- Hackers and cheaters in Rocket League are getting so common that it's actually a serious issue at this point. Pro players in the RLCS are talking about it every day now. Psyonix definitely needs to do something fast. There are 3 different kinds of hacks/cheats we're talking about today.

I am so baffled and disappointed at the fact that Psyonix and Epic Games still haven't done anything about most of the cheating situations in Rocket League. They have been slowly getting worse and worse over time and this past month was the true tipping point for it all. The top 100 leaderboards are filled with cheaters of all sorts. Psyonix is banning some of them occasionally but missing others entirely. Rocket League used to be one of the only competitive games out there with no hackers or cheaters. Nowadays, Rocket League is filled with cheaters and hackers, particularly at the highest rank. It's even preventing pro RLCS players from practicing how they want. Psyonix and Epic Games, please do something about it and communicate with your community.

Game played entirely differently and was such a laid back experience by comparison. So much more magic to the game bc we could still be surprised.

What’s crazy is I’ve spoken to a few of these hackers and they’ve been doing this since before free to play, the just kept it low key. Apparently there was some beef, codes got stolen and sold off so then it finally hit mainstream

How psyonix and epic are gonna fix this:
1- Keep getting as much money out of this game as they can with 20 dollar cars
2- funnel out as much of RL as they can into fortnite
3- let rocket league die
4- start over with a new game and repeat
Why am I afraid this may happen? This take on the situation may be more insightful then many realize. Hopefully, we are all wrong about it.
Exactly, just ask yourselves why did they acquire Psyonix? It's not because they wanted Rocket League so badly, it's because RL was a competitor they had the opportunity to take out while also trying to funnel as much of the players into fortnite (or at least that's how those execs would think it works). They're doing some cross-promotion nonsense for a while until it's time to pull the plug on RL and tell everyone to move over to the fortnite racing crap. They bought RL for the user base.

It’s truly sad what happened to Rocket league. Took away trading, cheaters every where, no new content for years but hey, at least I now can see the boost from my teammates… so sad what this beautiful game has become ever since Epic bought it

Its a comp game, what brilliant ideas do you have for new content? because every single time i see ppl complaining about this they never have any ideas to add, they just kinda cry. And ignore the fact that new content has definitely been added. Knockout? The other new modes that basically nobody plays? Tournaments? all added after epic bought the dev studio.
Trading change sucks but the vast majority of players were not trading regularly. Cheaters are not everywhere. I have over 16,000 games played. I would know lol, yall really are like lil kids dude stg, over dramatic about everything.

Patch notes are on the RL wiki. You can find all the updates since Epic bought the game and then after reading tell me there has been no new content "for years" plz.

“Ddosers” are not hacking either btw. Sever crash exploit/bug. Epic has ddos protection, some of the best around. And ddosing is a fel0ny offence. The scabs crashing servers are not hacking anything. It will get fixed.

Creation tools would be nice but lets not pretend like custom maps on pc are widely used by anyone for multiplayer. Nor would be even if baked into the game itself. Its a barebones comp game. Theres not much to experiment with, people hardly play the extra modes…because most of players play for the comp side of the game. Rl is not a sandbox and really wouldn’t work well as one. How do yall not get this 9 years into a games life span?

I honestly quit rocket league 3 months ago, and with this im even MORE glad I quit. Rocket League just keeps going down, it's sad because it was a great game at one point.

I quit as well when Fortnite started becoming really popular again and I’m glad I did. Rocket league killed itself, and I don’t see it coming back.
Yeah stuff like this makes me want to uninstall for sure. Unfortunately there's no game like it at all even remotely. So I just queue up and play for fun.
there werent as many cheaters before because RL still had a purchase price, now they can just remake an epic/steam account and keep going

I have played since day 1 and this is the 1 game I can say that was light years better before "improvements".
1. Hitboxes used to be specific to the car, now they make no sense.
2. Crates were an awesome part of the game.
3. MAPS had octagons, valleys and ramps
4. Trading between friends
5. No cheaters
6. Rare items that could only be rolled and not purchased
Game is ruined and I quit about 10 months ago. I still keep up with these videos because I played for about 8 years, but really don't understand what devs were thinking.

