Michigan Amish working Belgian draft horses in winter to move a cabin up a slippery hill

- Jim took this video while watching the local Amish move a building from 4 miles north of Lakeview Michigan to 4 miles south of Lakeview.
True horsepower! Here are local Michigan Amish workers using 8 Belgium horses, then 12 horses, to move this cabin up a snow covered slippery hill in the middle of the winter. I think they are speaking German? Or, maybe an Amish dialect, not sure.

A thing of beauty to watch. Beautiful animals
That is a lot of beautiful horse power !!!
I was wondering how much horse power they had.
Not a horse’s job to pull for humans.
Have always admired the Amish and how they can do everything they need to without TV.
They are like our pioneers and are preserving something of great importance. Their example may show us how to keep living if there us an EMP or something.
Not to mention all the natural food they eat. When I’m in Oklahoma I always stop in Amish country for food.
I have seen Horses like these in Belgium. They were originally bred as war horses for heavily armed mounted cavalry units, and were used in battles like Waterloo. When you stand next to one they tower over you. They are truly impressive.
@@donnae9566 What are you talking about?
Amazing beautiful horses.
That’s a lot of horses all chained together! Excellent training is right!
Imagine how long it takes to tack all those horses up
Great team work by man and horse
That is REAL horse power in action.
Have never seen a team of eight! What an accomplishment!
If the world comes to an end, we'll have to let these good people know.
Just because they don't use electricity or engines, doesn't mean they don't know what's going on in the world.
@@jasonmccoy4217 you may have missed his point
Watching the Amish move buildings casually is always satisfying to watch. 😂💯#Random
Those wonderful animals 🤗Awesome 🙏🏻🎶🕊️🌿💖💖
8 up Belgians! That's a lot of horse to control!
These people are unique they just work with the natural in a respectful way.good natural life ..... admirable .thanks for sharing 👍☮️
Piece of cake for those guys.
BLESSINGS GOREGOUS HORSES !!!! I LOVE ALL EIGHT OF YOU !!!! THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THE AMISH TAKE EXCELLENT CARE OF THEIR HORSES OVER ANYTHING OR ANYONE ELSE 🌸🌿 💖🇺🇸 WOW
thanks Ginger . I always the Amish were capable, did know they moved small cabins like that
love the amish.there great craftsman.woman are honorable.God fearing people.and this is truly horsepower.God be with you all.and thank you for shareing.
Incredible work by incredible people and horses, impressive!
I like the part where the cabin is first being pulled by a 4 x 2 team. Then the road goes uphill, so they add more horsepower for the hill, another 2 x 4 team.
I’m surprised they didn’t cover their face or look away. They did in Lancaster when I would take a picture of their wagons or bicycles.
Depends on the rules of the church they belong to.
My Grandfather had Clydesdales beautiful gentle creature's. At least his were.
I live in Michigan but that's amazing. I hope they take good care of those horses. I seen too many Auctions lots of neglect
@@donnae9566 I suppose they could just turn them loose or keep them as house pets
When your Omish buddy says he needs help moving!..
🤣🤣🤣
These horses aren't even working! They are just walking along like a Sunday stroll. A concerted effort between man and beast. And, you can see that these horses are well cared for. Loved this video!
So intently wonderful in so many ways!
And there's how that's done!
Lots of Amish in my N. Michigan area.
I had a cabin built by an Amish company in Mio and delivered by internal combustion to my place. North Star is the only company in Michigan and one of only a handful in the nation that kiln dries it's pressure treated exterior wood so it won't leach chemicals into the ground.
So...I’m guessing we have the Amish to thank for the idea of the motorhome, towing the car behind..?
great video of the amish, never sean this before. the amish sure train there horses the right way.
Amazing!
That's 12 real horsepower!
Magnificent
Thanks for sharing.
Outstanding Footage 👍
God bless these hard working people
Looks like the best way and time to me!
Wow, just amazing. Well done to the will of the Amish
Wonderful to behold!
Awesome
THE BEST HORSE EVER WAS TRIGGER: HE & BULLET ARE AT A DFW TX MUSEUM 🐎 🇺🇸
moving buildings like this is usually on the morning of Jan 1......no cops and no drunks around
If that would have been one of today’s houses not built by them it would not have lasted for five feet!
Poetry in motion.
8 horsepower!!
Those horse are huge!
Lol this video about to take off in the recommended, but did it make anyone else think of Pirates of the Caribbean?
great people love the Pa.
Amish.
The horses are well cared for as well, absolutely beautiful. 1200 lbs each with no strain pulling the building in the snow. Wheels and Walls.
No, they aren't. Amish are famous for abusing their animals.
Nice,, very awsome
Awesome Beautiful ❤️.
Before utility poles aka telephone poles, many a building. Both 10 room homes to barns were moved that way. The original mobile home.
Gives an entirely whole new meaning to moving house.
I just love Draft horses and mules. I’m told it’s rare to find a mule that you can’t ride. What a mix would be a draft horse and donkey. These horses work as hard as the Amish.
Some people prefer mules - the sterile offspring of a horse and an ass. I live in a community where there is a good sized group of Amish and also one 20 miles north of us. These folks are old order Amish and seem sold on Percherons or Belgians. I’ve been here close to 30 years and don’t remember seeing a Clydesdale in use or a mule. I have driven Belgians before and broke right they’re obedient and easy going. It’s nothing to see these horses weighing in at close to a ton. That’s quite a deer blind they’ve got there.
Gotta love the amish
Well Done Men!
... Cheers...
Somebody has to be an example of what you can still do without complex machinery & digital electronics. It might as well be the Amish
Not bad for just an 8horse power !
Immer wieder beeindruckend auch nach 11jahren noch 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Just thinking how simple things are.
i agree its a good thing to keep certain things in mind . for the time i'll accept machinery and ai to help me with my life struggles.
I love these people. Don't need no gasoline.
Hard working people, and hard working horses ( something that you don't see any more ).
They work their horses until they completely wear out and then they send them to the glue factory. I wish these people would just use tractors and cars/trucks. They see horses as purely just tools, not as the beautiful amazing animals who need to be loved and cared for, that they are.
Not too shabby considering it's only 8 horsepower, and 12 horsepower for the hill.
drag sleds & draft horses rule!
now that is what I call horse power!!!!!
Men working with livestock did everything before steam. Everything.
Sweet. A mobile home.
Great vid. Ive seen an Amish crew take on something like this before, but not on this scale.
#amazing
You have to wonder why they didn't build the cabin in the place they are moving it to. Instead of building it, then moving it.....
wow I love this. We need more horses and less cars. We need whole towns and cities where you can just choose horse power only. Of course would need someone to watch them when you nip in the store and back out but I would love to move somewhere where i could do this. And I would love it if I could teach my boys to pull, though they are 21 and around 18, humongous drafts. The more technology evolves the more I just want to go back in time.
Yeah but some idiot will complain that horses should run free & that they should not be enslaved to the yoke.
A nice balance of the old and new, all things new aren't perfect neither are all things old balance the best of all things with sustainability be conscious of the future and the past and try to make the world a somewhat better and safer place to live. Nice to see the team work they do enjoy the challenge of the pull, great video thanks from Minnesota....
Here here!!!
I'm quite sure it got difficult to find horse manure cleaners. Can you imagine walking behind horses all day to clean up their droppings?
The liberals would cancel that because they produce too much methane. They would rather see you in harness pulling that house with them cracking the whip.over you.
I find the Amish people to be interesting I m curious how they re able to get along living life the old fashion way
Interesting rigging (at 0:19). A tire? And that little chain doesn't seem like it would be up to the job, but I guess it did OK. A lot of steam pouring off that team. Thanks for sharing the video!
The tire is to absorb the initial shock of taking off

