Gavins article - catholicherald...
Summary
During their recent trip to the US, Katherine Bennett and Gavin Ashenden aimed to convey the message that only Catholicism can meet the needs of the day. They discussed the importance of Catholicism in healing the body of Christ and emphasized the Catholic Church's commitment to the sacredness of the human person. They also highlighted the cultural crisis in the West and the need for Catholics to regain their confidence. The feedback they received from people included requests for mentorship and guidance in living the faith in an increasingly antagonistic society. In this conversation, Gavin and Katherine discuss Jordan Peterson's recent interview with Bishop Robert Barron and analyze his subtle affirmation of Catholicism. They explore Peterson's strategy of maintaining ambiguity about his religious beliefs while emphasizing the importance of the gospels and the struggle between good and evil. They also address the issue of the Catholic Church's credibility in light of the clergy abuse scandal and the need for justice and accountability. The conversation concludes with a discussion on the Catholic Identity Conference and the importance of not being deterred by guilt by association.

The Importance of the Catholic Identity Conference
My family has been Catholic since 496. Thank you for saying all these things because these historical facts are why I still have my faith and why I chose to stand firm in the face of all the attacks against the body of Christ.
What a gift. I'm glad you appreciate your ancestors. Many don't.
Thank you, Lord, for sending us Gavin Ashenden.
Brilliant show, keep the faith of our fathers.
Outstanding episode. Love it when truth is spoken with such clarity. God bless you. Jon
I bumped into this channel a couple of days ago and just can’t get enough of it. Loving every minute of it! Thanks for spreading the word of the Lord.
Gavin's words on Peterson's making salient the reality of an independent spirit of evil in the world I believe are some of the most important Gavin has spoken in all these podcasts.
Coincides with what the Pastor that Tucker Carlson interviewed said - the only way to save us is not through politics, but through turning our country back into a Christian nation. This podcast goes even further - the only the Catholic Church/Faith can save us.
From Canada: thank you 🙏So wonderful to hear you!
You don't become Catholic because who is or isn't the Pope. You become Catholic and stay Catholic because it is the truth. Period.🙂
Thank you Gavin and may God bless you for your loving defense of Holy Mother Church against protestantism.
Call in the exorcists.@@andrew-c1y9b
@@andrew-c1y9b--exactly. The nonCatholics look at the unCatholic pope & think he represents the full Catholic position & they are so disgusted that they cannot bear the idea of becoming Catholic.
@user-sd6yu1xs4g That's the issue I've been struggling with. If the gates of hell can not prevail against the church, how can Pope Francis, what seems not just to me but cardinals and theologians, be teaching error? I've heard Amoris Laetitia isn't binding. I don't know about Feductious Supplican. Unfortunately its all above my pay grade. It would have helped if Pope Francis would have answered the four cardinals dubia concerning Amoris Laetitia.
@@andrew-c1y9b that would prove that the church is false.
@@andrew-c1y9b One example is the "pill", this was a contentious issue in the 60's, everyone including Catholics were pushing for its acceptance into the church, but the church never gave in to the tremendous pressure.
Later science has shown that some "pills" can be abortifacients and it would have been a grave error for the church to have approved it and later rescind it.
Now the church face the same sort of challenges.
Have wanted to be at one of your meetings and it seemed like a divine appointment that I got to St. John Cantius. Was inspiring and blessed to be there.
It is a beautiful Church.
God bless both of you! Keep up the good work! 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you both..Dr Gavin is so full of the Holy Spirit today..I hope you are getting over your Jet lag Catherine..🙏
Keeping you all in my prayers.I share your videos with others .They also love your work.

I enjoyed meeting you in Chicago on Thursday night. I drove 8 hours home on Friday. On the Sunday, I told other Catholic Gentlemen at a neighboring Parish about going to your talk. One of the Gentleman later sent me a link to the Catholic Identity Conference. I will try to go because it will take me less than an hour to drive to see you there.
