The Elephant in the room is a problem nobody wants to talk about or face, but his room is in the Elephant where he is inside his own demons, he is his own problem and he lives inside his problems. Only he can face them. Which at the end he faces his darkness but has apples.. basically feeding his own demons while facing them. Psychological struggles he deals with. That's what I get out of it
His room is in the Elephant... Elephants NEVER FORGET!!! The pain & his condition will never leave or forget that it can get him at any time.

He produces all his own stuff, that is one of the many reasons he is so strong as an artist.
He doesn't produce all his stuff, he has some colabs or he uses some other tracks, but it will say so (usually in the title like retake). I'm pretty sure he colaborated on production with one or two songs on the album he just released. If you hear one of his songs, it is generally safe to assume that he has produced it though.

The instrumental singing version IS Ren, to his core, that's his pocket. He grew up with a lot of HipHop and always wanted to create an album to portray that. For someone who isn't a rapper he's been formidable and I've enjoyed it. He already said his next album will be rock/singing Ren.

Just to understand Ren's producing and mixing skills, when you watch his busking videos and wonder why they sound good is because he spends many brutal, painsaking hours mixing them from the live recordings he captures.

That was hands down my favourite reaction by you. Heretic is such a dope song and Ren’s vocals and lyrics just shine. Your enthusiasm was just how I felt when I first heard it. Loving your reactions! Ren refers to his illness in this song as enormous. He calls it "this Goliath". I believe that "my room is in the elephant" refers to his illness keeping him in his room 23 hours a day, the elephant, like "this Goliath" is the illness itself. His room (the place he inhabits as nearly a prisoner) is surrounded by his disease.
I love that you found this track now and not earlier within your Ren journey. I will always come back to Heretic with new and greater appreciation for his creativity, musicality and spirit.

Ren makes his stuff he does the mixing and he also makes beats
Animal flow and some recent songs were mixed and mastered by frederik moller, not to say Ren has not done mixing himself because he has including production.

Yes he produces, mixes, masters, and if it's real instruments, he's playing that too. He said that he uses Dr Dre's 2001 as a base reference when he's mastering his music.
If you like this version of Ren, he said his next album is going to be completely like this. All organic instruments, all singing, very little to no rapping, and very classic sounding. He said his goal is to make a "timeless" album. If you listen to it 50 years from now, the lyrics will still be relevant, and you wouldn't know which era of music it came from.

If you wanna listen to one of Ren's more "punky" sorts of songs I can highly reccommend "fire".
He started producing at age 12. 1st wanted to be a d&b producer.

Sickbay is cool but Demos 1/2 and Freckled Angels are my favorite Ren styles...especially since he still some what raps on those songs or in certain segments of a song, so you kinda get the Rapper Ren with the musical singing stuff

I really think the elephant line is referring to the “missing millions” group. Those with ME (which was a misdiagnosis originally but he did suffer chronic fatigue) and other chronic illnesses that keep them bed bound.
Like, we don’t talk about some of these groups because we don’t talk about what we don’t see, and we don’t seek out the chronically ill. It’s harder for them to advocate for themselves as well.
Absolutely this, especially given the place he was in his life at this time. Invisible Illnesses have dogged him all his life (Depression, ADHD - not an illness but a hidden difference that led to some issues for him - as well sc the M.E, dysautonomia, Lyme...)
Susan here. Ren's song "Patience" encouraged me to be part of the first "MIllionsMissing " protest. It was wonderful to see Unrest and hear "Patience" being played alongside the images of shoes with notes that represented people with ME who were missing from their lives, from all different parts of the world. The film Unrest won lots of awards and is a great documentary and also a love story that brought the audience in behind the closed doors.

When you are bedbound your room literally is the elephant in the room especially when doctors tell you your tests are all normal and they don't think there is anything wrong with your body. Love what you said about words and patterns and relating this back to your skateboarding experience.

