Heartbroken to learn of Terry Hall’s passing. Thank you TH for being part of a cultural revolution that helped change my life. Your legacy will live forever. RIP
As a trombonist, I at first thought this song to be easy, but this trombonist's tone and ability to stay perfectly in tune is immaculate. I wish he got more credit.
His name is Rico Rodriguez, he has much appreciation unless of course you are a complete twat that didnt bother to look. Man from Waricka would be a good start for you to listen to
It's Rico Rodriguez. He's pretty legendary and I feel that his work with The Specials got quite well credited. At the time the band was having a string of hits, I'm pretty certain that anyone following their music in the UK, at least, would have known his name.
He went to Buckingham Palace and got a gong for his contribution to British music, which is pretty good going for someone who’s actually from Jamaica and who played trombone on the original recording of this song in the 1960s.. Not many Brits getting awards from the Jamaicans.. He got plenty of credit..
From Russia with love.
In the post-Soviet space, especially in the 2000s, popular performers playing quasi-ska and reggae, most similar to 2-Tone, were pleased.
Of the officially published British bands in the USSR, I remember only UB-40. The Specials, due to controversial lyrics, did not pass the Soviet censorship, but their records, obtained illegally, were definitely in use among young people interested in Western culture.
At least Yegor Letov, the legendary leader of the Grazhdanskaya Oborona band and the Siberian punk movement, included the Specials in his list of favorite bands.
When the music industry won't give you a break, create your own label, sign yourself and get the recognition you deserve... Now, that is Special(s)
I feel like sharing my knowledge with you today: for those who do not know the story already, the "rudy" of this song is not a person. In fact, it refers to the slang term "rude boy" (rude boy-rudie-rudy) that originated in Jamaica in the early '60 to define an individual who belongs to a specific sub-culture where ska and rocksteady are the main musical genres. As you can imagine, the term "rude" refers to the not exactly in-line-with-the-law lifestyle they had: "better think of your future" "else you'll wind up in jail" in the lyrics clearly refers to that. This particular subculture heavily influenced the mods and the skinheads, particularly in the look. And in in regards of music too , obviously, since the genre oi! is heavily influenced by ska. Hope you'll find this interesting.
wut?! as a guy named rudolph, might i just say, "that's sum bs right ther". i thought it was a msg to me, a msg that turned my life around. know i now, there is no god. life has no meaning. ggpo
In 1979 I was 11 years old when I heard this song for the first time.
Fell in love with the song and with Ska music. Now at 54, still in love with Ska music !
RIP Terry Hall, true legend and hero of a whole generation !
What would you say are the Musts and classics bands to start to listen ska? (Sorry for mu English)
@@carloakley5367He was eleven in 1979 thus he was born 1968. At some point in 2024 he will be 56.

Sierra is right. I was born in early 1979, and I’m 45 as of May 2024.
Incidentally, I first heard this song/band in my late teens in the 90’s, and loved it/them. I just introduced it to my grandkid.
So sad. Music. Integrity. This man did a lot for race relations. Youth culture. Education. So much more than a singer. Love love love.
Such a lovely guy. So sad to think he's no longer with us. He really seemed like the type of guy you'd like to meet in person.
No argument there. I was in my early teens in the first stages of senior school and beinging to explore my musical tastes. This was very big R.I.P. Terry Hall .
RIP Terry. Your music will live forever.
@@anthonywebster5477 Obviously Terry Hall is not gonna see the comment, the point that alangibbs4183 was tryna make was that his legacy will live on.
The greatest ska record ever lost my dad in 2008 but he lives on when I hear this tune message to u Rudy 😢😢😢😢
Literally same. 2008 was a rough year. All of my best music tastes, stem from him. Ska, Punk, and everything in between was thanks to him.
R.I.P. Terry, thanx for your incredible sound and songs.....Rude Boy never die!!!
I'm Italian and I'm living the quarantine against Codv-19. This song make me happy and it gives me hope.

@@allengoyne I just say: don't forget the hope and take care of you! From Italia: stay strong!
This song is magic for stopping babies crying! When my youngest was bawling for whatever reason, turned this on and he'd stop mid scream no matter what. Total magic😂
I believe baby was thinking of his future. I predict a future astrophysicist with excellent musical taste.
I'm a 61 year old male, don't know why I'm still crying, I guess some people in our lives actually meant something, and it hits hard when they pass.
RIP Terry. Crazy to think how much further ahead they were in the '70s and '80s than we are now.
I used to go up to Camden and go to all kinds of gigs. Everyone had a great time but slowly a way was found to split us all back into our little tribes. Life died in the 80s
Much Respect, Much love to Terry and all his family. It's a devastating loss. But Happiness is there because he existed to give us all that he did. What an impact you had on my life for over 30 years and always will. A legend indeed. "Love Love Love" Rest in Ska Rudie!
In 1980 I was 9 years old and heard this song for the first time. I immediately fell in love with ska. My mom had to buy me a "peppita" skirt, "Monkey boots" and braces and she also had to made me a "feather cut". I'm still celebrating the second wave of ska!
The best band from the 2Tone era. The legendary trombonist Rico Rodriguéz in fine fashion.🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
As a blue collar working class school boy in Manchester in 1979, Too Much Too Young was the first single I ever baught.
Many thanks Mr. Hall & all of your comrades 💗
Am 72..!! Better get out on the floor..and LOOSEN MY ARTHRITIC..JOINTS..!! MAGIC..!!
Keep jamming bud, like they say you're as old as your hart feels. Respect and love from the Netherlands.