Wishing you many of God's blessings!😇
@@soniavadnjal7553 GOD Bless you also.
God Bless you two for your wise and insightful commentary! Yours in Christ, -Bob
Thank you. God bless
From Switzerland thanks for interresting dialogue
I appreciate the vigor and clarity of all you share. Thank you Gavin and Margaret. I'll be supporting you shortly. God bless you!
Incidentally, you forgot to mention in your brief history that Irish monks well over a millenium ago recivilised England, Europe and even went as far as Egypt.
To be fair, it *was* a brief history

Well done, great conversation, as usual. Today is the feast of St Mark and may he bless you three and the work you do and as we are catholic (universal) may all of heaven bless the work you do. ;-)
"Stop the homeopathic version of the Catholic Church .."I laughed out loud. Cheeky sod. CC
Think the dreadful response of the bishops, over and over again, drove away more Catholics than the terrible crime itself.
The #1 reason to be Catholic is Apostolic authority. We can trace the Mass and all of the Sacraments and the authority to perform them back to Our Lord and the apostles. The Catholic Church IS the Church of Christ.
The Orthodox and Coptic Churches can make the same statement.
@tishomingo4524 Making a statement doesn't make it true. Orthodox, etc. are NOT the ones really attacked and infiltrated the most, the longest time and the most viciously, like it has been done to the Catholic Church, because these other churches are inconsequential and harmless to Satan's plans and domination.
thank you
Thank you for comments on the extra impact to the USA from worldwide financial and economic systems. Many cannot see that from within the USA. Your perspective from across the pond is one everyone here needs to Hear! Wake up America!! Easter Blessings still from Kentucky. God Bless the USA.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for the new Roman Catholic faith of Mrs. Tammy Peterson. What an example. Thank you for Queenie, too. What a great active disciple she is. Wow!

This Lutheran pastor appreciates all these conversations! I’ve listened to Gavin since he was Anglican. I’m ELCA and grieving how so many leaders have strayed from Biblical truths
Wonderful!!
I am thrilled to hear you will be coming to the Catholic Identity Conference!!!
And when the barman asked JP: "What would you like to drink, sir?" JP replied: "What do you mean by drink?"
Well said. Thank you and God Bless.
I Joined! ❤
I used to live in Chicago. Many faithful Catholics and churches there for many years in the local diocese and government. Much Spiritual Warfare in that diocese now. Lord, bless the Windy City, please. Amen.
Bravo!
Thank you.
Gavin's appraisal of why JP might be holding back from a full public confession of Catholic faith is absolutely on the mark.
BTW, in part because my mother took a risk to her safety in getting me Baptized, I have an appreciation for religious liberty, and I thus am grateful for your stand against anti-Semitism. Many Catholics who were born here in the United States do not have the same appreciate for religious liberty. As for the Catholic Identity Conference, there will arguably be at least 3 or 4 controversial figure there. However, I will try to attend because there will be many more good speakers such as you all from England. As I told Mark Lambert, he is more brilliant than my Parish Preist. I don't stop attending Mass because my Parish Preist is not as brilliant as I would like, so I won't let a few potential controversial figures prevent me from going to the Catholic Identity Conference.
Who is controversial at the 2024 conference? Asking sincerely. Thanks!
@@Antonia_D well, depending on who you ask, that can vary. I actually will not name names myself. A few of the speakers are accused of being in schism. I personally am not offended by the list of speakers, but other local Catholics are.
@@erolhosdil3809 OK thanks. God bless you & yours!
good objective to reconfirm Sanger's greatest obstacle and strengthen it!
Well said.. wish more people would realise and listen to what you are saying. look at St Thomas More.
From Brazil: thank you!
Lest we forget, Jesus Himself was criticized for the company he kept. Never bothered Him in the least.
The company Jesus kept were the repentant sinners who became saints. Not people who declared themselves saints and continued to justify sin.