Is that Amish style prefabricated house😎?
They missed an opportunity to hand a fire going an smoke rolling out the chimney as they went down the road!
Actually they went uphill...
What is the purpose of the rear carriage?
Great video thanks, what happens when you hit a downhill??
Nnancy Carrigone😅😂🤣
@@handleDAW now that’s some funny ishhhhh 😂😂😂😂 sorry Nancy!!!!🤷🏽♂️
And, smart enough to build a fire too..
Amazing creatures of God. So powerful.
Where is “wide load” sign 😛
Now this is what you Call HORSE POWER..... Dodge Charger, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette, don't have HORSE POWER like these Amish do. Can't be bet🤠👍🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎
These people will rule the world when Civilization finally collapses.
Amish need to run our government !!! They would change a few things!!!!
Amish. Would be a leader
A quite life..but like many I need my modern technology.
Pretty cool ?
What happens to your horses when they are too old to work?
Most carriage horse in cities are retired working horses. The get pampered living the urban life , the public feeds them carrots as they stroll parks built for such horses.
THEY GO OUT TO PASTOR. RETIRE
@@williamhudson3366 The one in my profile pic was an Amish buggy horse pulled from killpen
Amish Winnebago?
Amish RV
So the Amish are making videos eh? 😂 this is killing me! What next website and email marketing?
I seriously doubt ginger is Amish.
I you want something done that's not easy to do hire the Amish!
And horses
I think 10 horses would easily out pull any 10hp gas engine no matter the gearing.
Does one horsepower equal one horse?
Not quite. It’s a common misconception that one horsepower is equal to the peak power production of a horse, which is capable of a maximum of around 14.9 horsepower. By comparison, a human being is capable of approximately five horsepower at peak power production.
Instead, Watt designated horsepower to be equivalent to the amount of power that a horse can sustain for an extended period of time. However, there are many different variations of horsepower.
Unlike the measurement of, say, time, the exact definition of horsepower can vary depending on regional variations and the specific machine whose power is being measured.
Mechanical horsepower, also known as imperial horsepower, is the measurement invented by James Watts and is approximately equivalent to 745.7 watts of power. Pferdestarke, also known as PS or metric horsepower, is a similar measurement developed in Germany that’s equivalent to 735.5 watts.
Horsepower for electric motors is equivalent to 746 watts, while boiler horsepower, which is used to measure the output of steam boilers is more different still, with one boiler horsepower roughly equivalent to 9,810 watts.
Belgian horses are able to pull tremendous weights. At the National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colorado, a team of two horses in the Heavyweight class pulled 17,000 pounds a distance of 7 ft 2 in (7,700 kg a distance of 2.18 m). The team of Belgians weighed 4,800 pounds (2,200 kg)
Why are Amish always moving their buildings?
GET ER DONE
Real horse people using horses as they should be used
That is so mean to make those horses drag that cabin truck could do that and just minutes
8hp,then12hp,then back to 8 hp,and a get the heck outta my way.
