Fantastic song from when the youth of the day realised that sticking together was actually a better idea than allowing themselves to be divided. The music of 1977-1982 will never be topped. Punk, ska, mod, 2 Tone. I didn't realise how lucky we were.
The Clash isn't only the great band. Moreover, it is honest way of thinking about ubiquitois unjustice in world then and today and straight receipe for way of living.
Yeah I'm Scottish but this song resonates with me. Brilliant as a 14 year old in my cold bedroom. Friends didn't understand but it was a talking point to have a punk as a friend. All lovely friends and we shared too many giggles. Yes we did
remember as 16-17yo with radio held close to my ear between 10-12 pm listening to John Peel and Festive Fifty - that music has stayed with me for 40+ years, my own favourites in order were SLF, Joy Division, Sex Pistols and Clash but complete control in my top 3 songs along with alternative ulster and god save the queen...you can envy the youth of today in lots of ways but not in their music!! the lyrics of white man resonate still now, and every 10 years or so, they shine a light on our society and it's issues
So true we also had the specials, music changes so quick now ,no style or history, sad really.slf ,the jam and throw in the beat the list is endless mate.I’d never change places👊
This band changed my fking life. Thought provoking lyrics, stylish melodies, tough as nails working street guys just making music sending their message. True humanity rock. The breakdown at the end still gives me chills
@@jcmagnus One time in the EB, they were supported by Mikey Dread. Probably many times, but I saw him with them only once. The ventilation failed that night and everyone was just soaked with sweat. Walking home (probably aged 16) I was stopped by the Police and questioned. I was utterly soaked and steaming in the cool night air. They thought I'd been in the canal. Aah... Youth slips away.

I miss rock. Punk was perfect timing, when rock was going soft and disco came along. Punk got us through it. Yes, I know some people don’t think The Clash was punk…new wave, they say…but they were political and became famous enough to communicate their views to the masses. Grunge/alt rock had their roots in punk and saved rock once again. Who will save us now?
Forever grateful for this song. One of the first songs I heard that really urged me to question the white-centric narratives I had been raised with. It took me a while to catch on...and I'm still working on it.
Im 6o now and i still feel kings road good along with all them clash city rockers when ever i hear this song. Best of luck to all of them folks that are with me on that, i love you all so stay happy with me on that rockers.Pass it down to all your kids.
Today President Biden proposed a $2,000,000,000 rebuild of America. That would be some serious Robin Hood. Especially in addition to the $2T Biden already recently secured for rank and file citizens in this country.

Why does this video cut off nearly two minutes before the song is over? It's a four minute track. I can't imagine The Clash, of all bands, to sanction such a dramatic edit of one of their greatest tunes. Strange.
For everyone asking, rest of the song is against artists who are singing only for money and because of which companies like Vevo earn their profit. That's why they censored it.
I'll buy a copy of the album in support of this song. Its actually tied for my favorite on the album with Janey Jones. And I need another copy anyway. Thanks! Lucky I listened to this today! (BTW I thought they censored it because he mentioned Adolf Hitler...)
I enjoyed and loved The Clash when I was 14 yrs old 1979. Also I'm from Inverness and I now know that Joe Strummer's Mother was from Bonar Bridge. Bonar Bridge is 3 miles from Clashcoig, Ardgay IV24 3AS. Maybe Joe show the name for The Clash close to The Clashcoig

@Dan Dugan Yeah all the best from Yorkshire to a fella that talks sense 👍
I'm a little late (in nyc) but remembering the legend Joe Strummer on the day we lost him (Dec 22, 2002), listening to one of his favourite songs ❤❤❤

Joe Strummer’s mother was Scottish.
I know you lot like to act special but England and Scotland and for that matter Wales are very very similar in a lot of ways...
No one realizes this is the truncated version of this song?
I could never find the right (opposite sex) person, to nudge nudge 😉 😉 have a giggle with.
Glasgow Apollo 1980 one of the best I have seen live, strummer legend!!!!

Punk rocker in the UK
They won't notice anyway
They're all too busy fightin'
For a good place under the lightin'
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, huh, ya' think it's funny
Turnin' rebellion into money
All over people changin' their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
I'm the all-night drug-prowling' wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I'm the white man in the Palais
Just a'lookin' for fun
Only lookin' for fun
Oh, please mister
Just leave me alone
I'm only
Lookin' for fun
