Ive owned mine for about 5 months and love it so much. Such a fun car and i can't wait for the summer. You will have to get winter tires if you live somewhere where you get snow.

Awesome Type R, not gonna lie one of the best looking one that ive seen. Love the color, i love those wheels! Didn't know going for smaller ones looks so good. I really want one now! Probably going for the Facelift next year, let's see. 😃
Here's something to look out for, after oil changes, the Technician has neglected to reinstall ALL of the fastners properly for the lower engine cover (aluminum plate that covers the oil drain plug and filter. Mine has come off on the freeway, so has my buddy's type R.

As for my 2018 HVAC controls going through the laggy infotainment system I replaced it with a 2016 Civic Si HVAC controls that gives me a knob for fan control and for the temp, separate buttons for front and rear defrost and mode button. Cost me like $30 off Ebay. You loose the dual climate control but I’d rather have instant adjustment. I replaced the stock steering wheel with a D shaped Handkraftd fk8 leather steering wheel with red stripe @ 12 o’clock and replaced the click volume steering wheel control with oem Honda touch volume adjustment.
I will look into potentially swapping the HVAC controls like you did - good suggestion, I know a local member here that has done the same with his as well. Also very nice steering wheel upgrade 👍
Great up date video. As a general everyday car how do find the ride, being from the UK we don’t have the smoothest of roads and that is a big reservation for me getting a car like this.
The ride for me is great considering this is a sports car - the car handles bumps on roads well esp in comfort mode. I would recommend getting the wheel and tire warranty if you plan to keep the 20inch wheels and thin tires. Or I would move to an 18 inch wheel and thicker tires

hey k20! nice detailed video, have you heard from any of your friends (with CTRs) about the gear crunch issue? also, any issues on carbon build up with these Type Rs? Thank you!
Thanks for watching! In regards to gear grinding I've experienced it 2-3 times in the 18 months I've owned the car... I don't speed shift too often, and if I do I make sure to press in the clutch all the way to help prevent grinding. Feedback has been the same with local owners around me.
Congrats on your ☝🏾 year anniversary! 🥳Honda hasn’t missed on any of their vehicles and the Type R is straight fire. I wish I would have made the switch sooner. Lol. Another dope video! #powerofdreams 🚗💨
I will most likely buy CTR or golf R next yr, such a pity CTR only seats 2 legally in back. Know where they fit 3rd pair seat belts? Matt black would be beautiful, should be choice
It depends which market you’re in - the usdm FK8 has cup holders and a small storage section in the middle area which would be a seat. I think I saw the video on the 10thgencivic forums but not sure exactly.
Thanks a lot for a great review and sharing your beautiful car! What are your thoughts on the 2020 and it’s Alcantara wrapped steering wheel? Is that going to sponge up sweat from a drivers hand opposed to a leather wrapped steering wheel?
Thank you for watching! I think the new alcantara wheel for the 2020s is a nice move by honda, especially given how many owners are adding it to their Rs.... as far how it will hold up, it’ll def be more prone to wear compared to the leather wheel but with a good cleaner and awareness to not run food etc into the wheel, should be fine.
Just found your channel and watched all your videos. Great content, love the JDM inspired look! I see so many riced out fk8’s it’s nice to see a clean one for a change. Do you have instagram so I can follow?
Nice car man those wheels look sick! Much better with the offset compared to the stock wheels which stick in. Did you notice any changes to the handling compared to the stock rims? I’m thinking of going down to 19s but I read it can cause understeer etc. Maybe it’s only noticeable if you’re pushing it on track?
Thanks for the video. Looking at getting a 2020...How does the bolster look after getting in and out of it for a year? Is it showing any wear? And how do you feel getting in and out of it day in day out? From a comfort, ease of egress point of view...