right on Claude!!! pushing 50 myself and this still makes me young!! cheers!! my friend
Rest in peace Terry and Brad. 2 legends, both gone too soon. :(
Thanks Terry and The Specials for these memorable timeless classics. They go into the vaults of memories.
As a young Mexican-American girl in early 1990s California I identified SO MUCH with The Specials and with this music.
We had a huge ska/rude boy scene back then.
This one really hurts 💔. RIP Terry Hall. Thank you for the amazing music/memories!
No Doubt had huge Ska influences didn’t they. I live near where Terry Hall was from and also near where Madness were from. Amazing they travelled all that way and had an impact.
@@Hillvalley86 No Doubt was a product of the huge popularity of ska music in Southern California. I don’t know why the music became so popular here but it did- I went to Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners and Skatalites concerts any chance I had. Then we had a huge local ska movement with bands like No Doubt, Hepcat and much more. Such fun times! 🖤 🤍
Black n white in harmony beautiful!!!
It's a trip to think that people aren't amplifying racism back then like everybody is really trying to get along. Nowadays everybody is pushing agendas.
What an immense contribution to the soundtrack of our lives. RIP Terry!
Music videos don't get much better than this. Thanks Coventry and all!
The Specials taught my friends how-to be tolerant of people who looked different. Thank you
Mr Clean i love your comment , i agree with what you have said . These lovely guys were so unique in every sense xx i will always adore them lol Jane x🎺🎷🎶🎸🎹📀💽🎥🎞🎧🎤🪕🎵💎🎬🎶🎷🎺
Yeah, tolerance is usually about people who look different but think the same.
You didn’t need any teaching because your smugly superiority to your friends..!
My son's middle name is Rudy. He is 6 months old today! A message to you Rudy: I will always love you!

