Great video. Easy to understand. Made it possible for me to change the battery in my wife's watch and thus further cementing our relationship of over 53 years of marital bliss.
Thank you for the awesome feedback. May you enjoy your watch for many more years to come!
I watched this video & it makes it look so easy to remove & snap the back of watch back on - it is NOT! I had a great deal of difficulty opening the back of my small watch. After placing battery in I & 2 other people were unable to snap that case back on to the watch at all - not as is shown being done so easily, by hand, in the video - will have to seek professional help to close case! Beware, it's not that easy!
There are vintage Timex models that can be closed with bare hands, and modern ones that need a watch press as shown in the video. We have mentioned and shown the watch press at 2:10 in the video.
@@vintageradar Are there any other improvised tools that would be a substitute with minimal risk of damage? e.g. if I have a hobby vise with rubber jaws I will have more than enough leverage but will not have the circumferential contact that your press has.
@@Avram42 There are many options but you can get your watch damaged (break the crystal). The watch press is under $20 on amazon, so if you have more watches it could be a good investment. Here is a link: amzn.to/3p8XM72
I improvised by using a soft, flexible glass case to encase the watch before applying pressure with a pair of pliers.
@@1969citadelcould you provide a pic of that operation?
Thanks!
You are welcome!
That's not what he said. He said, SOME need the press.
The battery numbers such as CR2016 have meanings. The CR2016 is 20 mm in diameter and 1.6 mm in height.
These are the only ones I am sure of.
Yes, that is the case with most if not all watch batteries.
@@vintageradar Yea, the idiot in the other video didn't bother to tell us that it's the CR 2016 and NOT CR1216 in men's indiglo. Great job, Gary
@@gregwinter1081 I am glad this was helpful. I hope you can replace it now.
Thanks again!
You are welcome! Enjoy your watch!
Had I known how difficult (impossible, that is) to replace the metal cap back onto the watch after having replaced the battery, I would have chosen a model with screws. As such, I now must purchase a special press in order to replace the metal backing? I have had good luck with the accuracy of the Timex watches in the past, and had no idea when I purchased the watch that it would also involve spending more money on a press, merely to replace the metal "cap" on the back of the watch. It might be more simple to just purchase another watch, but with small screws that can be removed and replaced with a screwdriver I use for adjusting my eyeglasses.
The design of Timex's screwless backing plate is a black eye for Timex, and the design team should be fired!
Once you get the swing of snap-off back, you will be able to replace the batteries easily.
Last time I buy a Timex. It's loud, loses about a minute every week, blows through the battery and you can't get the back on or off yourself. Quite a lot to go wrong for something so small 😕
I understand. I have heard many people complain. Some like them a lot.
GREAT video!
My Indiglo light went out. Turned out to be gunk buildup under the stem button. Works perfectly again.
Boy, you weren't kidding when you said that the back can't be reseated by hand.
Question. Is there anything around the house that I can use to substitute the press?
I assume it must be something that applies pressure evenly.
I rigged something to brace the face rim against without touching the glass.
I placed a small wooden block against the back and hit it with a hammer. That didn't work.
hmmm.... I have a vice.
Any thoughts?
My whole point was avoiding the cost of repair. What a drag.
I am glad to hear it helped. I would recommend buying a watch press: amzn.to/3leMvQC
It is a great investment as I would say 60-80% of the watches actually need the press.
Yuk....wish I had seen this earlier as I just shattered my glass on one - the other one presses fine with my my thumbs - the third one will try your way and hope it works....but u did n't say the most important thing - there is a small "v" on the case which has to align with the wheel for changing the Time and Date? Cheers from Canada...
No luck - tried the Baby Oil trick too - maybe the Roots watch back is twisted? Haven n't used the broken and Roots for 30 years now...
I hope you can manage to do it. If not, try at a local watchmaker, maybe that will be actually cheaper.
I love cr 2032 watches. In Brazil you can buy cr 2032 everywhere however few models accept cr 2032.
I believe there are some digital timex watches that use the 2032
@@vintageradar yes I own the Casio AE 1500 and a Xufeng with the CR 2032
@@mariojr377 I love the Casio AE 1500, not familiar with the 2nd one.
@@vintageradar the second is an extremely cheap chinese watch, Model SH-797. Very cheap indeed.
Xufeng SH-797
What tools is he using? What kind of knife is that? What is that tool with the yellow round pieces? I spent several hours in a week trying to get the back snapped back on this Timex wristwatch. I ended up ordering a new one 4 years ago. Time for a new one now, I guess.

In US, I recommend Harbor Freight for inexpensive watch repair tools. Surprising for sure.
@@idaleung8003 I have bought more basic watchmaker tools kits and they are great for basic stuff.

I am glad nothing broke.@@1969citadel
