DziobekPl sorry dave is the real deal. lars is to concerned with what makes himself happy. dave played his parts better than he did on the original recordings
ray russell I know that Dave is great drummer and he has skills which Lars doesn't have but saying that you had not heard the double bass in Metallica is not truth. Lars is not the best drummer but he can play double bass and in 80 s and early 90 s he was actually pretty good. Sorry for my english ;]
In a bit of revisionist history, metallica would’ve been godlike with lombardo or menza on drums (not like they aren’t already, but more so with those two)
Kudos to Lombardo for being familiar with the material, and being classy about filling in. No showboating or anything, but doing a favor for another band. And whether it sounded 'better' is irrelevant. Lars had an unmistakable sound that clicked with the band, and made their unique sound. Dave did an exceptional job of coming in and keeping the songs clean and familiar. Kudos all around
Dave Lombardo plays this so much better than Lars! Every fill is perfect, and the lead fill into the last solo is flawless! Dave Lombardo would UP Metallica's game if he were to join!
+ajwasp and they haven't even rehearsed with him. Lars' genius for being an absolute cnut made them filthy rich, though. They have him to thank for that even if he sucks balls as a drummer.
WonderDrugEchinacea No doubt man. I'm sure it's not easy to carry those notes in the tone of voice he did it in for so many years, plus all the drinking and smoking, it gets hard on your throat and vocal cords real fast.
EvilSSP You are right...How about Corey taylor?I can not find evidence whether he smokes or not?If you have some info;please share with me brother;thank you...
This must have been a real treat for Trujillo. Playing with a guy who can actually play. Robert is so talented and he has to carry the rhythm with a guy that can't even keep time. They should get a new drummer and Lars can manage.
colin poitras trust me. As a Bass player, it's really off-putting when the drummer can't keep it together. I've played with drummers that would make Lars look like Mike Portnoy.
In all fairness to Lars, he's a human being and he fits with what Metallica does musically. Dave Lombardo isn't human lol. He's on God level. Best ever with Gene Hoglan right there with him. IMO
Dave's playing the same arrangement as Lars. He added the necessary dbass fills and added less random fills, but on the whole it sounds like the same thing Lars plays.
I love how the people that bash Lars, probably haven't heard him in his prime between the 80s and 2000. He's not as fast as Lombardo, but he was the shit back in those days and you could hear his double bass pedals working overtime. I'll agree, Lars has gotten lazy with his drumming over the last few years, but really? Do people have to curse him out and shit? What have you morons done lately except troll around from video to video looking for attention?
The problem is that people actually have heard him "in his prime". He sounds exactly the same. He has the same shitty technique. The only difference is that he's gotten lazier over the years when playing live.
Fond3ll - Fakebit, Chiptunes and Bitpop Music! Next time write IMAO next to your comment because not everyone will agree with you on the comment you made..
Kyle Batteson I have seen Metallica live on their first European tour. Lars already was a crap drummer then. I have seen footage of Lars in the studio. There is not a single "one take" song on any album. He just cannot drum.
when u really think about this lineup playing this song, it covers quite a few bands that created thrash metal, James Hetfield & Metallica, Kirk Hammett & Exodus, Dave Lombardo & Slayer, Rob Trujillo & Suicidal Tendencies and a song from the Metallica album Kill Em All, which had Dave Mustaine/Megadeth \m/
I love this but remember, it's not the individual talent that makes bands click. It's the sum of an unexplainable energy. Look at the Beatles, Paul is arguably the most talented musician ever but if he played all the instruments on every song it wouldn't be the same. Sure Ringo isn't technically amazing but he's part of the formula that worked, a very big part of the sound.
Lars actually is fuckin crap...never was a great drummer but did improve his technique doin a great album with the "justice" in studio...then live shows got worst and worst and his technique nowadays is shit. At the beginning Lars was the firestarter but i hate the persona and his work since the early nineties
Tbh it doesn't matter, Lars has his dream come true... International superstar, millionaire.. hall of fame.. everything. You? - nothing of the sort... It's doesn't matter how much crappy people speak about Lars ( he isn't amazing) because none of us are anything close to him, and will never be as successful
When the hell did he have time to practice. I guessing he is not just playing metallica songs all the time. Amazing how talented and capable these guys are....long live heavy metal!
Dave is the best drummer they ever had lol. Love Lars but he isn't a great drummer but he does fit the part. On the other hand Dave is an icon and a badass drummer and would run circles around Lars. Btw somebody's guitar is out of tune.

Especially on the more difficult songs.
To chime in, we all know Dave's a better drummer than Lars .. I'm sure Lars and the rest of Metallica know it as well. If the spot for Metallica's drummer becomes available, I think Dave Lombardo would be first on the list. As other have noted, he brings a lot to their music.