Bolsters are holding up, now that it’s been over a year and a half of ownership - bolsters in the driver’s seat show some slight wear and I am used to getting in and out, but passengers may struggle if they aren’t used to a lower sitting seat with bolsters. Thanks for watching! -
@K20Elite23 Why did you get rid of the STi? and/or What was your decision making behind going with a Type R? I am close to getting a new car, Torn between 3 different cars (STi, Type R, M3). I had a 10gen Si that was totaled out and ended up replacing it with an Automatic and have been underwhelmed for months.
I traded the STI in due to being overall underwhelmed by the car after owning it for two years - the performance just wasn’t what I’d thought it be and I didn’t want to spend a good amount of money to get the engine to where I would be happy - 2nd reason for trading was the lack of interior technology (Apple car play, overall infotainment, and sound quality) wasn’t there either with my 16 model - those have since been improved; last reason - although the AWD was nice, it was not needed in the environment I drive in. STI isn’t a bad car but in my opinion it needs a new engine to add some new excitement to the platform which should be coming with the new 2021 model sometime soon. Also I have some bias as I’ve only owned Honda’s before purchasing the STI so the Type R was calling my name once it hit the states. Hope this helps!
@@K20Elite23 Thanks so much, these are hard decisions, great input. I could be wrong but Subies seem like never ending money/mod pits. Hey man thanks again!
You’re welcome! And good point with the money pit... nothing against subaru but with the ej25 it does seem to be that way. Good luck with your decision! 👍
Do your own oil change bro... I'd highly recommend that. even people with minimal mechanic experience learn and do it... I'm sure you know this.. you know the saying "if you want it done right do it yourself" harder and harder to trust people these days. SWEET RIDE! I'm about to trade my Civic EXT in for a Type R...
Nice vid! I'm happy for you/living vicariously through you, too, lol! Thanks for sharing, and I plan on getting a 2018 soon. Word of advice...and no, I'm not hating; you need to throw some dressing on your tires, my friend (tire shine type s**t)...shine the rimes up to while you're at it (optional). I get it as far as the tires, though; they're racing tires so you don't want anything slippery that will compromise traction...but still; if you're "showing" them, dress 'em up with an honorable mention, i.e. "these are racing tires..and...I'm dressing them up for show purposes." I think the rain guards look tack, detract etc...but others may feel otherwise, of course. Otherwise, your ride looks nice. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate the feedback - yes I run tire dressing just not at the time of that video and needed a solution for the excess dressing throwing up marks on the sides of the vehicle - the rock guards have helped with stopping that from happening.
Any dash rattling?? It’s something that I hate and as I’m seriously considering getting this car it’s a deal breaker if the interior plastics are not good quality. Apart from that great review 👍🏼
Great question, when the car was stock I remember if any rattling it was very minor, but... once I installed the J’s racing system there is def some rattle/vibration due to the very deep tone of this exhaust. If you plan to keep the exhaust fairly stock you should be fine with rattles 👍 Thank you for watching!
You look like a bigger guy, how did you fit with the bolstering? You look entirely too wide. I only ask because I'm 6'4" 290lbs and I fit fine in the SI that I currently have but the Type r seems tighter as far as the seat
I’ve heard from others that have snow experience that the car handles it well, once you put a set of winter wheels/tires on. Stock tires wouldn’t handle snow well at all.
So I’m a die hard Honda guy but I have friends who have STI’s........personally owning both what is your favorite between the two vehicles? Also I’m 6’1....is the Type R comfortable as a daily?
Thank you! It’s an awesome car - be patient in your search and good luck there should be some that can be had for MSRP on the East - would either need to travel or have the car shipped.
K20Elite23 really hoping that 2020 type r leak with the smaller wing and 18inch wheels is real since my city has a lot of pot holes so it would save some costs on the wheels there.
I test drive one in Ny yesterday a used one 2018 for 30,600$ with 20,000miles no mark up or Stupid fees let me know if u want to see the invoice they gave me,the only reason i didn’t buy it is because My 2013 Si gave me absolutely no reason to let her go.
