after watching this video about 10 times I had the citrex on the mind went on the hunt for months and couldn’t get one ended up gettin one brand new last week in a shop in Ireland 🇮🇪 and it’s a beast !!
Fantastic bit of kit, using one with about three years and find it faultless. Incidentally I have not had to service mine either. 😊
Great review!
had one 3yrs i use it for lure in fresh and salt water no problems at all very good review thanks
Thanks Bob, really glad you enjoyed it!
Andy a great review of a superb reel. Have owned same model for a couple of years for lures up to around 150gms. Totally bulletproof and casts like a dream. I always thumb the reel to avoid backlash and it works for me. Tough to find for sale as you say
just got the citrix 354 (the 5.4 gear ration version) on sale for 88 USD! excited to test it out on the water
I used to use a lot of 6500 Abu elite ( magnetic casting drag/ brake) it you were casting for cod at night, or bass in the summer then I was a ‘thumb hoverer’......both for level wind and open cage......same with my pike baitcasters now... you can feel it starting to overrun- which can be quite dramatic with a six ounce lead.. great video and review.
Got mine ordered and on its way £133 delivered. Can't wait
This video is a godsend, I was actually looking up reels to pair with my new SG4 power game 70-130gr. Thanks a bunch mate, now I only have to choose between this and the Daiwa tatula 300.
Both very very good reels, a big price difference though!
@@IBandAndyFishing well, I've seen the citrix for 199 and the tatula from a Spanish seller for 230ish, do the difference isn't all that big in my case.
Yeah that's not too bad at all, a nice choice to have!
estimado, he adquirido el mismo okuma, y la verdad comparto sus comentarios, es un reel excelente, cada pez que logre clavar lo pude traer a la costa sin esfuerzo, la verdad hermoso . saludos desde Argentina
Hi Andy, from my experience casting sea fishing multipliers, I always take my thumb completely off of the spool for the cast and then thumb the spool just as the lure is about to hit the water. This will optimise distance and then ensure the turn over and neat landing of the lure. But having said that my thumb is never far from the spool like you say and at night time this obviously doesn’t work so well. The problem with full release is you can crank open the brakes for maximum distance, in this situation there are two things that can go wrong, firstly not casting hard enough can be a problem , and secondly on a lose spool float, if you don’t check the cast as it lands you will also over run, so in summary if you want distance then thumb off but it comes at a price.
Another crackin detailed review Andy.
Where’s ib...?🤔
I just bought mine yesterday and I tell you it has better than my Abu 6500 C3 does not hold a lot of 80 lb 832 sufix but it definitely holds enough for catfishing at my favorite catfish lakes in Ohio
Great review Andy, from someone who only started using a baitcaster last year I too found it hard to find the right video about what’s what. I’ve been using the Abu Garcia Promax and found it a great bit of kit for sub £80 for the lot. I tend to find myself using my thumb as a guaranteed stop system. That said at 6’6 it’s all a bit dinky for me but was great to learn with. I have brought the SG XLNT and will be getting at some point a matching reel. I have had suggested by many the Komodo 364 but have since been told they now have plastic gears? Any chance you could shed light on this?
Just got my reel today. It's not a big or small reel. It's just perfect to throw on any rod for my preference. But anything over 8ft rod seems like over kill to me 😆
Awesome video 🤙🤙🤙getting one in the mail tomorrow 🤙🤙🤙soooooooo needed that video!!!! Be safe brother.....
I use the citrix for both casting and deadbait fishing. While casting I have the drag on 3 or 4, depending on the size of the lure but no matter the reel, I always keep my thumb close to the spool while casting to avoid backlashes
Thank younfor the info! Was thinking of pulling the trigger on these.
I've had one for six years now. The only maintenance has been a drop of oil on the level wind. Not put a foot wrong. I prefer the hard handles to the slightly squidgy EVA ones. Not had a problem knocking the clicker on. As for casting, I'm a brake user for baits under 100g, over that I do have my thumb hovering. Okuma reels in general are not the easiest thing to get hold of in this country
4:49 -- The problem with this Okuma Citrix baitcaster and also the more expensive Okuma Komodo baitcaster is the NON-disengaging levelwind.
You'll notice here in the video the levelwind at the front of the reel goes left and right very quickly during the cast. In fact the levelwind is moving in sync with the spinning spool. Because of this synchronization, the levelwind will absolutely ROB you of casting distance, unfortunately. Or to get extra distance you'll have to put on a massive, heavy lure, which is not always optimal.
