Josh is right. $2,000 or more is around what the average person might spend. If you are coming as a tourist grab a hotel vs. a Airbnb or rental. You won't pay for water or electric. You can save a lot on food by buying from street vendors. I don't drink alcohol so that saved me some. Nor do I need haircuts (bald) Certain areas are more expensive as well.
All great points, thanks for the comment! No utilities in most hotels and airbnbs although if you book a monthly rate on airbnb, quite often you’ll have to pay to utilities too, if they mention it on the listing. The Thai govt recommends 65k pm and I feel that they've nailed it pretty much. You don't want a shite room and to be counting your pennies at every turn. Every time I have a 40 baht meal I'm eating again within the hour just like the Thais.

Nice video Josh. Seems like a very good budget for your balanced lifestyle. Mine would be similar, minus the monthly gym cost. I’d probably be satisfied with the gym in the condo facility (if there’s one). I’m 53 years old now. The days of hitting the gym hardcore are behind me. 😂 That would save me $180/month and I can put that money towards the “emergency funds” category. 😊✌🏽
Thanks for the comment! I’m pretty content with this lifestyle and budget. Defo could save money on the gym, a lot of people just use the condo gym for that 👍🏻
That is a crazy amount for water! It will be cheaper to buy a water filter for a few thousand Baht which you can use for a whole year and not have to carry up everyday.
@@josh.onthemove Yes, 24.5 Baht to 1 Canadian....But! and it's a big one, if you don't own your house in Toronto and have to rent, cost of living is around $9,000 Canadian a month. Thanks for the comment and I agree that it’ll be different for everywhere you are. I do mention that it’s contextual in the video and there’ll be caveats. Most foreigners as tourists, expats, or digital nomads, won’t be living like a local, even if they’ve been here 5, 10, 20 years. just moved from miami to pattaya last month. gotta say. EVERY SINGLE THING is fucking WAY MORE EXPENSIVE here than miami beach! Every single thing except the cost of housing, home tax, and HOA/cam fees are 1/20th the price. food is double to 5x the cost, supplements 5x the cost, literally everything so much more expensive here. and not just western brands…. that said, if you spent 5grand a month on housing and 1k a month on everything else then coming here to have the same lifestyle goes from 6k usd to like 2500 because your housing costs for exact same thing will be 1/10th.
"EVERY SINGLE THING is fucking WAY MORE EXPENSIVE here than miami beach!" ? Really? You sure?....what about cost of massage and haircut? COST OF INTERNET? COST OF EATING OUT? COST OF TAXIS AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION? ELECTRICITY AND WATER? ......🤔
@@HeyWattsUpCycling If you mean supermarket food (western brands specifically)), I agree with you, it's very expensive. Once youve been here a while, you will get to know the local markets where fresh produce is half the prices of the supermarkets.. Eating out is clearly MUCH cheaper. Especially if you eat Thai food. What I mean by public transport is the baht buses which only cost 10 baht a trip and almost everyone uses them as they are so cheap and convenient. Taxis are incredibly cheap if you use the Bolt app. Have been here for 20 years so I think I know what I am talking about.

I'm a bit confused that to live comfortably in Thailand you need to spend 1500-2000$, but do the locals earn as much? Let's assume they earn like 500$/month, then why the cost of living seems to be this high?

The minimum wage is 380Baht per day of 8hr work, about 10euro or 300euro per month working every day. With $1000 dollars per month you are spending as much as a whole family of 4 children. In 15 years, the cost for Europeans doubled and after the covid, the price of food increased by 50%. To note that Cambodia is more expensive but Vietnam is much cheaper. I live in these 3 countries, Vietnam (Nha Trang) is my preference.

Or suggestions on the best way to go about booking it? Online or just arrive at reception. Hope you can help. Love the content and keep it up
Hey thanks for the comment. La Habana, La casita, Dusit D2 condo, Marvest - these are all good options for condos. If you’re going for three weeks it might be better on airbnb but if you wanted to book a month (could be better value, even if you just stay for 3 weeks) then FB marketplace can be a good option. Hope that helps 👊🏻
@@josh.onthemove Cheers mate. It's much appreciated. Thank you
The Thai govt recommends 65k pm and I feel that they've nailed it pretty much. You don't want a shite room and to be counting your pennies at every turn. Every time I have a 40 baht meal I'm eating again within the hour just like the Thais.
@@Roof_Pizza I didn’t know they recommended that but I completely agree. I’m not living like a rockstar but equally I’m not going without anything I want. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻
$2,000 usd a month for Hua Hin is reasonable. Bangkok is probably the same.
For a good quality of life’s I think it’s pretty good 👌🏻
Been going to Pattaya for 25 years to live there you need 2k sterling/ 100,000 Baht a month. Thailand not cheap anymore.
Would have loved to have seen it 25 years ago!
@@josh.onthemove Best days ever 73 Baht to pound.
Hey bro what’s the gym called that you are training at?
What sort of work do u do if u don't mind josh? I'm trying to figure out how to get out there and work remotely not something I'm used too but well seasoned in Thai life so would be buzzing to see if I could get out there and fund it
I work in the health & fitness industry, been doing it 10 years. I also do some video editing part time. Finding work here will be next to impossible so I’d recommend getting some online avenues and taking any opportunities that come your way. Keep improving and upskilling with whatever you’re doing and opportunities will come when you’re good at something 👍🏻
50 bucks a month for utilities, holy cow! We are now at 500 bucks in western europe 😢
The comparison is crazy!!
Thailand best destination for digital Nomads 😊 thanks for sharing your experience
It’s the best place I’ve found so far. Thanks for the comment!
That would save me $180/month and I can put that money towards the “emergency funds” category. 😊✌🏽
Thanks for the comment! I’m pretty content with this lifestyle and budget. Defo could save money on the gym, a lot of people just use the condo gym for that 👍🏻
I don't know how people do it. My wife and I burned through 4000 USD in 5 weeks in Phuket, and she's Thai!
That is a crazy amount for water! It will be cheaper to buy a water filter for a few thousand Baht which you can use for a whole year and not have to carry up everyday.
You’re not wrong 😅
Had to come back to this, just came back from 7/11 and I worked out the drinking water costs were half of what I mentioned in the video. My bad!
@@josh.onthemove Ahhh, you can now wipe your sweat away guilt free. 😅

