Network Admin Life - Introduction

  • Hello anyone!
    Welcome to my new channel! I'll be talking about what it's really like to be a network administrator and also documenting my journey into retirement.
    There's not going to be anything fancy about this channel, no fancy graphics, intros or outros, no Amazon affiliate links, no special content for Patreon subscribers. Just a regular guy talking about regular stuff. We'll talk tech, problems, politics, and most definitely religion. It's just really my take on work and life.
    Be civil in your comments. Uncivil comments will be deleted without remorse. I decide what is civil. Slightly ruthless I know but hey, it is my channel after all.

    I came in wondering what a network admin did, and ended up praising God. I’ve just started my IT career but it was definitely God that open all the doors for me. God bless brother!

    Well I know it was the Lord that had me watch your video brother! I am a 62 year old security guard at Martin Army Hospital at Fort Benning, GA. I am in grad school to get a degree in Information Systems Management. I took 2 courses so far and did very well. I plan on taking Googles' IT Professional Certification program later this month. After retiring from the Army and the local police dept, I really wanted to get back into something more technical and analytical. So the Lord led me to information technology in Oct 2019! So, I know that I am on the right track and watching your video brought a tear to my eyes because of Gods' confirmation on His choice for me; even at my age! Never too old for God! Friend moved to Utah to live in a residential airport and my faith got hammered out of me by working for a church for far too long and seeing too much "inside baseball". You are so welcome! Yes God has ordained your place in this world long before He even laid the foundations of the universe. You can trust that He will guide you along your journey. It may not feel like it at times, He wants us to learn to trust in him. Strike out in faith and once you arrive, you will see the twists and turns in the road where God guided (and protected) you. God bless!

      Thank you that's very kind of you to say. Check through my videos I do believe I talked about it. Basically I just mount my switches between the patch panels and then use short 1 foot cables from the patch panel to the switch. The end result is what you see in the video. God bless!

      @@NetworkAdminLife I meant to say you sound a lot like me in that you hope this job is your "last" job. I feel the same way about my current position. I'm so happy there and couldn't have asked for a better situation. Coulda made more money elsewhere but I went to the place I felt I belonged. Also, I'm not a pilot but love to fly. Been up in a 172 several times and got to take the controls. So much fun!

    Just found your channel Scott; love hearing your story. Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior as well. I'm 57, and just graduated with a two-year degree in IT as a career change from many years as a printer and a truck driver. Looking for my first job, and trying to learn all I can. Looks like the hospital has a lot going on. While I don't live around there now, I was born near Fresno. Lived for a few years as a youngster in Kingsburg. Glad you built this channel!

    I was thinking of going into this field. I'm grateful that you shared this information. Why so many wires/cables?

    • @NetworkAdminLife
      @NetworkAdminLife  4 роки тому +9

      Each wire corresponds to a device on the "wired" network. We have thousands of devices on our network where I work. This includes the wireless access points which can have 30 or 40 wireless clients attached to them. Luckily you don't have to know what each wire does all the time. Label the ports and label the wires and then it's easy to figure out from there. Best of luck on your decision!
