I’m gunna give you guys a HUGE tip that I NEVER see anyone mention about flip resets. First, a flip reset is only possible because the ball is recognized by the game as a surface, and if all four wheels are touching a surface you get your flip “reset.” Since this is true, it is also true that holding “R2”, “L2”, and neither (while at the point of contact) makes a significant difference. I find using neither most consistent. Holding R2 will slightly push you in front of the ball which you (normally) don’t want. L2 is extremely useful. If you break with L2 at the moment of contact, you almost get “glued” to the ball. This is good for getting resets with high momentum, or to start a double, or triple. I feel like nobody knows about this. Even if you are a high level player, test it out. You will notice the difference. Takeaway: When you make contact on a reset: -Make sure you are not holding “Drive.” -Advanced players: Experiment with holding “brake.” I stumbled upon this when analyzing one of JSTN’s triple flip resets. A clip where he had his controller layout on-screen and noticed he held L2 on the first reset. Hope this helps!
Thanks for this man! I am Champ 1 aspiring to be a pro in south asia region anyway I was training for flip resets and I was having a hard time following it up so I figured what if I brake? It really did make a difference and thanks for confirming it here

yoooo i made it into a vid, that’s my clip at 9:17. it was the first flip reset i ever made in a game. i gotta say, although you make some good points, learning to flip reset and do other advanced mechanics when i was in diamond, before i “should” be learning it, actually helped me improve a lot at ball control in general and i don’t regret that time spent at all. now i can hit quad resets sometimes and i’m gc1 in 2s. when you decide to learn certain mechanics is 100% preference imo.
Totally fair. No one could ever convince me that quad resetting will ever be useful competitively but if you're learning flip resets for fun, go for it! Just wanted to clear up the common misconception: "I want to learn to flip reset so I can rank up". Many people seem to think flip resets are something you should use whenever you can.
This may sound crazy, but one reason I practice learning these types of mechanics, even though I'm D3, is because it helps me greatly with overall car control, understanding where to touch the ball to get what reaction, and helps me think in more out of the box ways, at least for my rank. I don't devote insane amounts of time to this stuff, but I do cycle through ceiling shots, air dribbles, and flip reset attempts, and since I've been doing that, I'm WAY more confident in my aerial/ball/car control. My biggest issue is my shots/shit placement/shit power for sure, and I do practice that, but I also feel like I'm getting closer and closer each time I see a noticeable uptick in my wall/aerial play.
It’s crazy that the game has evolved so much in the last year to the point where I’m c2 and I feel like I need to learn flip resets already for that exact scenario you spoke about near the end of the video. I feel like I can’t score with a regular air dribble or double touch if there are 2 defenders back, I’m just hitting backboard touches for my doubles and they often defend them, or I hit shots they save because there is 2 sometimes 3 on the goal line.
I have been leaning flip reset for a bit over a year now. Key difference is that i never knew where is the center of mass or that i even needed that😢😢. I just thought at least 3 wheels has to touch it
here's aa tip that no one ever mentions, once you get the reset tilt up immediately after so it pushes the ball higher making the second touch easier to do