@@TheOhWulf oh yes, nice new servers that have been requested for probably 8 years now. The boost meter for teammates is a great feature, that could also have been part of the base game 8 years ago.
Did we need them right now? Not necessarily but it's definitely nice.
What do we actually need now? Hackers deleted. New unreal engine to bring back more players + ingame creation tools. The return of trading to make the game feel less like a complete moneysink.
It's just that the timing of this update makes it feel like a bandaid that is covering a festering wound which requires surgery.

Cheaters are in rocket league now because they stopped rewarding players who found exploits/bugs with White Hats (good hackers are known as white hats), which were super rare and extremely coveted. Now they’ve got nothing to do with what they find so they just do it in ranked
They've been here since Epic bought the game, these invisibility hacks are not new to RL
After 4,000 hours, I quit a few months ago and have no regrets.

Take it off free to play and see how many people still cheat. That was the biggest mistake.
the community agreed to make it free to significantly increase the player base. people didn’t use to cheat because the a.i needed to cheat was absolutely garbage. but then a few nerds decided to have a competition on who can make the smartest and mechanical robot and they uploaded it for public use.

That's not really true though, CS:GO had massive cheating problems even in lower ranks way before it went free to play, and I'm sure there are more examples. Hell, CS:GO still had cheating issues in the paid queue after FTP was released.
@@Lasair517 That's a problem with enforcement then. I don't deny paid gaming can still have cheaters, but then that's on the devs to crack down and actually go after those people. Plus, if people stop buying the game because of cheaters, that creates an incentive for devs to reduce cheating possibilities. In FTP, it's basically impossible to stop, and there's really no incentive for the company to do anything about it.
@@steelerfaninperu I think you're wrong about a lot of that, but most of all I just want to mention how in a game you pay for, there can be a perverse incentive for the owners of the game not to crack down. Because cheaters buy the game again and again after banwaves. Unlike normal players.
In the end I don't think the issue is FTP, not when it comes to cheating anyway. As long as there is known methods to cheat in a game, there will be cheaters.

if your a game dev, you'll notice the problems in your games. (devs don't make games and then not pay attention to them.)
if your a game dev, you'll notice that the biggest thing to worry about is money to keep funding the game or the time you need to keep working on it. and you'll do almost anything to keep getting those funds. especially if its a big game like rl.
if your game has cheaters and nobody talks about it, then people usually just leave and don't play the game.. unfortunately then the problem is the fact that your game has cheaters in your game and is not good for business.
BUT!... if your game has cheaters and youtubers find out that there's tons of content to be had(making them money), and the devs see that all this does is brings more attention to the game (making them money) while players keep playing it, then why rush to get rid of the cheaters?
I remember when you found an exploit you used to be able to report it in exchange for a white hat which was valuable because you could trade it.

I'm not that high in 1s (c3) and I'm not even from EU or NA, but I still played against a cheater who DDos'd the server. These cheaters are really getting out of hand, doesn't matter your region or rank, they're everywhere.
When u ruin a game completly people eventually decide its more fun to cheat than to deal with the garbage game its become. They ruined ranking, they ruined trading, smurfs are worse than literally ever by double, horrid serveres, and a speghetti code that makes it lag randomly. Epic games is a garbage company

i should mention that c3 is rather high in ones tbh, its so much harder to be higher mmr in that mode that unless you main it you're usually one whole rank behind your 2s rank. im 1600 in 2s but my 1s peak is 1048 (c1) (from a couple of seasons ago but ive taken a break for most of that time so it doesnt really matter) i could 100% be c3 in 1s rather easily if i actually played it but no way im getting gc anytime soon

There is a similar situation in Apex Legends right now. There is a guy who keeps taking #1 Apex Predator (#1 SSL in translation) by miles from ending the game in approximately 2 minutes.. the games take 15-20 minutes usually. interesting to see it in other games too

The game will die if they don't act up. No one wants to play an unfair game
There's a lot of people who already feel it is unfair when you can make a new account on a whim and the ranks are a joke now.