I think buying used is a good option. I would just do research on the previous ownership and make sure the car is stock for my preference in buying used and has good maintenance records
Hey bro, who did you get the illumination kit through? A lot of the sites I've checked don't have them available anymore and that's an add-on I'd love to install
Hey, I can’t remember exactly where I purchased them from, but it may have been college hills Honda. These parts may be discontinued now unfortunately. Thanks for watching!
If you ever get a ctr the floor mats are very week 15k miles they almost have holes im them :( should have got all seasons i dont use the factory mats just replacements
coulton bishop happened to me in my Si lol so I asked for all weather civic mats at the dealership when I bought the car. The type R mats sit happily in their plastic in my trunk 😂
Based on my experiences so far I think it will and hope it will lol. I have no experience with driving in snow with the Type R but I know some owners who do and they swap to smaller narrower wheels with winter tires and say the car performs well. I could see where an AWD option (STI) would be considered in winter environments tho
Hey bro how do you feel about the sidemarkers I’ve bought aftermarket ones and they all get water in them I have purchased 4 sets for my type r any leads on some good ones? Lol
Hey bro, the only options that I know work well with the FK8 are the oem orange ones which I don’t mind - or the clear JDM set which should be a direct replacement. Hope that helps
Nice detailed review👍🏻 ,im looking to fit some wheels like yours to my FK8 , how would you compare your 18" with the Michelins compared to the original 20" with continental for launching + handling ? Cheers 😎
Thanks for watching! I prefer the Michelin PS4S tires to the stock tires - in my opinion much better performer overall... I’m sure the wider 265 width contributes to that as well.
Awesome video man! Currently have a 19 Si and quickly regretted not getting the type R 🤦🏻♂️. I’m thinking about purchasing one in the next couple months or so. So I have one question, no offense, but seeing that you’re a bigger guy, how are the seats? I’m a big guy too so I need to know lol. I had an Evo X with the factory Recaros and those felt wonderful, except on my thighs. Would love your feedback man.
That is one thing I forgot to touch on, and being a bigger person the seats are very comfortable and still offer great support and bolstering without making it unbearable to drive in for long periods of time - thigh bolsters are high but comfortable at the same time. Hope that helps, and thank you for watching!
The new 2020 models have additional driving assists - to enhance driver safety. In bumper to bumper traffic its still a manual so not as forgiving as an automatic, but the clutch is very easy to use and not something I would complain about. 👍
I’ve narrowed down my exhaust choice to J’s Racing SS exhaust and the Fujitsubo full ti exhaust with the cf tips. J’s has the best sound. Get that Sirimoto Flex Fuel kit for your Hondata Flashpro. Was in Vegas a week ago but took a rental car otherwise I would’ve hit you up to try my Flex Fuel Type R. Last trip my R started getting hot past half to 3/4 temp rise but it happenedat full throttle 105 degree heat with a full payload and a/c full blast at 120 mph at an incline. Looking to do some heat soak mods like an open front grill snd Koyo aluminum radiator, Mishimoto lower temp radiator valve, ptp lava wrap intake pipe.
Just sold my s2000 and hoping to get a civic type r soon, yours looks fantastic on those wheels and glad to see it’s held up well!

Great review man! I had mine for about 7 months and it’s been solid.
How does the Spoon Springs feel vs the OEM?
Yes! The FK8 is a great platform!! The spoon springs feel about 15-20% stiffer than the OEM springs
Great mods everything is super tight but I feel like those wheels should have some sort of center caps
Beautiful! My dream car
nice clean civic type-r fk8
Thank you!!
Really nice car. Thanks for the vid.
Thank you for watching!
Any suggestions on maintaining the Alcantara sections? I have yet to find a solid recommendation.
I know there may be some brands out there with products to help, but I have yet to use any.
I would love to have one someday
You look like a bigger guy, how did you fit with the bolstering? You look entirely too wide. I only ask because I'm 6'4" 290lbs and I fit fine in the SI that I currently have but the Type r seems tighter as far as the seat
I fit fine in the type R, the seats/bolsters are tighter than most normal seats, but I fit fine and have gone on road trips with no problems.