Ren started as a producer (drum&beat), only started to sing and perform bc he could not find a rap singer in his part of Wales... He was 12 yo.
He doesn’t produce all his own tracks, but most. He produced this one from what I can find
ren produces all his own stuff and makes his own beats and mixes too

I watched "The Professor and a mad man" last night which is about the creation of the Oxford dictionary. There are some wonderful things said in this film about the importance of words. Great poem thanks for sharing this here.
Even Ren says this latest hip hop album is outside of his comfort zone and he did it to prove he could. He considers himself a singer and is going back to it. I pretty much love everything he does but I like his hip hop/rap because it's different and I'd never heard anything like it before. I've never disliked hip hop but a lot of it I have a hard time connecting to for various reasons but I can connect to his lyrics/music no matter what style it is. You're an interesting dude, Kso, and I've come to really look forward to your reactions and commentary.

My best guess would be that since “ the elephant “ refers to the problem-(in his case I’m assuming his physical and mental health,) and he is saying thats where he lives-he can’t ignore it even he wanted to …because he’s inside of it?
Like both singing and rap, but if I had to choose, I would choose his singing
He's got me back into rap which is some of the highest praise I personally can give him because I lost interest in it almost 20 years ago. But I do prefer his older stuff, looking forward to him leaning back towards this style in the future.
How can you loose interest in hip hop 20 years ago when MF DOOM, Atmophere, and Aesop Rock have been releasing music during that time and still are, sadly apart from DOOM of course. Rip metal face! But yes, Ren also made me excited about hiphop in a new way ❤

im a big fan of Ren,s more punk derived songs than any , what can i say i love punk done proper , i do like his singing voice and with his talent as a master musician i hope to see more of it , it shows his talent off more ,
He produces about 90%(ish) of his own stuff, his words from one of the interviews. "My room is in the elephant" i see as a play on u always see the elephant in the room but the room he was stuck in for years meant nobody saw him.

Correct about words. The world is consciousness, frequency and vibration with a miniscule amount of matter by comparison. Words are vibration and frequency powered by consciousness and intention i.e. they are so much more powerful than people understand. You are spot on.

I love all his style but this sound is more of what I knew him from before Hi Ren blew him up every where... heard Jenny's tale and got the Demo tapes and Freckled Angel albums on my UA-cam music rotation. This is one of the major ones I been waiting for you to react to.
I think I like Ren's reggae style best. To me Murderer live in the US is one of his tippy top performances. Yet I also put Genesis & Hunger up there. Those both live are dope!

“The elephant in the room.” The elephant is the avoidance. So if his room is in the elephant, he’s avoiding dealing with the fact that he lives inside the avoidance. That was my take, and I’m still not sure it makes it any more clear.
The elephant in the room for Ren is his health problems. But they are so fkn huge his room is in the elephant.
I think the "Elephant in the room.." bar meant the saying "The elephant in the room" means there is an obvious issue that everyone knows is there but doesn't want to address. If his room is inside the "elephant" then everything going on in his life is the issue that he, and everyone sees, but it's so big he feels consumed by it(aka "inside the elephant") and doesn't know how to address it or even know where to start. That is just how I kinda took it..🤷♂️
The only thing I can thing of his elephant metaphore is that the problems are inescapable.

Not that you will read this, but I'll flop it out there - The Elephant is a metaphor for the Universe. When Buddhists see the whole Elephant they are said to have become enlightened. It comes from a parable of the three blind men who encounter the Elephant: The first feels his trunk and says an Elephant is a great serpent. The 2nd feels the side and claims that the Elephant is a great plain of wrinkled skin.... etc. The blind men come to blows since each has had a true glimpse of the Universe. Each suspects the other is lying.
Ren saying troubles seeing the Elephant in the room is that his room in the Elephant is a statement that the reason he cannot see the Universe is because he is totally immersed in the Universe. An age old question - Does the set of all sets include the set of all sets? Does the Universe entirely enclose the Universe?