Had a Ddos hacker recently, casual players won't recognize them but i instantly knew something was up
how could you tell? I have 16k games played over 4k hours and a college education in IT, Networking specifically. There is no way to tell, if the server is getting DDoSed vs normal regular server issues, a third party would have no way of knowing outside of tracking your ops on leaderboards or tracker. And even then there is no 100% way to. Especially on a game with servers this bad. But plz do share your great wisdom since you just "instantly" know. Gooofy bro.

Sure you can't be 100% certain it's a ddos unless you've got server logs, but a ddos attack does follow a pretty typical pattern of service degradation quickly ramping up until no traffic makes it through.
I do wonder if it might be some other DoS attack though since the server seems to crash very quickly. It could be something like a buffer overflow that people misattribute to ddos.
Either way the result is the same for gameplay purposes
@@nolifeorname5731 In the case of RL the only way to really know if the server was crashed by someone intentionally is to look up their other games and see if this happens regularly with them in the game.
If it does it's intentional, if not you have nothing as evidence to say it is.

The crazy thing is to keep playing this game, as fun as it was (i spent 2k hours on it), the devs just abandoned it a long time ago and it just felt like they where laughing on the community face, i quit like 6 months ago or so
Explaining LJ is the mmr recordman in 2024 is the most NA bias i've ever seen.
It really breaks my heart. Rocket League was my favorite game of all, I've started playing in 2017, spent 3,400 hours in it (that's A LOT for me) and was in the top 2% in 3vs3. I stopped playing in season 1 after epic games took over the game. Long before the nexto bots. I see that epic games left this game to die, they don't have enough profit from it to fix such an extensive cheating problem. What a shame
first 2-3 years were golden in RL, everyone just played. Nowadays...community changed a lot. Quiters, afkers, trolls...its waaayy too toxic there.
And when RL went to epic/F2P, that was last nail to the coffin.
Honestly I believe RL is a learning experience for all of us understand that games will be traded from company to company and then you will see the companies that actually care about maintaining the games or just milk it for cash. This isn't the first time and it wont be the last. 343 Killed my childhood game Halo and there's no updates to DLC, nothing but now we know 343 is a trash company that only cares about milking us, just like epic.

Recently I’ve had MANY many unplayable servers where everyone would start lagging and my team would be lagging while the other team can freely love and score. I’m in the C3-Gc2 range of the game. They need to make it so that if it’s a 4-0 lead, and the “server disconnects” the winning team gets their W. Tired of losing 10 mins of my life to a 1 trick pony.

Direct correlation with the game going F2P unfortunately. Now people have throwaway accounts, so cheating and toxicity have skyrocketed. If you aren't spending money, then no big deal to start over again when you get banned. I realize they aren't going to remove F2P at this point, but that's a shame.

Wintrading in 2s works like this. U have 3 accounts that will be gaining rank, and 1 account that always loses. Then u just rotate each account to the dead accounts team and snipe yourself with a VPN. So account 4 will be our dead account, so 1-2 vs 3-4. Then next game would be 3-1 vs 2-4. Then 2-3 vs 1-4. It's a 2:1 win loss ratio so u still go positive. I did a test and I got 3 fresh accounts to ssl with rewards in 2 hours. It wouldn't be a hard fix at all either. Just add a simple filter patch that won't let 4 players on the same IP q into the same lobby😂

i remember a few years ago playing rainbow 6 where ddosing was happening in basically every single high level ranked game. was absolutely miserable and you had to actually pay money to some sketchy 3rd party website to keep your IP off the software. sad to see it's coming to rocket league. besides that weird period where you'd face nexto every once in a while, it's been great to have almost no cheating in this game.
There have been modders, scripters, cheaters, and all other types of hackers in nearly every game from plat-champ for the last 3 years. It's good to finally see mainstream youtubers finally admit that there ARE cheaters in this game. Hope it doesn't take another half decade more to get this solve, or admit all the problems in the cheater column.
Smurfing wont ever be taken care of because the amount of alt accounts being crrated everyday makes their game look popular to partners/sponsors for their pro events when they submit their qaurtley numbers.

