  • By the time he was 13 years old, Tommy had already built his first computer from scratch. He learned more about IT at Miami Valley Career Technology Center and on his first jobs out of high school, discovering that training and certification courses were the best pathway for his career goals.

"Hey, this place hired me with absolutely no experience. Why can't you do it too?"

My route is a bit different. I started with a bachelor's in Computer Science and I recently received my Masters in Computer Network and System Administration. The only problem is that my Master's degree is more computer science based meaning that it deals more with the programming side of things. I don't have a lot of hands-on experience except for working 5 months with the Systems group at my college.

I have a bachelor's degree in management information systems. I have been struggling to find work as i have no real life experience except for the textbooks i read throughout my career, I am very eager to get my feet wet in the tech industry. where to I start? I am currently taking a google IT fundamentals certificate for help desk positions, but I am not sure if I am doing this correctly. I know for a fact that this field is VAST, and I also know that I would dread to program, as I am much more hands on and more of a soft skill person. Any advice? Thanks!

Yea so depending on where you live you want to find a help desk position for a smaller company requiring you to do more. Be eager! I am only 25 but since 18 yrs old I have had great success at walking up to jobs with resume in hand and just asking for an interview. It is so hard for business to find good help so if you see a position locally that you are interested in. Attack it! Building up your LinkedIn profile is also very helpful for IT! Good Luck!

Jealous. I have my CCNA and my JNCIA, and my NET+ and i cant even get a call back for a network admin position. Applied to 1000+ places with 3 different resumes. No luck anywhere. I see people on youtube getting network admin jobs without any worthy certifications. blows my mind

@@Aaron14LifeZZZ He said he can't get a call back so most likely his resume is the issue.