yeah that's about right ......add more for a woman
That's on par for what I spend. But it's $3,000 a month for me thanks to the crappy Canadian dollar.
Is the exchange rate poor for you right now?
@@josh.onthemove Yes, 24.5 Baht to 1 Canadian....But! and it's a big one, if you don't own your house in Toronto and have to rent, cost of living is around $9,000 Canadian a month. I own my house so I can pay taxes, utilities, & food for $3,000 here, but that's no going out, travel, and I'm screwed when it's time for repairs, new vehicle etc. Another Canadian Vlogger just did a video about living in Toronto concluding a person needs to make $150k to live comfortable. Quality of life is much better at one third the price in Thailand. The whole world is getting more expensive. That's life, cheers.
HI, nice video but only reflects a new arrival/tourist. Ive lived and worked here in Thailand for 16 years and i eat Thai food and live pretty much as a Thai person does here. I live up country and have a good work/play lifestyle and i dont spend anywhere near what you budget for. Thailand can be as expensive or cheap. Its down to the individual and their needs!!
Old people tend to spend less than younger people.
This is through the lens of a digital nomad and somebody living in an area that’s got some western comforts 👍🏻
That’s the same globally. I do say you could get by on less, I just enjoy my lifestyle and what it can get me for this cost 👍🏻
@@BangkokBurbs Young people don't have much money. 🤗lol
@@ianfitton272 Thats cos they spend more than old people do.
I extremely surprised people fly all the way to Thailand to eat McDonalds and pizza 🤦🏽♂️
I usually fly to china to get fish and chips
The rent and gym fess seem excessive for a place like huahin.
I am a member of 2 gyms in Japan and pay about 3500B a month.
@@nrz197 do you think so? 6,000 baht for 10 private 1:1 sessions and gym access? That’s £13.50 per session, if you don’t include the gym access, I’m really happy paying that, people need to make a living too 👍🏻
@@nrz197 I’m currently in a really nice apartment in a new and modern complex that’s close to everything. I’m happy with the price there too, defo can find cheaper options around. What are you paying for your rent in Japan and in which area? Thanks for the comment btw 👍🏻
@@josh.onthemove Thanks for the input. Lived in Japan over half my life so own a fairly big house about an hour from Tokyo. Monthly payment is about 23k Baht. About 1.5% interest on house loan. Your gym deal isn't so bad when you take into account all the private lessons.
Don’t be advertising this place brotha 🤩Nice to meet you man , great collection of videos 🧘♂️
Haha our secret… good to meet you brother 👊🏻
just moved from miami to pattaya last month.
ELECTRICITY AND WATER? ......🤔
@@chrisedwards7966 im talking about the food brother. who uses public transport anyways? and yes, electricity is WAY MORE here.

Luxury, quality, cheap, expensive; it’s all a matter of definition and a point of reference. We all tick different and what may be cheap in my book, can be expensive for another person. Bangkok can be affordable and ultra expensive. All these YT videos are clickbait.
I'm a bit confused that to live comfortably in Thailand you need to spend 1500-2000$, but do the locals earn as much? Let's assume they earn like 500$/month, then why the cost of living seems to be this high?
It is indeed high, the locals don't spend this much though, and they don't have the same lifestyle!
Thailand is not cheap . If you dont eat street food . An food if you like to buy européen food it is dubble price .... fruit is cheap . Pharmacie for tablets our vitamines is expensive . Any européen cosmétique is ecpensive so we spend 4000 e rent 900e same i pay in paris
It’s a lot cheaper than the UK, Australia and the US but it’s not dirt cheap if you want a good lifestyle 👍🏻
Very honest review these lads that say you can live like a king for 1000k sterling a month jokers.🤣🤣
They might have a different idea of how a king lives 😅
The minimum wage is 380Baht per day of 8hr work, about 10euro or 300euro per month working every day. With $1000 dollars per month you are spending as much as a whole family of 4 children.
In 15 years, the cost for Europeans doubled and after the covid, the price of food increased by 50%.
To note that Cambodia is more expensive but Vietnam is much cheaper. I live in these 3 countries, Vietnam (Nha Trang) is my preference.

Thanks for the video and sharing, last year(2023), I lived in the Jomtien area close to Pattaya for 6 months and my monthly budget was $3K and that's with companionship with a regular Thai lady for 3x a week and not buying any lady drinks and barfines. In my early 50's now and back to work in sunny Cali to build more extra savings then retire for good. I'll try to come back to LOS late next year maybe of the possibility of retiring since America is worse right now.