smurfing isn't nearly as negative as cheats tho. also keep in mind that a lot of people are forced to play on alts to have an enjoyable experience with their lower/higher ranked friends without ruining the ladder. it's not something often talked about but that's a bigger part of the community than you'd expect

Ive had my champ rewards for like 5 seasons and im not so sure about this one because every time i party up the other team always has someone on a unranked fresh 800mmr account while they r sitting at 1097 or similar in diamond lobbies its terrible and will never get fixed.
Mmr disparity doesnt work with unranked accounts and they wont tighten up the mmr average between lobby match ups
Smurfing is present in any online competitive game and is really hard to prevent, it's not something exclusive to Rocket League.
The only way I can think of to fix this is to require phone number verification for every account you make.

The websites that sell steam accounts also sell cheats so I find it very hard to believe that people buy accounts with botted hours but not cheats
For some clarity coming from a cybersecurity perspective, DDOS stands for Distributed Denial of Service. This is an attack style that usually incorporates potentially hundreds of servers, IoT devices, etc to overload the bandwidth and processing of any victim node.
If the attacker is not "distributing" the connections via other methods, then the more standard Denial of Service (DOS) attack makes more sense.
I know most gamers use Ddos to refer to server crashes, but just want people to be aware of what these terms actually mean. Ddos's have been common in video games but it seems unlikely to be used here. If bad actors want to take a whole system offline I can see a Ddos being used, which should immediately pop up on Epic's radar.
My expertise is in a field adjacent to cyber, but from the looks of it these bad actors are using a more subtle disruption method.

Halo 3 had a system where you wouldn't gain rank if you're playing the same opponent 3+ times in a row. Something like this could help discourage MMR boosting.
But at such high levels when getting a queue is so rare you are more likely to get lobbies that are just the same over and over again cause there just aren't enough people queuing

witnessed this happen to omarmaton about a month ago on stream, he was actually beating the invisible hacker until he got booted offline, stream froze and then abruptly ended. everyone in chat was telling omar to just ff and leave but he was hell bent on beating him😂

I'm glad someone is pointing out the proof of Lag switchers\DDoSers in Rocket League, I've been pointing it out for years and it's crazy the amount of people saying it's not possible and it's just lag etc etc
I typically have ping between 15-45 depending on servers. We were up 2-1 and randomly our cars went weird. Both my tm8 and my ping spiked to 200+ for the entirety of the match. Next game our pings were back to normal. Sickening especially when they say "EZ" after the game

I noticed a pattern a while ago, where servers would jib out after a goal and wouldn't realign until another goal would go in. I often thought that maybe there is some method to destabilising a server similar to a DDoS attack. I originally thought that if everyone is affected, it is only beneficial when a goal is in favour to the attackers or against the attackers if the odds are clearly stacked against them. But seeing this video, and how they boot the other players, this method definitely makes sense. Its sad really that people hijack tonnes of others fun for their own distorted gain.

Just a guess but the vast majority of people probably dont trade so the impact of removing trading was vastly overrated. I myself have thousands of hours but have never traded.

I went from C2 down to plat in a matter of about 80 minutes because of cheaters and smurfs. Every game had GC tournament winners and Champ tournament winners on the other team, my teammates are usually boosted bums that need to be back in silver. This season is terrible for trolls and smurfs. Nobody in champ, diamond or plat is doing flip reset double taps.

you want us to believe you ran into SOOOOO many cheaters AND smurfs that in 80 mins you lost THREE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY MMR?
if you lost 10 MMR a game, (even being overly aggressive with this MMR loss just to prove how dumb this all sounds) it would take you 38 games straight of losing to achieve that huge of a de=rank.