This is so true and my heart is touched by the passion for the Catholic Church. I hunger for a spiritual director so I turn to Catholic writers such as Nouwen, Jardin and on and on. There exists so much in the literature and the partaking of the flesh of Jesus Christ. I appreciate the French Resistance metaphor but I live my Catholicism and am slowly transformed by it all. I am not an evangelist now but who knows tomorrow.
I'm just reading 'The Faerie Queene' and it's giving me an understanding of how the Protestants at the time saw Catholics, wow!
Could Katherine comment on whether she might write a book about her life and faith? Love the shows.
Katherine has two book projects on the go. One is a series of short stories in the style of Flannery O’Connor, and the other is a contribution to the Catholic Unscripted book which we will share more about soon. Thank you for asking.
🙏 Toward the spotless bride.
Months ago I inquired as to why Gavin hadn’t become a Catholic priest. Now I see why!
Reverts are most often times very Marian or growing quickly in their awareness of Marian devotion impact on the Holy Catholic Church. Blessed Mother of God, ora pro nobis. Amen.
Loved this video ❤
Work while you can because it appears that the hour of darkness is coming, when no one can work.
Yes, I agree with you’re actually saying about Jordan Peterson. He focuses his words toward truth. Truth/God one on the same.
You've made an excellent choice to speak at the Catholic Identity Conference. Unite the clans! :)
With love in Jesus and Mary, from Texas, USA
Funny to think that in other times, actual bishops might have been the ones strategizing with us on how to survive and evangelize, guiding us and consoling us in times of trouble, as you three and many other lay leaders are doing now. Imagine being able to really trust your bishop and have him pulling with you on the same team! I think during & after the upcoming tribulation, we WILL have the bishops with us. God bless y'all. - From trad Catholic in Texas, USA
PLEASE discuss the overwhelmingly obvious “doublespeak & failure to commit” that Jordon Peterson displays.
He makes sense until he doesn’t. Truth is never confusing. I can’t get onboard with him yet.

Excellent video as always. Bit sad I can no longer read your blogs as i cant afford to support you financially. I live in Germany and tithe here.
Does the fact that protestantism in England coincides with the birth of empire [& the city] make it all the more entrenched; and a likely reason for a protracted culture war?
Gavin, they don't want to understand .They are comfortable where they are.
Woo hoo live
I tune in to Dean Robert's garden congregation in the mornings. Yes, he lives in a civic union , but I enjoy the psalms and the scripture readings (even though I don't like the revised language) and Of course I love the animals and the gardens. I attend the TLM exclusively. You have to admit Rev. Robert is a gentle, sincere man and admirable man. I would never convert to Anglicanism, although I have received gentle invites to do so . Nevertheless, Rev. Robert does not harangue and I love his gentle voice. So far I have not heard him say anything anti-Catholic .
Chicago is nearly devoid of catholics, including the bishops and cardinals offices
Excellent discussion🙏
Yes the one true Church is the only hope of salvation🙏
But our weak Prelates need to develop a sense of deep courage inspired by the Holy Ghost to stop the rot of the deep state Church🙏
Pray for all those who have abandoned their vows and vocations- Priesthood, religious life and marriage- to reconcile urgently with God🙏
Totally agree with CIC✅
Christopher Haigh's book "English Reformations" is worth reading.
I think Ronald Knox is an underused resource.
I just listened to a recent podcast at Shameless Popery (Joe Heschmeyer) called "Is the Catholic Church Over?" and he quotes Msgr. Ronald Knox. Worth listening to, as all of his podcasts are.
I looks as if the most important person in the world to convert to Catholicism is Jordan Peterson, but I think that the second most important person is being completely overlooked--Victor Davis Hanson.
You're just wonderderful. I admit I had to look up 'lacunae' since I've hear GA say it more than once. It's a blank space, a gap, a deficiency.
The log in process is still failing though it was fine when I first joined - have changed password but still not working

What's a good book or video for evangelizing Anglicans, to have them read or watch?
