Loving this game Potato. This is about the level of my starts so I'm learning a lot about how to handle less than ideal terrain. Too many streamers only play god starts and the novelty has worn off for me. I want to learn more about strategies to use in my own games. You're delivering. Thank you!
I love the sheep settle, it gives you a 2 food 3 production captial tile and i just imagine a little sheep paddock smack in the middle of a city its kinda cute lol
Fun History fact- that rumor of... loving on sheep (ahem), started because sheep thieves would say that's what they had been doing, because it carried a lesser sentence/punishment than stealing the sheep.
@@Palitato Didn't that change wildly for a time? I clearly remember a story from QI where a man accused for "laying with a pig" got a death sentence along with the pig.

Having someone declare war on you to capture your land only for you to use an uno reverse card and take all their cities instead is always so satisfying! Less grievances too
Nice to see you play one where you have what I would call an average start location. Always felt like you were playing a different game in your videos since you typically have great to legendary level start locations.
I think it is also a case of knowing how to spot the good part of what you spawned in. Most of the time if he talks on his early game plan he sees all kinds of usable things in the terrain that I missed.
“One of my worst starts” by turn 100 he has: - A religion on deity - Almost detroyed a civ - Mega productive capital - Nice army, economy and vampires Dude I have like monuments and a couple of archers on deity...
Funny enough, I've only ever had one game where the computer declared a surprise war on me and it was Kupe of all people. If that one settler hadnt managed to make it to open ocean and get to the second continent man would have just been a funny little footnote of The Empire's timeline.
"i need to get these campus online" " once this industrial zone then the aqueduct and the holy site its straight to campus" lmao and that campus is 2 tiles away
Doubt you’ll see this before you play, but if you switch the commercial hub and industrial zone in Montrose, you can place the aqueduct across the river to give +2 to the IZ to make it a +4 (two adjacent districts and the quarry). The commercial hub would +4 as well with four adjacent districts and the river.
You can't build a vampire castle on a title with a feature (forest, swamp, rainforest, etc), so you get an extra charge (2 total) so you can use one charge to remove the feature and the second charge to build the castle.
Scotland spawned in the same spot last time I played this map and the AI struggled really badly the whole game. If I hadn't been playing Mali and using them as a trade partner I probably would have wiped them out. Pretty sure they only survived the game because they're hard to get to.
This is a big ouch game for Scotland. Their happiness great people point boost is *amazing* for snowballing an early campus spam build, but that never happened here
Tbh if you throw a harbour into Montrose you can put an aqueduct in there fine. You don't get the extra trade route but loads of housing and coast yields and might even be able to snipe the mausoleum
Not plonking down the two Vampire Castle asap is a mistake. Get them down, get whatever yields you can NOW, then remove them and place them down again when the surrounding tiles have been improved.
It will be interesting to see if you can pull off a Deity win with both a below average starting position and below average civ. I rate Secret Societies Mode about a half point easier than without (i.e., Deity with SS mode is about midway between vanilla Deity and vanilla Immortal), but still.
Question (kind of a small potatoes one...) at 0:16 we see the Scotland settler view where the loyalty penalties from Khmer are -20 and extend six tiles from Khmer's border (and only two tiles away from Aberdeen!) - is that standard for all civs or just some civs - is that a culture bomb effect or how does that work? Where can I read up on this topic? And I just picked up Stellaris and added some DLC yesterday - I'm glad you have Stellaris videos. Thanks!
Hey Potato! I love to see your Videos and you are doing great. But I have a question: Could you make a guide for the Secret Societies? I dont really get along with those. I can play with them, but especially the Vampires and the Voidsingers are strange for me. I dont really get how far I can go with them and what I could do with them. It would be great! Thanks
When you were trading for luxuries you bought an extra copy you didn’t need. If you try and go into the resources panel, it will tell you whether you have an item already.
You can rebuild the vampire castles in the same spot without using any charge. So it’s ok to put the castle down and then when you build it up you can rebuild the castle in the same spot.
May I make a suggestion. Play as Brazil on a Huge Earth map true start location. If the Amazon Rainforest burns down: Food & Production galore. *Note: Don’t expect to actually burn down the Amazon Rainforest irl.*
A small min/max thing I've learned with Vampire Castles is that when you're improving the tiles around the desired location (starting on turn 90 for this vid), it's actually best to place a slightly worse castle when the tiles are being improved, and then once they're all upgraded you move the builder onto the weak castle to remove the castle and have the vampire immediately replace it with a newer castle to get all the yields from the castle (in this case, since it was upgraded on turn 97, it'd be 7 turns of yields) on the same turn, while also getting those 7 turns of yields as well. Of course, if your builder and vampire are in high demand having them locked down for that extra turn might not be good, but I feel those bonus yields more than make up for it.
I can't find the bit in your videos, but I've seen an extended tooltips thing when you hover over the districts on your city production list, shows all the adjacency bonuses etc. is that right? how can we do that? thanks!
So, if you control a city state, could you build vampire castles in the city state's territory? Would be helpful for a one city challenge if you could.
The title reminds me of my first science game, I played as Rome and Saladin declared war on me, so I marched my troops over, took over a random city and Cairo, and accepted peace. the fucker teamed up with Tomyris to declare a military emergency on me to take Cairo back, so I completely wiped Saladin off the face of the earth, and did the same to Tomyris later.