We would even have to assume you FF every single game at exactly 1 mins 30 seconds into each game exactly when you are first allowed to. Doing this 38 times with ZERO downtime between games and countdowns gets you to 60 mins.. and you lost all that MMR in 80? hmmmmm
A full game for context is easily 6-9 mins. Que times at C2 can easily reach 2-5 mins and it takes 15-30 seconds to connect everyone and load them into the server once a matchmaking has been found. you couldn't have played even a few full games while losing that much MMR in such a little time. And allllllllllll to smurfs and hackers too, who of course all had rank tags? even if you were TRYING to lose that much MMR in that time frame in you straight up couldn't lol. Physically impossible. Fully delusional.

@@TheOhWulf I'll add something to the math, when a new season start, the gain and loss in mmr is greater than just 9/10 point, going for 30 and decreasing(it's not 30 for sure, but around that ~), I don't know the exact math behind that, but I usually just have to wait under 30 seconds to get a match, it greatly depends on the playercount at the hour you are playing at, and also the region.
if we assume the dude was in losing streak since the start, got a bunch of smurfs (that's old news, everybody knows they are in a lot of games), go a tilted mindset and started forfaiting as soon as he thought it was cheater/smurfs/unfair.
I don't see it as that much of a stretch, but I'll also add that when we are playing, times flow differently, so I don't see it as impossible to lose that much in 120 minutes,
I could also question his 80 minutes ? did the dude use the addon to see the number of match played and just added 5+5+5 minutes ?
I personally have a terrible experience with the game this season, it's borderline unplayable, smurf are a part, but, the amount of times that server played against me and my mate, going to lag for only one of us, but not everytime the same person, ghost touch, rubberband, fifty going insaly crazy directly in our net.
add to that the amount of people actually scripting, the games when you end up against a champ and a plat in the same game, making it horrendous to understand since one of the two is dogshit, so the play is one time fast and the other time clunky and slow.
it can kill your nerves to end up on the same type of match again and again, and strangely, now everyone knows how to flip reset and do perfect wall drag while being starved to death and with terrible rotations.
I'm not trying to defend the op, but the state of the game is terrible, and we are all just watching it sinks to newer low

Are you a top 100 player? do you run into ddosers and invis players regularly? I have SIXTEEN THOUSAND games played on my profile. Est. 2015. Guess how many blatant cheaters ive ran into? with nexto, invis car bug (which has been in the game for literally years btw its just public now and assuming will be fixed soonish) and ddosers included? zero. none. not one.
The servers have ALWAYS been pretty bad. they're 60hz servers on a comp game where fractions of seconds matter. They're bad at their very core lol. Smurfs are an issue on every comp game to ever exist. Especially in f2p. You can still improve even with the existence of smurfs, bad servers and even hackers. :D
We just got the most impactful update in YEARS since flip resets were added with the whole boost meter icon update, we just got new servers in USC both things ppl have been asking for for 8+ years...There's not much to add to the game, there's not much to change.
But pretending the game is in a bad state when player counts and recent update history say the opposite? Is it the game that's in a bad state or the youtubers who have milked it for all the possible content over 8-9 years and now have literally nothing left to address or be original with?

I'm not top 100, but I don't get why it would matter if I was or not, I'm at thirteen thousand games played and Est. 2016, and I got some, but it's not invisible players or ddosers (I got a few ddos tho, like 4 or 5 last season)
but the cheaters are a real thing, I encourage you to look at "gos loader", it's not blatant obvious cheats, but more like a wallhacking dude in a fps could be, scripting is a real thing and I thought strange that now a lot of average players are doing way better than before and still be at lower rank.
what I mean by that is that I've been hardstuck at c1 for a long time, but I've always been improving, so the stagnation was more because I wasn't going that much in ranked, but this season and the last one my rank sunk because the playerbase is doing crazy shit in a majority of games, like plats tagging whith their friend in champ, but the champ is normal, the plat in the other hand, can double/triple flip reset without sweating, but strangely enough, unable to defend simple balls going straight.

Epic buying out psyonix ruined rocket league
Epic killed the game with their greed.
Instead of lifting the game up, they melted it for as long as possible, while spending minimum effort into releasing new features.
On top of all of that, they removed trading, which made a large percentage of the player base stop playing the game, because they felt betrayed.
Thanks for the update. Take your time on the documentary. Take as long as you need to make it perfect. We’re all excited for it.