Stripping of the altars by Eamon Duffy and the autobiography of a hunted priest are a good start
@@catholicunscripted Thank you so much! I really appreciate the recommendation & your time.
Thanks. I'd suggest that the recent Peterson - Barron encounter also shows that Peterson has a philosophical block concerning affirming a personal, transcendent Creator, which Bp Barron does not engage with-- ua-cam.com/video/97be48vkat4/v-deo.html
It is not as if everything was solid in the Catholic Church until the reformation. The Catholic Church had been corrupted by trends such as voluntarism and nominalism. The magisterial reformers, whatever else you want to say, went back to the metaphysics of the early church. Their doctrine of God was thoroughly orthodox.
The roots of Catholicism go back into societies that were largely populated by peasants in feudal societies which very gradually. emerged as public education became a right for every child and the only way to give people a chance to gain any semblance of equality, prosperity or opportunity.
That education has lately put the church at risk.
Even though it has been greatly instrumental in educating, a great purpose, it appears to have worked itself out of a job, in spite of various attempts it has made to keep its dogma intact necessitating clamping down on thinkers who had made advances beyond the humbler truths it sought to teach, i.e.,people like Galileo.
That was before Progressivism and its LGBTQT + etc. alliance of acolytes made it into the Limelight and the Public school system.
Now, the tables have turned and the humbler truths are being considered dangerous and deleterious to physical and mental growth and progress in the name of the religion ,,blessing us,, with frequent up-dates to truth, as proclaimed by the Opus of Woke and its d.e.i. agenda, to purge us from our dark and sinful past.
Its been like a witch hunt, a confiscation of rights and an inquisition, all rolled into one.
If people resist or speak against it, or are simply loyal to the things they truly believe apply to the truth of the ,,human condition,, well, apparently the witness of anything beyond what happened yesterday on twitter, is now bestforgotten as it is a stumbling block to the d.e.i. path to virtue signaling, i.e., progress at least for political points.
You would think the church, given the great wisdom it is endowed with and is sworn to conserve and pass on, would be able to discern the difference, by now, between progress toward the good, and progress toward winning a popularity contest or populist political points.
If the Church isn't going to stand for at least some contrast between the wider and the narrower path...and stands only for an indeterminate and wider penumbular gray area, maybe they should be handing out rorschach testing before they give out promotions to the prelates.
On sanctity. When a branch is cut off from Christ (living vine, Eucharist) will avail nothing. Likewise, when a person in a state of mortal sin (w/o sacrament of reconciliation), no amount of “piety” can avail salvation; let alone becoming a saint. Be it high or low church, prots need to contemplate hard on John 15:1-6
It is God who saves, my friend, that is for the repentant.🙂
APOSTLE ARISTOBULUS OF THE SEVENTY THE BISHOP OF BRITAIN
Commemorated on March 16
The Holy Apostle Aristobulus of the Seventy was born on Cyprus. He and his brother, the holy Apostle Barnabas of the Seventy, accompanied the holy Apostle Paul on his journeys. Saint Aristobulus is mentioned by the Apostle Paul in the Epistle to the Romans (Rom 16:10).
Saint Paul made Aristobulus a bishop and sent him to preach the Gospel in Britain, AD1 where he converted many to Christ. He endured the torments and malice of the pagans, and eventually baptized them.
Saint Aristobulus died in Britain among the people he had evangelized. His memory is celebrated on October 31 and also on the Synaxis of the Seventy Apostles January 4.
Pope Benedict's father was a policeman.
If you look at the analysis of the clergy abuse the vast majority were post pubescent boys. The abusers were generally homosexuals. Both are heinous but let’s be clear so decisions are made to route out the sinners appropriately.

Sorry Calvin Robinson, you are an open minded, open hearted person, but you have got it wrong!
JP has come to bury the Catholic Church, not to praise it. He races to what he sees as its most vulnerable points, belief in the resurrection, and paedophilia. And bases his tour on these themes. all the while saying 'if only I could believe.
