- If you put the legendary BMW 2.0 diesel into the smallest car Mini make.. it’s pretty good! Thanks to Dave for the car.

Cooper S or Cooper SD?
Cooper S for me, better sound, more fun, lighter over front wheels and no DPF/EGR issues.
I drove one and wasn’t a fan of the gearbox and brakes, it felt sloppy but maybe it was just the car I test drove. Fun overall though 👍🙂
SD all day long 😊 sd:s is also going upp in value or staying the same. Same for my q7 tdi. Bc they stop making new.
Sd cause no mid range lag like petrol and wayy fuel efficiency
Great video. I love the mini Cooper SD. Really good to see Dave on the video.
Bought a white one for my gf. Converted taillights to union and black faded. Looks great and drives great. Mpg is great. Had 0 issues with it. She can fit a dog/cage in the back plus luggage. Cheap parts for service. Kinda expensive if you let BMW do everything. Great winter car too here in Sweden tons of grip. Feals like a heavier car in the winter than it really is.
Finally caught up on your past videos, congrats on the C63!
Can’t go wrong with these modern Minis really, cracking cars on the whole, surprisingly reliable too…
I think earlier Cooper Ses with their superchargers were a little more interesting, but in £1.70 petrol world they do seem rather dear compared to a diesel!
Yes I did love the supercharged cooper S’s! I’ve seen a lot of them on track days and for the price they seem a bargain hot hatch in all honesty. Although they are getting on a bit now, so not sure how they would fair against the more modern cars!
Thanks for the support! Looking forward to the next race 😬
I’ve got the petrol counter part. Absolutely love it! Got a valved exhaust on it that mini made
With the special key fob? Are they crazy loud?
Yeah it’s quite loud saying it’s an OEM+ option. It pops and bangs from standard as well.
@@joshweatherill9224 I read something once about how those had to be fitted at the retailers and not present on the car from factory as they wouldn’t pass some eu regulations or something.. not sure that’s true or not?!
Yeah I had to get it from a mini dealer as part of the JCW Tuning Package. It’s a part of the JCW Pro line parts they made for them. Used OEM+ just as saying that Mini made it, there’s rumours that Akropovic actually designed the exhaust for it but it’s not confirmed.
@@joshweatherill9224 love it!!
Mr Dave is back! Nice review chaps and slick production Dom.
The funny thing about that bonnet scoop is that even my electric model has it 😂
Amazing! 😂
Great video. Filmed all around my neck of the woods too 👍🏻
These have the max torque of 360Nm from just 1500rpm. That's why it feels so peppy. Amazing engine.
Cooper SD all the way. Was lucky enough to get a fully loaded 2015 one with heads up display, active cruise control. I drove 78000 miles in that bad boy and, bar 2 punctures due to my bad driving, it was a reliable workhorse. I managed to clock 74mpg granny driving a few times and if I was driving it really spiritedly I’d get around 38mpg. I also got it remapped halfway through ownership by Dervtech which got it around 240 bhp. It was a full on animal!
Wow, was there much torque steer at that sort of power?!
@@CarThought quite a bit so you have to catch it. also back would flit around at high speeds. Only thing I would add is an lsd to improve the handling, as I added this to my base c63 and it’s a completely different car from a handling perspective.
@@M4V3RYK7 haha you have a 63 too? Love it 👌
@@CarThought that’s how I found you!!
Love our SD will never sell. Value is also great these days.
Awesome video mate!!
But I'm prety shore that the headlights are full led and not bi xenon!!
I’ll have to let Dave know! Glad you enjoyed 😃
Some great information thankyou :)
Man i really wish we got this in the states. Diesels really fell off here after the whole volkswagen dieselgate
Try having a paceman sd with jcw kit . That’s a lot rarer
So nice!!!!
Great review guys. No mention of the gears... Are all mini SD automatics?
No mate I drove one today 6 speed manual
Decided to buy an SD rather than a Cooper S on the back of this. Cheers. Good content.
Copper SD is Ulez friendly chaps
Does this have auto blip or auto revmatch on dowshifting ?
It does on my 2016 Copper SD
I learned to drive in one of these. Never really got along with it. I found the gear shift horrible, the view out like a letter box and the steering ad clutch too heavy alongside a chunky but small steering wheel. Accelerated like a stabbed rat though. In all fairness its the only diesel I've driven so that might account for a lot of the unfamiliarity/distaste.
What a learner car! My instructor had a rotten Vauxhall corsa 😂
Get yourself in a big 6 cylinder diesel, 330/335d BMW, A6 3.0 tdi, Range Rover etc. it’ll totally change your mind about diesels!
Well crap the Cooper my family bought from Carvana Doesn’t have Union Jack taillights.
Once again in English
You can get them swapped out easy enough :)
The Mk7 GTDs are definitely an all round better car than the cooper SD. I really love the look of the SD I just think the white head lining and the basic look of the seats let it down.
7 or 7.5 GTD? Not a huge fan of the 8’s personally!
@@CarThought both 7 and 7.5 are better. But obviously personal preference, the GTD would be my go to if I was in the market for a diesel hot hatch
@@tomosjohn230 nearly bought a mk6 gtd but got a 2.0tdi GT in the end (this was 2013 just as the mk7 was coming out). I found the torque band was much more usable in the 2.0 GT.. plus full leather is always nice. 110K miles later and just broke my average journey mpg record, now at 85mpg 🤣
@@CarThought that’s incredible Mpg 😂
@@tomosjohn230 I drive like a grandad going to the doctors though 🤷
*Life Cycle Impulse ...LCI in BMW speak.
You cannot buy a new manual mini as of July 2023.
