  • This 1990 Nissan 300zx project car was given to us for free from a former police officer. His intent was for it to be used for parts to save other restoration projects. However, this 300zx z32 may be worth saving. We take a closer look at some rusty areas. Then we begin trying to get the VG30de started after it sat for many years.

Yay I'm glad you're saving it haha. Welcome to the VG life but it's really not bad. The thing is this car has always been an engine out car, once it's out it's easy, if you work on it in the bay then of course it's a bit difficult, a lot can be made easier with specialized tools. Just a heads up before you change those injectors, go ahead and buy yourself an impact screwdriver. I got mine from Amazon, tekton brand. Reason being the screws look like Phillips but they're actually JIS (japanese industry standard) screws so what ends up happening is that if you use a regular Phillips screwdriver they can sometimes strip or snap easily so the impact screwdriver tends to be the best way of getting them off without swearing. Best of luck to you on doing the deletes, opens a good bit of space afterwards.
Edit: also just thought. Cover the lower plenum with tape so that you don't drop the bolts into the engine. And lastly have a magnet close by you in case 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

That line to the exhaust is AIV. found on earlier models. Also there are 2 gas tank drain bolts on the tank itself. My z sat for 12 years and my fuel looked like red koolaid.
    Delete the following.
    AIV
    EGR
    PRVR
    Coolant Lines under plenum
Carbon can if it bothers you.
The vg is much easier to work on with all of those pulled. esp if its an NA. If you work system by system, the VG is really not that bad. if you can work on a VG you can work on anything.

    • @Nismo65
      @Nismo65 4 дні тому

yep i have deleted all that crap and more on my 1990 NA 2+0 there not that bad to work on just depends how good of a mechanic you are but i have been working on cars for about 43 yrs. i have owned my Z32 NA for 22 years the only things iv'e paid labour for is having tyres fitted and some paint work and the seats recovered in leather. and I still have no plans to sell it. still only 130,000 KLMs is all it's done. but lots of performance mods over the years.

This is probably one of my favorite video's to date. i used to work at the local Nissan dealership and due to the complexity of the vg no mom and pop shops would touch them. so i would work on them almost daily. being at the dealership everything had to go back 100% stock. the TT is even worse with the vacuum lines lol. i still torture myself to this day working on these cars in my shop and at this point you could show me a random hose and i know what its for and where it goes. this brought me back to the days of working on my first vg30. thank you lol

If you think about how bad the damage was on your 240, and all the work you put into it, this 300 doesn't need to be pulled straight, you can get patch panels and over time fix her up. I think that car deserves it just as the 240 did, most people would have given up on that 240 but you didn't, don't give up on this car.
She's got an amazing history and owner who loved the car. Much like Tony angelo who's fixing up someone's car, I think it would mean a lot to the cop to see the baby restored and loved again.
These cars aren't an infinite number, we will run out of them. Someone will love this car just as he did, just give it a chance.

Friendly Advice: In the future, dont try and start anything with the old fuel in it. Fouls the plugs and can potentially leave scum in the cylinders. Just drain it. Always drain it. Could damage the pump too. Also, faster to get under there and pull the fill neck off and pump it out there. Congrats on the new car. You got the best deal imaginable on it. Ive wanted one for awhile, unfortunately I have a buddy locally who buys everyone that ever comes up for sale. He owns about 6 of them.

bad plugs or sticky injectors could be for sure. working on a vg390de as we speak that sat for 7 years. had to flush injectors and replace fuel pump and clean out fuel tank. had to let atf sit in the cylinders for a couple weeks to soak down into the rings and help free up the older dried up oil. now she fires rite up and idles smooth. even the clutch and break systems had to be reworked., but we all do it or pay for it to be done because we love these old Japanese gems

I’m saving a 1990 model in Australia atm. Z-bruhh on UA-cam shows how to delete all the useless stuff on these. AIVS, EGR, PCV, intake coolant lines etc. Simplifies the engine bay a lot. Coming from s-chassis, to this was a mad learning curve and actually understanding why everyone says these are the worst engine bay to work on.

Read this with Buntas voice from Initial D.
Save the Z. She has untapped potential. But this time its gonna require a little more than just 4 cylinders and a turbo. God"Z"la has the chance of being a true monster.

I have a set of early injectors you can have if you need em bud. I just picked up some brand new stock ones to get me by with my new engine build until I decide if I'm gonna go with stand one and bigger injectors soon.

It’s definitely a bit more cramped but watching you take off the intake on this reminds me a good bit of pulling the intake on a subaru ej. the lines hidden under the manifold are always a good time.

The first car i ever worked on outside of basic battery work and oil changes was a Z32 with a VG. The VG is a great engine that is reliable and makes alot of power on stock internals. Ive done timing belt, valve covers, egr/pcv delete, flow tested injectors, all the maintenance on rubber gaskets, etc. Your ka swap was imo WAY more work than just doing the deletes on a VG. a vg na with VTC is much faster than KA. Im gonna stop because this comment is sounding pretty hateful. I Love your channel but have to defend the VG because people hate on it way more than it deserves.
