This reminds me of the secretary at my work who also just bought a Cadillac her dream car, but is always talking about not having enough money and trying to mooch off our lunches she once had the audacity to ask me why I haven't bought my dream car. Told her My dream car is one that is fully paid for, low maintenance, and reliable.

I started off sympathetic to the defendants. They sounded like nice people that have been through some difficult times. But when they struggled to come up with a good reason to buy a car they couldn't afford, they lost me. Her dream car? You get your dream car when you can afford it. Until then, buy something cheap but functional.

Anxiety disorders are a real disability. It's one thing to watch your grandkids in your own home for a few hours, or go for a drive now and again. it's another thing entirely to go out into the world and work fulltime. Judge Judy has never understood this. You also can't just get disability by asking for it. It's a long drawn out process and one that requires a lot of documentation. Something as a social worker, I have helped clients do.

@@Mellie I get having PTSD for the trauma she experienced but I don't understand how after all of those years spent NOT working, she feels she should have a dream car that she could only possibly afford if she did work. Then, throwing in as an afterthought that they use it to cart around grandchildren. That's the problem I have. The husband said she saved $1500. They could have got a somewhat decent car for that amount OR they could have waited until the husband started working again to add to that savings until they reached $3500.

Taking medicine doesn’t mean someone mentally disabled. I guess it depends on the person and how much meds they are on. Okay, there are people with degrees, and businesses, and jobs who take prescription medicines and can still work and drive. Everything depends on tolerance and how responsible. The wife may have had a street drug issue in the past, not to be judgmental but she kind of looks like she may have. But many normal functioning people take prescribed medicine and live normal lives.

While yes, medication doesn't mean disability, but there is a balance... let's take her driving as an example.
If you have someone driving a vehicle with schizophrenia, then the risks of an accident (and the mortality rate) greatly increases if they are at the whims of voices.
If you have anxiety and driving, then you are likely to panic, and cause an accident. Meanwhile, I remember a Canadian driver given angina medication to take with her panic attacks who didn't realize how dangerous that combo was.
As for PTSD, well certain antidepressants reduce your reaction time greatly enough that the 50% chance you'd hit that kid now became 80%....
The key for anyone with a disability to continue a normal life is to understand your strengths and limits, and act accordingly.
