@arcticbeat In my video for the song Legacy there is a link at the end of the description for the guy who did the graphics work, he is the same guy who did my intro. He's very good :)
It's just an overall better monitor in my opinion. It's more truthfull in the lows and low mids than the alesis mkll, also you can hear the lower ranges better just because the krk rokit 8 g2 has 8 inch subs where the alesis mkll only have 6 inch subs. I think they are both about the same on mid and high range quality and clarity. So if you have the money I would go with the rokit 8's instead.
Sorry for the re-upload btw, had some issues with publishing on the last time I uploaded it, and I'm having publishing issues this time too but I'm not going to re-upload again lol. If you want to hear a preview to my new unreleased electro house track "Throw Down" check out 8:20
@TheFireball100 On your audio interface there should be a TRS 1/4 inch jack line out. TRS 1/4 inch jack is like the size of a guitar to amp cable and the TRS means it is stereo (left and right signal). Out of that jack you will need to plug in a Y cable, that goes from one 1/4 TRS to two 1/4 TS. Then plug the two out 1/4 TS into the back of your speakers (one each). And run your setup as usual and that should do it!
You can get RCA to 1/4 TS male plugin adapter cables then. Run the 1/4 TS cables from the back of the monitors to the RCA on your Tascam and just route your audio on your DAW out your Tascam. Should do it :)
Great video, really informative. I love finding such passionate and personal reviews of products because I know I am getting educated personal feedback. I am considering getting these as introductory studio monitors. Cheers.
Hey Tyler, great review. I am monitor shopping and certainly don't want to be cheap in this area when it comes to hearing the music I'm recording. What did you upgrade your monitors to from these? What is the next step up in your own personal opinion? Thanks
i had da krk 5 but they were so much bass it was hard to mix but im looking to get sumthing that will give me good highs with good lows will these be great?
Just about EVERY monitor you buy will be coloured until you start getting insane with money lol. People may say some of the cheaper ones aren't but I really don't think so at all.
he already said he bought a y cable. thats a mini(headphone) plug to two 1/4" trs. that will work, however an interface with xlr/trs outs will provide a more balanced connection as well as cut down your latency
hi man i really appreciate your review but i am a bit confused about the package like did you get the 1/4'' cables or any cables with that or you buy separate and which cable i need to buy for that? thanks
I'm probably going to sound like a noob, but as a musician who's used to headphones and cheap computer speakers, and interested in buying real studio monitors, how would I go about plugging these into my laptop? Do I need some kind of cable? Thanks
Hello. Is it a noticable difference between a 500€ monitor and a 1000€ monitor? For personal usage, not for making music or anything, just for listening to .flac songs and watching bluray movies.
Those are passive, actually I think those have the tweeter on the center instead of on one side, what you need is a power amp, although any receiver with aux input will work I would recommend you something were you are sure there is not extra eq, like some old stereo receiver on ebay or something, because stereos nowadays have hard wired equalization and even compression.
what people have to realize is people are going to be generally listening to your music through laptop speakers/car speakers/shitty ipod headphones and not £500 plus moniters or headphones
dude man i need your help please i just bought these bought i think i got the wrong ones..because the ones i have are the black and red on the back and thats it..is there anyway i can hook these up because they require speaker wire and i dont know what to do are they only used for a receiver? will i be able to hook up to a amp? i mean im just using pro tools etc i mean nothing big is there anyway i can use them major fail for me :((( i think i need to return them...
they may have thought you meant producing films and music. for listening to music, watching movies, and games, a good hifi setup is what you want. i am no expert on hifi sound systems, the only thing i know is that theyre colorful and clear speakers, but the difference between a hifi and monitor is basically that monitors have much less coloring to the sound, and make problems with the mix stick out like a sore thumb, while hifi's color the sound more so that anything will sound crystal clear.
so should i go with these for 299? or krk rokit rp5 g2's? the krk's im looking at come bundled with auralex mopads, but i could get them for the alesis as well....don't know! anybody have any ideas what i should get?
Please can someone reply to this. Are these pair of monitors good for Dance music production ? Please tell me in detail. I'm new to this. Please. Do reply.
Hi, I'm looking to get a pair of these as my first studio monitors. was just wondering how I'd go about setting them up from my Tascam US MK2 Audiointerface? It has an RCA Unbalanced Output. cheers man.
I've had my pair for over 11 years now. I did have to repair both of them a couple of years ago due to a design flaw of the power supply. There is a capacitor that basically gets cooked by a resistor next to it and eventually goes bad. Speaker will power on but then the led will start to flash. I replaced the capacitor myself, just takes basic soldering skill.