Is that 5# of pennies or 5# of dimes?
Maybe off subject. Hope Unscripted will look into this. Just heard they are asking children at some primary schools on PHSE llessons to tick a box (,choices are: male/female or intersex/or other!!!!!!) Not even gender! and that's bad enough!!but what sex are you?? Intersex is a personal thing for the doctors/person to decide in the future and 'Other' sex what does that mean?? Gender name ok in this woke world maybe!!!but sex!! Don't understand. Bit off subject but maybe for future debate. Thank you Unscripted.
Anglicans lutherians are not interested in ecumrnism.
If Calvin is a good friend, why don't you both discuss this in public, Gavin? That way we can hear both sides of the argument with both of you present.
I'm afraid that Calvin has not read the history of the reformation as a Catholic, but has been educated by Anglican revisionists, and doesn't realise that. I don't want to demean him in public. He doesn't yet know what he doesn't know.
@@DrGAshenden I understand. Thank you for your response.
@@DrGAshenden William Cobbett's 1827, A History of the Protestant Reformation in England and Ireland has been a great eye opener for many Protestants. It has the advantage of being written by a Protestant. Chapter Two opens with: "It was not a "reformation" but a "devastation," of England, which was, at the time when this event took place, the happiest country, perhaps, that the world had ever seen; and it is my chief business to show that this devastation impoverished and degraded the main body of people. But, in order that you may feel a just portion of indignation against the devastators and against their eulogists of the present day, it is necessary, first, that you take a correct view of the things on which their devastating powers were exercised."
Remember the inquisition, the burning of Wycliffe and others and all the wars of the Roman Catholic empire both among themselves etc. very pompous and exclusive
Jesus promised ‘where two or three come together in my name there am I in the midst of them.’ Jesus does not break his promises. I am blessed by the real presence of my Lord when I approach him and receive him at the Holy Communion. Jesus is not just for Catholics but for all who seek him even we ‘ misguided ‘ Anglicans.
Stop being so sectarian
Where is the integrity in your clickbait “Jordan Peterson”
Since Gavin converted his I’m right, you’re wrong attitude has been most off putting. Not everyone wants to be Catholic. The reformation had to happen because of man’s changing consciousness.
“Not everyone wants to be Catholic.” That doesn’t matter- not to you or me. If the Catholic Church is the True Church established by Jesus Christ, someone not wanting to be in it is rejecting Christ’s Church. It’s not about *Gavin*- or anyone- being right, it’s about the Church being true.
Recent Catholic convert from Protestantism, Joshua Charles, gets passionate about things as well (as do Novus Ordo Catholics when they find Catholic tradition). People get upset when they discover they've been taught that 2+2=5 all their lives.
Yep, the dearth of miracles within Protestantism was the reason Cessationist theology was invented. 🤣
Btw didn't he need godparents to enter into the Catholic Church? So... Are his godparents 90 y.o. or something?? Would be kind of awkward to be asking a peer or younger to be one's godfather. We address young priests as fathers despite their age but that's a different matter.
Sorry you are mistaken. Cessationism is connected to Calvinism and it’s position to deny the Apostolic authority of the Catholic Church and to deny the miraculous over the two centuries in the life of the Catholic Church. They now have changed their targets to Pentecostals and charismatics.
Well, whoever promulgated Cessation theology was *not working miracles in their church(es)* otherwise they would have been acting in self-contradiction.
So I'm not mistaken and your reasoning skills leave much to be desired.
There is only one Baptism. He wasn’t baptized when he entered the Catholic Church.
@@bridgetmccarthy4689 In the video he said he was Anglican and he even acted as representative of the Anglican Church in ecumenical gatherings with the other churches. You do not have the facts.
@@bridgetmccarthy4689 Furthermore, even fresh converts to Catholicism are required to be adopted by godparents, so you are wrong on that also.