Thinking of buying one soon. How do think it will do in snow with winter tires. Going to one car and may have to snow drive a few times.
I’ve heard from others that have snow experience that the car handles it well, once you put a set of winter wheels/tires on. Stock tires wouldn’t handle snow well at all.
nice review buddy.... background Music???
Thanks for watching! It’s all from Lakey Inspired
So I’m a die hard Honda guy but I have friends who have STI’s........personally owning both what is your favorite between the two vehicles? Also I’m 6’1....is the Type R comfortable as a daily?
Nice review!
Thank you!
After seeing your car and my barbers car, I really want to get a type r when I finish paying off my si. Just hard finding one near MSRP in SoCal
Luis Ramirez i had to buy one in NY lol. Every cali dealer charges ridiculous mark up
I test drive one in Ny yesterday a used one 2018 for 30,600$ with 20,000miles no mark up or Stupid fees let me know if u want to see the invoice they gave me,the only reason i didn’t buy it is because My 2013 Si gave me absolutely no reason to let her go.
Great Review!
Thank you!!
What do you think about buying a used modified type r? I'm on the fence about it
I think buying used is a good option. I would just do research on the previous ownership and make sure the car is stock for my preference in buying used and has good maintenance records
Once I get one of these I’d like to meet up with u and talk about the cars in person. I’m new to the car scene. I live about 3hrs from Vegas
For sure bro! Thanks for watching!
K20Elite23 I fell in love with this car. By any chance have you heard of a date for the 2020s to be released?
They should be hitting dealers any day now
I was told to change the oil every 3,000 miles to be safe since it's a turbo motor to be safe unless you got a catch can
Every 3-5k should be ok
Beautiful man
Thank you!
Where did you get that small mugen sticker?
Highly considering trading my Tacoma in for the Type R or STI. Kinda sold on the R fwiw
Both are good cars, I traded in a 16 STI for my R... very happy with that decision
K20Elite23 thanks dude, think the R will be a long term, reliable car for you? Any reviews in snow?
Based on my experiences so far I think it will and hope it will lol. I have no experience with driving in snow with the Type R but I know some owners who do and they swap to smaller narrower wheels with winter tires and say the car performs well. I could see where an AWD option (STI) would be considered in winter environments tho
Tremendous
why risk having a dealer change your oil?
All weather floor mats are a must for sure unless you wanna be looking like Fred flinstone 😂
Exactly!! 😂😂
Awesome! Thanks for the reply man I really appreciate it. Itching to get my hands on a type R now lol
You won’t regret it!! 😎
Do you prefer the Type R over the STI in terms of reliability and performance?
I do prefer it over the STI.
Can you share the link to the oil spill thread?
I remember reading it but can’t find it no more
Same here I read it on the 10thgen forums a couple months ago... there’s stories there and on the Facebook group
Where did you buy all the mugen stuff
King Motorsports
Good looking my g
How is she in bumper-to-bumper traffic? Are there any driver aids to make it easier on the driver?
The new 2020 models have additional driving assists - to enhance driver safety. In bumper to bumper traffic its still a manual so not as forgiving as an automatic, but the clutch is very easy to use and not something I would complain about. 👍
Say I start saving up now to get one , how long do you think it will take to actually get one ?
Really just depends on your situation, and how you’re looking to purchase wether financing, paying cash, or down payment
K20Elite23 which would you prefer man?
how do you put the apps on the type r have a 2018 but i can't
I’ve used apple car play to get some of my phone apps on the screen
What's your front grille? and where did you buy it?
rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F302721941360
Purchased here
I’m stuck between building my 370z, or selling to get a type r.
Tough choice! I would choose the Type R 😆
Type R. I'm not a fan of the wing but I'd rather have a type r over the Z unless it's the Nismo Z.
Nice car ! 🏎♥️
Thank you!
Can’t go wrong with either of those exhaust options! Very nice cooling mods on the way for you! 👍😎
Can u give the website address, where to buys the Volk wheels, thanks
I purchased that specific wheel from Vivid Racing - www.vividracing.com