I've asked for tips on what kind of speakers I should get on the internet and said that I will use it for games, music and movies and other stuff and I got "active monitors" alot as answer. They told me that Yamaha HS80M or Behringer 3031A is the best choice for me. You don't agree with them? What speakers would you recommend then? My budget is around 500€ at most. :)
Hey there!! Question: Would you say the KRK Rokit 6 = good enough for an all rounder (dance music included) or would you reccomend to spend a little bit more the the 8"?? Thx
tnx for review,could you say,if I buy these,would it be a good idea to lower the bass and boost the highs on a EQ on a master channel and at what levels?
what is the point of letting us hear a recording of your monitors when we are going to hear it through our own speakers anyway.. so what we'll hear from our speakers will never be able to represent your recording
hello, saludos. i was watching your review about the alesis but i was wondering if your hp monitor is a 2011x or 2011i - do you know whats the diference between them?? sorry the english
Tyler, i was wondering, wich monitors to buy, Alesis Monitor 1 MK II or M-Audio Studiophile AV40 Mk II ? Please reply me i need your help so much right now. Thanks.
I agree with this although I have found better results by placing them sideways, with the tweeter facing outwards (contrary to what the manual says) I've been using them for years and although I know there are better options for what I do they're perfect and like them
+Cico Phile just set them up to ur own taste , i like a lot of bass so i turned the bass up to listern to my music , when i making my own music i keep it set the same , just get to no the speakers they are great for the money
I haven't heard the Alesis monitors but I STRONGLY disagree with you about the rokits having a 'truthful' low end. Every one I've heard has had an incredibly 'hyped' low end. In my opinion the 'rokit' range are the wannabe/ amateur range from KRK, the VXT range being the high end, more professional range, in terms of quality and frequency response.
if you are not making music, there is absolutely no reason why you would need studio monitors, and definitely not monitors that expensive. id recommend a good hifi setup instead, and honestly if you truly do want to get monitors, the difference between 500€ and 1000€ would be hardly noticeable especially for watching movies and just listening to music, unless you're in a perfectly treated room.
@TylerClarkOfficial I tested MK2, KRK RP5, M-Audio Studiophile BX8a and Adam A3X. BX8a didn't sound clear, Adams were like... to much power in too small monitor. I felt like they are going to explode. RP5 sounded fuller and better (higher freqs) than MK2. I loved them too for the colors - my room is black and yellow ;).
Hello and thanks! Nice review, i agree with you they lack about 11 kHz and Upper. I Indeed Boost them 2 or 3 dB highs from the console. But besides that, i love the warmth and heavy tone :) the one you can volume up and it's not too hissy, like "dangerous" from m.j. yes, i had to learn too, how to balance my mix according to them, you gotta learn how it translates to other audio Systems. Thanks again and greetings from México!
Yeah man just for my flat. Will be for own personal use and for when I'm having parties now and then, nothing too major. Found a second hand pair for a decent price!
Ive heard other good reviews of these especially for the price . I liked the JBL s better and are only $100 more . I compared about ten monitors and those came up on top .They also have a Good bass response . You can even get away with not adding a subwolfer .Of course id prefer some Adam or dynaudio ,but both these are great first monitors.If you want something in between id suggest Event or Tannoy.Your monitors and your converters r the most important part of ur studio,and 3rd party mix plugs.
(cont) i would definitely go to a local hifi store and tell them your story and what you plan to do, they'll definitely point you in the right direction :)
Best entry level monitors are Mackie mr5 mk2. Krk are not as good. Mackies have better highs and tighter bass. Compare them at guitar center if you can.
I buy the Alesis Mk2 Studio Monitor speakers.First off all the arnt good in small rooms. I use them with traktor S2.Got a big problem.The produce a overload of heavy bass in my room.They may be well suited to larger spaces.So before you buy thise speakers check or room. I'm very disappointed - bass is overloaded and a little distortion.
@elucid07 I had other Alesis monitors. Both of them fried themselves within 3 years. Never buy Alesis again. Same happened to Alesis effects box I had.
I checked it out and its for kids who want to start quote making beats . Its a toy . Like the Korg stuff lol . Not pro at all . Logic only costs $200 now,same with FL . I use Digital Performer .I suppose its good if u want to be deadmaus ripoff for little money . Buying sample packs and loops and simply arranging them is not writing music .I know its the trend,Bad electronica and cant wait for it like all trends to die a quite death .
Terrible monitors. I have had a pair of these for the last 4 years, and have destroyed several of them under warranty due to defects. Just recently, my warranty ran out, and the PSU in one completely fried itself. Save your money and buy yourself some Yamahas or Mackies.
"never trust a man who uses fruity loops" you seem like the man with all the answers. so please, elaborte... why exactly shouldn't you trust a man who uses FL?
You should place the tweeters on the inside according to the manual.
@arcticbeat

