you stop the watch,
and spend 5 minutes to find the correct position to adjust the date.
btw. my favorite Timex is a 36mm 90% plastic "Expedition" with 50 meter WR
even the lume on the hands is lasting for hours.. ( model nr. T40011 )
I think it is some chip of the block of a Timex Military prototype..
4 screws metal caseback , easy to polish plastic window, indiglo,
only runs a few seconds fast in a month, the battery is still running
after 4 years. ( funny thing they totally forgot to put a model nr. on the watch )

I really like the Expedition scout, got one for my brother awhile back, and almost got one for myself a few times. I don't think I've ever kept around a Timex with a date on it, I had the Fairfield and the Metropolitan for a bit, but those are both no date models like the weekender.

Do yourself a favor and buy the cheapest Weekender you can get. They often sell the ones with less desirable straps cheaper. The reason is because Timex's straps suck and you'll want to replace the strap right away with something better. I noticed Timex nato straps are not like a normal nato's the dimensions are off or something.

You can also fit about five dynamite sticks in the strap. This may replace the casio F91 if you're going for that classic aesthetic. But has no alarm feature, so you will have to improvise. hey may i know the product number of this watch? when I see your page at amazon, it says it is a TW2R42400 but when I googled it, it's a cream dial one. what is the one with the white dial exactly like in this video?

I have owned the 40 mm version for 3 years , same battery , but the plating on the crown is nearly worn off . No big deal , maybe even adds to the beater watch idea .

Just bought mine, really like mine in a blue dial/brown band, and no date window too, I don't like date windows on my watches.

my timex weekender mineral crystal has scratches and I want to replace
it. Does anyone know the diameter and thickness of the OEM crytal so I
    can order a replacment?

I agree with all the positives and none of the highlighted negatives bother me. Overall it’s a great watch.
I have 3 weekenders, the 40”, the 40” chronograph and the smaller version, is it 35mm?
What bothers me most is the mineral glass. I am wondering how long it will be before I get it scratched?

How do you use the nato straps on the watch? I have the same watch and the quick release straps won't allow for a single strap, only two piece straps. Did you attach quick release spring bars to the weekender? Thanks

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  4 роки тому +1

You'll need to get some normal spring bars to do it. The 40mm weekender uses 20mm spring bars. Just install them and then slide a NATO in.

I liked the analog look of Swatch watches but I realized they don't last long and not repairable (I'm not knowledgeable about watches at all) so I wanted a cheap analog Casio but those don't have lumen so this could actually be the one

I was able nab one on timex site for 33 bucks. I love the watch, my first watch I purchased in a very long time. Unfortunately, you are right, it's very loud. I have put it in my living room because I'm not use to hearing the ticking when I'm trying to sleep. I will definitely check out different straps! Just got into watches :)

I got a weekender by timex 38mm 35 bucks because why not? I wanted a Hamilton but it's outside of my price range I think I'm doing good 1 timex q reissue 1 casio tiffany blue, a weekender I only want 1 seiko for Christmas 😊
I would just stop the watch when not in use to kill the loud tick tock.

I prefer the Expedition Scout. Can't hear the tick over my tinnitus. Need day/date so prefer Lorus. To me, the Scout would have been almost perfect if it had day/date. Also needs 100m.

Great review! I love timex. I wouldn't call them a great value though. It still feels like a cheap watch. It pains me to say this, but a great value is something along the lines of an Invicta pro diver. Sure, it has no classic aura, and has many haters, but for $50 more, its twice the watch. I love timex, but I would never call it a great value...to me, it feels like a $50 watch.

    • @JusttheWatch
      @JusttheWatch  5 років тому +3

That's an interesting perspective. I think recently there's a lot of watches really competing in this price range that makes Timex not quite the value proposition they once were.

I had been eyeing getting a field style watch for a few years so I recently ordered a Timex Easy Reader when I saw it was on sale at a department store here in Canada. Before it arrived I did some research and kind of regretted it...chrome-plated brass case, "leather-plated" strap, malaysian movement I think with that tick - not a big deal, probably could get used to it but still.
Shopped around a bit more a found a really nice watch from a Canadian company (Momentum Flatline Micro Lume) on sale. Yeah I paid almost $100 more but I get a stainless steel case, sapphire glass, Swiss parts, a fully (Italian) leather strap and 100m water resistance. Yeah it costs more but at least I know I have a quality piece that probably has some resale value if I want to go that route.
The Timex looked great and I love the Indiglo but to me the only thing that saves it from being some cheap Chinese watch is the rich history. Take away that history and it's nothing special. The Timex will be going back.
Edit: Actually I made a mistake on the price difference, I paid about $78 more for the Momentum watch so definitely a much better value.

i dont think this watch should be passed, I own the Casio MTD-110 illuminator. Killer price $45, bought in 2017 and they dont even make it anymore. So I think this is good watch to own. True dont get it wet and hopefully if you get 5 yrs use, you are winning all day long!