Lars was awesome back in the 80's and even during the early 90's but than he just stopped trying. I mean, people pay money to see him play. At least put some effort into your work. Oh well, Lombardo is much better than Lars and always has been.
the heart of metallica always was, is and will be hetfield! all the riffs, the melodies and the vocals, what else?? burton was a great contribuition in the best composition moments of metallica.
0:28 IT'S ALRIGHT, HE'S THE WORST ONE ANYWAY!
Couldn't stop laughing.
hahaha couldn't believe someone said that even though its soooo true :P
He's more talented than hetfield.....
Damien Oldham
haha are you serious?
wow please tell me you are talking about dave because Lars more talented than Het?? Yeah right
I can't breathe!
Sir I'm sorry the Toyota Prius you wanted is being repaired. But don't worry, we brought you this Ferrari F40 instead, hope it's okay with you.
Lombardo. Hetfield. Mustaine. Burton.
now thats the 4 horsemen!!
Hey they finally played this song with Dave!!!! Wait... Wrong Dave.....
Exactly what i thought...
Actually it’s the right Dave.
Just imagine a band of Daves. Dave Lombardo, Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, and uh... Dave Murray. Maybe David Draiman on vocals
@@Thurgor_SupremeDavid Lee Roth on vocals
If you think about it, these 4 guys have collectively been in Metallica, Exodus, Slayer, and Suicidal Tendencies.
That's tight!
don't forget Infectious Grooves
Testament too
Mr. Bungle
Playing a song written by Dave Mustaine 🤯
Exactly!!
I had not heard the double bass pedal in metallica until
Now!!
So you're deaf I think ;)
With lars all you here is the snare! Daves the whole package!
DziobekPl
sorry dave is the real deal. lars is to concerned with what makes himself happy. dave played his parts better than he did on the original recordings

DziobekPl I agree
Wow dave injects so much energy into the whole bands performance, its amazing.
James: "There are 4 people on stage here" turns around... ah shit.
I like how Robert naturally keeps going over to Dave, like, "Do you need my help counting?", and Dave's like, "What!?"
No. It's more to cue him on certain parts where he has to stop playing and then start again.
At 0:28 (fan yells): "It's alright! He (Lars) is the worst one anyway!"
LOL :)
Imagine the 80s metallica albums with a drummer like Lombardo or Nick Menza on them, drool.
you wouldnt even have Metallica without the little guy, so we cant imagine
In a bit of revisionist history, metallica would’ve been godlike with lombardo or menza on drums (not like they aren’t already, but more so with those two)
Even though Lars is a sloppy drummer, he was the reason Metallica is here today. So without him, none of this would even exist.
I agree. Its still o.k. to rip on him.
That's debatable
Kudos to Lombardo for being familiar with the material, and being classy about filling in. No showboating or anything, but doing a favor for another band. And whether it sounded 'better' is irrelevant. Lars had an unmistakable sound that clicked with the band, and made their unique sound. Dave did an exceptional job of coming in and keeping the songs clean and familiar. Kudos all around
I love how they're all drawn to Dave, it's like they can't get enough of him.
"It's ok! One of us went to the hospital! If he dies we'll get a real drummer and everything will be fine!"
Good one ☺ But indeed, when you hear that power behind the drums, and how that adds new dimension to Metallica, pitty they didn't have a Dave ☺.
This song has never been played this good on drums. Seriously...
And this drumkit has never been played so well.
praseodym12 you obviously haven't heard any live performances of this song from before 1995.
hahahaha, 1st time that song got played right since the '80s ended!
+Doomanoid1979 agreed! :-)
Lombardo would up anyone’s game
Come on James, introduce him - "Slayer's Dave Lombardo is joining us". It's Low Level respect for a great musician.
Id like to introduce him as Metallicas Dave lombardo
Lars was suffering from lack of talent disorder.
+unfukmeessexslave Hot supermodels? Lol...No wonder he can't play. All of his energy went out his dick.
+unfukmeessexslave Supermodels he had to pay for maybe. He's a shitty person and a shitty drummer.
wouldn't take much!
LTD is almost as bad as LSD
Hey James you know why you feel better than ever? Because you sound better than ever because you finally have a real drummer behind that kit.
I was thinking just that! LOL
WonderDrugEchinacea
No doubt man. I'm sure it's not easy to carry those notes in the tone of voice he did it in for so many years, plus all the drinking and smoking, it gets hard on your throat and vocal cords real fast.
+EvilSSP does he smoke?
fuat ozsezer
Oh I'm sure he did at some point, and more than just cigs lol.

This must have been a real treat for Trujillo. Playing with a guy who can actually play. Robert is so talented and he has to carry the rhythm with a guy that can't even keep time. They should get a new drummer and Lars can manage.
search on yt dave lombardo says what he really think about Lars Ulrich
colin poitras trust me. As a Bass player, it's really off-putting when the drummer can't keep it together. I've played with drummers that would make Lars look like Mike Portnoy.
@@russkate88 Shit, they must be very very bad...

