Strawhats have no ranking and no Vice captain. They are all friends working to achieve their dreams especially Luffy's dream. The strawhats are together because of Luffy. If anything happens to Luffy they disband
Zoro is vice-captain for this very reason. No one and I mean *No One* has ever spoken to Luffy about this in him upholding his responsibility as a Captain on the crew. There are times when the crew admonishes Luffy's actions or decisions but Zoro is one who seldom ever does. "He may be an idiot but he is still our Captain". That is a perfect summarization of why people say he's the second-in-command. He understands the respect needed to be given to Luffy and when *Sanji* co-signs, you know that these are words and decisions to be taken seriously. And let's also not forget this, Luffy and Zoro are members of the Worst Generation of Pirates, meaning these two are more contemporaries who are the same crew, same as Kidd and Killer. There is a level of "equality", to a degree, shared between the two because they are recognized as one of the 12 new leading pirates of this current era. That is not to be ignored or discounted. Grandlinereview has a great video better explaining the relationship these two share and why so many have come to view Zoro as the vice-captain even if he was never verbally acknowledged as one.

Many tend to forget that Sanji used to be a Vice Captain, somewhat. He was the Sous Chef at the Baratie, meaning he understands what it means to exercise authority as the 2nd in command of a crew. Him agreeing with Zoro about Usopp needing to apologize is the way of the seas whether you are Pirate crew, a Navy crew, or even a bunch of sea cooks. You can't disrespect your captain, leave the crew, and then expect to simply be greeted back into the group with open arms.

I don't think it matters if Zoro is an official vice captain. There are things you could interpret as him having a leading role in the crew as needed. But I do think it's vital to note that despite some crewmates disagreeing with his attitude on this, nobody actively overruled or ignored him. And I'm sure people outside the crew might interpret only Luffy and Zoro being among the Supernovas to mean something. I know I did. All these comments are even more proof that people see him a certain kind of way. And Luffy respected Zoro's stance enough to where he didn't want to risk Zoro leaving over this. So if they never name a vice captain, it absolutely won't matter, because Zoro established himself as an authority figure to the point where some will always see him that way. And that's not even a bad thing, he was totally right about Usopp.
Others were disagreeing based on their emotions, nami and chopper didn't realise the gravity of the blunder usopp had done. They can disagree all they want but they can't prove him wrong. So they went silent as soon as zoro raised his voice.

Zoro then inspired Brogy and tried off cutting his own legs so he could crush Mr. 3. • When Zoro tried to use the Sea Prism Stone on Enel so he and the others can at least have a fighting chance against him. • Zoro telling Ussop that they can't afford to get careless from now on, and then tells Luffy to take things seriously because the New World will continue to get tougher. • "Nothing happened."

But I do think it's vital to note that despite some crewmates disagreeing with his attitude on this, nobody actively overruled or ignored him. And I'm sure people outside the crew might interpret only Luffy and Zoro being among the Supernovas to mean something. I know I did. All these comments are even more proof that people see him a certain kind of way. And Luffy respected Zoro's stance enough to where he didn't want to risk Zoro leaving over this.
So if they never name a vice captain, it absolutely won't matter, because Zoro established himself as an authority figure to the point where some will always see him that way. And that's not even a bad thing, he was totally right about Usopp.
Others were disagreeing based on their emotions, nami and chopper didn't realise the gravity of the blunder usopp had done. They can disagree all they want but they can't prove him wrong. So they went silent as soon as zoro raised his voice.
I'm seeing a lot of people here who are against calling Zoro as the vice-captain, and I'm aware that his position on the crew as vice-captain is unofficial. But in all honesty, it's really not out of the ordinary to refer to him as such. Zoro respects Luffy more than anyone else on the crew, views him as the only man above him and is always training hard more than anyone to help Luffy achieve his dream of becoming King of the Pirates.
He's pretty much the "big brother" of the crew whom everyone else turns to and expects to step up whenever Luffy is absent, or is being unreliable. Examples of this are when:
• He didn't fall for the warm welcome on Cactus Island and was the first to realize that something shady was going on. He pretended to be drunk, and upon discovering that everyone on the island worked for Baroque Works, he fought all of them head-on and won.
• Fought an enraged Luffy in an attempt to explain to him that everyone on Cactus Island were enemies.
• Nami was begging him to free them from Mr. 3's Candle Service Set. Zoro then inspired Brogy and tried off cutting his own legs so he could crush Mr. 3.
• When Zoro tried to use the Sea Prism Stone on Enel so he and the others can at least have
a fighting chance against him.
• Zoro telling Ussop that they can't afford to get careless from now on, and then tells Luffy to take things seriously because the New World will continue to get tougher.
• "Nothing happened."

But sanji did apologized do you still think zoro is holding grudge against usopp till this day. Any duels accepted by mens should not be interrupted by other men. Luffy got the higher authority by being a captain so sanji as his member after duel apologized. So even if zoro knows he won't do anything talking about luffy didn't hit it's luffy decision whether to hit usopp or to not. Usopp being selfish luffy handled the situation by hitting. Sanji was doing for his crew luffy did handle the situation by a duel with getting hurt . Duels of mens are like this we should never complain and accept it cause they are always for betterment.

At first I was like "Ok cool he's rehearsing because he really cares." Then I saw the disrespectful ass shit he was planning to say to the Strawhats' faces about making him Vice Captain, and I immediately retracted my thoughts. He really challenged the Captain to a duel, lost, and had the audacity to think that they would immediately take him back, and even beg him to come back, and that he could extort them into getting what he wanted instead taking responsibility and apologizing. If the Strawhats weren't already leaving, I guarantee you he would have tried that shit, and botched his entire chance of coming back, all becausehe didn't want to take accountabilityfor his actions and instead try to manipulate his so-called friends. It's only after he thinks it's too late does he finally learn. This behavior is exactly why I dislike Usopp as a character.

well, he wasnt doing that because hi's loyality with Luffy, it was because of Robin. what he did was trully dangerous as a member of a gang, hi's actions could've put the gang in a worst situation and his punnishment to ask for forgiveness was necessary and super important due to the situation and for his character dev.
