- As you might have noticed I haven’t been riding my Velobuild McLaren much lately. In this video I explain why and also review this bicycle after its first 2500 Km or 1500 miles.
I am not endorsed by Velobuild, so my comments come from a normal customer point of view.
I am however supported by Siroko Cycling and I’m happy to offer a further 10% discount on top of their already discounted prices! Just follow my link and prices will be automatically reduced, without the need for further codes. I’m 185cm tall, 86Kg and in this video I’m wearing an M4 jersey and bib tights in size L.

Thank you for watching,
Federico
I’m very interested to see the outcome of this project ✊🏾👊🏾
Interesting. Looking forward to hearing how the new frame feels. When I got back into cycling. I bought a preowned 53cm frame. Fairly soon realised as I get older, I’m losing height. Swopped for a 51cm which was perfect and made a huge difference in comfort. We learn as we go. That’s half the fun.
I have just had my second-hand, little used, Bianchi Specialissima frame in custom orange colour custom build completed!
I bought it originally complete with Dura-Ace, ENVE wheels, etc, but don't have Shima(NO!) on any of my bikes, so sold all the bits on eBay,
in a quick time, too!
I got deal with bike shop for him to fit my Campagnolo Super Record EPS, ENVE cockpit, Hyperon Two Ultra tubular wheels, etc!
He had help with a GCN mechanic friend, as he had an accident on his bike, which busted his shoulder, etc.
He said it was a pain to fit, as cable holes are really for Shima(NO!), so had to micro file holes for cables to fit!
It look's awesome in the orange paint, Campagnolo Super Record EPS, & carbon bling!!!
Wow, must be really amazing!!
I think you've made the right decision Federico! Same here, according to the charts I need a 56, but a 54 suits me better. Nice, low and compact.
Hope so!
I think you made the right decision to go for a size smaller, always the best thing to do when the adjustments seem excessive.
Yes, it should work better!
The biggest headache you face for this new ride is choosing the colourway. Cant wait🤟
😄👍
Looking forward to the aero vs lightweight bike vid. Yes Cycling Tom has some great custom paint jobs on some of his bikes. I like a steeper seat tube and a shorter e.t.t with a longer stem due to my short torso and long arms. Often I find even on a zero setback seatpost I put my saddle forward. For this reason I've been thinking I perhaps I should try a smaller size than I usually ride( a 56cm) so am interested in how you find the smaller sized frame. Cheers.
Hopefully soon!
Looking forward to seeing the new frame Fede!
Might take a while to build 😅
Fed, I run 2 sizes smaller than the fit on my aero bike with a 130mm stem, and feels great, that’s the way! About the velo build as a Brazillian I love that theme, talks a lot with me, I was wondering to make the same with my fixed gear bike.
You definitely should!
I ride a size down and it’s a lot better personally. It feels like you’re sitting on top of the bike rather then in the bike. If that makes sense haha
I can't wait to see the new ultra mega super lightweight fast bike😂.. seriously, I think it will be awesome and wish you the very best 👍🚴 ciao Federico 🙂
Thank you, I'm very excited!
Well done Fede I knew something was up and glad that your editorial team finished the video for you ! 😂however i didn’t expect you to buy the same frame , you’re a serial offender though 2 x canyon Ultimate now 2 x Velobuild 😂😂😂😂. Absolutely fair Play to you as you love the frame etc clearly . I think silver paint work would work well and wouldn’t clash too much with all the different colour cycling apparel that you wear .
As for the silver paint work I’d keep it really simple. Definitely silver Mercedes Arrows DTM German touring car style . One other note I thought I’d mention but I’m sure you’ve thought about that already is the toe over lap that you might experience when turning the bars . Just hope for your sake that this one doesn’t give you the agro that the 1st velobuild did. Have a fantastic weekend
Thank you! It might sound silly, but I chose silver also because it's easier to wear different kit colours 😂
I try to be conscious of toe overlap, I'm at the limit with both bikes as I like rear placed cleats. If it's the case I'll try to manage it.
You will use what you learned from last time and it will be more gratifying to build up the bike.
Fingers crossed 😄
Would be cool to do a self custom paint job on your new frame.
You are definitely an expert in that! Great work on your commuter bike
Curious to see how it will fit you. Look like it will be quite aggressive with a 14 cm stem (I assume), and its 3 cm lower, hope you can manage it. This geometry will be like what the pro riders are using! Speed on the flat will be big if your back can handle it. !
I believe I'll be able to manage, I bought a 13cm stem. It's not going to be a grand fondo definitely!
For anyone who has a groupset and wheels, buy these cheap frames would be very tempting. But are they any good? Heard so many mixed reviews.
All things considered I am really happy!
I have the same problem with my Pinarello Gan. The seat forward as much as possible and it's still a little too slack imo. Sadly I couldn't get a size down as that size was sold out the day before... First world problems am I right
Yes, and sometimes it's not possible to get seatposts with no set back
The bike quiver... I have multiple bikes and I keep telling myself well in this case I'll use that one or someone will barrow one but what ends up happening is I always ride my newest couple bikes and the rest collect dust and take up space and I'll hold onto them for another 10 years and won't ride them, I guess I'm a bike hoarder 😂 maybe someday I ride one around the block again to make myself feel better about keeping them haha
And then you will ask yourself why you have not been riding them 😂
❤
Mercedes or Auto Union next??
Or maybe MV Augusta
I was thinking Sauber Mercedes, but MV would have been great!
Change to zero setback seat post, if it's available, will solve the problem. Btw, it's not true that lower carbon modulus, even if it's more flexible, will be more comfortable. I have my own experience, comparing my ultimate CF SL, which is a basic carbon frame, to my Look 795 Blade RS, which is made from ultra high modulus carbon. Even if Look is pure aero and very stiff frame, it is extremely comfortable, way more than Ultimate. I also compared both with the same wheels and tires.
Interesting, this might be down to Look unique construction. There is an interesting video on GCN where Si compares SLX and CFR Aeroads
@@fede1275 I think CFR models from Canyon are more compliant than basic SL, but I never ridden it. However, I've tried my buddy's Bianchi oltre xr4, which is also pure aero and very stiff frame, and it's comparably compliant to my Look in terms of cancelling high frequency road buzz 👍👌
RIP Marlboro.
Better not to smoke, I never did 😂
I'm surprised you didn't spring for the "not F" frame but perhaps having a copy of such a storied Italian brand would be a little too blasphemous
Exactly that. I'm waiting for that Pinarello endorsement 😂
I get the smallest frame I can possibly fit on. Less weight Lighter. Faster. LoL.
isnt more fair to call it a marlboro color scheme?
Not anymore 😄
You clearly bought the wrong size frame as you have finally realized. No way are you a 58 in any frame. Good Luck!
Maybe, but I think I'm really in between sizes as I'm bang on with my Ultimate L. I could have lived with the 58, but I like a more forward riding position.
Quanto sei alto
1.85m, ma mi sto accorciando...
😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Are you going to complete the build this time? Safely?🤔🫰
I'll try to put it together, I hope to use less help than before