Man ... love love LOVE this version with Dave drumming.
Ahhh,so that's how Metallica sounds with a drummer..
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Wow instant upgrade without Lars.
Freakin awesome, everybody is enjoying it, the crowd, the band, the fills and tempo was a killer. Pls make a tour with dave.
one of my favorite songs
I love how it feels like the original, but has a lot of Dave's flavor. Dave, you rock!
Dave raping lar's drums!
LMFAO... Slaaaaaaaayer shot in Metallicas arm.. it's all good.
Dave's playing the same arrangement as Lars. He added the necessary dbass fills and added less random fills, but on the whole it sounds like the same thing Lars plays.
this is extra special, take ur time lars lol have a good day

cliff?
Look at Hammett and Trajilo line up and pay homage throughout.
+verve92 Trujillo LOL
LOL My bad.
Spot on

Berzerker37 I did and I stand by it. ;)
Your opinion I guess...
Pitchfever Academy: What you said is totally spot-on. It's a shame that most people fail to understand this simple truth.
I agree and that is why Metallica's music declined so much after Cliff died.
Im sure Lars had to stay at the hospital a little longer after having his ass handed to him by Dave Lombardo.
haha nice
wow sounds awesome!!!!!
HELL YEAH
with dave it instantly sounds better. lars is over rated. let the hate posts begin.

How's about Dave with with the other Daves in Megadeth doing The Mechanix? That would KILL!
Three Dave's would be too much hahahaha
Thrasher209 You can never have too many Dave's in MegaDave! ;)
DaveC ...and Megadeth has played on David Letterman ...with Dave Mustaine and David Ellefson \m/ ... and thanks for saying Megadave DaveC , lol
DaveC who could be the forth Dave, seriously? Give me some names!
Dave Grohl, lol .. David Vincent of Morbid Angel \m/
that song drips with epic, from the lyrics to the instruments
metallica is back!!! SLAYER!!!!
Must be weird for James and Kirk to have to play in time
James Rockford just like the old days.
0:28 IT'S OKAY HE'S THE WORST ONE ANYWAY! LARS IS A WANKER! LARS IS A WANKER! XD
Alright not okay*
Combination of the two best bands EVER!!!
I agree, it sounds awesomes and precise:D
Metallica wanted to play with someone who can keep a beat
hahaha, I like Lars .. but I LOL.

PD: lars is good anywaay
digging the therapy sessions before each song.
Wow!
Dave Lombardo is a beast on the kit!!!
Lot of Lars hate here as usual, Lombardo does kick ass though!!
cause lars fucking sucks.. as usual ... DUH
When the hell did he have time to practice. I guessing he is not just playing metallica songs all the time. Amazing how talented and capable these guys are....long live heavy metal!
Mihai Dobrota they would have had a quick run through backstage.
i was there download festival 2004 it was superb
Dave Lombardo actually played this song off the bat. he's that AWESOME!
LMFAO @0:28.
Dave Lombardo is way better than Ulrich.
played that song like a boss!
SLAYER!!
Apparently Kirk said to Dave and James that "that's how it's supposed to sound"
Poor Lars lol
leigh stirland I'd be curious to know what exactly transpired backstage after the show.
Metallica with a drummer with actual talent!! NICE! :P
You're epic man !
So fucking good with Dave Lombardo!!!
Notice how it sounds 1000x better with a real drummer? lol
Lars had a moment sometime in 1984 where IF he actually cared and practiced his instrument hed be as good as Dave Lombardo.
Gore Elohim he was at the same level as lombardo back in the eighties. Just check out the live video's.
I bet this moment in time keeps Lars awake at night.
Love how Dave and Joey just said “Hey we can help with this…”!
For once I want James to stop singing so I can here the drums better. Never thought I'd say that.
i miss Cliff Burton.
Perfect drumming!
SLAYER!!!!!

SLAYER
god i love that drum intro
"It's alright, he's the worst one anyway!" Haha, classic. They sounded better too!!!
he follows it up with chanting "Lars is a wanker, Lars is a wanker!!""
Replace Lars with Lombardo and Kirk with Marty Friedman.
Replace Metallica with SLAYER.
Breno Baptista
Lombardo, Marty & Jason \m/
Breno Baptista Replace Robert with Jason? Wtf? Robert is WAY better player than Jason.
damn straight!
what a kickass song! Dave doin fine

To add to that, Lars has an almost lazy sound ( live anyway), He's always off by a 16th or so. Dave on the other hand is a fucking metronome.
if you think it sounds the same sorry bros dont ever play music because you dont have the ear for it
Yup, it's Lars' drum arrangement. Dave doesn't add the random fills like Lars does, which is a good thing, but Dave sticks to the arrangement because it suits the song. Still sounds way too slow... gonna go listen to Mechanix.