I was 15 when this specials cover came out in 1979. So lucky to be growing up in the 70s and early 80s. I was sad to hear of Terry's passing, he wasn't much older than me but his music had such a strong influence over all of us.
RIP Terry, a legend of a man.
This is one of those rare songs that you can throw on at any party for any people and no one will mind and at least one person will ask "dude, what is this?"
Just came here to add it to my Halloween Playlist for a party I'm having, no one will know who or what it is so they better be ready for a full history of Ska lol
@@cathlandavis1230 Nice! Yer doin' it right. When the party is really rolling, may I suggest "Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag" by Pigbag? Cheers!
RIP Terry Hall. A sad loss to the music industry. I’ve just discovered the band, introduced me to the music genius that was Terry Hall. Gone, but never forgotten. He will live on in his music.
RIP Terry Hall. This is so good
fuck me, this takes me back....was life much simpler then? great memories
Yeah much simpler, Thatcher and Reagan in power, social deprivation, strikes, unemployment record high, threat of nuclear war, living in a shithole like Coventry... ;)
Terry was like a friend who counseled us at our worst times and cheered us on at our best. He had an incredible ability to brighten or alleviate sadness through beautiful songs, which not everyone has.
Well said. So sad, he lived fiercely to overcome such a sad childhood. But look at the joy his work will continue to give
Even though I never knew you in person, Terry, I'm deeply saddened by your passing.
The Specials message of unity and love was a huge part of my youth, and I owe a debt to The Specials and Two Tone for sparking my political awakening by calling out Thatcher and the Tories for what they were.
Your music will live forever in the hearts and minds of those of us fortunate enough to have been around when it happened.
Rest in peace brother, you've earned it!
Timeless.
RIP Terry Hall. Saw them live in 2011 and they were brilliant. This is my favourite song of theirs.
Saw them live. They worked the crowd. Better than a recording.
I’m not an 80s kid like everyone else here but one thing we all have in common is the love for the specials rest in peace terry hall
RIP Terry Hall. We'll never forget about you and you will be missed.
I love how the Jamaicans brought their music to England and the mixture gave birth to bands like The Specials and Madness.
You made Our youth thank you
RIP Terry Hall I miss your talent and star quality there will never be anyone like you ❤️
Hoy se nos fue un grande, no sólo un tremendo cantante y músico sino que también una gran persona, profundamente agradecido por tu música y tus enseñanzas Terry, no se te olvidará maestro.
Love music, Hate racism.
Amazing band...miss the times, the 80's and 90's.
The band will be remembered as London multicultural troubadours.
Far better than current shackled journalists to a newspaper title.
The Specials breath life, insight, nostalgia and overwhelming love.
Thank you for your existence!
another fallen legend. BIG UP REST IN PARADISE sir Terry Hall.. MASSIVE RESPECT!
This has broken me. What a terrible loss to the world. Terry Hall...all the love 🖤
RIP Terry. A lifetime of love for these 'special' tunes. 💖
RIP Terry Hall. Just heard the news 😞 this was the soundtrack to my early teens.
Is 40 years too late to think of my future? Thank you & RIP Terryy
The Specials and Terry Hall defined an era. All passes, we grow old.
I grew up in small-town Quebec. I discovered the Specials when I walked into a Canadian Tire store one day and they had a bin of eight-track cassettes on sale. I was a punk wanna-be in a small francophone town in the early eighties. I had heard of the Specials but had never heard ska music before that day. I took a chance and bought the cassette and have never looked back. Forty years later and I am still listening to ska and even my French-Canadian husband loves it. It was him who saw the news that Tery had passed away. We are mourning the passing of a truly talented individual today. Allez en paix/Rest in peace.
Love The Specials! My friends and I all wanted to wear their cool shades.
best song/tune ever. next time you have a bbq stick it on and watch everyone relax.
In dezember I´m going to another great SKA band "The Busters" in Bremen. Ska lives !
I think this song is what personally solidified the specials as my favourite British band, it's just too good
“The Specials”were THE greatest “Ska” Band!!
13 years old in 1980 and my friend played the Specials.........loved it and always will........Dave my friend recently passed away so it means even more now. God bless him
So sorry to hear that chum. I'm sure your friend Dave is in heaven with all the Ska Team.
Mr. Hall. You and The Specials are part of my musical life. I have danced to your music for over 4 decades, and the sounds are timeless/ so relevant. RIEP. Sleep well.
RIP Terry. The Specials were one of our favourite bands with Terry's distinctive vocals. Terry will be sadly missed.
The great sound of Rico Rodriguez on the trombone.
RIP.
rmkw4291 thank you i was wondering who he was and why he kills it so hard
Very sad news!! 😢 Terry Hall was part of my youth. Watching this studio / video on BBC TV was really brilliant!! I loved the music, style, excitement, authenticity, working class street vibe and the energy. A great band front man who used his musical talent to give the youth of the 1980’s generation hope, inspiration and unity. A very successful musician who was always humble and compassionate. A beautiful human being taken from us far too early. We love you, Terry. Thank you for the wonderful memories. RIP 💔😢💐
Metal head....loved the diversity of the 80's....Best decade for music ever !!!! Mod/Ska was nice .....
I was into Metal
but always envied the MODS and Rude Boys in my school for the way they dressed
eventually switched but still liked Metal
Still sounds majestic
Rest in Peace rude boy Terry Hall. The maker of memories for many a fifty-something across the UK and beyond. Legend.
My daughters husband is from Coventry and at their wedding the DJ played a cracking selection of Specials tracks which went down so well with us oldies. Gone too soon RIP Terry
Terry, you're a legend. Such an inspiration for many subcultures, skinheads, rudeboys, punks and all people who enjoy ur music are grateful with you. You will never be forgotten, RIP.
I was 16 years old. I grow up with your music! RIP Terry! From The Netherlands
Crying my heart out listening back to all the legendary sounds and memories Terry created. Too many to leave this message on, but I love them all equally. Too good.
R.I.P. Terry Hall. What a legacy.

So privileged to have seen Terry and his band in September '21, Manchester.❤
Ska has never gone it just needs us rude boys to bring it back again 👑🍻
Did you stop your fooling around?
Did you straighten right out, rudy? ;)
It's always here. No need to being it back. Just saw the Selecter twice in 2 years and other bands.
Terry Hall. A true artist. RIP.
How can this be the best SKA playlist of all time and not have a single Pietasters song on it...
Rest In peace you legend. A sad Christmas for me. Love to your family.
Remember Legends never die as long as we keep telling their stories
The Colourfield, Vegas with the ‘fashionable’ Dave Stuart and the ridiculous things he said about Nick Cave (that was unimaginatively just paraphrasing a bad NME journalist) should NEVER be forgotten..
Growing up in the late 70's and early 80's the two tone/ska sound was the soundtrack to my childhood. Sad to hear of Terry Hall's passing.
RIP Terry Hall, much love, you'll be missed.
Rip Terry Hall 😢 another legend gone too soon my thoughts are with your family and friends at a sad time 💜💜💜😢😢
