Both of Bo's long runs were interrupted this game (at least for fans in the Birmingham area). On his first long run, they were playing an interview with Pat Dye....and ofcourse Mary Brown on this long run. I was at the game and you could not see the other side of the stadium it was raining so hard. Luckily, our seats were under the upper deck.
Yep! She knew full well that no one was paying attention to her when Bo started pulling away for the touchdown. Nowadays, it would have been more like this: Announcer: "Jackson's on his way" *Bo pulls away* Play by Play Announcer: "Goodbye" *TV cuts to station severe weather graphic* "We interrupt this broadcast for a severe weather alert". Right about 1:20 is where that cut would happen.
Right about 1:20 is where we’d see suspenders on our TV sets. Spann was actually talking about this on Song of the Night tonight on Instagram, and he said he was in coverage on Channel 13 at the time.
I lived near Legion Field,I was there across the street watching the game on TV and hearing the crowd go wild. Paul Bryant casket car and progression pass by my school. I remember those days.
If this happened today, they'd suspend play just like they do with lightning. Heaven forbid this ever happen because there could be a lot of injuries/fatalities, if one actually hit the stadium where a game was in progress. This system went on to produce an F3 tornado in Oxford that hit a Super Market and killed 3 people.
Yep. That tornado hit the Winn-Dixie in Oxford, completely obliterating it. The Sky City store next to it was damaged but the building remains. To this day, nothing has been built on the Winn-Dixie site.
Thank you thank you thank you. A weekend radio show starts with a montage of calls, "Run, Lindsay, Run" the Lindsay Scott call, the Billy Cannon call, the Miracle On Markham Street (this is Razorback country), Bill Ward's "Wherever you are in the world, it's football time in Tennessee", but one I could not put my finger on was "give to Bo Jackson......Good bye!". I knew I knew that voice like the back of my hand, but I could not come up with a name. Keith Jackson. Duh. This was the last piece of the puzzle.
It's my understanding that ABC will regain broadcast TV rights to Southeastern Conference football in 2024 and will run an SEC game in prime time every Saturday night of the season.
The Bryant era ended in 1979. The program started into a decline marked by drunken players, drugs, firing guns in town etc. Unfortunately the Bear had gotten too old to maintain control of his teams. A major house-cleaning was needed.
@wills5310If you are talking about Switzer, of course. You had to hide your wife if you worked as an assistant under him. Coaches such as Barry and Bobby Knight were considered gods at their college campuses and they definitely had an aura of invincibility
Touchdown! Bo Jackson!.......Whoa Nellie! He's been taken up into a tornado!.....And he's been deposited in a baseball park! Guess he's gonna try to play two professional sports!
Not with Bo playing unfortunately. Cannot believe they let him go to Auburn. The greatest athlete of all time, not only from Alabama, but the world and they let him go to Auburn. WTF?
@@kennyfutch8783 Perhaps, he claims it was because they wasn't going to let him start his freshman year. Said he was going to sign with Alabama and an assistant running his mouth changed his mind.
right after the tornado warning, the Tornado received a Bo Jackson warning, to seek shelter immediately and stay inside. 246 yards on 16 carries!!!!

The cut would definitely be at 1:16

Bo ran so fast HE caused that tornado warning.
Shoulda had Bo run counter clockwise (or clockwise whichever) around the tornado to neutralize it
We have a confirmed tornado touchdown in the end zone.
These days they would cut to the local news coverage of the tornado warning.
Bo knows tornadoes.

I was @ Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL (I was attending Ordnance Officers Basic Course) preparing for a field exercise the next week
Super cool thanks for posting

We Interupt This Tornado Warning For A Bo Jackson Touchdown!
I was at the game as a HS senior. Scary weather. WDE.
The dude looks exactly the same now as he did then!

246 yds on just 16 carries!!! That's over 15 yds per carry. 😳
Had 140 yards on his two TD runs.
WBRC could have had tornado coverage on three-fourths of the screen with sound, and run the game without sound in one corner of the screen.
Damn that tornado. Bo knows
The technology to do that wasn't available at the time
WBRC was at the time an ABC affiliate, but would switch to Fox a little more than a decade later.
I feel like you gotta be on adderall to keep up with your descending paragraphs, but thank you for posting sir !

What? He still had 2 very good years left in him.
1980 Finished 10-2 and ranked #6
1981 9-2-1 and ranked #7
1982 8-4 and ranked #17
I think your getting Alabama confused with Oklahoma 1988, where Barry Switzer just turned his head on all those activities

Why is Auburn's Ed Graham cheering for the Alabama defense?
dude must've been knocked out 🤣
She has her priorities in order...she went to school in the SEC.
Bo Jackson the greatest Athlete I've had the pleasure to watch in baseball and football.
Awlbarn used to love it when they would break bamas long win streaks !
Not the best college rivalry, not even close!!!
Ya’ll just don’t get it down there!!

Good luck in the NCAA tournament!
