    "Good .... real good"
    "Bad .... real bad"
    The wonderful thing was that we got to see those feelings play out each Sunday over a Coke and a bag of Golden Flake chips. His show was absolute must watch TV for a large portion of the nation.
    Miss ya like hell, Coach.

    One funny thing is he said he doubted they would be number 1 that year (1973), & they were: They finished regular season number 1 in both polls, before losing super close to Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl. Dropped to number 4 just in the AP poll.

    What is this exactly? It feels like Coach Bryant went on a high school recruiting trip to scout an athlete and, naturally of course, the entire school saw him and converged on him because he was a celebrity. Since he was already shaking hands and signing autographs, a group of kids came up to him in the halls and asked if he would answer their questions for the school news report. Which he was obviously gracious enough to do. That's what this seems like at first glance anyways.

      @ J A T - He played and coached in an era when black players/coaches were excluded and a LOT of people had
      NO problem at all with that.Just the suggestion of unfairness cost his unbeaten/untied team the 1966 National Championship.

    In 1973 Sugar Bowl, Notre Dame beat Alabama 24-23, to win the National Championship. After that game, many sports writers called it the greatest football game ever played on ANY level! GO IRISH!!!

      So because he is talking to black people he isn’t a racist? Lmao at the Alabama logic when being so football obsessive. It’s pretty obvious what the state of Alabamas priorities always have been. 😂

    This is so politically motivated! I'm so surprised Coach Bryant even took part in it! Let's just be honest as folks! Love all people! Regardless of their race! Judge everyone by their character only!

    • @ernestriley2857
      @ernestriley2857 9 років тому +3

      +jon wilson , how is this politically motivated, it was an interview conducted by possibly some inspired black kids in the 60's or 70's, Bear Bryant was one of the first Coaches who had the courage to recruit black players in the SEC, trust me I understood his motive, he wanted to win, but nonetheless, it takes a man of great courage to face bigotry and hatred head on. However, he did the interview anyway. And I beg the differ, you don't love all folks regardless of race, because if you did, you wouldn't make such a statement@!

    • @jonwilson7542
      @jonwilson7542 9 років тому

      You must be black!..Bryant wanted to use this interview to aid his recruiting dept...Winning football games with the best athletes he could get was what this was about!

    • @ernestriley2857
      @ernestriley2857 9 років тому +5

      +jon wilson Hello Jon, it really doesn't matter if I'm black or white, the bottom line, Bear Bryant knew he had to change the culture in Alabama by recruiting more black athletes in the 70's if he really wanted to compete. With that being said, this is why I commend the man. But you on the other hand, fail to give credit, to where credit is due, by down playing the truth and the facts! Com'on man, he was one of the first coaches in the south to recruit black athletes, because he wanted to win, and he wanted a change in the deep south. Don't misunderstand me, it took white athletes as well. But it was a lot easier on the Bear to win, with both races playing together as one. And trust me he faced a lot of adversity and opposition at trying to make this happen, most of these stories haven't been told. And furthermore, to elaborate on your point, yes he wanted to aid his recruiting dept, and win football games with the best athletes, but don't get it twisted, he knew what type of Athlete he had to bring to Alabama, and I am forever grateful for men like Paul Bear Bryant! and "Yes" I am black! and proud of it,,,

    • @derrickowens3497
      @derrickowens3497 6 років тому

      jon wilson Bear was winning, he was getting recruits and he got facility upgrades when he wanted. He tried to recruit black athletes and was a huge part of it happening sooner. Trying to tear down anybody great with race is just tacky and shows a lack of character.