What plays in the background, is the legal issues behind penalizing actions like bans and erasing accounts.
When the laws/countries caught up, more actions are possible, and do happen.
If no laws were there, the game server owner can just see who is using artificial input and erase them.
The intricacy thus lays within the legal backgrounds and insufficiency of player database management.
I just a few days ago ran into a bot in ranked 1s for the first time since their original appearance. It didn't play too similar to Nexto, so perhaps Seer, or another bot? Regardless though, after seeing that I wouldn't be surprised to see a resurgence of bots as well. It's actually pretty impressive how many exploits are happening all at once, considering how long it was before the first ones. I tried posting about it on Reddit, including video footage, but it got removed for some nonsensical reason. Makes you question how much they really care, but I guess that's it's entirely own thing.

There's also a way to attach "semi" macros to your controller for many of the more complex moves while not getting banned.
I won't say how here, but it's not the most complicated.
Stalls, mustys, wall dashes, double resets, zap/wave dashes, etc... Have been using similar methods to teach my bot mechs.
All can be contained down to one or 2 button presses, just makes me wonder how many people are using something like this in game.

I got around 4k hours in RL but stopped playing games over a year ago. Now I spend 99% of my time in freeplay oder custom training just messing around with some freestyle shots while listening to audio books. Once a month I play 1 or 2 games but that's it. Really brought back the fun for me.
You know this gets me curious. I'm in D3-C1 MMR and some of my games (very rarely) disconnect exactly like those ddos ones. I wonder if any have been ddos attacks or just the servers actually dying. Regardless, whether it's caused by the hacks or not, the game has been extremely laggy lately. All the streams I watch I see them going through the ball occasionally, clearly getting bumps and not connecting, and it's in my games too. Super frustrating when you have 30 ping and clearly hit the ball but it just goes right through the car. We can only hope they are working on everything that's been falling apart this season.
I'm at c2 and I've seen a lot of people with ssl tournament tags. That's super weird, because they are playing at the same skill level as me.
I absolutely love everything about your videos. From content to editing to scripts. Yours skills in this field are in my humble opinion...... unmatched. i actually experienced win trading a few years ago on twitch. someone was legit just livestreaming themselves doing it
A couple days ago, me and my friend was in the finals of a champ tournament, about to win the first game, when we noticed that one of the other players on the other team had a consistent red 380 ping not moving at all. With around 1 minute left i guess the hacker screwed the coding up ended up doing it on themselves. The match ended but it didn't say they forfeited, it just said it ended like a normal match when the ball touched the ground with 0 seconds. The same thing happened in the second match and we luckily ended up winning. They was also super bad at the game, so we could only guess they made it to the finals using that method. The semi-finals was honestly the real finals here

I haven't played rocket league much lately because of school and other obligations, but it stinks to see a game I love so much fall into the trash and become a cesspool for the worst kind of person out there. I feel bad for those who cheat, because they don't have the skill or resolve to get good, so they resort to ruining the game for everyone. They're not even having fun because being top of the leader board doesn't mean anything when you cheated to get there.

I almost always play with premade (usually with less than 50mmr difference between us) and it always seem funny than you either play against people struggling to hit ball when its not on the ground or against people basically doing mk&jzr combos. For me, boosted teammates are not the problem, but i can only imagine the pain solo queuers feel. The worst part is that theres no straight forward solution for that. Only thing i can think of is somekind of verification, like prime in csgo or actually working level requirements to play competitive.
Surely making Rocket League paid again would somewhat discourage some of the cheaters from just making new accounts

bro the ddosing cheaters happened to me couple days ago in a champ tournament we were tied in OT and all of a sudden server went down and they ended up scoring... shocker. Looked back at the bracket and they ended up winning the whole thing.
A similar situation happened in CSGO in 2022 where hackers were kicking people from servers but were able to remain in themselves making the game automatically win for them. They sent valve servers fake TCP requests on a loop and forced the game's timeout time to go from 25 seconds to 3000 seconds only on their client.