@TomeQ14
I love KRK, and they are a great monitor! The ones I have now are the KRK Vxt8. I'll probably do a review of them in the future.
Sorry for the re-upload btw, had some issues with publishing on the last time I uploaded it, and I'm having publishing issues this time too but I'm not going to re-upload again lol. If you want to hear a preview to my new unreleased electro house track "Throw Down" check out 8:20

@XviSi0n12
Well unfortunately they were causing a lot of copyright issues on my channel and I got tired of fooling with them, I'm really sorry.
A very fair review, the moral of the story is .... know your gear, know your room.
You can get RCA to 1/4 TS male plugin adapter cables then. Run the 1/4 TS cables from the back of the monitors to the RCA on your Tascam and just route your audio on your DAW out your Tascam. Should do it :)
I would get the 8's if that's an option. I actually own a pair of the KrK Vxt8's.
@skatepatrufun
I use FL Studio, it's a great program!
I bought a cable. I bought a Y cable that went from 1/8 TRS male to two 1/4 TS males.
That being said, I'm glad you gave the advice about going and trying them out yourself, that's the mistake too many people make when buying monitors.
@XxMaddogPf
Of course :D
Great video, really informative.
I love finding such passionate and personal reviews of products because I know I am getting educated personal feedback.
I am considering getting these as introductory studio monitors.
Cheers.
i used them speakers for a party there amazing really like how loud they get with great bass for the size
sick set up and loved the beat at the end
Hi Tyler, these monitors are sold with a different power supply here, affording up to 250volt. Great review, keep up!
Hey Tyler, great review. I am monitor shopping and certainly don't want to be cheap in this area when it comes to hearing the music I'm recording. What did you upgrade your monitors to from these? What is the next step up in your own personal opinion?

is that truth that amp in these dies fast?
Good video again! I'd like to ask you what you used to make your intro or who made it if you didn't yourself? :)
i had da krk 5 but they were so much bass it was hard to mix but im looking to get sumthing that will give me good highs with good lows will these be great?
Just about EVERY monitor you buy will be coloured until you start getting insane with money lol. People may say some of the cheaper ones aren't but I really don't think so at all.
On Amazon it says 6.5 non-woven carbon fiber woofer cone for fast low frequency transient response.
he already said he bought a y cable. thats a mini(headphone) plug to two 1/4" trs. that will work, however an interface with xlr/trs outs will provide a more balanced connection as well as cut down your latency

Or how about the Equator D5 monitors for $400? Have you heard of or tried those?

Hi Tyler I want to commend you on a very good, genuine review, Cheers

Nice Review! Btw, where did you get this cool Dark Knight Shirt?
Lol I think your talking about the tiesto shirt...........

What monitor do you recommend? KRK Rokit 8 G2 or A1 MKII ALESIS
I mix in mono with my mk1 on the bed and I lean down and mix quietly Nearfield ,travels perfect and is very easy to listen to.
Nice work man!!
Are they better than the yamaha hs50m ?
I agree with this although I have found better results by placing them sideways, with the tweeter facing outwards (contrary to what the manual says) I've been using them for years and although I know there are better options for what I do they're perfect and like them
@TylerClarkOfficial thanks, will do! :)
is that a tiesto shirt?
Thanks very much!

Alesis said: if you feel very strong in low, cover a hole in the front.
I haven't heard the Alesis monitors but I STRONGLY disagree with you about the rokits having a 'truthful' low end. Every one I've heard has had an incredibly 'hyped' low end. Home DJ'ing for parties?
Yeah man just for my flat. Will be for own personal use and for when I'm having parties now and then, nothing too major. Found a second hand pair for a decent price!
Yea, they would be fine but for $300 I would get an actual stereo system that is made for entertaining and listening and not mixing.
What Speakers would you recommend for entertaining and listening? Thanks
Yeah, love the creeper wallpaper :)
Ive heard other good reviews of these especially for the price . I liked the JBL s better and are only $100 more . Teach me how to make songs like that!
@TylerClarkOfficial okay :( , good video!
I'm happy with my behringer b2031p !
@FMGProductions100 Yeah. It's like comparing FIat to Ferrari and saying I love my Ferrari. Not this price bracket bro.
(cont) i would definitely go to a local hifi store and tell them your story and what you plan to do, they'll definitely point you in the right direction :)