More sophisticated baitcasters like the Shimano Tranx and the Daiwa Lexa have disengaging levelwinds so your spool can spin freely during your cast and therefore you can get much longer casting distances.
I always have my thumb in very slight contact with the braid (VERY slight). Pretty much don’t have to worry about the break settings!
Good reel. Not close to daiwa lexa 300 but for the 65 euro I paid in Sweden 18 month ago (here they throw them after you) I am happy. Also i do not have the problem with the side plate. Just push it right down and screw it in.
Looking for a komodo myself and onlway I can find atm is buying from usa so I'll hold off a little longer. Also about to go for the sg4 80-150g
Very detailed review 🔥🎣🎣
How do you know

Hi Andy, great review. Cannot find a Citrix from a UK supplier but can find an Komodo which is slightly more expensive. Are there any real differences? Komodo for saltwater and Citrix fresh? Your thoughts greatly appreciated, Thanks
£165 ... I think I'll keep my Abu Amabassador 500c going a bit longer :D ... I like Okuma reels I have one of the fixed spool ones and as you say they're well engineered I just wish I could find spare spools for them that would be nice.
Through the casting better you keep your thumb away from the spool and don’t get terrified if you see it starting to turn fast and the line is getting as if it will backlash , cause soon it will correct and return to tension .. the moment it touch the water you need to put your thumb back solidly
Hello andy great vidieo
Im countin day to the trout season
I run my thumb on the spool when casting aswell more so because I don't really change the casting/wind drag which switch between lure weight of 10-40grams
Another vid yes 👍👌
Doing our best bud!
Hey Andy u ever thought of doing a lure fishing video for zander
I've tried a few times bud, I keep failing 🙈😂
@@IBandAndyFishing unlucky I always seem to catch them when I’m not targeting them 😂
No your mate Robbie definitely the weird one, how your casting is how you cast a baitcaster, thanks for that video, I've had reel 2years never took cover off hadn't read instructions as I've been using baitcasters for years, I didn't know it had that brake setting inside 😂😂😂
I use my for big catfish and it will handle any thing you can hook I've caught 40 and 50 lbs and the reel will handle a lot bigger fish it is well worth the money.
How much braid shall I get for this reel, thinking 80lb braid, don’t wanna be short. Tia
Hi there can you me advise what colours of fly to use in muddy river (coffee) bright or dark. Many thanks miroslav from Ne
Kansas City is Watching 👀
Where is ib
Would this reel cast 20gram lures fine ???
Robbie is the weird one!!! I do what you do Andy!
I thought that was the case 🙈😂
I have the same experience with the clicker while casting, same style of casting but to me the only drawback to this reel
I can’t find it anywhere, seems impossible to buy!
Robbie is definitely the odd one out Andy I don’t know anyone who takes there finger completely off, must be a secret method on a bad day 😂
What's with this term Baitcaster, its a stylised multiplier ?
Its a luercaster, because lures are not bait.
I still use my gorgeous little circa 1980 proper Swedish ABU Ambassador 2500C. Does me for bass (saltwater) and pike.
Sorry Andy, but yet another Yanky term which is rubbish.
Good review thought.
From the bit of research I've just done, it appears that the very earliest baitcast reels were used for bait.
It seems that the key early differential between the baitcaster and the multiplier was the the baitcaster had a level wind, multipliers didn't.
They didn't feature a drag system but they did have a clicker which bait anglers liked as it audibly informed of a take.
I turns out the these original reels were cast with the reel over the top of the rod but retrieved with the reel underneath. I'm glad we did away with that one!
@@IBandAndyFishing Some good research there Andy. However, my 2500C has a level wind, which is a bit odd considering its really a mini surfcasting multiplier. The levelwind does reduce casting distance. Big off shore boat multipliers also mostly have level winds and do use bait, but are still called multipliers, so I'm thinking the term Baitcaster is purely a US thing. ABU is now owned by US company Pure Fishing, so that doesn't help.
The 2500C was about £60 in 1980, which was about two weeks wages to me back then. Work that out at todays prices ?
By earliest baitcasters I'm talking late 19th century- from what I can see it was smaller reels which were used for repeat casting which were the first to be fitted with an LW.
No doubt though the term is an American term, though I think these days it probably helps to differentiate between a round bodied multiplier like yours and a low-profile reel like the one in Yr video. 👍👍
Thinking about putting one on my surfrod for saltwater.
Love the vids #notygang
Robbie’s the weird one.
